Yum yum yum. Best chili verde ever, its like no one else's. They have a smothered burrito, that is smothered in the chili verde. Also the chicken chimichanga is served with a side of chili verde for dipping. Seriously, try anything with their chili verde! Papusa tostada is amazing, but not officially on the menu - you gotta ask if they have it. Oh! Amazing salsa too, its very mild and my children love it. I will admit, the fajitas that I've had there were not the best, and sadly they do not have a traditional stuffed to chili relleno. There's is more of a flat very egg-y chili relleno. Great family restaurant! A must eat on your way back from the Tulip Festival. Service is friendly and you won't leave hungry. Hot chips and tasty salsa for starters go well with a margarita on the rocks. We passed this on the way into town, and the 'best margaritas' signage caught our eye. After we got checked in at the motel, dinner became a priority. Full parking lot, wait list for tables, and typical Saturday family dining chaos, but the staff was unruffled. We were seated quickly, and warm chips and tasty salsa long on green onion followed shortly. My Pacifico and a margarita (both a bargain, but not the best) helped us focus on the very complete menu. Not being too hungry my better half decided on a bowl of posole and I ordered a shredded beef mole enchilada. The amply sized bowl of posole was well spiced and meaty, with tortillas and avocado slices on the side. The enchilada was likewise very tasty. Service was very personable, food was high quality, and the prices were reasonable. I'd frequent this place if it was at home in Phoenix, and there are a ton of Mex spots there. We ordered a take out meal from this place. My husband called at 3:00pm to be picked up at 4:45. He went down to pick it up and had to wait almost 50 minutes because it wasn't ready. This is a really bad way to run a business. My husband would have just told them to cancel the order, but because he paid for it with his credit card, he didn't think they would refund his money. But we will never go there again for anything. And their pico de guyo( spelling is wrong ) is awful no flavor at all. Anyway, there are other Mexican places to eat, so don't waste your time here at this place. And their prices have gone way up. Not worth what you get. read more

Unfortunately, I have to downgrade the Mexico Cafe on the strength of our last two visits. One visit was take-out, and one was dine-in. On a Sunday after a long drive from Oregon, we ordered take-out. We just wanted to go home and enjoy our dinner. I ordered the Steak Chimichanga for my wife. I repeatedly said 'steak' on the phone. When I arrived, I could see the server had rung up 'chicken chimichanga' on the tab. I corrected this, and he said, "No, it's steak." I waited ten minutes. (I thought maybe he was having the kitchen correct the mistake.) No such luck. Chicken chimichanga was what surprised my wife when we got home. So, I called the Mexico Cafe, and they offered to give me a replacement steak chimichanga the next time we were in... ... so a week later we decided to dine at the Mexico Cafe. I had the steak chimichanga, and my wife ordered a taco combo plate. It's almost like she's cursed with local dining lately, because the steak chimichanga was really good, but her taco combo plate was a virtual pool of grease. As she held the taco above her plate, it was just a soggy mess (almost as bad as a taco from Jack in the Box). Three or four bites of the whole meal and she was done. She wasn't interested in a plate of grease. To top it off, we had a newer server who was just overwhelmed. A disappointment, say the least. Note: Always check Yelp's 'Filtered Reviews.' I stopped into eat here for a late lunch while visiting the tulip festival & had a wonderfully gigantic and satisfying meal. Mexico Cafe has a really large menu with many choices, and also has a section with lighter/healthier options. I ordered the "small combo" which is quite a misnomer because there was nothing small about it...1 taco, 1 tostado, 1 enchilada, and a giant mound of rice & beans. The tostada was standard good, nothing special but certainly not bad. The enchilada was the standout from my meal - thick fried tortilla, lots & lots of gooey cheese (every bite had a trail of melted cheese oozing down...fantastic), and a really delicious flavorful enchilada sauce (I got the standard red enchilada sauce, however they have moles & other options too). Mmm that enchilada sauce was really good & every bite of that enchilada was fantastic. I couldn't eat the taco, but it had a freshly fried shell & regular taco fillings. The rice was very good (good strong flavors) but the whole beans were really bland (probably the reason the tostada was eh). Their free salsa is delicious, which is always a good indication that a Mexican food place is on the right path. read more

This place has queso dip!!!!!!!!! And tomatillo sauce!!!! The flavors of the food was outstanding. Truly, Mexican food can sometime be cookie cutter, but this place was not. I was so happy once I got my enchiladas. I ordered shredded beef and chicken enchiladas. The chicken was moist and flavorful, as was the beef. I forgot what the hubby got, but I did eat his leftovers the next day, to his displeasure. I enjoyed them!! Great service as well. This review is only for their delivery service. If I could give it ZERO stars I would. I have had the worst luck. First time they messed up mine and my husbands order and forgot the chips and salsa, when I called to tell them what happened the owner (wife) stated there was nothing they could do because the chips and salsa were complementary and if I wanted them to fix my order I would have to go in because they were backed up on delivery orders. Second time (because I thought what the heck I'll give them another chance because I love their food so much) it took almost 15 minutes to just get the host to understand our address. I asked her to repeat it back to me once we got it down and she said it correctly. It took exactly TWO HOURS to get our food and the driver even forgot our Pepsi. I called to