Awful app everything about this bus line. Terrible. Smashed kiosks that supposedly we are supposed to put money in to get credit on our account. Bus drivers driving right past the bus stop while I stand there and wait for them to pick me up . Updated the app you can't even have saved addresses or select a certain time that you want to take the bus or a certain time you want to arrive. I have three cards that I can put money onto the bus account but none of them work always says that the correct address or incorrect data input or something . I have to carry cash around with me in case the crap doesn't work this is just a nightmare read more

Sick and tired half the time I go somewhere on the route 15 going west or east on 120th and center Street I have to wait an extra hour to get home or be late to my destination because there's never half the time only one bus out there running every other hour , And they wonder why people in Omaha do not succeed at a job because they cannot get to the place of employment on time, this is bad management. read more

The Metro Area Transit system was originally supposed to be designed by local experts and engineers familiar with traffic patterns, commuter needs, and so on. However, the MAT executives procrastinated and decided to save time and money by visiting a kindergarten classroom, spiking the kids' HI-C with vodka, then giving each child a map for a section of the city and telling them to draw lines. Thus the Omaha MAT system was (re)established. Prime Example: Omaha has absolutely NO bus service to/from Eppley Airport between 9:22am and 3:06pm. Omaha city officials spend millions of dollars on gaudy promotions and catchphrases, yet the biggest way to help reverse Omaha's reputation as a cowtown run by lead-chomping hayseeds might be to address, say, a lack of public transportation to/from the airport for nearly 6 hours in the middle of the day. About every other time I've attempted to use the MAT system, something has gone terribly wrong. Take the day I stood at a bus stop on in zero degree weather, literally on the street because snow covered the sidewalk at the bus stop, and no bus came for at least 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after the posted pick-up time. When I (still standing at the bus stop) to report the issue to a representative, she informed me that I must have just missed the bus when it stopped. Of course, had a bus actually come to the stop, I would have had to move out of the way or get hit, but she wouldn't admit a bus may have not come at the right time. Another time, a bus driver cut me off, then flipped me off when I dared look at him as he passed by. There's that Omaha friendliness we hear so much about. Omaha truly gleams as a wonderful city with many fantastic attractions and positive aspects. Just a quick peruse through Yelp listings will confirm that. However, so long as the MAT system continues to be designed and managed with such severe incompetency and glaring inadequacies, Omaha will never progress very far in reality or in reputation. read more

I have a simple set of qualifications that I have developed for evaluating my likelihood of using public transportation in a given city: -If I have to walk more than halfway to my destination to get to a stop, there's no way in HELL I am using your public transportation system. -If it takes more than three times as long as it would have taken if I broke both of my legs and crawled to my destination, I ain't gonna ride. -If I feel safer wearing a DEA t-shirt in Cartagena, Columbia than I do riding the bus, I'll stick to my car. Unfortunately, all of these things are true of Omaha's public transportation system, and despite many attempts to utilize it, I can't justify doing so. read more

As a frequent rider of the Omaha Metro and coming from a state that is one of the top ten U.S. cities with the best public transit systems I feel very confident in writing about my experience with the Omaha Transit system. Years ago I rode the bus from Creighton University to Westroads mall, it was fine and I was able to get to and from my destination without getting lost. Fast forward to 2013-2014 and the Ometro is a frequent choice of mine to get to areas where riding my Schwinn to certain destinations would be a wee bit out of my limits. Since my first ride on the bus here I have seen drastic improvements and there are several things that I like about Ometro and a few improvements that I believe will really benefit the transit system and promote an eco-friendly alternative to everyone riding their cars. My first impression of Omaha and Nebraska in general was that you pretty much need a car to get anywhere because things are further apart and it ends up making more sense to go out and have a car to get to where you need to go, rather than being mindful of our carbon footprint and (usually) saving money in the process by riding the bus. Now that I've been riding the bus regularly for the last 6 months I don't always believe in this statement. I truly believe that the people of Ometro are doing their best to change this mindset, especially in the Omaha area, and they seem to be trying to expand the service to neighboring cities like Bellevue, Papillion, and La Vista. Let me start with the things that are really great about Ometro: * The fare boxes are really easy to use and so helpful in regards to transfers. It's $1.25 for a one way trip and just 25 cents more to get a transfer, your transfer gets spit out of the machine with a time frame you have to use it. Easy Peasy! * The online destination route is exactly like Hawai'i's one where you put in your address and where you're going the time you want to depart or arrive and it generates the best routes for you and what time you need to leave to get to your bus on time. *Generally, the buses are pretty close to the times indicated online and on the bus routes unless there is rode construction, but it seems the drivers do their best to be on time. * Bus drivers are friendly and pretty knowledgeable of routes and areas around metro. * Price is pretty darn cheap to ride the bus here. *I like that if you pay more for your fare because you don't have exact change it just spits out a card for you to use with the amount left on it for you to use towards your next trip. My ideas that may improve the system a bit: *I think the bus system would really benefit from expanding their service in the Bellevue, La Vista, Papillion area. Both within these three cities and to and from the Omaha metro area besides the early morning express bus to down town and back in the afternoon. * Though the prices for the bus are fairly cheap, I think it would help to raise it at least a quarter to allow expansion of routes and staff to promote mass transit and make move in the direction of becoming a healthy eco-friendly state/city. *Keeping routes that currently link southwest Omaha and downtown Omaha like the number 5 as well as maintaining routes that move people to major shopping plazas like K plaza and southwest Omaha *create routes that will be an alternative transportation method to major companies with large staff like PayPal, Ameritrade, West, etc. * promote mass transit more in Omaha and in neighboring cities as a great alternative to using their cars. Despite my thoughts on possible improvements I know that they are currently proposing vast improvements to their current bus routes by providing more buses for the most used routes, limiting service in low service areas, and rerouting certain bus routes. There are some improvementsI think will greatly help the system be more efficient and some that I think will negatively affect it by limiting customer's ability to choose the bus as an option. I just hope there is some way Omaha can become more active in providing a healthy eco-friendly environment by investing in a great mass transit system in a wonderful City that has really changed throughout the years. I have high hopes for the Ometro and I think more people should give them a chance and a try them as a better alternative to cars. You might just be surprised with your experience. read more

