server was trying hard and pretty sure she was new, but This isn't about her, even though I received a whole burrito instead of the half that I ordered what came next, I believe could only have circumvented through the depths of hell, the 8th circle that Dante dare not go to. A 10 dollar burrito, that was filled with grade D beef and refried beans. that is it. The cheese included was use to glue the ends of the burrito into some little unseasoned, Hispanic themed unibomber package. the 3 salsas they have are mild, hot, and sweet. or also known as pace, pace with red pepper, and then the unholy abomination of sweet? Please someone tell me how they do it. The only thing my roomates and I can come together is they strain the liquid from pace salsa and mix it with the ketchup pre cum that always ruins my hotdogs. regards Edit: currently 20 minutes after being infected with whatever they serve, my roomates are debating throwing up and saving us the pain from the food poisoning to follow. read more

I stopped in for lunch and all in all it is pretty good. It is a good value for the money you spend. The portion sizes are large so you will not go hungry when coming to Mexican Villa's. My only suggestion for them would be to get a better salsa for the chips they serve before the meal. I was not to impressed with it. Only reason I did not go 5 stars. Also the service is great too. We stopped in for dinner around 5:30pm today. The rice in our Mexican Villa Dinners was over cooked, the meat in the enchiladas tasted scorched, the tortilla chips were hard and the side order of queso dip tasted like it had been on the back burner all day long. There was also a thick layer of dust on our napkin dispenser. The plus sides were that our waitress was pleasant and polite, the guacamole dip was fresh and delicious, the beer was cold, the sweet sauce was yummy and the management was attentive when these issues were brought to his attention. I saw one member of staff that really made a positive impression on me- she was an older employee, dressed in black pants and a black t-shirt. She did not look frumpy in her uniform. Her longer hair was done in a well secured manner to assure that none was hanging down to get into food. She seemed to take pride in her job and her appearance. I wish I would've asked for her name. The others on that shift could take a lesson from her. We won't go back to this specific location even though it's been a family tradition for many years. We'll go to one of the Comida's branches or El Taco in the future. read more

Wayyy better then one on sunshine, Surprised actually because you can't tell from looks of it. Manager was some cute old man super friendly , servers were friendly, salsa still nasty though lol read more

While looking for another Mexican restaurant we came across this one. It has the old-fashioned nostalgic feel and that was fine for us. We like eating anything non-chain. The food was good, but nothing that blew us away. The mild sauce was interesting enough we bought some to take with us. It has a sweetness to it, a little bit of tang, and not too hot. The server warned us about the hot sauce and we steered clear of it. The dishes were very sparse when it comes to tomatoes and lettuce. Prices were reasonable. Service was lacking. We waited for drink refills and our check for far too long. Then we had to wait for her to come back with our change. I'm not dropping the stars for it but it should be noted and corrected. Some customers are not locals and they want to get back on the highway so time is of the essence once the food has been eaten. Can't say I absolutely must eat here again but maybe. read more

I've been eating at the original restaurant on National, for 40 yrs. and it's still one of a kind. The hot sauce is amazing! Since moving away, I don't get back often but, when I do it's still worth the trip back! Jeff read more

We loved having the mini jukebox at the tables. The food was plentiful, and good. Nothing spectacular. We'd come for their special, which both my friend and I ordered. I just wasn't impressed. Not much flavor, far too much cheese. The salsa was spicy, but tasted like tomato paste not salsa. The cheese sauce was quite good. The guacamole was very good - I liked the touch of paprika sprinkled over the top. read more

Best memories as a teenager is going to Springfield && then finishing off the evening with Mexican Villa! I hadn't been in several years - actually over a decade. My Aunt whom grew up in the same town I did (Hartville) had mentioned going here as a teenager as well. So accompanied by my brother an his family we all decided to check it out an see if it was still as we remembered. How in the world could you forget the burrito enchilada style? Droooooooooooooooooooooling just thinking about it. Covered in warm enchilada sauce & cheese?! BEST THING EVER!! An I actually love their sweet salsa. Although living in KC, MO -- I definitely favor a more authentic salsa full of cilantro & lime juice. So glad we stopped in!! read more

Um yuck!!! Coming from New Mexico, I know good Mexican food and this place is far from good. This place is worse than Taco Bell.

