We dined here for lunch on a leisure trip full of adventure. Our plans didn't originally call for a layover in DTW airport, but it happened anyway due to mechanical issues on our original flight and a burning desire to still make it to Montreal during the same day. The good news is that we had Delta food vouchers to burn and a hunger for Mediterranean food. We were promptly greeted and seated. Menus were provided and we selected the carrot appetizer, salad (big enough share), lamb burger and chicken shawarma. A tasty meal with good ingredients that was served quickly. This place also has a bar with beer, wine and cocktails, which we didn't try this time. Service was friendly, but due to the limited number of servers, a bit rushed. We would dine here again in the future if we have a taste for middle eastern food. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't have a flight that could get me into a lounge, so I made a stop at Mezza. I was actually excited to try it as it's almost always closed when I'm at the airport. The tabbouli was closer to pico de gallo which was really weird and the service was meh at best. The Caesar salad and fries were fine. An order of fries isn't on the menu, but if you ask, they'll give them to you. The Caesar salad was all in one bowl but separated: the romaine lettuce was under a handful of parmesan shavings, next to the croutons, and the dressing came in two cups. I don't like making my own Caesar salad -- when I order this kind of salad, I want it assembled. Instead, it's a deconstructed Caesar. I guess it's fine for people who want to control their Caesar. I had been having a rough day of travel with delayed or cancelled flights and was trying to get home to KC when I arrived at the Detroit airport for a very short layover. It was probably around 6 or 7pm and I was pretty hungry, and only had a little bit of time before boarding for the next flight began, but I found this little mediterranean place near my gate and decided to give them a go. They had on their menu a mediterranean pizza which sounded intriguing to me, and the price wasn't too bad for an airport so I placed my order with the friendly cashier (seriously SO friendly for an airport), and waited for my food. When it arrived it was hot and fresh, and I was so famished I pretty much just ate it out of the box while my flight started to board. It was honestly really pretty good! I think if I was ordering it from a regular pizza place my expectations may have been higher, but for an airport restaurant it had great flavor, was reasonably priced, and filled me up. All what you need while travelling. My only regret was eating it so fast as we ended up sitting on the tarmac for about two hours while dealing with airplane issues, I could have had a meal on the plane in comfort! Silver lining was that I had eaten, as that pizza literally kept me from starving for what turned into a VERY late arrival time at home. read more

Stopped at Mezza during a layover in Detroit after a red-eye flight on my way to Kentucky. I was hungry and tired, so I appreciated the quick service and relaxed atmosphere--definitely a solid airport dining option. I had the steak and eggs for breakfast. The meal was decent--nothing mind-blowing, but it hit the spot after a long flight. The steak was cooked well, and the eggs were just okay. I'd give the food a 3, but the staff and setting bumped the overall experience up to a 4. Food was good! Yes, it's airport expensive, but that's to be expected. Our party of 3 was seated right away, had good and timely service, and enjoyed our pre-flight meals. I tried the Chicken Shawarma Pita (comes with fries). The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and a good portion. The veggies tasted fresh, and somewhat non traditional tzatziki was good. Wonderful and quick service with excellent food! My friends and I all ordered Lamb Burgers and they were delicious. It had delicious feta cheese on a well cooked burger. The lettuce was fresh and the fries were great! Our server was gentle and gracious but strait to the point! We were in and out within 35 minutes! I stopped here after an early morning flight, waiting for my ride. The Bloody Mary was excellent but at that price it should come with a beer snit. The breakfast menu is very limited, perhaps too limited. I had an egg sandwich with a vegan sausage and American fries. It was so-so. The Brioche bun was a bit dry and the cheese was not melted. I appreciated the availability of vegan sausage though. I know it is an airport and prices are inflated but still, could have been better. The staff and service was excellent! On 23APR2024 on a connection in DTW, I thought I would give Mezza a try for something different than fast food. Natalie was a very pleasant server. I ordered the pan seared salmon with green beans, carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes. My food was ready in 10 minutes. The salmon was crispy on the outside and tender inside. When you're stuck in an airport for two days, you get to try a few different food stops. And since the airline is paying, we'd skipped the fast food stops. Today, for breakfast, we stopped at Mezza Mediterranean. Pricy. But the food was well prepared and served hot. (My #1 pet peeve). The scrambled eggs were fluffy and light. The bacon was a bit soggy, and not as crispy as I'd prefer. The potato wedges were fried to perfection. My wife's breakfast sandwich was enough for lunch later. Again, eggs, sausage & wedges. I dined at this restaurant, it was clear they were short staffed. The ladies working were pleasant enough the food was well airport food even tho I got the Salmon. The black lady said she wasn't going to take one from the tray that was all covered in plastic, all the cheese is the same. They will all be the same. I could clearly see they were not. I just didn't want the gone stale one. She started to agrue with me and was right up in my face telling me she knew what hard meant when I tried to explain why I didn't want the stale sandwich. Finally I gave up. I didn't need it that bad. I walked away and I can hear her complaining about ne to another staff member and it wasn't fair. I returned and the lady with tattoos and I spoke. She had seated me earlier. She apologized many times. Went and got me a fresh sandwich from the tray, showed it to me. All good. I understand your team is short staffed but this wasn't due to that is was just reluctantance by your staff member to accommodate fresh food request. At least she gets to go home and sleep in a bed until tomorrow. Id give you one star for this confrontation but the dining room staff were nice and tattooed lady was genuine. My list of bad airport eateries is apparently bottomless. Or these eateries think I'm bottomless because they don't give a moment's thought that their customers are about to board long flights when turbulence and delicate constitutions stand between you and the tiny cabin restroom. Given that frightening forethought, I tried to order smartly here but realized there was no such nutritional path here. I tried their so-called Crushed Lentil Soup for $5.99. I stopped here during a layover that lasted a couple of hours simply because it was one of the closest open establishments to my gate. It was definitely a mediocre experience (food-wise), although the service was pretty good, and the restaurant was relatively clean (for an airport restaurant). There were only I believe two waitresses working the floor when I arrived, and the young lady who was taking care of my table was quite friendly and provided quick service! I was very appreciative of her and her efforts, although again, the food was extremely mediocre. I wouldn't recommend or revisit unless it was the only available food and I was on a looooong layover and just absolutely famished. read more

