Fabulous experience from Dan who sold me an LG Washer/Dryer combo in a no nonsense, straight forward transaction while undercutting the "box" store prices. No hidden "add-on" charges, just a reasonable delivery/install charge and a kit for stacking the machines. That's it. And, delivery and installation? Simply the best. That's Metropolitan Appliance. I entered Metropolitan Appliance for the first time several months back. I was intimidated, I'll admit, because this was my first experience shopping for a high-end appliance. I was worried I'd look outclassed, amateurish, uninformed, or whatnot. Well, truth be told, I might have! But if I did, nobody let me know. They treated me perfectly! Jeremy spent time asking what I was looking for, showed me several options, and we talked more as I considered my choices. Finally, unrushed, I made my decision. Great experience!! But what would make me choose these guys over anyone else came later. A morning or two later I questioned my purchase. I loved what I got, but did I buy something "fancy enough"?? I emailed Jeremy my fears (my favorite communication tool is email - Jeremy was always happy to communicate however I preferred!!). His response was both prompt and amazing! Not only did he address and calm my fears, he did so in a way that showed how carefully he'd listened the few days earlier when I described what I was looking for. He remembered things I even forgot I'd said!! Important things! And when I suggested I buy a range $1000 more expensive than the one I had chosen, he didn't even consider it--explaining (specifically!) why the one I had chosen satisfied all my wishes better than the more expensive one I had just suggested. I was so impressed! I've rambled, so I'll spare details. But suffice to say that delivery and installation was ridiculously professional and well done. After an hour or so I was so impressed I left the guys alone in my home to run chores. And came home to a kitchen I'm still blown away by. There you go. Highly recommended without reservation. Aaron and his dad are awesome. A family-run appliance business that takes their customers seriously, but with a sense of humor. We have bought both an oven and a microwave here. Metropolitan even hauled away our old oven after installing it for us too. That install. Wow. The lady who redesigned our kitchen in the 80's had "one too many hits with the snake" if you know what I mean. But the installer got it in, after some careful sawing and finagling on his part. They match prices without issue and because our service was so good the first time, we recently went back to them to replace our equally-old microwave with a shiny, new modern one. (Express buttons!! I am living the life!) We had the old white GE special from 1983. I'm thinking that if there's any truth to raditation from those old monsters, then I expect to see another arm growing here soon. Again, they took care of the old microwave for me; I just went back and dropped it off. We will end up coming back for a fridge at some point too. There's a beautiful stainless steel one that must be 12 feet across! I wouldn't mind losing half of my cupboard space to take it home! As my old refrigerator slowly gave up the ghost, I looked around at locally owned appliance stores and came upon Metropolitan. They had a great selection of energy-efficient options at prices that were comparable to the chain stores, and super helpful staff to help answer questions. The delivery guys just dropped off the new fridge and hauled off the old one...they were super professional and right on time (!!!), and made sure the fridge was nice and stable in its new spot. I'm gently dinging them one star because the fridge was originally supposed to be here last week but they ordered the wrong one. That said, I will definitely go back to them in the future for other major appliances. By the way, their showroom has some pretty nice looking set-ups for planning kitchen remodels, and they also have a floor model of the unfortunately named Smeg refrigerator, which is a gorgeous appliance--retro and shiny orange, like a car in a ZZ Top video (except it's a fridge). If I were the man-cave type, which I am absolutely not, I would probably have to get one. read more

