A beautiful scenic escape from hustling bustling Omaha going into Fontenelle Forest, it will greet you with tons of wildlife and a lot of new information on what lives around Omaha! It's $15 for adults and that gets you the full experience with all the hiking trails and fun indoor information center. In the information center there is a rescue aviary and reptiles, there is a tortoise that is 50+ years old! Definitely worth the $15 just to see the tortoise! The service was more than exceptional, the workers were very informative and helpful! We wanted to see the best trails for the gloomy weather and got a fun (and safe) adventure that took us about 1.7 miles around and we saw the Omaha Skyline and the river! I cannot recommend Fontenelle enough, it is so gorgeous and worth the trip to Bellevue!

Fontenelle Forest is really beautiful. What a peaceful space to be in with so much greenery and wildlife to see. A cool playground for kids, fun hiking trails, and a wooden trail if you don't feel like hiking. A bird sanctuary with beautiful birds that are being well taken care of and the inside of the building is just as lovely. I didn't spend much time here as we were on a field trip and it was kind of rainy. With all this said it is buggy (obviously ) and I would be sure to say there is potential for ticks but I didn't get any. I'm not really the outdoor girlie so I spent most of my time inside. Staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! Definitely worth a visit!

These barred owls - and other raptors here - were rescued but no longer able to survive in the wild

This is such a nice place to take a quick break from the city! My daughter LOVES birds. So even though I didn't think we would see a lot of birds in February, we made a visit. Well - the forest is FULL of birds. We saw three different kinds of woodpeckers, plus nuthatches, juncos, a yellow something-something (she could tell you), and a group of turkeys. It was really nice. They also have an area there for raptors who have been injured and can't survive in the wild. We have been members here for years, because generally if you are planning to visit something 2 or 3 times a year it is probably worth having a membership. That way you can stop in for a couple hours and not have to set aside a day for it. To me, that's a great value. A nice thing about this forest is that it's right here in the city. We usually head over to John's Grecian Delights over in the nearby almost-empty Southroads Mall either before or after our hike.

We were at Fontanelle Forrest tonight for a Fundraiser/Silent Auction..the food was on point and the servers were AMAZING ...beautiful building and gorgeous scenery..until a walnut fell on Dean's forehead ...(we must have missed the helmet zone) it was a very large space with a gift shop and many items for auction..outside seating area set up...with benches and high tops and servers bars and buffet..perfect evening experience ...(except for the bump on the forehead..we left early to ice it)

Fontenelle Forest is very neat, even in winter! We went at the end of Winter (going on Spring) and we could definitely see how the location was great, even covered in snow. We walked around the wooden boardwalks, read all the plaques, and took a few off-the-path hikes - one down to the river. We had a lot of fun and will be returning in Summer or Fall when everything is full of color and alive. Still though, if our only option was to return again next winter, I'm sure we would!

I have to stop for an update after getting to enjoy the tree rush adventure! WOW!!!! This was out of this world! The team alone made us feel so comfortable and Geoff the instructor was great. I loved the blue courses a lot and would love to come back to try Nighthawk. The bird refugee is amazing and the info they give about the birds is great. It is heartwarming to know they have a safe haven.

Fontenelle forest is definitely a hidden gem in the Omaha area for nature lovers. Long, scenic tours on either a paved path or more rugged terrains gives all levels of hikers and walkers a chance to be outside. Young and old will both find something to enjoy on their visit here. This was our third time coming since covid hit and we were thrilled to see the basement kid's activity has finally reopened! Our son loved seeing the turtles, snakes and frogs they have in small habitats as well as all the ways to "explore" nature from inside on a colder day. Lastly, while we did not participate in the ropes course, their TreeTop ropes course (additional cost) is something I would highly recommended if you're looking for an added adventure! It is $11 per adult, $8 per child (2-17) or $70 for a family year-long membership which is very cost effective if you plan to return a second or third time.

Fun times in the forest! I was skeptical after realizing there was an admission to get in, but in the end, it was totally worth it. I started the day by checking out the popular boardwalk loop that overlooks the river. This is definitely a family-friendly loop (wheelchair and stroller accessible as well). I trecked a bunch of random trails the rest of the day. It was a fun adventure and a great way to get out of the city and into the woods. Be sure to grab a map before you head out though :) Not as appealing to me, but equally as impressive, was the nature center/animal exhibits. Seemed to be a hit with the kids. I will most likely be buying a yearly pass!

This is definitely a hidden gem especially if you are stationed at Offutt, AFB {it's literally a short ten minute drive from the back gate.} My family enjoys going here every few weeks to get some fresh air together. You can either do a more leisure walk on the boardwalk {honestly my fav} or go all in by hiking on the various trails. We usually grabs Dunkin donuts/coffee before hand to enjoy on our walk since it's on the way there as well. I highly recommend Fontenelle Forest for anyone looking to reconnect with nature in the Bellevue area.

This place is amazing. Did this hike in Nov. so the leaves were still falling off the trees with the breeze. My phone said it was 43 degrees but with the winds, it felt like it was it was in The 20's! Only did about 2-3 miles and got lost for a bit, but got back on easily. The lakes and the small river looked beautiful. I would love to come back in the Spring or Summer to see all the green foliage and colorful flowers. Also ran into some deer, rabbits, and many types of birds. Great place for kids of all ages. There are flat trails, and some steep trails. Something for everyone. There is also an obstacle course for the brave.

Some trail about 15 mins into the actual hiking!

Step into Fontanelle Forest and it doesn't even seem like you're even in the typical Nebraska.. Me and my girlfriend and a couple buddies hiked for 2 hours and it felt like we just barely scratched the surface of this place. Has an abundance of hills for you to get a good workout on and offers some great viewpoints that reminded me of parts of the Pacific Northwest. Bring a daypack, some bottles of ice cold water and a mid-hike lunch and immerse yourself in a rare gem in the Omaha area!!

Not surprisingly, do watch out for ticks in the spring.