The bus driver this morning was very disrespectful, rude and nasty to say the very least. A gentleman had a question for him and was standing at least a foot from the white line while we where stopped at a redlight. He refused to answer the question and told him to "shut up and sit down" the gentleman again asked him politely if the 18 caught this bus, he again told him to shut up and sit down. When I first moved here, everyone said the bus system is a joke and isn't good...well, I have to disagree...Yes, it'd be nice if they ran on holidays and went later into the evenings and weekends...However, it's actually been pretty reliable for me...the reason I can't 4 star them is because recently I needed to use it very early in the morning...the route I needed contrary to what the schedule said never showed up and I was late every shift...not cool...and lately a lot of the drivers aren't as friendly as they used to be...Hopefully things will change and get back on track... read more

Not very many route options farther west. Mostly the express buses. If I want to travel west from 114th and Dodge to 172nd and Dodge I have to go to 90th and Dodge first. Then catch another bus and backtrack. And then you don't know where the bus stops are. They want you to call Mat customer service to get information. I did and I can't say much for the representatives. Talked to 2 of them and never got any help. Can't Omaha get it together as far as a basic transportation system? The Omaha Metro has some really great drivers. (One guy named Rodney, who sadly is no longer on my route home, would actually slow down and watch for me when he passed my place of business to make sure I didn't miss my ride.) However, they have some pretty bad drivers, too. One time the bus was about 5 minutes early and I was about half a block from the stop. I start running and waving, but slowed down when I realized I wasn't going to make it. Luckily, the stoplight was in my favor and the driver had to stop. So, I walk across 72nd street, right in front of the bus, and stood there waiting for him to open the door. He wouldn't even acknowledge me. I had to pound on the door twice before he let me in. And even then he just stared straight ahead. I know he had been sitting there wondering whether he could get away with driving off and leaving me. Too many witnesses, though. This idiot was mad because he had lost the race. The fact that he was 5 minutes early told me that he was playing some kind of "let's see how many people I can leave stranded" game. He definitely had some anger issues. One night I rode home with him and I actually had to hold onto the seat in front of me to keep from getting thrown to the floor. He was driving like a maniac! Then, recently, I had to wait a half hour in the rain because this driver is such a socializing chatterbox that she can never be on time. EVER!! I ride with her all the time, so I know her M.O. I've seen her leave a transfer point 10 minutes after she was supposed to because she had to chat up and hug (3 times) one of the other drivers. When she is driving the bus, she is constantly talking to whoever will listen and she has to hug and tell her life story to every other passenger. If you're anything like me, you can forget about reading with the constant stream of inane chatter that comes out this woman's mouth. And she has this really loud annoying cackle of a laugh. Anyway, when she dropped me off, I said to her, "Thanks for making me wait in the rain for half-an-hour." (I was rightfully mad!) And she said, "Oh! You're welcome, honey! Ah-HA-HA-HA-HA!" and drove off. God! She is irritating as HELL! It's pretty bad when you have to try and figure out a different route just to avoid certain drivers. One of the rules posted on the bus is that you're not supposed to talk to the drivers, so I wish she would just shut up and drive! read more
