The Museum of Shadows was SPOOKY ASF! You can definitely feel the energy in that place, and when I tell you I prayed the ENTIRE time, I mean it! There was absolutely NOTHING that could have convinced me to step foot into the area that requires holy water. I was extra cool on that! However, I did make sure to grab me some holy water before I left! I do wish they offered guided tours instead of having you explore on your own. I feel like having someone explain the history and stories behind everything would have made the experience even better and maybe a LITTLE less terrifying! Overall, it was definitely an interesting and unforgettable experience. If you're into paranormal activity and creepy experiences, this is absolutely a place worth visiting! I REALLY wanted to love this place, as I LOVE all things paranormal, but sadly I was quite disappointed with this place, purely because of the lack of care and attention to detail. But because of how badly really wanted to love this place, I'm going to leave a super long review with points I really think could benefit you guys if you're open to it, and really help make this place flourish! So Each room we went into was just a big empty room, with a million cluttered artifacts lining the perimeter of each room, complete with the same laminated piece of paper typed up on word, accompanying literally every single item. So if someone wanted to read every single piece of paper in here, I have no doubts it would take AT LEAST 34 hours... And it's unfortunate bc they really did have a ton of awesome items with super interesting stories attached, but everytime you walk a couple more feet around the perimeter, you're again overwhelmed with the sheer amount of clutter/things to read. So I'd really recommend to the staff to try and change the layout of this place. Ideally the rooms would be smaller, so that you aren't overwhelmed by a big empty room. Even just some kind of cheap room dividers that simulate a divided up room would work. And the 2nd biggest recommendation I have would be changing up how you present information. At the very least that means just changing the sizes of the captions you have next to items, like making some of the captions in much bigger frames, and maybe keeping some small ones, there just needs to be more of a variety to keep the scene in front of your more interesting. And maybe don't have soo many captions that were excessively long, like you could sum up the item in just a couple sentences, and then save the entire detailed story about the item just for guided tours or something. Lastly- WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU NOT LET PEOPLE USE THEIR PHONES? Don't you understand every time someone would take a pic of something in your museum and then post it on social media, that's LITERALLY FREE ADVERTISING for you! Trust me, you're only hurting yourself by not letting ppl share pics of their visit here. read more

This place is freaking awesome! We are visiting from Denver and I was so excited to visit. It absolutely lived up to the hype! There were so many awesome artifacts and each item had its own notecard explaining the story. There were two of us and we used the black light flashlights and a spirit box, and it ran us $96. Price is a bit steep BUT the place was really cool and the staff is incredibly helpful and kind. The manager was giving us lots of stories on the building's history and some of the artifacts he actually helped retrieve! Such a special and fun experience, I can't recommend enough! I can see why this place has a middle of the road rating. I however felt it was a 4 star, based off my experience. First, it is a bit pricey for what they have going on, but I was curious. General admission is $20 and the UV light upgrade was $30. I opted to go with the basic, but saw someone that got the UV light while I was in the museum and they said that it was not worth it. They do not allow photos to be taken while in the museum and you must show your ID to enter. The museum does a good job setting the mood and is dimly lit. you need a flashlight, that they provide with the general admission, to read the information pages around the museum. The museum is full of doll, clowns, ouija boards that are supposedly possessed of have abnormal activity surrounding it. They are all self report, and I will admit that it was kind of creepy reading the stories of the items. The museum is two levels, the main floor and the basement. I ventured into the basement and it was extra creepy. It was a little darker, I was alone, and you heard the foot seps of the people walking on the main floor. If there was a time to make me a true believer, this was it. I am glad that I did not experience any activity or made a believer anyway. I would have wet my pants. There is an underworld section in the basement, that has a caution and they request you wash your hands with holy water before you enter and after you leave the area. Like I said, I am not sure I believe in that stuff, but they did a great job setting the table. The staff there was very nice and helpful, but this is not a thing that I would do again. It is a unique attraction and I am glad that I was able to do it once. If you do go, I would say to go in with an open mind and except the musesum for what it is. And if you are like me, do you really want to experience some activity there. I would have lost my mind if one of the dolls moved or I heard a child's laughter during my visit. read more

