This is my escape from work everyday around 1pm. Friendly baristas, sweet snacks if you really want some extra sugar. My recommendation: the mocha. Hands down. Easily the best chocolate and espresso combo my taste buds have ever had the pleasure of delectably sipping on. (For you fall people get the house made apple cider but ask for it cold. Trust me. You can thank me afterwards. Right amount of sweetness, spice and tang) The lobby is open with lots of window seats which allow lots of light and a good view. But the loft.... That's where the real Metropolis coffee goes immediately head. Snuck upstairs and promptly behind the latte bar, you will find wonderfully old and comfy couches, the occasional blog writer and of course the expected bookcase filled with musty old books. Cute little corner coffee shop. The baristas are friendly and funny. They have standard coffee prices and even make pretty designs on the coffee. I've posted pictures of our coffees. The only thing that prevents me from giving a better rating is that my hot coffee was luke-warm when handed to me and fully cold before I could even finish my medium coffee in the 15 minutes I was there. They did brew a good flavored coffee though! I will definitely be back the next time I'm on South Broadway to give it another go! read more

The epitome of a hipster coffee shop. From the aloof barista to the mismatched furniture, if you're looking for that hipster vibe, this is it. If you're looking for modern and chic, I'd recommend Metropolis' LoHi location. You can't even tell they're from the same chain. Like many stores on Broadway, this shop has its own character. What I love about this place is the amount of space available for studying, working, or just hanging out (I see the Life board game on top of a bookshelf). The first floor has open windows great for people watching. If you want to be more secluded, the upstairs has plenty of seats. The lighting might not be as great but who needs brightness when most people got their laptop screen glow. read more

Absolutely one of the best coffee places I've been to. My to go drink Mocha was jyst perfect. The right amount of sweet and flavor. I also has the cheese empanada which was a better version of hot pockets. I wish I had time to go back to the coffee place but I'll definitely return next time I'm visiting Denver. Pretty great little coffee shop on the corner of Broadway and Ellsworth. The bf and I came in while we waited for a table at a nearby restaurant and ordered a couple of regular, drip coffees. Their coffee was hot and fresh and there were a good amount of available seats for us to just sip and chill for a bit. Great bartop seats framing the windows, perfect for people watching. I can definitely see myself coming back in here in the middle of a stroll down Broadway. read more

Metropolis Coffee has been my primary go-to coffee shop for nearly 15 years, starting at Golden Triangle in 2005/6. In my opinion, their cortado and 8 ounce latte are best in town. Only a couple places come close. They're extremely consistent and never let me down, thanks to their staff and great beans from Herkimer. I give them a 10 out of 10 every time. By the way, I strongly prefer a bold espresso flavor. They nail it. Keep up the great work, folks. read more

I usually go to coffee houses for Chai lattes since coffee is too strong for my heart and i eventually grew a dislike to the taste. This time was no exception however this time there was a slight mix up and somehow I had a latte in my hand and not a Chai. For someone who doesn't like coffee, the latter was actually delicious . I still couldn't handle it though and they switched it out for my chai. That too was also amazing. The atmosphere is nice a cozy. They had an upstairs balcony area which will give you some more privacy if you wanted. The service was casual and they were professional when it came to the mixup. There wasn't an overpowering roasting smell and the decore was welcoming. read more

So, when I asked for a 16 ounce cappuccino the female barista asked me, "Do you mean a latte?" Clearing willing to play the I'm smarter than the customer game we went down that road. I didn't wander in to Metropolis because I wanted some coffee with my egg McMuffin. The conversation continues... I said no a cappuccino. Then she played dumb and said, "wait what do you want?" Being patiently frustrated I told her I want a 16 ounce cappuccino simply add more foam and steamed milk while keeping the mixture half-and-half which is common for a cappuccino. And heck throw in another shot. Intentionally baffled by my explanation, the look of I don't want to do it that way and I'm not interested in helping you shown brightly on her face as she proceeded to grab a smaller cup and make my drink the way she wanted too. For $4 and change. The barista's are usually cool at Metropolis in LoHi, but I guess things are little disparaging down on Broadway. Rarely do I take time to write reviews, but the owner should know that this particular employee should open up her own coffee shop so she can do things her own way and insult customers on her own dime. Plenty of good coffee around, not coming back to this Metropolis. read more

I go to Metropolis strictly for the coffee. It's an in and out kind of thing. The baristas are definitely not the friendliest crew, but it's an edgier area so they are kind of like that at any of the local coffee shops to be honest. They sell empanadas from Maria Empanada located just up the street which are a delicious, quick breakfast. They also have some pastries but they never look all that appealing to me so I've never tried them. It's a cool little coffee shop on the corner. I've found there is always parking available and the inside of it is bright and sunny near the big windows. Definitely a good people watching spot! Personally, I think it's the best coffee on that strip of Broadway. Give it a shot! read more

My first time at Metropolis was delightful. I brought two out-of-town friends and we all enjoyed our drinks: cappuccino, dirty chai and almond milk latte. The service was polite and efficient. The prices were reasonable. And unlike some other reviewers, I really appreciate the small sizes. I can never drink more than 8 oz and I hate having to order (and pay for) a larger size at other shops then not drink it all. I also appreciate the rich brown color of the foam and care taken to make beautiful designs in it. The space was bright and clean, so it seems like an ideal place to hang out, catch up with friends or just get some work done. read more

