This review is just for the grounds/gardens since the inside is not dog friendly. The exterior is nice but there's really just not that much to see. It was a bit awkward because it seemed as if they had set up a wedding reception or event with lots of white chairs on the lawn, however, the only signs were that you could rent the space and not that they were having an event. We only stayed we only stayed for a few minutes because I didn't want to intrude on whatever event was going to occur. Having an updated website with information on events and closures would be a great addition. There is some information posted about the family and the structure but overall this is similar to a small park and it's nice that they allow people to walk around.

A beautiful castle-like home that's been carefully restored. They offer house tours that not only go into the history of the house, but of the family, the city, and the world at the time. Our docent was really knowledgeable about things, even down to the materials used in each room. The design of the house is really beautiful, particularly the stairs and all the stained glass windows. You can also walk around the grounds and enjoy the gardens and trees. You don't need a reservation in advance to take the tour but you should check the times in advance so you're not waiting around for a while for your tour. Definitely worth a stop if you have a couple of hours free in Omaha!

The tours of Joslyn Castle are a true gem of Omaha. The guide was informative, knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Joslyn family and their large impact on Omaha. The castle Is absolutely stunning and the tour was thorough enough that you could really appreciate every detail. Highly recommend!!

We were married at the castle 25 years ago and decided to revisit it on a tour for a Saturday date. It was so nostalgic and lovely. We especially liked seeing the parts of the castle that have continued to be renovated over the years as well as the memories of our special day. A beautiful venue and a wonderful piece of Omaha history.

What a fascinating place in the middle of Omaha! I was in town to visit family, and wanted to see some of the sights. Definitely the guided tour is a must. We went on a Sunday for the first tour of the day (1 PM). It was six of us, along with a couple of other small groups. I believe the tour is limited to 40 people, but was happy that there was maybe half that. The tour is around an hour. Incredibly informative tour guide. I don't think this is suitable for high school kids or under unless they're really interested in history, but for adults it is fascinating. If you happen to be in Omaha, or if you live in Omaha, this is definitely something you need to do.

Recently, my husband and I went on a day date and had an amazing experience exploring this hidden gem. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in history or architecture. It's definitely a must-visit!

I was very happy I was able to make it to a tour with one of the knowledgeable docents. The story of the Joslyn family and the building of the grounds is very interesting. The craftsmanship is truly extraordinary. If you enjoy history or architecture you should make a point of taking the tour.

We went on one of their scheduled tours, Thursday at 2:00. They open the doors 15 minutes before the tour officially starts. No reservations needed. Admission is reasonable. There is plenty of private parking. The tour starts with a short video then your tour guide takes you on the house tour. Our tour guide was really informative, had stories, and was funny. She kept the attention of my 17 and 20 year old sons. I think George and Sarah would be proud of how well the house was being kept. They also have a gift shop with cute souvenirs.

But because of how badly really wanted to love this place, I'm going to leave a super long review with points I really think could benefit you guys if you're open to it, and really help make this place flourish! So Each room we went into was just a big empty room, with a million cluttered artifacts lining the perimeter of each room, complete with the same laminated piece of paper typed up on word, accompanying literally every single item. So if someone wanted to read every single piece of paper in here, I have no doubts it would take AT LEAST 34 hours... And it's unfortunate bc they really did have a ton of awesome items with super interesting stories attached, but everytime you walk a couple more feet around the perimeter, you're again overwhelmed with the sheer amount of clutter/things to read. So I'd really recommend to the staff to try and change the layout of this place. Ideally the rooms would be smaller, so that you aren't overwhelmed by a big empty room. Even just some kind of cheap room dividers that simulate a divided up room would work. And the 2nd biggest recommendation I have would be changing up how you present information. At the very least that means just changing the sizes of the captions you have next to items, like making some of the captions in much bigger frames, and maybe keeping some small ones, there just needs to be more of a variety to keep the scene in front of your more interesting. And maybe don't have soo many captions that were excessively long, like you could sum up the item in just a couple sentences, and then save the entire detailed story about the item just for guided tours or something. Lastly- WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU NOT LET PEOPLE USE THEIR PHONES? Don't you understand every time someone would take a pic of something in your museum and then post it on social media, that's LITERALLY FREE ADVERTISING for you! Trust me, you're only hurting yourself by not letting ppl share pics of their visit here.