The "museum" has thousands of items with cards that have a paragraph explaining each item. I suppose if you believe in haunted paranormal activity, you might find it interesting. There's no way you could get through this in an hour if you read everything. There's no interaction in the museum, just simply looking at artifacts with a flashlight and reading cards. We paid $25 a person to go in. I 100% do not recommend and suggest you save your money for something different. read more

This place is the equivalent of an oddities store in your local state without the benefit of being able to purchase anything. Seems the majority of anything and everything has been donated and all the descriptions have the same verbiage. If you want patrons to think it's a descriptions given to you by the person who donated it - don't have the words 'lower realm' on all the descriptions, since no one talks like that. They have a wide array of dolls, oddities, clowns, and various things on the floor below. There's items that have been donated that a child was scared of(Children are scared of a lot of things), a 'homemade head' with plastic vampire teeth and even an orange cone that didn't even have a story other than it was on site during a fatal traffic accident. Interesting to note, that the 'homemade head' with plastic vampire teeth stated it had 'low readings' on the description but is behind a barrier stating all items have a huge connection to the 'lower realm.' How can something have low readings but have a huge connection? $15.00 is probably on the high side for this little museum, especially given the fact you can't take pictures. But that's understandably so, because if the pictures ever made it online - people probably wouldn't go visit - since the only reason you would enter is due to curiosity not because something paranormal is going to happen or come home with you. read more

It's kind of fun but I have to be honest, it is grotesquely overpriced. Their schtick is that their items are sent to them by different people with the stories already attached to them as to what their haunting, demon, metaphysical nature, energies, backstory, etc. happen to be. They will take these items off of your hands "for free" and then put them on display with the story of said item typed up on a card alongside the item. They do have some items from the Dollar Tree that they claim are hundreds of years old. They do also have some haunted house props that are claimed to be, well, "haunted" including a clown statue and a fake severed arm. This is definitely a tourist trap but they do also have some pretty cool items as well. There are no pictures allowed because people online would pick it apart mercilessly. They give you little flashlights to look at everything with. They keep the whole place dark so you can psych yourself up into believing the stories that they put on the little index cards with the items. I do like the dark setup that they use. I think it's quite clever. They also offer a UV light upgrade for another $10 per person. Don't do it, as it's a waste. They also have another $10 per person you can add to your bill if you would like to take the challenge that they have where you sit in their dark basement for 20 minutes. As I said, it is kind of fun, but it's the kind of fun that tops out at maybe $10 per person. Certainly not $20. And certainly, not $40 for the add-ons. Really, I wouldn't pay probably more than $7 per person to go. We went once and I don't regret it but once was good. read more

The museum design and layout was very underwhelming, artifacts were nailed directly into the wall ( through the artifact!) and all information was posted on plain sheets of laminated printer paper taped to the walls with no thought to presentation. No history or extra context is provided for any of the items- artifacts that are purported to be murder weapons do not list dates, locations, newspaper clippings of the crimes, really any bit of information that would be immersive and expected in an actual museum. Really every item description reads the same vague way throughout the museum. I came in with an open mind looking forward to read about spooky items and strange history, or even fanciful if not particularly true scary stories but the lack of effort in the entire museum destroyed my suspension of disbelief and really did not impress. read more

***Just a heads up you are NOT allowed to take photos or use your phone once you enter the exhibit rooms*** This was the most interesting thing I've done in a while since ghost hunting in Jerome, AZ. They have quite a few "packages" to pick from so I did the regular one for $15. They give you a flashlight and the option to rent some ghost hunting electronics for an additional charge I believe. They have quite the collection of Ouija Boards, dolls, random items, and some clowns (I wasn't ready for the clowns seeing as they terrify me), so just so you know they do have a cute little collection of clown dolls! I do want to go back again to try the 10 minutes in the dark challenge when I'm a little braver. Highly recommend visiting if you are into this kinda stuff. read more

