The Midwest Genealogy Center is a gem for those interested in their family histories. I can spend…read morehours at a time and not know where the time went. The library has an outstanding collection of genealogical resources and through a partnership with the Family History Library in Salt Lake, the resources available are nearly endless. You also have access to electronic resources through Ancestry Library Edition while you are on-site. What I like best is the layout of the library. It has a very open feel, complimented by high windows that allow a lot of sunlight to come in. There are many different working configurations...desks, tables, chairs and sofas. I find that this library is much more comfortable than most and I'll drive the 30 minutes to do my research here rather than working from a closer library. Not sure where to start? The Midwest Genealogy Center offers several classes for all levels of amateur genealogists. You can also arrange a consultation with a volunteer genealogist to help you overcome any research barriers. This library is fair. They don't have every book I want, and I honestly, don't always use them. The check in is sometimes slow. The computers are available, but often used (heck, I don't care about that). They have programs during the week that are free. I often check out large printed books for my mom, and this library doesn't have all that the library on 35th and Noland has. Still, despite what it doesn't have, it does have, usually, what I want. They also have a nice magazine selection. (once again, what an excellent way to find out if you want to actually go to the store and buy the magazine,) you can read it at the library. I was surprised to see a quilting magazine there. I had ordered a book to be on hold for me, and it took about a week and a half. It was easy to find, once I got into the library. Also, I was approached by a very kind employee asking if I needed any help finding what I was looking for. No matter how well the library shelves are labeled, it's always nice to have someone help me find a book.

This is such an easy library to be a fan of. The location is incredibly ideal, just off I-29 and…read moreright on the Platte City exit with lots of other shops and restaurants and banks. Inside, there's a decent quantity of books available, but what's nice is they always have the New York Times bestselling books present and on display. There's also a very large selection of dvds and CDs and other multimedia content. This library offers 6 public computers with full Internet access and a few others with library catalog capability. There are plenty of chairs, desks, and couches available for leisurely reading or quiet work which I highly recommend taking advantage of. Furthermore, there is a large room on the north end which is used for special activities, including children's readings and art projects! One more thing I really like here is that they are open till 9 pm on Monday and Thursday evenings... Very accommodating for later schedules. A downside is it's not open later more often... But what can you expect in a small-town library? The staff here are super, super friendly and a huge help with anything the customer needs. The facilities are new and nice. Come and enjoy this library as much as I do!

Today was the first time that I took my children into the library to see what activities they…read moreoffered. I keep hearing about wiggle time and story time which sound like great programs. However, I will not be returning because while I was there only one employee seemed remotely friendly. The ladies who in the very back in what I believe in the teen section were not friendly at all. The one in the very first office in the back gave me dirty looks when our eyes met. Plus one of the patrons were giving my children dirty looks when we first walked into the building. I always thought the library was a place where everyone should be welcomed and that was not the feeling that I had while I was there.

Also, if they don't have something you need, they will request from another library for you.
