Tiny piece of Kabob meat
Teresa L.

Hello Shawarma remains in Hamtramck, but has changed their location to Caniff. The restaurant now has a dine-in option along with their Carryout Service. The interior is still a work in progress, but is still inviting. They seem to offer complimentary tea. Along with a beef shawarma, I ordered a single beef kabob skewer. It came with grilled veg, pita bread and garlic sauce. The shawarma was smaller than it was originally. It was still very tasty and well cooked. However, the Kabob was very disappointing. The portion was extremely small, especially one of the pieces of meat was slightly bigger than a quarter. The meat was also very chewy. The grilled vegetables contained onion, carrot and zucchini. The small slices of onion we're so burnt they were inedible. The other vegetables were okay, although not seasoned. I would probably return for the shawarma, because of the flavors. I would never again order the kabob. At a price of almost $10, it was not worth the money.

It doesn't look like much when u pass by, looks like a normal restaurant or typical arabic fast food but its not. Its a place where you can actually enjoy authentic arabic food without going broke. The owner stands at the counter and makes sure all his customers are well taken care off. The food is dangerously good specially their special shawarma and pizza's . The place is super clean and the food is super fresh. This place is a diamond in a ruff. My full recommendation and trust me you won't regret. Kiddos to the owner and the chef.

Meal

The food is very delightful and exquisite. Great customer service. I would really recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting hamtramck.

Coney Star Halal Kitchen - Chicken tikka, Naga and Philly steak egg rolls, yummy!

Even better, Star is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which has become a rare and precious thing now that COVID has flung our dining options back by 25 years. (Star had more limited hours when they first opened and were ramping up, but are now at full 24/7 operation.) I stopped by with two friends late on a Saturday night after celebrating's a friend's birthday down the street in Hamtramck. Star's parking lot was brightly lit and is near a high-traffic intersection (Conant & Davison), and the lobby/dining room inside is also brightly lit even late at night. They have a big and diverse menu, even compared to most other coneys. You'll find most of the expected standards here -- breakfast plates, omelettes, and sandwiches; burgers and hot sandwiches; coney dogs; fried appetizers. But there's also quite a few dishes not found at other coneys: chicken wings; burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches made with naga pepper sauce; chicken tikka sandwiches; but perhaps best of them all are five different kinds of egg rolls, which are large and well-stuffed. I had loaded hashbrowns, chicken tikka egg rolls, and a naga dog. My tablemates had Philly steak egg rolls, a burger, and a breakfast sandwich. We were all happy with everything we got, and I'll gladly go back again even when it's not a post-bar stop. Glad to have you in the neighborhood, Star!

For two people, without reservations, we waited about 30 minutes on an early Saturday evening. Well with the wait. The interior was nicely designed and the staff were very attentive. Ordered the Kumuhana and tried the Ji Hibiscus beverage. The drink was good, but on the sweet side. The food was amazing. Chicken was super tender, rice was cooked well, corn salad added a nice touch of freshness, and the plantains were good too. A very filling meal, I'm surprised I was able to finish it all. Would definitely come back again, if in town.

I also asked the waitress which dish is the most popular and they told me the Samaki is their #1 seller. I tired half/half on the rice on my first visit, this visit I went with spiced rice pilau only. I'm not a fan of coconuts, while the coconut rice doesn't have a overpowering coconut flavor, spiced rice will be my to go moving forward. Nyumbani, while decent, the meat was bit under seasoned to my taste. Kuku was the better over Kuhuhana. Mbuzi - the goat shank was lukewarm when we got it, it was bit hard to break the meat off the bone, but worth trying at least once. Service was superb on both visits, water bottle gets refilled w/o asking, and great experience. While I won't be able to make it out often, definitely will be on my list of places to revisit while in Detroit area.