Terrible, I'm not sure what people of Springfield think salsa should be but this place is not serving good salsa or mexican food in general. Just moved up here from Texas a year ago ( this does not make me an expert in Tex Mex I understand that) and some the horrible stuff that is made in these places is embarrassing. The food was flavorless and over processed, they don't serve margaritas, I probably should have left after finding this out but trust me good Tex Mex food is out there, go find it. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. First off the place was so dirty then the tables, we sat in a booth, were dirty and also placed all messed up. Server took about 10 minutes just to greet us and give us chips like what? Our order came fast but the food was horrible. My boyfriend did not like his meal and rather than the waiter asking if he would like something else to try to fix it she made him feel stupid by telling him to go to Andy's Frozen Custard on the way home instead. So basically she stood there telling him how it's his fault and he should of ordered something else. Which is understandable he was the one that ordered that meal but it doesn't need to be said by the server and she especially shouldn't have made us both feel bad that THEIR food tasted like it was fresh off the garbage truck. Anyways, point of the story is this placed sucked ass and I will NEVER go there again. read more

Always my go to when I come to town. It is not what you would think of as authentic Mexican but it is a Springfield classic.

This place is awful. Tortilleria perches was voted second best taco in Missouri, only because they were confused about #1. They are the best Mexican place in town. Skip the disappointment of Mexican villa and go down to tortilleria perches, thank me later! read more

The staff have never been a problem, they are the only good thing about my experiences here. The food has a strong chili powder flavor and the salsa is sweet and syrupy and that isn't even their sweet salsa (yes there is an even sweeter version by request). I have given them several chances out of peer pressure but I have begun excluding myself from trips here. Mexican Villa, does have a cult following who love their food. This group mostly consists of people born and raised in Springfield, but if you ask almost anyone from outside of Springfield, you will likely receive a polar opposite opinion. read more

This was probably the worst Mexican restaurant if not worst restaurant in general I've ever been to. Nobody greeted us upon coming in. Just kind of pointed to where we should go sit. Waitress was nice, but not the best. Upon seating us she asked "do you guys want menus" and we felt very rushed. We have never been here before so of course we needed to see a menu. We were given chips with no salsa that tasted like they had been sitting there for a hot minute. Finally we asked for salsa after about 10 minutes and were given a small bowl of sauce that literally looked like the consistency of ketchup and tasted like Taco Bell sauce with a few peppers. It was DISGUSTING. Menu is not diverse what so ever. I ordered to cheese enchiladas. I was given a plate of two soggy enchiladas doused and drenched in their version of enchilada red sauce. Couldn't even see the enchiladas it was so drenched. She was slow to fill up drinks as well. I will definitely never be coming back again. read more

Worst Mexican food I ever tasted not even edible. The salsa tastes like ketchup and sugar. I don't like this and I won't recommend. And what's even with the ground beef doesn't taste like it. read more

I have been eating here all of my life. The National location was close to my Grandma Ethyl's home on Meadowmere. I love it because it is different than all of the Mexican restaurants that have spread from Texas throughout America. The sweet sauce is heaven but I buy the hot sauce by the gallon every time I drive through Springfield. If you like Mexican American you must eat here numerous times! Unique sauces and completely different chips. read more

Worst Mexican restaurant in town. The only reason it's still around is because people grew up eating it before any others were here.

By far the worst Mexican food I have ever had, and some of the worst food I have ever tasted in general. Horrible quality, worst salsa I have ever had period. The meat in the taco was like dog food, well I have never tasted dog food but I can tell you that a can of Alpo smells better then their beef. And the Tamale was worse than a canned version from your local grocery store and the Enchilada was a joke. The food was HORRIBLE !!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY !!!!. AND THE RESTAURANT WAS FILTHY TO BOOT... VERY DIRTY !!! You can get better Mexican food from a frozen entree at Walmart. Yes Folk's it's that bad, trust me. ZERO STARS IF IT WAS POSSIBLE read more

I have definitely experienced better. Let me put it this way. Its a Mexican restaurant that was founded by an Italian family. Doesn't make sense does it? Well neither does the food its self. it just alot of cheese, sour cream, enchilada sauce, and meat. Not much to and kinda bland. read more

