I never envisioned writing a positive review for a DMV. After all, the letters DMV usually send chills up a person's back when contemplating having to go on that annual or biannually visit. I have visited Gladstone DMV twice in the past 60 days for driver's licence and vehicle plates renewals. Both experiences were fairly quick and painless - 25 minutes tops and that was with a 18 to 25 people ahead of me in the electronic line that keeps you updated on your cell phone. I actually had the same person assist me on both visits. But Dylan helped us with a wonderful attitude, very helpful answered any questions we had and we were out in less than 20 minutes. Awful design for citizens with unseen disabilities. At sign in, there is no person, just a tablet you put your name on and that is it. The tablet does have a check box for "disability" with no explanation of what it means. At check in you do not get a ticket or a text with your line position. You just have to wait and hope you understand your name when they holler it through personal loudspeakers at each desk- which is behind plexiglass. The loudspeaker outside does not work and there is no scrolling monitor inside or out with status so you cannot wait outside or in your car. Not having these small conveniences makes for a much worse customer experience. Now that all DMV offices are private you would think they would want to do better. Very disappointing. read more

They heard you in like sheep, they have no more seats left, but sternly tell you the aisle is not available to stand in. As you are so close to the person next to you, that you can smell and feel their breath. Is this paradise? Is this hell? I know not what inspired such a disorganized and FUBAR operation that is licensed but not operated by the state, but I do know that the employees that work here are incredibly unhappy. I know that the ancillary technology is all broken and/or not interconnected. You can't make an appointment on the kiosk even though it says make an appointment on the screen. The link on the website to make an appointment is broken. The website looks like the coding of a 1st year high school student messing around with a 20 year old version of MS Frontpage. In closing, I would say this experience is tantamount to what I think he'll must be, or would hell be better? read more

I've never had a more frustrating experience. We got our son's instructional permit at this location 6 months ago. We had all our paperwork and the representative from the office asked if we wanted a Real ID. We said sure. (We were NOT warned that's a bad idea for a permit). Flash forward 6 months. We get the drivers test done with the highway patrol and head back to the office. We start going thru the process and realize we were a couple days early. No biggie. They hand us back the paperwork and tell us to come back on Sept 4th. That was obviously Labor Day so we went back this am. All the same paperwork was brought in. The first lady we worked with said she had to call the state because the system was telling her it was still too early for a license but it was clearly past the 6 months. After waiting for nearly 20 minutes she tells us that in fact we have to wait another 6 months and get a new permit because they voiced his permit the previous time we went in. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager was not very kind. She kept saying "there's nothing we can do" and just gave us the states number to call. I kept asking for an explanation of why her office would have voided his permit and she said it was because he had a real ID. She said "this office always tells customers to not get a real Id on a permit". Which is factually inaccurate because we were NOT told that at the beginning of the process. We were also NOT told that his permit was voided the previous time we went in. I kept asking how they could help because their office did all of this. We simply sat in a chair and handed them the paperwork. She was condescending and rude. While I understand they can't circumvent the state's system she could have been open to explaining what happened - explain their process - apologize for her staff apparently not following protocol. I would highly suggest using another office if the manager (and apparently the owner - as I asked for their contact info and she said "it's me") doesn't have the necessary customer service skills needed in these environments. read more

Rude and condescending staff. They made an error, blamed it on me and my daughter saying we should have known. She went in for her permit 6 months ago, went back today to get her drivers license. 6 months ago after she took her permit test and passed, today we went to obtain her drivers license, They issued an ID instead. Since that happened, she now has to wait another 6 months to get her license. When going thru this process, the lady very rudely said- do you see where it says class? It says F underneath it. That's how you know what kind of license it is. Like we were supposed to know that! I assumed (that is MY fault) that when walking into the DMV and handing them a passing permit test, we would be getting a permit for driving, not a state issue ID. Now I know to always TRIPLE check. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she looked at me and smiled, and condescendingly said- you already did. This is your fault. I'm blown away. Please always double check and make sure that F is under class! Because us laymen (not in that business) should know that!! read more

