Had a nice breakfast, french toast, grits, both were really good, coffee is great. Great server, very attentive but not overly so. Only issue: I wish they offered smaller portions, it was way too much food for me and my friend. read more

Terrific little spot with a mix of traditional breakfast food plus excellent southern and TexMex options. This is the epitome of diner food done well with generous portions. We had a 5 person party and waited ~10 min for a table. Not bad at all. We were seated outdoors facing the river, which was lovely. Service was quick and attentive without being overbearing. Everyone in our party loved their food. My husband had outstanding biscuits and gravy. He is picky about biscuits, and these were done right. He was delighted! I had the Southwest Bowl, which was so fresh and absolutely delicious. I would absolutely get it again. If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping here for a some brunch! read more

My brother had suggested this place and so we tried it . It's kind of a local place, not fancy at all . The waitress was very attentive and we were able to pull up a coupon on line for buy one meal get second one half price . We ordered the steak sub and it was delicious and we finished it off with the key lime pie. Not the cheapest place to eat lunch for 50.00 read more

We recently moved to Fruit Cove and hungry one afternoon while unpacking boxes, we just wanted something home style without all the frills and price. Metro Diner has since become a regular goto place for fast and efficient service and food. We don't know the full menu yet. Over the past visits we have tried the teriyaki salmon, meatloaf, ribs, fish and chips and chicken pot pie. All of these were superb. Also we usually have two eggs, over easy for me and well fried for her with an entree or sometimes a bowl of oatmeal with various fixing. A full line of pancakes and waffles as well and really, my challenge is to insist on holding back the usual pile of pancakes as I am to old to carry all of it away! If you are retired military, be sure to flash your id for a discount - yeah, it is that kind of place. Family and community values are clear from the decor and ambiance. Finally, the price. Last night a great pork chop, which has become my usual choice with two eggs and coffee and two eggs, grits, and toast for her and under 40 bucks including tip. read more

I had chosen to pay a consistent amount. I changed to Metro every morning for breakfast. Unfortunately, the mood changed as soon as I was a regular. No smiles anymore. Suspicious looks. Acted like I was just another thing to do. At $15 a plate, I expected a smile, a look of appreciation for a good tip, and a thank you for coming in. In my opinion, the other wait staff are resentful of kindness and appreciation. Tips are payed accordingly. read more

This is my fourth time eating here, with visits years apart. Friend from SC came to visit and we had an earlier breakfast so that they could start home mid-morning. I arrived first and was warmly welcomed by the Hostess and asked if I wanted to wait inside for my friends. I did! I then received hot water for tea and a large OJ to get started. My friends arrived and we ordered from the wide variety of breakfast entries and sides. I got my favorite "San Francisco Eggs Benedict," one friend got an Avocado Toast Breakfast Sandwich, and the other got a Belgian Waffle. Everything was tasty and a very nice-sized serving. Our waitperson, Barbie, was friendly, attentive and efficient. She also brought a box out with ingredients of the Hollandaise Sauce so I could ascertain for myself that there was nothing onion in it (allergy). That was so nice!! It was very busy but the hostess kept seating people so she had a good system. Highly recommend! read more

Had I taken a minute to read the Reviews, I would have chosen a different Restaurant. Fish & Chips: fish was grey & fishy tasting , certainly not the Cod they claim. Cheese grits were still hard, the coleslaw was too hard. A very disappointing experience. Dinner ended up in the trash. read more

This is a tiny diner from outside, but inside has quite a bit of room. It is in with Hurricanes and Fresh Market just before or after the bridge (depending on which way you are traveling) Most of the time when we walk in we are told to sit where ever we want. Once on a weekend they made us sit in the back corner and it was freezing, I will request another seat should they sit us there again. I usually order the same thing : Western omelet, sub American for the cheddar and no salsa. They have fresh fruit you can get instead of potatoes which is good. I had their avocado toast once too and it was delicious. My husband changes his food up and his has always been good. They have lunch and dinner too, but we have only been for breakfast. Their dinners are typical diner food. Meatloaf, turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, fried fish etc. read more

Really good food, great prices, and decent service. We have been disappointed by many restaurants in the area, but not Metro Diner. My chicken philly cheesesteak looked super bland when it was brought out, but it was surprisingly far from bland. I highly recommend it as well as breakfast for dinner. My daughter had a fruity waffle and she was raving about it, too. We brought dessert home and the keylime pie, although super tart and delicious, was a little mealy. Especially around the edge. All in all it was a great experience. read more

I've eaten at Metro Diner before but not this location. The service was exceptional, I don't know the waitresses's name but she was super fast and friendly. We tried the fish & chips and alls a breakfast platter and avocado toast. It was all surprisingly good. I've always liked Metro, but I am always surprised when I come back. Always quality and consistent. We sat outside and it was nice. Traffic was a bit loud but nonetheless it was enjoyable. read more