I'm in the market for a new refrigerator. My first stop was Metropolitan Appliance, largely due to its excellent Yelp review. First, let me say that this is a review based on my browsing and planning experience. I haven't yet made a purchase from any store, though for several reasons, I won't be buying from this store. When I walked in the store, I was surprised to see that it was relatively empty. I actually had to walk pretty far into the store before I could even find someone who was working there. He was sitting down at his desk, in a way that didn't feel very approachable. The person I talked to seemed to assume that I knew almost nothing about fridges. Our opening conversation went something like this; Me: "I'm looking for a fridge that's really reliable and well-engineered." Him: "Well, all of them are pretty reliable. What color do you want?" I don't know if that's because of my gender, or my age, or if he's just that way with everyone. But it felt condescending. Now, when it comes to kitchens, I'm not exactly a traditionalist. Instead of a kitchen counter, we're getting a stainless-steel restaurant work table: it's super practical, and I love how it looks. (We're pairing it with shiny purple cabinets and a teal linoleum floor.) So naturally, I have a lot of hyper-specific questions about how fridges work. I figured that an appliance salesman would be the perfect person to answer my questions. So you can imagine my disappointment when the answer to most of my questions was, "That's just the way things are." To be clear, the salesman was perfectly polite, professional, and respectful. I guess I was just hoping that he would be a bit more excited about the products he's selling. Having said that, I wasn't particularly impressed with the selection either. On one extreme, they had a bunch of mediocre American brands (Amana, GE, Whirlpool, etc.), plus Samsung and LG. And then they had Sub-Zero built-ins for 10x the cost. Nothing in between. Ultimately, I just didn't feel like this store was anything particularly special. I think I'll be looking elsewhere for my purchase. read more

Excellent service! I live on a houseboat and came home one evening to find my 2-year old washer rusted. I live alone and had no idea how I was going to replace the washer / dryer combo. I started looking online and most big box stores only deliver vs. install. A friend recommended Metropolitan Appliance and they were FANTASTIC. Kevin was phenomenal throughout the process. Their delivery team removed my old washer dryer from the second story of my boat without a single scratch on the wall. What's more - it took 5 men, 5 hours to dissemble the old set and resemble the new one due to the space constraints. We were referred to MA by our contractor. We went in to see washer/dryers. The sales staff was very informative and not pushy. We left saying: " we'll think about it. " We researched their brands and models online. A big box store was $100 cheaper. We discussed it and thought if we run into problems we'd rather be dealing with MA. WE'RE SO GLAD WE DID!! Our dryer stopped working within a week of delivery. MA had GE tech come out the next day. The GE tech was useless. MA replaced the dryer in 2 days with a new one. Then the new one broke down that same night!! Again GE tech was completely useless. MA replaced the dryer again with a new one that was one model up, at no cost to us. This was all a week before Christmas. Now think to yourself what would've happened if we had gone with the big box store. Choose MA. professional staff Great delivery guys Excellent customer service. We worked with Jim at Metropolitan Appliance to buy all new appliances (fridge, range, downdraft, microwave, dishwasher and beverage center) for our newly remodeled kitchen. He and all of the staff were super helpful and responsive. We had to delay our install date from our original estimate, and Jim was extremely accommodating. The installation team (led by Jorge) was incredible. They were here for 8 hours and never stopped until everything was perfect; they arrived when they said they would, and they took great care with the floors, walls, etc. Even our construction team commented on how amazing they were (especially compared to those they've worked with from Albert Lea.) I was having a tough time finding a 24" fridge & 18" dishwasher, but found everything I needed here. At Albert Lee I was made to feel a bit bad that I wasn't looking for a 96" Wolf range or 50 cubic foot refrigerator. This is your source for green/eco-friendly refrigerators (Equinox, Summit, etc) & is well worth checking out. On a Saturday, I realized that the refrigerator stopped working. However, I was leaving town that following Monday and was having guests stay at my house. What to do? After spending a full day browsing online at the big box shops and stressing, I called Metropolitan Appliance, told them about my situation, and was informed they'd make it happen. And, boy did they ever! I ordered my fridge that day (at a competitive price to the aforementioned big box shops) and got it installed the next day. They took my requirements (depth, width, height, and preferred style) over the phone and showed me a few options once I arrived. The showroom is big enough to showcase a variety of options. The customer service was very good. They informed me of rebates I could take advantage of. There was no pressure to buy, but they were willing to work with me. Written on 4/11/2013: Metropolitan Appliance received my landlord's order for a refrigerator last Friday morning (4/5). They never called to confirm when they would send the refrigerator until Monday when they received a call from my landlord. Yes, we