Iv always enjoyed fishing there and hiking. I've always had a nice time there . Always take tick spray with you, these ticks are really thick this year last time I went I picked up three of them. But otherwise a very enjoyable experience. read more

The Omahawaks air field is at this park, and it's so neat! There is a full air strip for the Omahawks planes to fly. I see planes flying around when I walk, but we just went to the airshow over Labor Day Weekend. It's a neat area off the Fort st. entrance. There is seating and a picnic area as well. Make A Wish was there selling food and drink as apart of their fundraiser. I hope to learn more and come back for more shows as the kids were enamored with the sights. read more

I walk around Standing Bear often and it's a beautiful trail. Very well kept, not too busy, with beautiful views. Great place to take young kids learning to ride a bike as it's pretty flat. read more

Great place to walk off some turkey day calories with family. This location is close by my parents home and so wanted to venture out with my niece and nephew to get some fresh air. We really enjoyed our time there. Parking was plenty for the lot that we went to but seems like there are additional lots if that 1 is full. Was able to get to the trail pretty easy just using Google maps. Make sure to bring doggy bags as there are not any on the trail. read more

Standing Bear Lake a great lake, we should pay closer attention to and keep it nice . There has to be something done about the people that are coming to this Park that are bringing pit bull, German shepherd, large dog breeds with no leash control, running around and small dogs. We are trying to enjoy a walk and get bothered by a dog not on a leash, come on people NO leashes on them Running loose with the owners at the park with them not paying attention to the laws of Omaha State parks. Your dog needs to be leashed not let loose running around I never seen a Nebraska Humane Society truck patrolling the park for dogs without leashes or police vehicles or Park ranger vehicles this park is going to go down quick if it is not maintained with some type of supervision there are people drinking alcohol and breaking bottles in the park, and in the park on the grass With their cars and pick up trucks destroying the landscape. Something has to be done, When will someone step in like maybe the mayor of Omaha and get this taken care of or is this another part of Omaha that they just don't care about? Someone step up and save our park from the hoodlums racing up and down the road, crashing into trees and one other thing that really bothers me is the exit leaving the park in between the hills the cars fly by there and there is going to be a accident at the intersection leaving the Park on 132nd. People fly up and down that street and the people coming out of the park are not aware of how fast the traffic is really traveling and there is going to be a bad accident. The road forks, take the left side. It leads directly to the lake. If you go to the right, there is a little parking lot where you can park and hike to the lake. Great trails, good children's park if you have a child 4 and under. Lots of ticks though.

We came here to get some sun. The contemporary playground had my kids entertained for several hours.

I absolutely adore this park! Wonderful for family outings, walks, plenty of trail to enjoy a nice nature filled experience.

This has changed so much from when I was younger. Lots of areas to walk - I was able to find a great spot to watch the sunset and can't wait to go back and get more opportunity to take more pictures. Very peaceful and beautiful. read more

Standing Bear has a major tick problem. Do not bring your dogs. It's just crazy how many ticks i found in car a couple days after going. It's beautiful, but they need to get rid of those ticks. read more

This is a great recreational area all-around. I walk/jog my dogs here and there are tons of runners and joggers here whenever I'm on the path. It's not paved all the way around, but I don't have a problem turning around at a certain point to still achieve whatever distance I want. This is also a great place for paddling in the summer. read more

We spend a fair amount of time at standing bear. Whether it be biking, jogging or checking out the radio control planes at hawk field we always enjoy our time. The lake and trails are well maintained and clean. My one big gripe is that the trail along 144th is not finished, nor has it been for over 8 years. You can't run a full circle around the lake unless you want to jog on the very bumpy and narrow strip of land along 144th which is too risky in my opinion. read more

Standing Bear is a decent little lake for people who live in northwest Omaha. The trail is pretty well-maintained for about 4 miles around the north, east and south sides of the lake -- but if you want to make a full loop, you've got to take about 1/3 of a mile on the side of a 2-lane road with no real path. Totally doable but not exactly safe in my book. If you're deciding between this or Zorinsky for a workout, I'd lean toward Zorinsky. SB is a great option for a relaxing picnic spot, though! There's a cute park overlooking the north shore of the lake(just take the far northeast entrance off 132nd and you'll run right into it). There are a bunch of picnic tables and some charcoal grills - and plenty of space for kids and dogs to run around without disturbing other groups. There isn't a bathroom or covered picnic area, though - so plan accordingly. read more

Wow... another first review by a lowly non-Omaha resident. lol Standing Bear is a little over 4 miles around on its paved trail. The coastline is chock-a-block full of nice little fishing spots. There are at least 5 places to park and a couple of neighborhood access points on the south side. The trail itself winds around the coves and is mostly wooded, with only a few exposed sections. So... hard to beat. Tips: A normal runner will take about 40-45 minutes to run around the lake. There is no trail on the 144th/west side. Simply jog along the road and you will eventually see the parking on the north side of the lake. There are some rough trail options to get to 144th in the cold season... they are overgrown in the warm season. read more

Standing Bear is a fantastic lake to spend your time around or on. It's a man-made lake named after Ponca leader Chief Standing Bear, and is operated by the City of Omaha. The lake has a surface area of 135 acres and is surrounded by 396 acres of parkland, according to it's website. It's a day use only park area. I spent most of last summer paddle boarding around the lake and it's various small channels. It is a no wake lake, so it is usually occupied by kayaks or canoes. I have never seen more than 3 small vessels on it though, so I wouldn't call it a busy lake. The boat ramp is located off the 144th Street entrance and is fairly well maintained. The channels that run to the west are narrow and have little water movement. They are fun to explore by paddle board, but eventually become too narrow to turn around in. There is a well maintained trail around most of the lake, accessible at all of the entrances. The trail is cement and probably one of the nicest lake trails in Omaha, with the complete circuit running approximately 4 miles. However, there is about a half mile stretch along 144th Street that runs right next to the road and is not paved. It is more of worn-in foot bath, but bikers have the option to use the street. I would not recommend this during rush hour. Most entrances also have a port-a-potty available for use. I think the only thing that would make this lake better for me would be to have the city finish the circuit, allowing for safe passage of the 144th Street stretch away from the roads. read more

Nice, small lake for biking/jogging. No wake boating and plenty of fishing spots around the perimeter. I've seen many ice-fisherman in the winter as well. No playground for kids, just a couple of swings on the south side. Trails are pretty but walking along 144th is downright scary if you want to get all the way around the lake. I stick to one side or the other. Cunningham and Zorinsky are other nearby lakes you might also consider. read more