Mexican Villa has been a staple in the diet of Springfieldians for who knows how many years. The food is not that great, but it is consistent. Now, you might think that with a name like Mexican Villa they served Mexican food, the really don't. It is what I think you would call Springfield-Mexican. The queso is good, but the only thing that I will get and many will attest to this is the burrito enchilada style. Just pay attention because with that sauce on there that thing stays freakin' hot for hours, sometimes I think it's nuclear, it is so hot. I always walk away with a blistered mouth. The service is always good and they have one of the best fountain Cokes in the area. So if you want a Springfield tradition Mexican Villa is the way to go, if you want Mexican food then you might need to go south of the border. read more

This is the best Mexican Villa in Springfield! Awesome chips and food! Love sitting up front and listening to the juke box! Manager is very friendly! read more

The nastiest wanna be Mexican food I have ever tasted. I knew I was in trouble when I asked my server for Pico de Gallo and she told me they had mild or hot sauce, and that was it. No avocado, guacamole, or salsa verde. Sour cream in packets! That is wrong on so many levels. read more

No just no. The salsa taste like sweet and sour sauce from chinese resturantes and the staff knows it but "the owner loves the flavor so we serve it" the meat on anything is subpar its more reminiscent of school taco meat. I was told the queso dip was to die for but I was givin something akin to a jar of cheese dip. This place is called a springfield favorite, im not origionally from springfield but ive been here for 13 years and I still dont see it. read more

This is a great place to go for a quick lunch. If you're expecting an "authentic" Mexican food experience, you might be slightly disappointed as the fine folks here serve up some good ol Tex-Mex cuisine. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it is clear that many of the patrons are regulars. The staff is always pleasant and polite, and the speed at which your food comes out is always impressive. The food won't blow you away, but it's definitely something you'll find yourself craving at some point. My go to has always been three tacos, which I drench in the sweet sauce. They have a mild sauce, a sweet sauce and on the table there is a jar of their spicy salsa, so don't be deterred if you're not a fan of sweet sauce. Definitely a place to check out if you're going to be in Springfield for a while. read more

Went for dinner last night love Mexican Villa. This is a very clicky Mexican Villa if the waitresses and the management don't know you by name when you walk through the door and have your special table he said that every week ready then you get treated like crap we didn't get refills one single time we were there our order was wrong the waitress never checked on us never asked us how we were doing just basically stupid our table to go order left never saw her again will not go back to this location. Mind you she was over on other tables of hers just chatting away having a good ol time with the people that she knew read more

This is old-time Springfield MO Mexican food. My DH doesn't go for it but it is comfort food for this girl. The taco with white American cheese, the maroon leather booths, the freshly made tortilla chips, the Chico plate, steamed corn tortillas with cold butter...yum. Service is usually good, the National location is the best, most comforting. Oh yeah, those crazy booth jukebox things are fun too. I've had more authentic Mexican food, fresher and more zippy, but I keep coming back to this place for a dose of childhood. read more

I will NEVER go to this establishment again for any reason at all. Waited an hour to be served had to ask to have drinks refilled and finally after NOT getting our food we left. Upon leaving we were confronted by the cook and were told he spent 25 minutes preparing our food and started cussing at my wife and 3 young children! I highly recommend finding another place to eat that's punctual, professional and does not have employees who cuss out patrons for them not doing the job they were hired to do. This place should be ashamed of themselves. NOTHING that is said or offered could convince me to go back. Update to now from 4 days ago. I called the corporate office Monday morning and was told the owners were not in, and after explaining what happened I was told they would be calling me the following day and I have yet to hear anything back from anyone. Just further shows how bad this place truly is and obviously could care less about the customers! read more

I had the best experience at this restaurant. My girl friends and I went for a birthday dinner. We were seated quickly, and the waiter was the sweetest lady ever. During our visit a sweet man sitting next to us PAID for all five of us!!! I ordered The Burrito Enchilada Style, and it was AMAZING!!! Later, the server brought us free cinnamon sopapillas! I am not kidding that I will forever support this genuine family restaurant. read more

