There are tables for enjoying your beverage and working and the plant esthetic and background music is calming. I got an almond milk chai and enjoyed it. Stopped in after some thrifting and it was the perfect spot to relax. The service was fine, but too bubbly, but matter of fact. The space is airy and has several areas to sit, but it is a bit snug. There is an upstairs space as well and you can buy art around the shop. The plants all around make it feel cozy. Overall, a chill spot off of Broadway. I enjoyed a chai and it was light and the right amount. Would consider visiting again when I'm in the area. Since it's off of Broadway, parking is limited. read more

This cozy coffee shop at the southwest corner of Broadway and Ellsworth Ave in the Baker neighborhood has been here over 10 years. I have walked by here many times but had never visited them. I was served by Jae. I learned they are 1 of 4 locations in Denver. The other locations are in the Golden Triangle, Five Points, and LoHi. They offer the usual hot & cold coffee drinks + teas. They have a selection of pastries. They sell Herkimer coffee beans and can grind them for you. Their drip coffee today is from Bolivia. They have 2hr parking nearby (see promocode) or street parking with meters. Same rate of $2 for 2hrs. There is a seating area in front & back + upstairs. I had a large hot Latte with Maple Cardamom syrup & a Morning Bun. Nice flavor for the latte and lots of sugar on the pastry. They accept cards & cash. I asked if they round up or down due to the oncoming shortage of pennies. Jae said they have plenty of pennies for change since most people pay with cards. I came to this Metropolis Coffee because it was written up as a place that is good for getting work done. I was having trouble getting on the WiFi on my cell phone, and the barista said "well all of our devices are working", then I tried to get on WiFi on my laptop, and it said "not connected to the internet." When I went to inform the Barista, she got offended/ upset, asking why I was mad at her (I wasn't mad at her, just frustrated that I drove cross town specifically to work at this coffee shop, and it's possible that the guest Wifi isn't functioning and thus I can't work here.) She went and restarted the WiFi. However, the Metropolis Guest Wifi still isn't functional, and the barista is visibly irritated with me. I was able to get on a local Wifi from another business, so I'll work here this afternoon, but beware if you are coming to Metropolis to work... The coffee is solid thought. Great coffee shop for getting work done. There are lots of tables with nearby outlets on the main floor and also a secluded upstairs area! Fast, free WiFi. Free parking within a block. Now for the coffee, I love finding places that have homemade syrups and Metropolis has multiple options for homemade syrups. I tried their brown sugar cinnamon latte and loved it!!! We've always enjoyed the coffee at Metropolis, but the girl with dark hair and glasses should be a little more welcoming and friendly to regulars who are buying coffee and local artists' work. We feel a bit off put every time we interact with her. After taking a look at other reviews, this unfortunately seems like an experience shared by other customers. Right when you walk in you get a hippy/natural vibe inside & everyone is just chilling on their laptops doing their thang while enjoying some bomb coffee & music. Got the Cortado & vanilla Italian soda & was NOT disappointed at all! I love the plants and cute cozy interior! There's a sort of grungy vibe to this which reminds me of Seattle. Similar to dive bars in Seattle this place isn't the absolute cleanest but it did not bother me. Service was super chill. Been here twice and the drinks are consistently standard/good. Plenty of street parking in the nearby neighborhoods. When I'm in town I like to do work here since the wifi is quite good and it never gets too crowded. The large glass windows looking out into the main street, makes this place an excellent spot for people-watching. Lots of interesting people/places/things nearby. I am a tea person. Metropolis is a sweet, quick, charming corner coffee shop on South Broadway close to my house and on my drive to work. Bonus- the baristas are so kind, Emma always takes great care of us. They have a cute little loft with obscure books, my favorite is a Book of Lists from 1985 or something like that. I always enjoy the rotating local art they have hanging on the walls. The baristas make a great London Fog with loose leaf tea. Sometimes I will try their Seasonal Syrup instead of the vanilla syrup. I appreciate that they have hot empanadas from Maria Empanada (but I'm a hater of coffee shops selling frozen burritos for $6) and their bear claw doughnuts make a nice snack during a movie at the Mayan up the street. I love their mural on the side of little bean people. The rest of the block is so good for wandering too! read more

Hands down my favorite coffee shop to work at in Denver. You can really plug away here and get things done. There are a few key reasons: 1. Friendly cool staff but you in a good mood. 2. Soft music so you can still hold a conversation, work, or hear your own music in your headphones. 3. Great coffee. 4. Reasonably priced. 5. Keep the temperature right which can be huge if you're in a place for 3 or 4 hours. 6. Location is awesome and has many places you can grab a quick lunch. 7. I've been meaning to come in for a while and I'm glad I did! The space is homey feeling without all of the useless knick knacks that other coffee shops scatter to get that "worn in" look. I liked the use of old school chairs and the succulents adorning the windowsill were a nice touch. I got a small Tiger Spice Chai (they also have Oregon) and it was wonderfully made. The only reason they were bumped down a star was the barista wasn't the most friendly fella around and I thought their menu could have been a little more exhaustive. Love the coffee here. It reminds me of coffee shops I'd frequent in my 20s in LA. Very hip, but not so hip that I'm intimidated to enter. They host a writing workshop in the back, and that's cool. I stick to the simple things like a cortado or cappuccino. It's a common stop after we drop the dogs off at daycare nearby. When they've got the fancy slow-drip cold brew coffee contraption going, don't pass up a cup of that stuff. It's really good! read more

Okay ...so I have to say that I visit a lot of coffee shops in Colorado...I love an amazing latte...I'm pretty picky about the taste (as everyone should be) ..so I decide to visit metropolis ..I think it's pretty new..I don't party anymore so I don't live on Broadway and don't know when all these new shops have opened ...regardless the first time I went ...the people that worked there were not very friendly ...which bums me out ...I ordered an almond latte ....it was good I decide a few weeks later to go ahead and try again ...the people were different and way nicer ...I order a cafe latte ...it was really yummy ...the moral of this story which I say over and over ...be nice to your customers and you will get good tips and repeat service....duh I'll come back ...I do warn - it's pricey ! read more

Really dig this coffee shop! There are quite a few places to grab a cup of coffee within less than a mile of Metropolis (Mutiny, Bardo, Rosebud, Moxie, Sugar Bakeshop, Copper Door, White Whale Room, Europa). I've tried almost all of them and still choose Metropolis nine times out of ten. In addition to the coffee, I love the look of this place. From the cool sign out front to the cool wood/wallpaper situation inside, an aesthetically pleasing shop always gets me. I've actually never worked here, so I'm not sure how their wifi situation is. I've taken meetings, had a yummy breakfast of coffee + a popster, and taken coffees to go. I do see people working here, especially in the little balcony area that overlooks the shop. The baristas here aren't overly friendly and have occasionally forgotten some details of my order, but it's never been much of an issue. Parking can be tricky--I'd avoid Broadway on busy times like nights and weekends and look in the Baker neighborhood. read more