We were so excited to visit the Museeum of Shadows! We planned this little trip months in advance. We were visiting from Kansas City and we're stoked to check out this little place. We didn't really know what to expect. I read online that you could do a self guided tour for $15 during the day or you could pay $40 for a Ghost Hunt tour at night. We did the ghost hunt that started at 10pm on a Friday. We arrived a little early to check in. They asked us if we were interested in doing a sit challenge for $10 per person. The sit challenge is when you are left alone in the basement with all lights off for ten minutes. They also offered us ghost hunting equipment. Midway through the hunt, I decided to rent an EMF reader which ended up costing $20 for the duration of the tour. In my opinion, I think this is super overpriced. $40 for the ghost hunt plus all the extras. Ends up being a pretty pricey evening if you want to rent things. Once we walked through the doors for the tour, we were kind of expecting it to be a tour.. I would think that they would tell us some information on some of the haunted items. Instead, it was almost like we were expected to know what to do or who the most haunted doll was. All in all, it was pretty cool but I don't think I would want to come back for the ghost hunt. Makes me wonder what the daytime tour is like. P.S. They don't let you take any photos at all. Again, I think this is totally odd. My husband is a huge skeptic. My 15 year old is skeptical unless it's personal (he had some experiences after his friend passed away). My 17 year old is a paranormal believer (and gullible). And I'm a mix between a chicken yet skeptic but a believer. So it's not really the mix the museum wants to attract! "One of the most haunted museums in the world!" is a huge red flag to me so I didn't have much of an open mind. Needless to say, no one witnessed anything and we were laughing about how fake it was. Maybe it was fake because we're too skeptical. Might be better for actual believers. We did the ten minute challenge with nothing happening. Of course we didn't give the spirits a chance since we weren't trying. Still spooky to me...because I'm a chicken. The museum said most people don't last ten minutes. Some lasts 40 seconds. I find that hard to believe. Maybe the spirits were just scared of us? Wasn't worth it for my husband. Dim red lights light the area and you use a provided small flashlight to walk around. Artifacts with index cards telling about item and supposedly haunted condition. If you like haunted stuff, then the $20 is worth it. No pictures allowed. I came prepared with a little bit brighter light. All in all I liked it and enjoyed the experience. I'm going back! Believe in it or not, it's still a pretty interesting place. I only did the self guided tour. Each artifact has its own card with a quick story. I also did one of the sit challenges. Which was really cool and interesting. I'm still trying to figure out what I heard and saw. I'm an openminded skeptic so my mind is trying to debunk but no luck so far. They do have a small gift shop but t the things I was wanting they wee sold out. The owners were wonderful and very welcoming. Big things are coming there way and I'm really happy for them. when they become big and famous, I can't wait to say I met them in person. I hope to go back to go on a tour. We went on a Friday around 3:30. Lots of parking. A lot the stores do close early. They are on little town schedule closing around 6:pm. I do encourage to shop in the stores. read more

After paying our money ($25 apiece including two black light flashlights to "detect blood (and/or DNA)" on the objects displayed, we crossed the threshold into the world of the occult and other...things. The moment we were inside a room filled with dolls, a coffin, clown figures, and even the authentic autopsy report and post mortem X-rays of a guy shot "thirteen times" when he attacked a cop, I started to feel a tingle in my lower back. Expecting to soon be overcome by great apprehension and even nightmare-fueled fear, I began looking at the dolls, all accompanied by chilling back-stories of why their owners had donated them to the museum. Pretty soon the tingling in my lower back became a throb so intense I stopped to try and figure out what it was. And then it struck me. The cash that had left my wallet was calling from the world beyond with an angry message: "You dumb bunny. You just got suckered!" Hey. If you're a budding paranormal investigator or even addicted to Ghost Hunters, this may be the place for you. But being told the cheap black light I rented for $10 would detect DNA almost made me laugh out loud. A former DNA specialist for the crime lab in my county also laughed at that. "It might detect material that contains DNA," he said. "But what you see could just as easily be any other kind of fluid, even the dyes used in certain cleaning materials. Cops sometimes use black lights at crime scenes to find suspected bodily fluids but it takes far more sophisticated lab equipment to detect DNA." We left, passing on the chance to see more macabre stuff downstairs. We also passed on renting a "ghost box" radio frequency detector and other tools of the ghost hunting trade. As we walked out, however, four more patrons were signing up for all that stuff. read more

