Excellent service ! Extremely busy but at the same time extremely efficient. Manager working today was Ken and spoke with him and gave 1 on 1 attention and his kitchen staff was extremely sufficent . Apparently they were short 1 person on kitchen staff but my visit ran extremely smooth. Wait staff was excellent but when it came to kitchen staff, by far the smothest work I've seen from a restaurant. Egg cook took over multiple positions and crushed everything I saw him clear on the cook screen . Cook Mike. Excellent job. 10 out of ten recommend ! read more

I met a friend for brunch/lunch at this Metro's--she loves to eat here--and we had a very nice time! The food is delicious with ample serving sizes. And, let me tell you how nice the staff is! Ms. Lindsey was our waitress and she was very helpful in finding foods for me that did not have onion-stuff in it! (Allergy) When what I ordered couldn't have the sides with it, her General Manager, Ken, showed up with a large serving of green beans--cooked without the onion seasoning!!! How nice is that???!!!! I really appreciated that TLC! It made the whole lunch even nicer! The atmosphere is bustling, but they obviously take the time to "do things right"! It was already one of my friend's favorite places to eat and now it's one of mine, too!! read more

I've been to Metro Diner before. It was near downtown but it's been several years. I decided to stop by for breakfast today as this location is near me. So that being said, let's dive in.. Food-6/10. I remember when Metro Diner was always doing unique dishes. The current menu feels standard diner and for the taste of the food, I'd rather pay the cheaper prices at other chain breakfast joints. I got the creme brûlée coffee which wasn't bad, but their cups are small and they don't fill them fully. That combined with the fact that when hey refill your cup it's with regular coffee is a bit disappointing. Though what truly disappointed was the fried chicken benedict. While the chicken was good, the poached egg was very under done and barely holding together and the yolk was quite cold. The hollandaise felt watery and lacked flavor. Meanwhile the home fries were a bit soggy instead of crisp. Service-9/10. My drink order was taken immediately as they seated me and brought quickly as well so I hadn't had a chance to look at the menu at all by the time she brought my coffee. I asked for a minute to get a look but then she didn't come back for quite a while. After placing my order she was gone for quite a while and I was longing for a coffee refill. I hadn't seen her in so long. I started to wonder if maybe she had gone home and someone else was going to be covering my area but hadn't made their way to me yet. Eventually, someone else brought my food out and they finally asked if I would like a refill on my coffee. Then a bit later she showed up to drop the check off. What was frustrating about this was that the restaurant was probably only half full. And despite that I struggled to be able to get a coffee refill. Atmosphere-4/10. The space feels like they just cram as many tables in as possible to get as many butts in the seat as possible. They take you into a middle table that you have to navigate through other seated people to get to and the spaces to navigate through are far too narrow. The noise levels inside are aggravatingly high. The music they're playing over their speakers is so loud that everybody is yelling to talk to the person across the table from them and be heard. And it just ends up everybody being louder and louder to be heard over the music. By the time I left, I had a throbbing headache. As far as the exterior, parking is a bit dreadful. Expect to have to park behind the building and walk to the front to enter. All in all, I can certainly say this was not the cozy breakfast experience. I had hoped it would be. It feels like at least this location has become overly commercial. read more

Just an update on my prior review. The manager of this Metro Diner requested my address right after my review was published and, today, we received a written apology along with three 13.00 coupons to dine at his place with a request we ask for him when we dine there. He also mentioned my experience with the staff and his manager addressing the issue I brought forth from our last meal there. I much appreciate his prompt response, his having addressed the staff, and his generous gift of the coupons. It's rare for a manager to act in a proactive and non defensive way to criticism. It suggests a true and strong commitment to his staff, his vision, and his customers. Thank you read more

I thought about having brunch at Metro Diner and to my surprise they had Fish Fry Friday. Best of all, it is served all day!! Chunky, light and crispy fish served with well seasoned fries and coleslaw just delicious! Service was great, a bit noisy, but expected at peak hours. Gotta love Metro Diner. read more