tell them this was unacceptable and she said we can credit your account for the Pepsi but it took two hours because they coulsnt find my house because apparently I gave them the wrong address. Okay first off why would I give them a bogus address, the host repeated it back to me and said it correctly and then the lady I was complaining to had the nerve to say they tried to call me 4-5 times. Since 1972 My family and I have been faithful customers and we will remain as such. Their cheese and onion enchilada and their patty tacos with the deep fried corn tortillas are my favorite as well as their margaritas. The combination of the tacos, and enchilada with the sauce and melted cheeses on top, are not tasted anywhere else and there have been many attempts to find that in any other Mexican restaurant with no success. We came in on a Friday evening the waitress was new, we found out later, we ordered some food and beers. I specifically asked our waitress about my dinner choice and was told the Carne Asada was the skirt steak and another choice, so I ordered it with shrimp. When my dinner came, it was two skewers with four small shrimp each, obviously precooked from a package, and not grilled at all, with no steak. I asked where the steak was, the waitress said she would go ask and next thing we knew the owner/manager was there and she was angry and rude. She said I mis interpreted the menu and if I wanted steak it would be an UP CHARGE! I explained that I specifically asked the waitress, she confirmed our conversation too, the lady insisted it was my error and she wouldn't make it right! I chose to send it back and not have anything rather than pay an up charge! Nice servers terrible manager! Turns out she's an owner and clearly doesn't care enough about customer satisfaction to make a mistake by a new server right. I will never come back here and suggest you don't either. The menu was big, the Chile Rellenos were very good and so were the margaritas. However, the women's bathroom had no soap so they brought her a pump bottle that was moldy. It makes you wonder how safe the food was given the waitresses couldn't wash their hands sufficiently. Stay away! The food is not very tasty, (I've had better) but it is very greasy. Other people dining with me ordered tacos and literally you could wring them like a sponge and the grease would flow out like water! The waitresses response to the complaint was "well the hamburger is going to exude some oil". Never have I seen so much grease come from a meal ready to be eaten anywhere, not even a meal prepared at home! My plate was the smothered burrito. It tasted ok, nothing notable about it. I ordered the ground beef and it was more greasy than other food I have eaten but not even close to being as greasy as the tacos. I ate the burrito and left felling ok but disappointed. I was shocked by the prices! Most dishes were a full 5 dollars above other similar restaurants in the area. I had a hard time choosing anything at all after that. I was extremely embarrassed, thinking, am I just cheap? Or even more poor than I thought? How do these people afford this? I wanted to walk out, but I knew my boyfriend would be upset. I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu lol, my plan before I got there was to order the most expensive thing! I was thinking 15 bucks or so....when almost EVERYTHING on the menu was between 15.95 and 17.95, it turned me right off! One taco for 8.95. ONE. I ordered a taco salad, the ground beef was so salty, it was inedible. I ate some lettuce, and a couple pieces of the shell. The server didn't seem to think it was odd, and simply took our plates away. I wonder how many others actually found their food inedible? Not to mention that the "spicy salsa" is not salsa at all, but appears to be nothing more than chili paste.... I will never eat here again. This place used to be where our whole family went when we wanted Mexican food. After my experience there a few months ago, I'll never go back...and I never even ended up ordering. I went for lunch and asked a waitress at the door for a menu so I could order something to go. I was the only one waiting, and she was busy wiping down menus. Without looking up, she muttered, "Yeah, here," and handed me one. Since the last time I'd visited, the prices had nearly doubled! At any other Mexican restaurant a cheese quesadilla comes with pico de gallo in it, beans and rice, garnish, sour cream...etc. And it would be for half the price of what Mexico Cafe charges for two tortillas and some melted cheese. When they serve the Chips and Salsa they also ask you if you want the Spicy Salsa - say Yes! Our dining experience here was not pleasant. My partner and I felt extremely nauseous after leaving the restaurant. When we walked in, there was no host ready to seat us. We sat there for about 5 minutes watching staff walk by, look at us, decide it's not their job to help seat us and then kept walking. When we were seated we noticed the tables had advertising all over it. I get it, it's probably good money that they are getting from these advertisements, but wow it looks tacky. We also watched people who ordered after us get food before us. When we finally got the food we were even more unimpressed. Anything with Chili Verde is awesome. I have several favorites which makes it such a hard choice. Smothered tamales, chimichangas , chicken fajitas, carna asada tacos, the 3 taco dinner. See I have a hard time. Lol. Friendly staff. They are there to make a great dining experience for you. The margaritas are so yummy and strong. Yes sometimes there isn't enough spice to something but then everyone would then complain that it was TO spicy or hot! You can always add heat or spice but can't take it away. Just tell the server your likes. And to the people who say they got sick. It takes 24 to 48 hours for any food born illness to take affect. It was more likely from the meals before the last one they ate. Ps cheese is a big part of the gooey Mexican experience people. It's good to read what's good and not so good about places. But, 40 years in business must tell you all something right! read more