This place isn't convincing to me. Anyone can gather a bunch of scary and/or pagan looking artifacts, concoct a bunch of fake backstories for each item, and pass them off as being haunted or possessed; I don't see anything that's legitimately "haunted" about the place. I even took the 20-minute challenge where you sit underground in darkness for the entire duration; what a pathetic waste of my time and money... that's 20 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. I didn't experience any truly paranormal phenomenons throughout this entire experience. I heard some noises but I firmly believe it was the noise of a small animal because for one I was deep underground and for two the feet sounded more like pitter-patter sounds than human feet. Overall, I got ripped off from coming into the place to look, and also for taking the dumb challenge as well. The hosts tell you to listen for ghostly voices and/or noises but it's impossible when they have a radio in the store that has an obnoxiously loud loop of "ring around the rosie" playing over and over again. What I find funny is that there is an artifact that states if you listen closely you may hear the words "ring around the rosie" uttered by a ghost - I wouldn't be able to tell if it's coming from an actual ghost or from that stupid loop because that loop is so damn loud. I'm giving it 3 stars because some people might really enjoy it, but it is barely worth that in my opinion. Were there some creepy things? Yes. Anyone or place that has more than 3 dolls should be labeled creepy to begin with. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read the other posts. DO NOT SPEND an extra $10 on the black light, complete waste of money. And if you are lucky to be near a group of people with the additional 'ghost box', expect them to irritate you throughout. For the extra money they should throw in some headphones. Any avid fan will probably be entertained by some of the items, $20 worth? Totally up to you. Keep in mind no pictures are allowed, so anything you want to share with your friends and family will have to be done from word of mouth only. Overall, it's eh. Actually, after going through it I think I believe less in the paranormal, so take that for what it's worth. For owners of the MoS, I did have an idea. I've been to Museum of Shadows twice now. Plattsmouth is a bit more convenient for me than their previous location. The first visit was fun. We were actually the only two people in there my first time. It is fairly dark inside and they have creepy music playing. We paid our $15 admission fee and were given a couple of flashlights and a brief history of the building and the museum. I like learning about the museum before we started looking around. We noticed there was a monitor behind their admission desk, and when inquired we were told it was a live feed of the basement. They told us you could do a "20 Minute Challenge" where if you could stay down in the basement for 20 minutes with the lights off, you would win some type of ghost meter. We were told that people have heard disembodied voices and laughing, even some have experienced a touch. As much as I wanted to do this, the person that went with me refused. I tried to talk her into it but she wanted nothing to do with it, so we spent our time looking at the artifacts and reading the stories behind them. It's not a huge place, but they have many items. One room is dedicated only to creepy dolls, and reading the stories of each was fun. We probably spent about an hour there before I felt I didn't want to see much more. On my second visit, a few weeks later, my goal was to do the "20 Minute Challenge" because my sister really wanted to do it as well. This visit was way different. Both owners were there this time and were taking the admission money. They place was very busy, and we were rushed in without given any history of the museum which would have been cool for my sister to hear. We told them right away we wanted to do the 20 minute challenge in case we needed to get on the waiting list. They then informed us it would cost us an additional $10 each. Hmmm...not what I was told the first time. Okay no biggie, we paid up. I asked the owner about the ghost meter that we would win if we didn't "tap out" of the challenge early. He looked at me oddly and said we didn't win anything. I said that's what I was told my last visit, and he said, "Oh...those people don't work here anymore. You just win bragging rights." Okay fine...we weren't in it for the ghost meter anyway. While we waited for our time slot to open up we looked around a bit. It was just so busy it wasn't enjoyable. People and kids running around with some types of ghost meters, holding them up to all the objects to see if they would buzz. Annoying really. Made me feel like it was more of a circus with all the beeping and buzzing going off. Almost made me feel like it was all fake. Anyway our time comes up to do the challenge. We were each given a flashlight that we could use to turn on which would mean we "tap out". The owner took us into the unfinished basement (dirt floor and brick walls) to a smaller room that had a scary looking mask and also a doll that he said were both haunted. He told us that earlier a "fully armed police man only lasted 12 minutes." While I know that was meant to scare us, the "fully armed" part made little sense to me. The room had one regular chair with a back, and one high bar stool with no back. He told us if we stood up at any time, or turned on our flashlights, then we are disqualified and they will come down to get us. (This makes no sense if we are not doing it for a prize. Disqualified for what? )We looked at him and asked if he had another chair with a back. If it was going to be pitch black and we are to sit on a high bar stool with no back it was going to be uncomfortable to not move for 20 minutes. He told us that was the only chairs they had. What?!? A folding chair would have been fine, so not sure how hard it would be for them to get a second normal chair. After we both started discussing how difficult the bar stool would be, he then told us they DID have a better chair before but "a large person broke it." OY!! My sister said I could have the chair with the back, and she ended up sitting on a piece of dusty concrete on the dirt floor. Long story short...nothing happened. In fact when he came to get us we couldn't believe it was 20 minutes, and when my sister checked her watch is was indeed only 15 minutes after he left us alone. We brought that up and he insisted that they set a timer and it was 20 minutes. Maybe... if they set the time the moment they told us we were up next for the challenge. Not sure about this place. Second visit was way different than the first. Do I believe in ghosts/spirits - sure! Do I believe they are in this building - maybe, but on both visits I didn't encounter anything. I went in here to check it out with wife and son. When you walk in you here a loop playing over and over and over singing ring around the Rosie's. Then proceeded to counter where we were charged 25 dollars a piece which is 75 dollars for 3 admission fees. We walked around looking at artifacts they claim are haunted or possessed which I saw no proof of. Then after we looked around they managed to talk my son to a challenge of sitting on chair in dark basement for 20 more dollars with admission fees totals 95 dollars. These guys are Con Artists because anyone can rent or buy some old place, buy a bunch of old artifacts and claim their haunted or possessed which they done. Was led into a room by the rude hosts "the owners" and had a nice sit down kindergarten lesson on how the lady can just wave her phone around and say things about ghost but show us nothing. Along with them being rude after critiquing the tour after sitting around for 2 hrs. Only thing I got in the end was some plugged up sinuses from all the dust and seeing the decayed brothel upstairs with a decaying bird on the floor. Owner walked past it and did nothing about it. Each item contains a small paragraph outlining where they came from and why, kinda like a minim ghost story. Either you like that kind of thing, or you don't. If you don't, then bypass this place because you'll be disappointed. Regardless do NOT pay for the UV flashlight for an extra 10. That's robbery and what you see isn't necessarily "blood or DNA" cause that's a scam. I didn't pay for the "ghost hunt" or to stay in the basement in the dark. I have been to the Museum of Shadows 2 times now, once for a daytime self guided tour ($20), once for a 2 hour ghost hunt ($40). It's a great place and they have tons of interesting stuff. I would 100% recommend going for a tour. but the ghost hunt is a bit overpriced for what you get. They basically promise spirit activity and all you get it some machine lighting up a couple times. nothing too exciting. I was there from 10pm-12am and every other group that was there with us left early because they were bored. However. the daytime tour is fun. read more

