If you are running late to drop off a letter with payment, at the drop box, which is inconveniently located inside the door, after having a phone interview, do not even try. They close the doors five minutes before their actual closing time. I was there out front pulling the door handle at 3:56 P.m., and the door was locked. I saw a gray haired man coming out of the side of the building, getting in his truck and asked if he worked there. He said he did. I asked him if I could drop off a letter for Gary with payment. He said he cannot help me. I said, what if I gave you a tip? He still turned it down... Looked like he was getting ready to get out of there and go fishing for the weekend. This has really put my mother in a hard spot, as we will now have to come back up there Monday and retry earlier in the day when we are supposed to be at work. read more

Useless and condescending officer and "supervisor". Talk about abuse of their public servant title. The staff at the windows are generally very knowledgeable and give you their best advise to handle situations but when the local office misplaces paperwork or fails to forward it to the appropriate office, escalation is handled unprofessionally and no actual follow up. The white supervisor with the terrible makeup and ridiculous hair definitely needs to be retained and brought down a peg. Her response to a genuine mistake on the SSA's part which delayed my fathers benefits was inadequate, condescending and disrespectful. The way to handle someone who is mourning and in pain is by showing compassion, kindness and understanding. Not "he's dead now, it's a different department that handles that and we can't help you here". Hope she learns from this get reprimanded. I know if I make a mistake at my job, I get in trouble. Accountability is lacking in this office and have a disgusting way of treating the public. You are a PUBLIC SERVANT! read more

A social security office in Independence Missouri, is by far the worst social security office ever. They have people there who abuse their positions and speak horrifically to others. They lose paperwork for months at a time and communication is piss poor, along with many people giving different information across people, along with them talking bad about others to other clients. They do not want to hear your concerns or your questions. They clearly don't even know the law many aspects. But yet they make decisions on this and oversight is absolutely needed in this office. Further research will show you that many people have experienced abuse from this office and been treated very disrespectfully, along with further research will also show you people who have left there, who work their previously, reporting how they are disgusted with how people abuse their positions in this office. There are literally people in this office who say they are the federal government and they can do whatever they want and literally talk down to people, who are on disability.. thankfully many people have started keeping recordings of these calls. It would seem that people who work in this office, would have a little more empathy and be a little more educated about disabilities. But clearly, whoever is hiring people has no moral compass and appears to embrace degeneracy. It is ruly disgusting what is going on in this office. read more

Seriously, if I could give them a zero I would. I have never in my life encountered a more useless customer service organization and we pay for them with our Social Security and Federal Taxes. I have had to resend documents and there has been no progress none. Honestly it is a total joke of an organization, no call backs, no emails no communication. Be prepared to go into the abyss and stay there. President W. Bush was right we should have privatized them them and fired all the dead wood. read more

I feel the need to write a review because I feel that public government places get a bad rep. I showed up without an appointment, was greeted by a very friendly police officer who directed me to a lady to help me check in. She asked a few questions of why I was there and handed me a ticket and asked that I sit in the waiting area to be called. I already filled out the form I needed at home so sat for 10 minutes or so before being called up to a counter. The man who helped me was very kind and quick. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes and every employee was extremely nice and helpful. Being kind to someone goes a long way! read more

I had to apply for a new social security card, so I went this morning and it was a great experience. I never fill out reviews, but I'm going to let you guys know things have changed here! The building is fully renovated inside and out, it's clean, there's organization, and a nice waiting area! The security guard on duty was super friendly and kind, the booths were private as the should be, and the systematics of the line has been greatly improved. I waited for nearly 10 minutes before getting called up to one of the booths! The whole experience was quick, easy, and the workers were professional and kind. The last thing I will add is, try to go into a place like the social security office or DMV with a good attitude. The workers see a lot of people and the day can get long. Treat people with kindness and respect, put yourself in others shoes. Just thought everyone should see an updated review for this business, it deserves much more than a one star rating for sure. read more