No one enjoys going to the DMV. The waiting, the questions, never having the correct paperwork. It's one of humanity's shared experiences. But I really think this DMV is the best. Yah you still have to wait. But they have SEATS. And they have an iPad waiting system. Put your name in, sit down, watch TikChat for 20 minutes and yes that was my wait time...my first trip. Due to the dealer and inspection shops faults I did not have my paperwork in order. I left, got that sorted and then back to DMV. Lobby was standing room only this time. So put my name back on the list and started looking for a corner to doomscroll my FaceChat. But...my name was called within 45 seconds! Apparently the system is good enough to know if you are a "repeat visitor" and bumped me up the line. Of all the technology in the world--Bluetooth, lithium batteries, microwaves, Roomba--this system at the DMV is by far the best in existence. first, they forget to put my name in the system so I sit for an hour until they tell me that I'm not there second they don't tell me the requirement I need for the E license I wait another 25 minutes just to find out that I need to go home and grab more documents. I recently moved from St L to North KC. Had a not my fault accident & my car was totaled. Went there to title my new car; they were only allowing 4 people to be in line so I was given a ticket & asked to sit in my car til my # was called. About 15 mins. I was called in to wait in line which moved steadily. The woman helping me was friendly & answered all my ?'s. Unfortunately, the dealer failed to give me an OD/ID so she put all my paperwork together and directed me to Midas down the street to get that. Midas was great, got what I needed & returned to DMV. Instead of waiting again to be called, the woman at the door let me go on in to the line. The second woman gathered my paperwork and completed what I needed. A lot of people were there to be waited on but everyone was friendly, even tho several people beside me were asked to return with something they lacked. read more

The staff aren't the most nicest but they are trying to be efficient. They just want to get things done and people on their way. I walked in to transfer plates because I sold a car and then bought a car but I didn't have everything that I needed so they marked on a form the stuff that I still need. It was helpful. To no fault of the staff but the requirement of papers for vehicles is a bit too much. It's easy to forget one paper or form especially from private sellers to stop the process at dmv completely. Did you know that DMV offices are not run by the state of Missouri? I learned that these locations are outsources, which is odd, but also puts them into the space where they need to consider their customers and the levels of service. Been to this location a number of times over the years and you have to give them credit for efficiently processing hundreds of people. The crowd that is in this joint at any given time can be daunting, but rest assured they will get through it quickly, and in my experience with some good humor. At least twice, I've forgotten something or did the paperwork wrong and they just helped me fix it - no problem. read more

They tried telling me I need to go get a court order against the dealership I bought the car from. I took it to another DMV, and everything was fine. Title was completely okay. This one star rating is not due to hyperbole or vengeance, it's an accurate depiction of how there is no such thing as any sort of consistency or communication. I went in to pay my tax on a new car and get plates, the first time I was told I just needed a personal property tax wavier and a lien release. They wrote on the back of my title the amount I paid for it. After getting my wavier and lien release form I went back and "the lady with hairy arms" rudely asked why I wrote on the title. I explained the previous employee I had seen the week prior had done this and she told me that "that is untrue" and "lying would not help my case". She also told me that I needed a notarized form for a bill of sale even though I had my title, lien, and bank paperwork with me. I left and went to the Liberty DMV, and got everything taken care of with the same documents in hand I took to the Antioch office, with much friendlier service. If you live in Clay County juat save yourself the headache and go to the Liberty DMV. read more

Went to Gladstone license office at 8:25 am., July 2. Already many people in line. A worker had us in 3 lines-appointments, license renewal, and new plates (the really long line) My license was renewing so I was in shorter line, but when I got in (booth 6), she was a younger girl and when I told her I wanted a "real id" since it was a requirement for domestic flights next year she said I could wait until next year. I had all the documents required so I could take care of it now instead of making another trip next year and would have taken an extra 5 minutes, but she just looked at me blankly. I was very patient in waiting in line and would appreciate being taken care of properly when you are finally being waited on. Also, the place is highly unsanitary when taking the eye/sign test. read more