were told when Jeremy did call on Monday that the delivery would be Thursday afternoon and that we should call to confirm that the day would work. Keep in mind that we never put any limits on when we could receive it. We told them to deliver as soon as they could. Then yesterday, Wednesday (4/10), we received a call from Jeff who said it would be delivered between 6:30-7:30 PM. Fine. Just deliver it. He said that we should only return his call if that time would not work, so we didn't call. Okay. Now it is almost 11:00 PM on Thursday, and we have no refrigerator delivered and no calls to explain that it couldn't be delivered. I honestly believe that several of these reviews are bogus. There is no way that they consistently provide that kind of 5-star service to people and then treat us like this. Obviously, I am frustrated after having to eat out every night starting last Wednesday. I have ordered refrigerators for my own homes before this. We received those refrigerators the next day at the latest. This kind of service is ridiculous! Written on 4/13/2013: I did get a call from Jeremy on Friday morning after failing to receive the refrigerator on Thursday evening as was promised to us. I did leave a message that I was not happy. They didn't figure it out on their own that they had messed up. Jeremy promised that the refrigerator would be delivered that day. I told him that no one would be available that day until 6 PM. He told me to plan on receiving it at that time. As promised this second time, the refrigerator delivery team was waiting for me when I arrived home. Jorge and Dave were professional in removing the old refrigerator and setting up the new refrigerator. They were fast and very good at what they do. I highly commend them for their work. Because of their excellent work, I change my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. There are still some communication problems with the people at the store, but their delivery team is excellent. Finally, I am able to put food in a refrigerator and cook at home once again. read more

We ended up at Metropolitan Appliance after having the worst experience ever at Sears. In fact, we had bought a refrigerator and freezer at Sears, and ended up canceling the order because we were so angry. After that experience, Metropolitan Appliance was a breath of fresh air. We worked with Mark who was patient, knowledgeable and made the process fun. He showed us some options that we never saw at Sears and we ended up buying a counter depth refrigerator that served our needs even better - and cost about $700 less than the one at Sears which was on sale at "best price of the season;" whatever that means. We ended up not only buying a new refrigerator from Mark at Metropolitan, we also purchased a freezer, a small under counter refrigerator and a washer and dryer. On the washer they matched Best Buy's "lowest price" with no hassle. While there Mark introduced us to Jim, one of the owners. A truly nice guy!! It's nice to shop at a store that truly understands customer service and it's also nice to support a small local business - especially when it doesn't cost any more. If you are looking for a great selection of appliances at fair prices, you can save yourself the anguish of "big box" shopping, get the same deal, and feel like a valued customer, not a number. Our appliances will be delivered in about 3 weeks. I'll update this review once installation is complete. Appliances were delivered exactly as planned. Correct day, right on time. The delivery crew were awesome! And our sales person Mark followed up to make sure all was well. We love the appliances we bought and love the experience of buying from Metropolitan Appliance. This is a new experience. I have been taught by my father to buy washers/dryers off of Craigslist.Always used. Warranties are often unheard of. A DIY approach for sure. But when you're not in town and no one you know is available to help - who can you rely on? I weighed my options - Craigslist, but few could deliver. The dryer was a tight fit in a cubby. Home Depot or Lowe's. I had exact measurements, but the options for a compact electric dryer were sparse. Both only had (1) option that would work.They both deliver, install and haul away, but the lead time was 20 days longer than Metro Appliance. I tried various local dealers until I settled on Metropolitan appliance. I worked with Charlotte who worked hard to find the right dryer for me. She even called my tenant to ask further questions. Impressive initiative. New dryers cost A LOT. But again I was in a bind. Craigslist failed me. I didn't want to trust some stranger who said they have (8) months of warranty left on their dryer. It may not fit either. And I've already called out two different repairmen for this particular problem dryer. I needed a new one. I needed a full service with one POC. Charlotte and her team delivered quickly in (6) days. Saturday to accommodate my