I disagree with some recent reviews that "things haven't changed". Things HAVE changed and they've changed for the worse. Been going here for decades and used to like it enough to return on a regular basis. Not any more. Their amazing, flavorful, melt in your mouth White American Cheese was discontinued. Kraft no longer makes their special recipe custom for them as of at least a couple of years ago and it reflects loudly in the diminished quality of every dish that used that cheese. That's complaint one. Next, their hot sauce got hotter but is losing flavor. Spicy for spicy's sake is not for a restaurant's signature hot sauce. Their ground meat doesn't even look like ground meat, it looks like overly processed meat. The proportions of food (not that it matters now) have become smaller over the years per dish. They've been in business long enough and are busy enough to be able to afford renovating the older restaurants which really are getting beyond grimy. Nostalgia got the best of me and I wanted it to get better, but every time I would go back in the last 2-3 years I would be disappointed which resulted in more time in between visits - months. I finally gave in to accept that it will never be the same again. The food is not as good as it once was. Things don't taste the same at all, and it just keeps getting worse. Springfield native or not, don't waste your time. Go to Tortilleria Perches instead and start with the tamales, beef cheek tacos, fish tacos, pasole, nopales... well, you get the picture. read more

I'm really not sure what everyone finds so great about this place. I tried it once because a few people raved about it. The first time, I didn't like it. I tried it again a few years later and my opinion didn't change. The staff were friendly. I just didn't care for the food. If you ask me, it was average. There are plenty of better Mexican restaurants in town. read more

This place is a joke, every location around town sucks the same. There is nothing Mexican about Mexican villa. There food is all from a can and has no flavor whatsoever. They microwave the food , the hot sauce is hot which is needed to burn the taste of the food out of your mouth. I have no idea how this place has been able to stay open all these years? I realize Springfield people have no idea what good food tastes like after living here for a number of years, but this is the worst excuse for a resturant I have ever experienced. I give it one star be wise I can't give it zero. read more

Worst Mexican food I have ever had. This place makes Taco Bell look authentic. Do not go here if you've ever had decent Mexican food. I've had better Mexican food from a food truck. read more

The best mexican food I have ever had in my life. Anytime we go to springfield we stop here! Keep it up!

I was very disappointed in the product they call food. I ordered an enchilada and mexican rice. The rice was decent but the enchiladas tasted like they had been frozen and then reheated. They were flavorless and dry and the sauce was utterly repulsive. I will never eat here again. read more

How many years have I eaten here? I think my Mom used to put the hot sauce in a bottle and feed it to me when I was just a tot. The place has performed some renovations over the years and has really tried to keep up. I would love to see them mandate the wearing of undershirts by their staff. That's really my only complaint. read more

Funky and affordable Mexican food from the 70's. I ordered the tamales and I'm almost certain they're the same you get at the grocery in a can (which I actually like). The restrooms were a bit scummy. The guy who ran the cash register couldn't have been less friendly. But hey it was like $4. read more

Meh...husband loves the burrito enchilada style. I still haven't found anything I like on the menu. I've tried the burrito enchilada style, didn't care for it. The nachos are horrible as was the taco salad. Everything had a sweet "after taste" for lack of better explanation. Even just a taco tastes like the meat has sugar added to it. I don't want sweet tasting mexican food. They have a sweet salsa that's awful and even the mild has a sweet taste to it. I avoid the salsa completely. Plus, we went tonite and 6 days after Christmas they're still playing Christmas music. Make. It. Stop. I dislike Christmas music before Christmas but it makes my ears bleed after. read more

I've been reading and laughing at all the reviews that talk about it not being Mexican food. Duh! And as for the ingredients being subpar or going downhill all I can say is it still tastes good to me. It's obvious upon seeing the menu that it's not an authentic Mexican restaurant. But seriously, who cares?! It's ground beef and white cheese and it's excellent for a quick unhealthy treat. I'm not sure what people mean when they say salsa, as there are three choices. On the table is hot sauce, which isn't watery at all, and tasty and above all HELL HOT. There is also sweet sauce and mild sauce. The sweet sauce is extremely watery, but it's delicious, so yeah, it's watery...I guess (is that a bad thing? The soda is also watery, does that need mentioning?) They also have a mild sauce, which isn't chunky but does stick to the chip just fine. The chips are fried, and are often hot and always fresh (at least when I'm there). As for entrees I go with tacos or a sancho, pouring copious amounts of sweet sauce and hot sauce on both. Nirvana! Everyone else I know gets the burrito enchilada style. So come and enjoy if you want to really taste our lovely town. I do agree with the reviewer who would like to see a little renovation, especially to the bathrooms. But damn! The food! Just try it! read more