Metro Diner is always great and this visit on Mother's Day was no exception. While mobbed more than usual, we were able to be seated within 15 minutes since we joined the waiting list online. My wife had the Bacon Avocado Scramble Bowl that had crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, Avocado slices, black beans, diced green and jalapeño peppers , onions, and tomatoes in a bowl, covered in a nice hollandaise sauce. As with almost everything at the Metro Diner, it was a large (huge?) portion that my wife was able to take home half. I had the Bissell breakfast which contained scrambled eggs, turkey sausages. regular sausage or bacon, grits vs. home fries, sourdough toast AND two of their wonderful pancakes. It was truly a great and filling breakfast and coupled with the usual excellent friendly, efficient service makes this a keeper for breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

Absolutely awesome experience! Jasmine was friendly and professional. My mom likes to drink lukewarm water and most wait staff tell us that all they have is cold water. Jasmine said that she could use the cold water that the restaurant uses and add hot water that is used for tea. This was the first wait staff member that figured out a solution to my mom's request. It's a small detail, but everything at the table appreciated her solution. My mom had an omelette, I had a burger and my husband had a Ruben. All of it was great! Did I mention that they have the best onion rings in town? read more

I haven't been in a while, but their eggs Benedict with avocado is terrific. I'm looking forward to going again my Mom adored their humongous stuffed French toast, definitely left overs to go. We went to the one on Kingsley. I remember when there was only 1 in Jax and everyone after Church was lined up for brunch. Majors, business men and women, you name it, all were welcome read more

I have to start out by saying I was most impressed with Ashton, who greeted me when I walked in. His sense of humor, genuine smile, and concerned for customer service was outstanding! He's off to a great start. Our server, Victoria was outstanding! Compassionate, friendly, professional she truly was an excellent role model for others The eggs were cooked to perfection so I really like that but the biscuit was overcooked in my opinion. It was very dry in the middle because it was too overcooked. Thank you for Victoria Ashley. They're both outstanding. read more

Everything is always so good... the service is usually good, Sarah C. Needs to be more attentive to the customer. She asks and when one person says anything she does for that person. Others sitting at the table go to speak and she walks off making her do several trips. She then comes back to the table and says "what this time??" really!? Had you paid attention to everyone at the table you would not have to come back and forth. She is a decent waitress just needs to be more respectful to more than just one person. read more

We have breakfast at metro every Saturday and so I can only review breakfast. We are always warmly greeted and quickly seated with menus. Breakfast is always hot and cooked to order. I can't eat wheat and they are amazing in substituting avocados for the English muffin for my favorite eggs Benedict. My husband gets a variety of dishes and he cleans he's plate each time! read more

These Chicken and waffles are my favorite go-to order whenever I visit Metro Diner with family. I ordered dark meat chicken this time. It's a crunch and flavor on the chicken. You can mix their syrup with some hot sauce to create a great addition to dip your waffles and chicken. Service here was great for such a busy lunch time for our big family. read more

When we are in town, we always stop at the Metro Dinner! Badass place! Great food, fast and friendly service. Even if it's packed and they have a waiting list, sign up and wait! It's worth it! Last time there, wait list was 20 minutes and they had our party of 5 in and sat in 15 minutes! read more

My sister and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast with great service in a quaint diner setting. It was Thanksgiving Day and we very much appreciated them being open until 2:30 so we could grab a meal and catch up before the crazy day of cooking at our homes began. The French toast was delightfully fluffy, our eggs were cooked exactly as ordered, the sausage had just the right amount of spice, home fries and other sides rounded out our home style breakfast. The coffee and iced tea were fresh. We will be back. read more

Reminiscent of food my grandma cooked: fresh, simple, loaded with seasoning, & fried (or buttered or sautéed in butter)! This location is always busy, so be prepared to wait. I do say, though, it's worth the wait! It has a bustling feel. If you are looking for quiet & quaint, not the place. The waiters & waitresses are eager to please, mannerly, & very knowledgeable about the menu! The breakfast here is my fave! All dishes are winners! *I love that they always rotate in flavored coffees (usually coordinates with the seasons)! read more