tenants' schedules. Problem - they couldn't install. I learned from my tenant. Ideally, I would've liked the repairman to tell me immediately instead. There was a fire hazard - too much lint. I needed to get my dryer vents cleaned (another new experience). Charlotte was ready with a recommendation but...they didn't service my zip code. She said they would definitely come back to install for free as promised. The dryer did fit which was the main concern. I found a guy on Yelp. He cleaned the lint and even opened the ceiling up to pull in the vent to attach it to the dryer which he installed. Perfect. I reviewed my invoice and noticed an additional $75 labor charge. Charlotte was more than happy to refund. Honesty. The problem I found here was that she should've caught it beforehand. I am impressed that they put in the warranty for you via CPS. This is my first experience buying new and using a local dealer. Metro Appliance did not disappoint! I highly recommend them. read more

I've been working exclusively with Aaron for quite a few years. Have probably bought around 15-20 appliances from him for our own home and a couple rental properties. The way I see it, once you find the best there is no need to look further! Aaron and his co-workers are polite, responsive, easy to work with and I've always been treated with total respect. In all the transactions with this company there hasn't been one glitch. The installers are proficient and courteous. If there is ever an issue with a product, Aaron immediately goes to work to rectify it. (For example having a replacement part sent directly from the manufacturer at no cost to me.) I highly recommend the company, and in particular, Aaron. He really cares! There are so many options as to where you can buy appliances. The whole process has been a hassle. I've been a customer for a few years. Bought several products. Had issues with 1st dryer after a couple months and was able to get a new set after talking to salesperson. I sold my townhome and left the new ones for the buyer. I purchased a new set a month ago, was over charged on the items and, the delivery charge. I called them the following day to let them know a competitor had better prices and free delivery, it took weeks to get a answer and small refund. Items finally delivered yesterday and the delivery men scratched the washer as well as the wall and molding. I pointed it out, they called the store and my option was to use the warranty, have someone come and patch the scratch or take $50 for the inconvenience. I had to call the store and was told I had to wait for the person who sold it to me to get back into the office. I then proceeded to see how the washer worked, well, it doesn't spin and the lid doesn't lock. So the clothes sit in water. I haven't had them for 24 hours and so irritating to have no help with service is unacceptable. Dreading calling them after this review to let them know about the lid. read more

I got a downdraft exhaust fan replaced under a home warranty program but the 3(!) companies they sent to install it were unable to get the job done as it was a complicated installation. The folks at Metropolitan said their guy could do it and Jorge came out to do the job. He encountered numerous complications with the location of gas line, exhaust ducts and electrical connections, but got it installed and working. Even though it took nearly 6 hours to work it all out, Jorge remained calm, cheerful and professional. I was impressed by his resourcefulness and persistence in finding solutions to all the problems encountered along the way. Despite the late hour he was meticulous in verifying every detail of the installation and cleaning up to leave no trace of his work. It took me three visits to Metropolitan Appliance get from "looking for an appliance" to "yes ready to purchase, putting down the deposit" but that was my doing, not theirs. If you want one visit, come with your research done: dimensions, energy, options, design. All the sales staff want customer satisfaction and are patient and thorough in minimizing the risk of user error (e.g. I was off by an inch estimating the height maximum for our next fridge on my second visit, quite relieved I held off on one shortlisted model). They're comfortable working with us who fret about purchases. The product knowledge is in-depth. They are not limited to selling solely what's in the showroom. The showroom stock is a representative spectrum of low-cost to ai-yi-yi-priced, with a normal distribution (bell curve) of availability: mid-price models abound. People with kidlets requiring little supervision can send their spawn to Krispy Kreme nearby while the grownups shop peacefully. This place is great but I wouldn't claim that it'd fascinate the under-18 set. read more