There are many permanent displays about Omaha history, and there are train cars you can walk through; enthusiastic docents are often there to answer any questions. There are temporary exhibits here as well, and in the summers they will have something cool that the whole family will enjoy. There are lots of programs here, many of them free with admission or membership. I do recommend getting a membership if you think you might want to come at least a couple times in a year. And you probably will want to! There is a soda fountain/snack bar area. The ice cream is great! The food is okay. It's a museum and not a lunch destination. The museum is located right next to Omaha's Old Market.

My first visit was…read moreduring a free event honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and this most recent trip was with a group for the "Negro Motorist Green Book" exhibit. From start to finish, the experience was excellent. The museum provided discounted tickets for our nonprofit group, communicated clearly throughout the planning process, and had a tour guide ready who found us right away. That level of organization and customer care made a big difference. The exhibit itself was powerful and deeply educational, highlighting the history of the Green Book and the realities African American travelers faced during segregation. Through artifacts, photographs, and personal stories, it sparked meaningful conversations--especially among our younger visitors. I also really appreciate the museum's intentionality around inclusivity and programming. You can feel that it's a space designed to educate and welcome a wide range of audiences. The museum itself is on the smaller side, with exhibits primarily on the lower level, which actually made it manageable for our group to move through at different paces. My kids love the super long train you can walk through and the nearby play area. Practical perks matter too--there's plenty of parking (a huge plus), and they even offer umbrella strollers to borrow, which is incredibly thoughtful for families. Overall, a meaningful, well-run experience that I would absolutely recommend--whether you're visiting on your own, with family, or as part of a group.

I've been visiting the Joslyn since I was a child, and visiting as an adult brings back all those wonderful memories. The cool blue and green Storz Fountain art deco tile atrium, the amazing sculpture garden outside, and the temporary and permanent exhibits that are so thoughtfully curated. The Joslyn houses works from classic and modern artists like Monet, Basquiat, Jackson Pollock, Titian, Dale Chihuly, Bouguereau, Picasso, Renoir, Mary Cassatt, and Roy Liechtenstein, among so many more. They also feature several local artists and workshops that I think is so cool that they contribute to the local community in that way too. The Joslyn was closed for two years recently for expansion and restoration, as well as adding many more pieces of art to the collection. There are little signs on each new piece of art that says "New to the Collection" so you'll know you haven't seen that one before if you visited a lot before they closed and reopened. And what's really awesome aside from all that? It's free! I've only ever seen a museum of this caliber having free entrance in large European cities like London and Paris. You obviously are able to make a donation with your entrance, which I'm sure is encouraged to keep the museum running, but I love that it's offered freely for those who can't pay an entry fee but will benefit just like anyone else from the art housed there. I've seen comments here on Yelp saying that you can do this whole museum in 30 minutes. If you're doing that, you are absolutely doing it wrong and rushing through everything. My last visit was 3.5 hours long and I only saw two or three exhibit rooms. What's so great about this being a free museum is that you DON'T have to rush, because you can always come back later and see anything you didn't get to, in the first or second visit. With all the free things there are to do in Omaha, this has got to be at the top of the list, especially if you're an art lover!

There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance, but this is not a destination park and most people won't be traveling here just for the park. It is touted as one of the largest sculpture parks of its kind in the US. The bronze and stainless steel sculptures are the work of Blair Buswell and Edward Fraughton. They give a very life-like and accurate depiction of westward expansion with statues families and animals, with wagons, venturing into unfamiliar territory. First National Bank commissioned the large project, which was headed by landscape architect Jim Reeves. This was one of two parks that were commissioned by the Bank. The sculptures are divided into sub sections including one titled Wagon Master, which represents the wagon that guided the rest of the pioneers and was responsible for supplies and management of the group. There is also the Hunter Group, which represents the wagon trains that were responsible for hunting and providing food provisions. You will also see the Trail Boss, waving his hat in the air and a Native American sentinel . The sculptures are very detailed. You can really feel their struggle. Viewers are able to mingle about and in between the sculptures. On the back side of the sculptures is an overlook area with some cement benches and some information placards along the wall. There is also a paved walkway and a decent patch of green space that I saw some people with their dogs. This is a nice park and definitely catches your eyes, but I do not see people making this their primary destination. Most visitors, such as myself, will be passing by or on their way to another destination and then are drawn in by the magnificent sculptures. Still, it is something that you must see while in Omaha. I highly recommend checking it out.