Whenever WE need a really good meal in a short time frame we usually go to Metro Diner on Kingsley Ave. Our food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. Our seating was great and it was easy to hold a conversation where we were. Our server (Alexis S) refilled our drinks without us having to ask. This happened to be a Friday and my wife and I like getting the FISH FRY FRIDAY meal. Over the years I have written about Metro Diner and all I can say is "Keep Up the Good Work Everyone" and we will keep coming back for sure. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant when we were in Florida on vacation. I had learned about it many years ago when they were featured on Food Network and we had tried it before, but this is my first time leaving a review. My husband is a chicken and waffles snob. He has tried it several different restaurants and has never liked it as much as he loves it at the metro diner. I have had the challah French toast before, but on this visit, I had the croissant French toast, and it was very good. It was light and fluffy and very flavorful. I did not even need to put syrup on it! From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, the staff was incredibly attentive and pleasant. When we first arrived, the host kept checking on us as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Once we were seated, our waitress, Jasmine, was incredibly attentive. She was friendly and personable and very knowledgeable. No one at the table ever had to ask first thing before she offered it. My coffee was always topped off, and we have plenty of napkins and everything we might need. If you are in the area and want to try a restaurant that offers a multitude of delicious breakfast options, you definitely need to check this place out! read more

Metro Diner seems to be pretty consistent across their stores, and good - the one on Kingsley was no exception. They're usually pretty busy (hence the "noisy diner" vibe), but service has been consistently quick. Moderately large menu, but nothing silly. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered, and portions are large enough that I usually take some home. Companion diner commented that the hash browns had a slight chemical taste, and preferred Grumpy's hash browns. I agree, but I think they were more bothered by it than I was. read more

I can not remember the last time I was here for anything except breakfast. It was an odd sensation being seated immediately. I decided to switch from the chicken and waffles (easily the best around) and try something new. Settled on the chicken pot pie. It was creamy and full of meat. I personally would have liked it a bit more seasoned, but I think the ghost pepper is good on eggs so I understand I am an outlier. My wife had the turkey dinner and was extremely pleased. Couple that with a waitress who was pleasant and very personable and this was a great choice for dinner. read more

DELICIOUS!! We had to wait about 30 minutes to get in on a Sunday morning which I would say is pretty average for a good breakfast place on the weekend. It was absolutely worth the wait. We were given a table outside, which I normally would not be thrilled about in August in Florida. However, they had enclosures and fans that kept the area feeling pretty decent so it was actually pleasant sitting outside. All of the staff was friendly, and while I wouldn't say we got our food quickly, it arrived as to be expected with the restaurant that crowded. Everyone in my party LOVED their meal. Collectively, we had a chicken biscuit, club sandwich, breakfast burger, and biscuits and gravy. In addition, there were sides of hash browns and grits. We didn't leave a speck of food behind. Everything was delicious! read more

Stopped in to this Metro for lunch on our way to Jacksonville. It was nearly full but we were seated in just a few minutes. The place had a lot of colorful art on the walls and Christmas decorations were plentiful. The place was buzzing with waiters, cooks, bussers all over. I had a single BLT with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, wife had the meatloaf with home fries and green beans. The bacon in the BLT was thick center cut and a little chewy and the tomato slices were small. The mashed potatoes were a little lumpy which was fine by me but the gravy was a little too strong. My wife said the meatloaf was good and good size portion for a lunch entree. read more

Came for a Breakfast lunch with my grandson and in true Metro Diner fashion it was delicious and it always is no matter which location you visit. My sister recently moved to Florida and found that this diner was rated the best in Florida so naturally during a girls weekend we had to try it out. Get the cinnamon pancakes. Trust! They are so yummy. This place has great diner food and even some good dinner and lunch options.

I have to say that Metro Diner has never disappointed me on my many visits there. I used to try all kinds of stuff as they truly have it all! Depending on whether you are craving sweet or savory, everything I've tried is delicious! Definitely have to say that the steak scramble bowl is my go-to for satisfying my savory cravings. The service is always great. I would say that depending on what day of the week you are going, you may want to put in a call ahead reservation or be prepared to wait ... the ambiance is casual and family friendly. There is an outdoor seating area as well but not sure that space (or restaurant) allows for pets. Just throwing that out there. We were really disappointed in the meals, dirty coffee mug. Ask waiter (our waitress was ?) for a fresh cup of coffee in a clean cup. Multiple tables needed to be cleaned and under tables too. Wall in our booth had food on the wainscoting (looked dried on) and floors were in need of cleaning. Spoke with Manager who made excuse after excuse... no solution... we shared with him that we won't be back. Service and cleanliness has continued to deteriorate and after today they don't get another opportunity for our business. They did take the charge for the coffee off our bill...it's a treat to go out for a meal and other businesses will get our business in the future. read more