I used Metropolitan Appliance to fully outfit two kitchens, as well as a laundry room. Loved 'em. Pricing was generally reasonably competitive with Internet, and they took every step possible to make things easy: they held on delivering some appliances for months until we had the space, they insisted on fully replacing a dryer that arrived with some visible damage, and they were upfront and transparent about what expectations they could and couldn't deliver on. My only mistake was going with an internet retailer for a specialty fridge when the price was substantially lower. Eight months, countless hours of phone calls to the manufacturer and 3 defective fridges later, we were still SOL awaiting a fridge. I called up Metropolitan and they had us a (different) good fridge within 3 business days. Overall, great people, no hassles, strong service. I'll go with them in a heartbeat this summer when I'm doing a third kitchen. P.S. I just realized they double-billed me on the fridge. I checked in via the check in offer they had on Yelp and I got a Ginzu Knife (just kidding, although did get a carving knife as a reward for checking in)! Metropolitan Appliance will give you a great deal that can match or beat the sale prices for most big box stores. They will tell you up front if they expect delays; they will quote delivery dates only for items that they can get from a warehouse; and there is no hassle or haggle required. Their delivery guys are careful and take their time and really care for your home. I would 100% stop in if I needed appliances again. The story: In buying a new house, we asked the builder to let us handle our own appliances. A Consumer Reports subscription and hours of research later, we arrived at a set of appliances we wanted, and Sears had all of it at a great discount (sale plus extra off) except the range hood. We stopped in at Metropolitan Appliance and spoke briefly to Jim. He was an absolute pleasure to work with, quoted us a reasonable price (we compared to Amazon), and asked us what other appliances we had purchased. "Oh, you guys picked a great set! I'm sure you'll be happy with them. I wish I could have had a chance to quote you guys on it, though; I bet we could have come close on the price." He was earnest, and we were beyond satisfied with our experience, having expected used-car/insurance sales tactics. Turns out Sears never delivered, and after the third time they pushed our 'guaranteed delivery date' by a week, we cancelled that order and stopped in again at Metro. Jim wasn't in, but we told one of his employees what was going on. "Let me see what I can do for you," he said as he scurried off to the computer. He couldn't beat Sears (who probably would never deliver), but he did beat the prices we were looking at from other big box stores (Home Depot, Best Buy, and Lowes). He gave us an up front warning: the color for the W/D combo we wanted was out and did not have a backorder fulfillment date from the manufacturer, but he could get us the more expensive color this week for a bit more. (This was probably what was causing the repeating delay with Sears.) The price jump was still less than the national competitor's pricing, so we agreed. I forgot to write down our delivery date, so I called the day before I thought they were coming. The person who answered the phone was a little gruff--the only complain I could have possibly made in the whole process, but I understand from their point of view how annoying it must be to have customers call for confirmation. (Can you imagine if every customer called instead of waiting for their call?) The delivery guys were SPECTACULAR. They were very careful with moving the items and took their time with the installation. All the big box chains will tell you that their delivery guys cannot remove their boots, but Metro's folks did it on their own! They talked us through what to expect with our new appliances (including basic things I would assume people should know, like to throw out the first couple batches of ice and the first couple pitchers of water to flush the tubing/piping). I have rarely seen such excellent service from any company. Do yourself a favor and at least stop in at Metropolitan Appliance. I love supporting local businesses when it makes sense, but they beat the national competition handily without that bias. read more

I bought appliances 15 years ago here. When it was time to remodel my kitchen & laundry room last summer, I was really pleased to see that this family business really keeps it going. They have the next generation at the desk now, and I am happy to report that they have kept consistent in quality and customer service. I had the pleasure of working with AARON, and I would highly recommend him. I was ready to upgrade to what I call my "big girl stove" and I am loving it. I landed with an American Range, and while I am no Tom Douglas, I definitely have been cranking out some awesomeness in the kitchen. We also purchased a washer & dryer unit. Install was on time, professional, and they took great care in moving around on our new floors. Not only do I recommend these guys, I am sending my parents in for their home.