I'm giving this place a four star rating based on the historical aspects of the place and the descriptive tours by the owner. I really enjoyed learning about the history of the building in Plattsmouth and I also loved looking at the historical artifacts that they have in the museum, especially some of the pieces they found in the museum building itself. I enjoyed seeing Ayda, the haunted doll. My son got to participate in the basement challenge where you sit in the basement in complete darkness for 20 minutes with a haunted mask. I was able to watch him the entire time from a night vision monitor upstairs. It was pretty fun and he won a laser pen for ghost hunting. The only thing I didn't like at the museum was the looping music "ring around the rosey" where you are in the haunted doll room, but the only thing you can hear is that music over and over again, looping and a bit too loud. If there were any haunted objects moving, you wouldn't hear it. There was a haunted artifact with a card that said you might hear "ring around the rosey" if you were by it, but I would pass on the music. I have not been there yet to their new Death room. Also I missed their event where you could watch a scary movie with Ayda because I had to work, but I hope they have more of the scary movie events in the future. I'm glad this place is actually in Plattsmouth now instead of Elmwood. It's much more accessible to customers. read more

Honestly , I like the paranormal , but wasn't expecting this place to be so amazing ! It is HUGE, 3 levels. The staff and owners were SUPER friendly and welcoming. I asked a lot of questions and people were so gracious and kind with their answers. I ALSO did a ghost hunt here. It was intense. SUPER ACTIVE. I travel all over the us going on tours and ghost hunts and this place by FAR is the most active. I even been to a few places in Iowa that have been on tv, and nothing ......, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place to any paranormal lover or just anyone interested in the history. JUST AWSOME. Paranormal hot spot - Went with some co workers and this place is AWESOME!!! We did the 10 min sit challenge and heard footsteps walking towards us! My friends shirt got pulled! All 7 of us seen an apparition of a lady dressed in white period clothing and walk into a wall. I highly recommend going it's a must!! We are going back this Friday!! read more
