This is one of the best local visitor centers I've ever visited. Located in the Old Market area of downtown Omaha, this visitor center had a wealth of information on Omaha, central Nebraska and the surrounding areas. The center is staffed by volunteers and the gentleman we talked to was a retiree from the Union Pacific Railroad and it was obvious that he loved working at the visitors center and that he loved talking about Omaha and the State of Nebraska. The other staff seemed equally engaged and enthused about their jobs. If you're in downtown Omaha and you're looking for something to do, be sure to stop by this visitors center to learn about everything the area has to offer.

    Lots of brochures.

Amazing visitor center! With covid, they were able to let us know what was open or closed. Very helpful! We had the kids with us and they suggested we hit the Hollywood candy shop. They were spot on! Great find!! Highly recommend stopping in and grabbing some travel tips!

We had purchased our passes ahead of time because we were a party of 8 and wanted to make sure we were all together. We bought the family pack which includes climbing gloves, which are a requirement. If you have 4 people attending, this is your best deal. They do also offer some "try it" deals that seem to be a good value. So keep your eye peeled if you're looking to save some cash. After check in, the staff sends you to the harness area where you get strapped in and watch a short safety video. Then a guide teaches you about your mechanism as you're responsible for all your moves on the course. (You can call for staff if you need assistance while on the course. They had a lot of available staff.) The kids did a ton of different courses. I did the black first (with the kids, who left me in the dust). It is highly recommended that you don't do black first, but here I was ... well I completed the entire course so I guess there's some bragging rights but next time I'll stick to the other [easier] courses.

Winter Quarters is a terrific 30-75 minute visit with a 16 min video, visitors center, and the cemetery. And it's free. The kids love pushing the handcart and the log cabin and the covered wagon. The museum tells the story of Winter Quarters and also about the 90,000 pioneers traveling the 1300 miles from Nauvoo to Salt Lake from 1846-1890. A really cool interactive map shows all the different companies coming by wagon, handcart, train, and over the oceans by steamship and sailing ship- so you can look for the company your ancestor traveled in. You can find who is buried in the cemetery, maybe it's your great grandmother! This is a great place to learn about the pioneers heritage. The guides are so pleasant and helpful.

This area boasts an urban beach, some really nice and fun swings and chairs, and what I would consider to be one of the best playgrounds I've taken my kids to. It feels safe, it's clean, and it's filled with families enjoying these free amenities to the city. My kids loved it and I left really impressed. Next time we are in Omaha with the kids this will be a must stop for us!

Some of the parks features include sand volleyball courts, a restroom facility, water fountains, fire pits, Adirondack chairs, and an urban beach, the Labor Statue, a nice marina, an amazing playground, glider swings, and paved walkways. They also have umbrella tables and chairs for visitors take advantage of. This park is relatively new, being dedicated in 2020 and it spans about 23 acres. The park leads to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. The fenced in playground is awesome. It has a few water features, a couple of towering rocket themed jungle gyms with slides and bridges, a couple of spinning net climbers, a trojan horse, a pile of tree trucks to climb on, and a zip line. There is also a sand area for kids to get messy. It is a very impressive playground. It is on artificial grass and gravel and there are benches placed around the area for caregivers to sit while their little ones play. This is a very nice park that overlooks the Missouri River and not only give you a scenic view of the River, but of Iowa, across the river and the Kerrey Bridge (which is extra awesome at night). The investment in this park was money well spent. I really enjoyed this park. I stopped here on my way the the Kerrey Bridge and chose to hang out there a bit. This park hosts special events on occasion. I hear that it can get crazy during some of them and to avoid the park, if possible. There is a huge open cement pad behind the Kiewit Luminarium. It has a few tables, but is otherwise pretty open. I spent about an hour here and could have easily spent a half day or more. Omaha has some awesome parks. I highly recommend checking this park out and spending some time here.