With subtle changes in the overall appearance of the place, one would expect just as little change in the service and quality of coffee after its transition of one completely roaster company to another. The spot is still prime time - right on the corner on the busy S. Broadway, but that's one of thee good things that remained. The large size coffee is teeny (I'd be surprised what the small size looks like) and the area that once hosted its the guests to all the necessary coffee condiments has been moved to a weird, somewhat awkward window sill. Though different roasters all together, the coffee is still warm and Rick, and does it's job, while the succulent plants and fun wall paper still make the space super inviting. I'll be back - just with more awareness of prices and sizes. read more

As far as Denver coffee goes, Metropolis is a-ok. I don't know what it is about this particular location. I wasn't a big fan of Happy Coffee because of the pretentiousness and now that Metropolis has taken over the space, it's almost the opposite. There's a distinct air of "no shits given". When I went in last weekend, the barista rushed me in and out. No conversation. The space looks the same as when it was Happy, just a little less... happy. I'd like to see the barista's be a little more welcoming like they are up the street at Corvus. The coffee itself was good. The space could definitely use some more personality. read more

I love coming here for coffee when I am on Broadway or in the area because the coffee (I think) is so good! I like to get an almond milk latte which is about $5 (a littler pricier than some other places). The drink is delicious though. Just the right combo of espresso flavor and sweetness from the milk. The shop itself is cute. There's a good amount of windows to people watch from inside, lots of tables and chairs to sit at. Wifi. Low music. Kind of dark. But it's not so big that there is a ton of space downstairs. It feels cozy but cold at the same time. The napkins/condiments bar is kind of in a weird spot away from the counter where they leave your drink. Each time I forget and awkwardly look around wondering where it is. One thing I really dislike about this place is that each time I've been here the baristas seem very unhappy and unpleasant. Almost like I am bothering them by ordering a coffee. I've never been to Metropolis before, and came today to meet a client for a quick cup of coffee. I ordered the hibiscus mint tea, which was very tasty. The drawback is that it's pretty expensive, $3/glass. It makes me realize that there's probably a good reason I don't frequent coffee shops too often; it's an expensive habit! If you are a fan of coffee shops, and the type that you don't see on every street corner, you'll like Metropolis. They have friendly baristas, good music, and a good atmosphere that is conducive to either studying or talking to your friends. read more

Ugh, I'm so bummed this isn't Happy coffee anymore. I saw the sign had changed and didn't think much of it, but everything's different. You expect a certain hipster ethic when you walk in, and that's still there, as well as the big prices. I noticed they now have a large size option (Happy didn't) and I was kind of stoked on that, because addiction to caffeine. But then: -The shelves were kind of empty. -There was dust on the few products they had. -It wasn't immediately clear what kind of coffee they were brewing (the type of thing that's usually boldly displayed if it's expensive and delicious). -The cold brew coffee dispenser was low and it was 9am... bad sign. -The cups and stir sticks and other products were low... again, I was there in the morning and that should be constantly restocked. -They feature bottles of that gross Tropicana juice that you don't even have to refrigerate. With a joint like this in a location like that, I'd expect some super hippy overpriced cold pressed shit with ginger and blueberries and magical powers pressed with the hooves of unicorns, and you better believe I'd buy it, too. So, all of the little things that you notice when you have expectations of a place. Dude who took my order was nice, I guess, and I'm glad they still carry the great pastries, though I'm sure that's on borrowed time, too. But the coffee... just... no. I got a large soy latte and it was just a whole lotta soy with a vague coffee flavor. Not enough espresso... SO! If you must go here, don't bother with the large. They're just trying to sap more money out of you. Le sigh. Happy was a gem on South Broadway with great coffee, and that alone could carry them. But it was all the little things that kept me returning and recommending to friends, and Metropolis doesn't have the good coffee or the little things. read more

Got a latte there today after lunch-- they make a good one and staff was great. It was my first time there and will be back.

The ambience of this shop is a unique one. I always enjoy the music when I am able to swing by and grab a chai or an Americano. Most of the baristas are friendly and make the drinks up to standard. There is always a great selection of seating and it seems like a cozy place to study (except for the music is a tad bit loud if you're trying to concentrate). Whenever they have empanadas I am sure to get one, they are delicious!!! My mother loves the gluten free pumpkin bread they offer and she's absolutely hooked on the chai. Definitely will check-in next time! read more

Came here twice on my last visit to Denver and found it a suitable place to get some work done. There is ample bar seating along the windows, with outlets everywhere. The waitstaff were a little despondent, but I suppose you'll have that. The restroom was a big bonus, being oversized and plenty roomy to sit one's gigantic bag without placing it in anything unsavory. Opens early, free wifi, all that noise. Oh, they were playing some of the worst music in existence though. It was very annoying, to the point I put in headphones, when I'm not really one of those guys. I've been coming to this spot for years, back when it was Happy Coffee. I was a little worried when Metropolis took the spot over but those worries were quickly squashed and everything seemed to improve for the better. All the baristas are friendly, knowledgeable and they all make a mean cappuccino! There's a good selection of treats from Spruce Confections, Maria Empanada's and Sugar Bake Shop on hand as well. Don't let those Yelp haters fool you (they've been getting too many latte enimas at Starbucks) -- Metropolis @ 1 S Broadway has the best coffee/atmosphere in the Baker hood. read more