I've eyed Mezza during many o' layovers in DTW and finally had a long enough layover to pop in, eat and get some work done this past week. It was the Rainforest Cafe-like olive tree in the center of the restaurant that kept luring me over to the menu. My early morning breakfast experience consisted of iced coffee and the egg white greek omelette with feta, olives and greens. It was quite tasty and on the lighter side. The part that made it less light was the accompanying crispy potatoes and wheat toast but I'm not complaining. My server was friendly and speedy and I appreciated the bar space overlooking the main hallway of the airport with plentiful outlets and great people watching. Some of the best airport food I've ever had, and I travel a lot. I didn't notice the poor Yelp reviews for this place until after I had stopped in here during a quick layover. I'm glad I didn't, however, because I had a great experience. I was traveling solo, but unfortunately the bar was full, so I sat at some seating along the back wall. The Service was extremely quick and friendly and even asked what time my flight was to ensure they'd have enough time. I ordered the Greek Salad and it was fantastic. Super fresh veggies and I really liked the dressing. I also ordered the Greek Pizza and added Chicken to it. The pizza was giant and absolutely full of flavors. I brought leftovers home with me and literally ate this pizza for like 3 meals. As stated, this was some of the best airport food Ive had anywhere. I was in on 12/30 with my family. I left the restaurant shaking in complete SHOCK at how disrespectful one employee was to me and my children. Julie was our server and was incredibly kind. She was so friendly that even my 12YO son commented, "Wow, she's nice" after she took our order. We had closed out our tab and had a great experience up until this point. After we closed out, we realized we needed a to-go box. Julie was tending to other customers and another server a few feet away was doing nothing. I kindly asked for a box, and she shouted "JULIE!" from across the room. My son asked the same server (doing nothing), and she showed more frustration by saying, "I'm not getting you a box if I'm not getting paid for it! I'm not your server!" My son was surprised and walked back to me empty-handed. In the last attempt, I asked another server (who was occupied) and she kindly agreed to help me. The server who refused to help started yelling and calling me and my son names getting the restaurant's attention. We left, and I had several "life lessons" to debrief with my kids. To Julie - Thank you for spreading kindness and exceeding your job description. My experience was no reflection on you. You taught my children that genuine kindness has a ripple effect. To the server who created a scene - you may want to consider a job that doesn't interact with people. Thank you for teaching my children how to never behave as an employee and human being. I hope you learn this lesson one day, too. read more

