In & Out Shawarma is your typical family owned neighborhood Metro-Detroit Middle Eastern…read morerestaurant. I remember visiting the first time a couple of years ago after reading the reviews stating the restaurant was inside the liquor store and being confused when I couldn't find it. Instead, they had just moved right next door in a newly renovated building. To be honest, I find that the restaurant interior here is bland and soulless but luckily the food here doesn't match the surroundings. During that initial visit, I did not like the food. I ordered the Meat and Chicken Shawarma Sandwiches and found that the meat in both were exceptionally dry and tough. If I had been on Yelp back then, it would likely have ended up as a 2 or 3 star. I went again recently for lunch to give it another chance, getting the same items again. The food arrived within 5 minutes or so after ordering. Meat Shawarma Sandwich ($6.75) - This was totally different from my previous visit. The meat was tender and flavorful, not mushy and not dry. There was a great balance of ingredients, with the meat, veggies, and tahini mixing together to create the perfect bite. The veggies were super fresh, with tomato, parsley, and crunchy and aromatic onions. The tahini added a good nuttiness. Overall the sandwich had a good amount of moisture but not enough to cause anything to go soggy. Chicken Shawarma Sandwich ($6.75) - Again this had great construction and balance of ingredients. The pickles were nice and crunchy with some sour acidity. The chicken was not the juiciest, but definitely not dry, and had a bit of a nice charred flavor. The garlic was solid and added a nice complementary pungency. The ingredients were distributed pretty evenly, resulting in a piece of each component in each bite. Side notes: Both sandwiches weighed between 7 and 8 ounces, which I think might be a bit on the smaller side. I am also not certain if the shawarma is shaved off the spit here. In & Out Shawarma improved so much this trip that I will definitely be going back in the future.

We ordered chicken and beef shawarma along with two large trays for about 20 people. As you can probably guess, I completely overestimated how much food 20 people could eat. But when the food is this good, having leftovers isn't exactly a problem. Everyone ate well, and plenty of people went home with food. Our party arrived around 2 PM, and the manager jokingly told us, "We close at 10 PM, so that's how much time you have." That set the tone immediately. We never felt rushed and were treated extremely well throughout the celebration. The ambiance was outstanding, and our waiters did a great job handling a large party. My only issue came with the drinks. Canned pop was $2.50 each, and some members of our party kept ordering them as the waiter continued offering more. I didn't realize how much that was adding to the bill until it arrived. To the manager's credit, once I raised the concern, he worked with me and split the additional cost. Excellent way to handle a customer concern. Great food, great atmosphere, excellent service, and management that understands hospitality. We came for a graduation celebration and left with full stomachs, leftovers, and a very good impression of Al Ameer West.

The night started off great, the hostess seated us at our favorite table, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, our server set a completely different tone. She was rude from the start. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but that kind of attitude shouldn't carry over to customers. There were 7 of us, and I will say the food came out quickly, which we all appreciated because we were starving. We ordered the whole boneless chicken, chicken shawarma sandwich, fried kibbie, rice, hummus, and salad, and everything was absolutely delicious. The food never disappoints here. The only downside was... where was our server? She was pretty much nonexistent throughout the meal. Thankfully, I asked my favorite server to take over, and he stepped in without hesitation. From that point on, the service was amazing, exactly what I've come to expect from this place. Despite the rough start, I'll definitely be back. The food is too good, and when the service is right, it's a great experience overall.

Tucked inside a BP, Amo Sami's Shawarma is serving up seriously amazing food. The staff were also incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of the more underappreciated cuisines in the local area is Yemeni. While Lebanese is the dominant influence here in metro Detroit, restaurants like Sana'a offer a different take on Arab food that highlights a different array of herbs/spices and places more emphasis on lamb. The lamb haneeth with basmati was tender and it had a nice crust on the outside. The rashosh bread (which could be a meal by itself) was also a good complement to the meat and rice. I felt like my order could have used more lamb and less rice, but it was still enough to feed two people. The dressing for the greens was quite acidic and helps cut some of the richness from the fatty lamb.