You can't beat Metro at any of their Jax locations when it comes to traditional, quick diner menu options. The wait is rarely long, even if the line grows quickly. Staff is friendly and quick. Metro Diner - Croissant French Toast - Diners Near Me - Jacksonville, Florida

Metro Diner has always been a popular spot, first when they were in San Marco and now, when they have multiple locations. There is always a crowd, so expect a wait. The line does move fast, unless you have a really large party. This location is nice, at the foot of the Julington Creek Bridge. Parking is an issue, so beware, the parking lot is small. The food: Croissant French Toast - utterly delightful, kind of like a crispy but light pancake. I could not eat all three pieces. Omelette - multiple choices, we went with a loaded one and I forgot the name. It was good though. I need to come back by to try more things My only issue is service, it is pleasant but rushed and the vibe of the place is rushed. If you are prone to anxiety, you may want to consider the vibe. Budget - budget minded folks can go straight for the biscuits and gravy and be satisfied. Splurge - get an smelter and a side of pancakes and you will have meals for days, since portions are big. But it will let you try different entree items. read more

Metro Diner's slogan should be "Home of the famous, delicious, yummy, tasty Chicken and Waffles". Long slogan I know. While I have tried other restaurants version of Chicken and Waffles, nothing comes close to the taste of Metro Diner's. Simply, consistently delicious. And while I have tried other items on their menu, I just find myself going back to the Chicken and Waffles every time I come here. I think it's because of the comfort taste of that chicken. And C'mon now, who can ever turn down some waffles? Not this guy. This location in particular is where I frequent the most. It's close by for me, and the restaurant itself is situated near Julington Creek. The staff here are amazing. I always have a pleasant experience dining here. read more

I haven't been to Metro in FOREVER! And of course, it still doesn't disappoint. I got the all-time favorite, Chicken and Waffles, it was still just as good as I remembered it. The chicken was deliciously crisp, if not a little salty, but nothing like a little sweet syrup and hot sauce to fix it up. I also got a mimosa, which I did not know they served and it was greatly enjoyed. Baby got pancakes and sausage links, and the hubs got a steak and egg bowl. read more

Wonderful breakfast with the basics: 3 eggs soft scramble, sausage patties, hash browns topped with onions and cheese, freshly made biscuit, and a perfect cup of coffee. Ok it's our third time in Less than a month, the owner stated the new flavor of pancake was maple bacon so we had to stop back by.. The sweet savory and bit of crunch to the pancake ,made them in a difficult tie for last months carrot cake one. I went here for a quick lunch break and service was good. I can't speak on dining experience at this time, maybe another time. It's hard to find a place with chicken and waffles that you can brag about. I would say Metro is on the list. The chicken and waffles was on point; chicken was well seasoned and juicy. The waffles were moist and fluffy, well balanced. read more

Always great food when we come here. It's a must whenever we visit Jacksonville. Delicious chicken and waffles.

I haven't been to Metro Dinner in a long time and I have been craving their chicken and waffles. Due to the Labor Day rush, I thought I'd get take out from the Mandarin/Julington creek location. Kayla got my order over the phone and she was very polite and attentive. She was clearly very busy but still smiled when I arrived and she offered me some tea as I was waiting. The raspberry iced tea was as great as I remembered. It took about 20-25 minutes to get my food but it was on the morning rush on a holiday so it is understandable. Everything was great. We got the chicken and waffles, the bacon avocado scramble bowl (hollandaise on the side), and the bissel breakfast. My only concern was the cheese grits which were not creamy at all- they were more like a thick paste. Other than that we had a very good experience, especially considering that it was Labor Day and around 10-11 am on the morning rush. read more

We are regulars at this metro and can confirm consistently perfect food, service, and great atmosphere. Wait times are reasonable and staff have always been pleasant. We live close by and often get it to-go but have also dined on the patio on multiple occasions. They keep the patio comfortable with screens, shades, and fans even on the hottest summer day. Atmosphere is very kid friendly, typically full of families. Depending on my mood I typically order the fruity waffle if I want sweet, or the fried chicken and waffle if I'm in the mood for sweet/savory. Guys the fried chicken and waffle is SO GOOD! The chicken is perfectly seasoned and so juicy, never over cooked or dry. Get extra strawberry butter - it compliments the dish so well. The fruity waffle is also delicious with copious amounts of fresh berries and banana on top. Portion sizes are humongous- sometimes my husband and I split the chicken and waffles. Note that you can ask for all dark or light meat. They are proficient at packing to-go orders and actually have a window in the front to pick them up. Overall we LOVE metro and will remain regulars here for the foreseeable future. read more

I figured since this is a place known for their chicken, I would try it. And it was terrible! The chicken seemed boiled first and then fried. And it was super fatty. I can't come back to this place or recommend it at all. Total spend for one person with a drink, tip, and half order of fried chicken Benedict was $18, way too much for it to be so poorly executed.