Tried this place on route home and got the Chicken Kebab Plate ($17.59) with salad instead of almond rice. The plate comes with grilled veggies (eggplant, zucchini, and tomato) and 6 pieces of kebabs. There also was a pretty tasty garlic sauce which was disappointingly packed in a plastic container. I wish it was just served in a plate instead of that plastic cup. I wasn't too impressed with the kebab because they were really dry. They either need to be marinated for a longer time or grilled for a little lesser time. Whatever the problem is, they weren't great at all. Also, their menu is a bit expensive. Ordered the kabob plate and a side order of fresh outta bread. Everything was tasty, the food came out hot and fresh and super fast. I wish I could give zero stars. I did visit the bar during a layover to Chicago a few weeks back and ordered an espresso martini. It was good, although the bartender was less than kind - just seemed to be going through the motions. I stopped by again this past weekend during another layover. I stood outside the restaurant behind a few other people as we waited (and waited and waited) to be seated whilst 4 or 5 workers were in a corner chatting away with each other. No one came. The people in front of me left. Then others came behind me and waited. I turned to them and said, "I guess I'll just seat myself." I walked in and let the female server know that we had been waiting there for several minutes and I decided to seat myself. She gave me a dirty look and said, "Well, we're short staffed". There was ONE person at the bar and 5 tables of people, not crowded at all. I sat down. The server then decided to seat the other patrons who were in line behind me and handed them menus. No menu for me. I got up from the table and walked over to the bar. I asked the bartender if I could get a menu. The very unprofessional bartender (same one from weeks earlier) then told me I'll have to wait for the server to get me one. I told bartender, we had been waiting several minutes to get seated and I seated myself due to no one paying attention to the patrons waiting to be seated. She barked at me with the ugliest look, "Well, we're understaffed." I walked away briefly and then walked back to the bar and asked her for a piece of paper and a pen. She responded, "Can't you wait until I've made these drinks?" Like WTF. Such a rude person. She finally gave me a piece of paper and pen and I wrote her name Joanie on it just so I could remember to include her in this review of the nasty experience she gave me. I asked her who the manager was and she said she was the manager, so just remember this is the type of management that approves of this type of behavior from this establishment, so expect that if you go there. I understand that a lot of restaurants are short-staffed these days. The restaurant owners might serve them well if they train their staff (even if short-staffed) to treat customers with even a little respect and attention - maybe acknowledge customers even if they have to wait, and remember that being at an airport, flyers have layovers and don't have all day to wait to be served. They've also been traveling all day and don't deserve to be treated like sh*t just because a restaurant is short-staffed. It was a lousy excuse anyways because the place was not crowded at all. Decided on Mezza for lunch while waiting on our next flight, because it was right next to our gate. Turned out to be the wrong choice. The menu looked pretty good, the service was decent, and everything seemed clean. But the food was not very good at all. My wife and I both decided to try the chicken shawarma wrap, which turned out to be the wrong choice. The chicken was supposed to be shredded, but was actually cut into chunks. It was very dry and some pieces were actually somewhat hard. It was as if the chicken was leftover from some other recipe, or a couple days old. Either way, it was not good. read more

Surprisingly good place to grab a quick meal before our flight. We were flying Delta airlines out of gate 54, and this gave us a perfect view to see when boarding started. We had the hummus plate and The BLT chicken sandwich. The hummus plate is nothing to speak of, and I probably wouldn't order it again - The BLT chicken sandwich however was really tasty, with a flavorful sauce and a good size portion, along with French fries. Service by Julie was competent, though it was a bit delayed as she was pretty much working the entire restaurant on her own. I already decided what I wanted though so I ordered the calamari and shawarma combo. The Calamari was just ok. Nothing great about it and super greasy. The shawarma Combo was good but the beef was horrible. The meat was hard and even my utensils had a hard time cutting. The chicken redeemed the dish. It was cooked perfectly and the garlic sauce on the side was perfect. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because of the service and if you do end up getting the shawarma get the chicken one only and not the Combo or the beef. You'll thank me later... read more

I stopped here trying to get a healthy meal. Chose the hummus and a yogurt parfait. I've never had gritty hummus before and it was just the worst dried out thing I ever tasted. A few bites of that and in the trash it went. The yogurt parfait was one of those where there's a container of granola on the top, except there was no container at all. It was just granola floating on the top of yogurt. As you might guess the bottom of the granola was completely soggy while the top was crunchy. Both these meals must of been sitting there for days and days before I bought them. Now I'm inclined to never go back there again, so I have to ask if the restaurant knows that recycling food like this will just ruin their business.
