Focusing on the Overland Park Recycling Extravaganza that took place yesterday with this review…read more 25 Stars to Jim Twigg for putting together such a great event!!! The traffic flow was good and smooth. It was amazing. One location took computers, TV's and electronics for a small fee. Another took shredding for a donation to animal rescue. Pull around the curve and donations were taken for fabric, yarn, and sewing items. Next stop, a new non-profit that takes shoes of all types for men, women and children and gives them away. They also take donations year round at their store Elite Feet in Hawthorne Plaza. ReStore and Goodwill were there. Lo and Behold Revolve was taking bicycles to refurbish and give to others who need transportation and their children. Yet another was taking medical equipment like wheelchairs and shower seats...to be sold at a very low price to those in need. Another was taking lawn mowers and equipment for use during community garden creating. It gets even better with someone taking books...all kinds of books and the profits from the sale of those will go to charity. Last but not least and these guys get 25 Stars, too. The Overland Park Police officers were there taking expired medications. Throwing these down the toilet is bad for our water system....don't do that. Save those and donate them during this event next year. They are destroyed properly when given to the officers. If you missed this event this year...you missed out. Watch the Overview for next year when you can make these donations and get stuff you don't want out of your house or apartment and either help others or help the environment. What a beautiful day and fantastic event this was....all thanks to the City of Overland Park and the volunteers that offered to help make it possible.

Those concerns quickly disappeared, largely thanks to the Bumblebees who are consistently present in the area. The Rivermarket is clean, welcoming, and truly feels like a neighborhood. Simply having them around makes me feel safer and more at ease living downtown.

They responded to my requests for their heavy metal trash receptacles for our neighborhood by placing one at the corner of 8th & Chatlotte, and another at Cherry & 7th. There are well over 500 families living in three residential condominiums in our Downtown KCMO neighborhood, and many more residing in adjacent areas including workers, which need trash receptacles to dispose of litter & trash. This is a great beginning. Eventually, we hope that Downtown Community Improvement District (CID) will be able to place one if their heavy duty trash cans on each & every street corner throughout Downtown. We cooperate by picking up litter & placing it in their trash cans. The more accessible these trash containers are, the cleaner Downtown KCMO will be. Let's keep Downtown beautiful!

You know, for a DMV this place really isn't so bad. Hear me out!…read more We recently purchased a new vehicle and needed to get our tags transferred. Like most people I'd been avoiding it and putting it off as long as possible. When the time came I visited their website and realized that I could have just made an appointment, but there wasn't anything available now before our temporary tags expired so I just set an alarm to go first thing the next day. When I woke up I realized I had so much more to do that day than I thought and checked their website again for appointments, much to my luck they had a spot for that afternoon open up and I booked it! I arrived right on time later that day, checked in via my phone, and was seen within 10 minutes. The appointment took probably five minutes in total and I was out the door. The big learning here was that it pays to make an appointment and I LOVE that you can do that these days. Another pro tip: bring cash or a checkbook with you as they do charge a processing fee on all credit cards.

I found out yesterday that we have to "get in line" online first! I definitely think this may cut down on physical wait time in the office and allows us to pull up and get help faster. Was it inconvenient? Yes! Was it more efficient? Absolutely! I got here at 10:15, checked in at the podium and my number was called at 10:20. Now the actual process took around 30 minutes, but that's because I decided to be a big girl and get a personalized plate! Shoutout to Kansas for coming up with some cool looking plates, I love the "to the stars" quote and the sunset theme. I've been to 33 states and we definitely have the best sunset so it's spot on representation. Terra was so helpful and thoroughly explained the plate fees because I was set one the new distinctive black plates that are available to the citizens and although it's for a great cause I'm not trying to pay an extra $50 fee every year just to have it. So after talking through it I chose the purple sunset plate and the personalization was included in the one time fee to upgrade.
