I had the fish tacos which were ok. I'd also ordered Guacamole with chips The Guacamole was runny, eww and didn't taste nor look like Guac other than it was green! This was $2.50, not worth it at all. I did get the "chunky" salsa. Again this had no flavor. I was so excited about finding a Mexican carry out that was authentic. They're not fancy but their food is so good! I usually get tacos and cheese enchiladas. I'm from Texas where they have TexMex. This is the closest I could find to that. read more

Came here because it was very close to our hotel and wanted breakfast burritos. the were not the best I've had at other places but they were good size burritos and the salsa was pretty good. I wish they didn't charge for the salsa. ($.50 each for a small container) read more

I ordered take out - Thursday evening. The place was busy. Mostly take out - no ambiance but hey it's a primarily to go business. This was the best chicken enchiladas I've ever had - they were fresh, the chicken was tender and it tasted like home cooking. That alone would have me order again. Found this wonderful restaurant by chance, it's within walking distance of several hotels. Food was absolutely some of the best Mexican cuisine I've had. Large portions and quick service in a colorful decor. Lots of choices, all looked delicious. Did I mention they have a liquor license as well? This restaurant will not disappoint. read more

A bit disappointed with my experience at Purple Burrito. You get what you pay for because this is a value-based restaurant that appears to compete with a nearby Wendy's and Arby's out by the Springfield airport. You're likely to find menu options between $5-10 (I've tried the carne asada plate and an order of tacos with rice and beans). They do not offer complimentary chips/salsa, nor do they offer frijoles charros (my favorite style of beans). The tortillas were bland and remind me of generic, store-bought options. As a general rule, in my opinion- if the meat you serve requires a significant amount of salsa and/or sauce for flavor, then it doesn't get the job done. The same goes for rice and beans. The food simply lacked flavor and quality. If I am looking for sit down experience that has a bit more authenticity, I'll likely look elsewhere. read more

I went on the one one Campbell. The service was nice. The guy taking the order was very friendly. I ordered 1 steak burrito and 1 chicken chawarma for $ 22. The items were huge. Plenty of filling in both. The taste was okay. On the downside no veggies in either of them. Definitely not your Lebanese chawarma. No tahini or toum, instead some mayo and ketchup. Stopped to check it out, pleasantly surprised to find rolled tacos as good as back home. Small salsa bar that needed refilling, slightly messy, too quiet vibe. The downer was the hospitality or lack of. Two people working, looking very professional in their black, chef's jackets but barely friendly and sadly, unwelcoming. The interesting thing is that I placed my order and within 5-6 minutes my burritos and tacos were done. A place like this should have a line out the door because there is nothing like this on this side of town. Had the 2 beef taco platter for $9 when could have had the special chicken taco for $5.75. I thought it was quite bland, portions very skimpy (4 pieces of chips?) Beans and rice the same - very skimpy portions for $9. I saw what some other folks ordered and they looked much better. I'm going to try a few more times to get a better evaluation. So far it is just an "ok" for me. But I remain open minded. read more

I highly doubt that this is what Californians like in Mexican food, based on how highly they regard their opinions on food. I ordered the carnitas combo to go. The service was quick, but supremely unenthusiastic. The carnitas were greasy. I was hungry, so I let that slide. Salsa was good, and there were several choices. Sides of rice and beans were quite simply, pathetic. No flavor, no substance. If I wanted that, I would have gone to taco bell. Very disappointed overall. Burrito nearly $8 and consisted of in unseasoned meat, raw green peppers, onions, and a flour tortilla that tasted like they imported it straight from Mexico, TWO YEARS AGO. Wow. This place is *the best*. I know people who go other places; better known, more expensive and not anywhere near as good. This is my 2nd review. Today I had Carne Asada and again it was awesome. Food like my mom would make (if she cooked Mexican.) Don't have any suggestions for improvement. I am not complaining but there was more than I could finish. I'm sure it will make great leftovers. I really liked the fried tacos and the burritos looked really good. My tamale was a bit dry and hard on one end. Hard to tell in the husk and I asked they didn't take it off. Probably wound not have served it had they known. Really cool guys working there. Quite authentic! read more

Stopped here after a trip to Bass Pro craving Mexican. Prices were good but food was just okay. After reviews I expected a bit more.. Almost immediately on our way home both my girlfriend and I did not feel so good. Stomachs were in knots and ended up on the toilet for 2 days...Girlfriend, child and I. We eat a lot of Mexican so it has nothing to do with that but this place was absolutely not worth the stop. Should have gone back to the place up the street. read more

Did a take out order here when I came back to Springfield for a wedding and was staying at a nearby hotel. Wish I had known about this place when I was living here. This restaurant is a joke. Go to Taco Bell instead of wasting your time. Went in on Sunday with my family of 5 after traveling. They told us we had to take our food to go because they were closing soon.
