I was so excited to stumble across KANEKO while strolling through the Old Market over the weekend. I didn't quite know what I was walking into but I did know that it was free :) Essentially, KANEKO is a free art gallery open to the public! I had a fun time checking out their current exhibits. One was a collection from sculptural artists and the other featured artwork from local students. The space is really cool and they seem to offer several art programs and events. I'm looking forward to stopping back in when a new exhibition is up.

This was my first time visiting after seeing the ad for the new exhibit focusing on autism-sensitive themed art pieces. I have worked with kids with autism for years so I wanted to see their take on sensory focused art. First of all, this venue is FREE. What a welcomed gem to have in our growing city of arts. The only thing to pay for is parking in either meters outside or the garage lot across the street. Second, the space is HUGE and open for all kinds of displays to rotate in and out of - I am so happy to have visited. Now for specifically the Common Sense festival arts display. It aims to meet all 5 of the senses in an autism/sensory sensitive environment way which I believe it does in wonderful fashion. It includes a 360degree nature movie with beanbag chairs, a unique audio experience, a sensory "car wash" and sensory bin area for younger kids, a quiet room to de-stress for sensory overload, a touch and feel sensory "gym" and a light room where you can change the color and brightness of the whole room. I brought my 3 year old son (not on the spectrum) who really enjoyed the experience as well. I'm very impressed with the thoughtful design of this gallery and appreciate those who took the time to invest in it. Thank you! (I wish I had more pictures, sorry!)

This little gem is hidden away from the public in downtown Omaha. A friend of a friend of a friend recommended this place since I was in town visiting so we went for a look. First of all, it's free. That's right!! Modern art and oddities, interactive 3D exhibits, and guided tours if you like, all FREE. I was nervous at first with my two small children but there was plenty of run around space and only one room had floor exhibits that were untouchable. Great experience for families of all ages and highly recommend to everyone!!

This is an extremely interesting venue for various art mediums. My family recently enjoyed the light exhibit. It was amazing. Such an experience for the young and old. Get in line for the main event, black and white room, first. We ended up being turned away after waiting in line for a while bc they were going to close soon. You don't want to end up like the Grizwalds at Wallyworld!

I was at Kaneko for The New Harmonic: (Ben Phelp's) Six Ways to be Alone, Directed by Vimbayi Kaziboni (a Millard West grad) which was packed into Space 6 (the NE second floor), in fact there were probably more people standing than they had chairs. This room had better acoustics than I would have ever expected. Unfortunately they were in the middle of a change in exhibits, from Olson Kundig to Fiber, and only a few pics came out any good to try to explain this space. From the outside this place still feels like Jobbers Canyon, even Jones St feels like ti is over 100 years old, but once you get inside you are in a different world. You can tell that a lot of attention has been given to creating museum space, letting in just enough natural light to make the place feel warm and non-industrial. I really had no idea how much of a gem this place has turned into, I hope to be back real soon!

Free Art Date Night! We stopped into the Lights exhibit. Unfortunately the top floor was closed but the lower level that we saw was very cool. Give us some wine and that extra star is yours! Comfortable and clean building with courteous staff. Great experience just wish there was more to see. Until next time Art!

Stunning art with breath taking descriptions on how the sculptures are made. A tour through Jun's private collection, a view of the largest Kiln in the world and stories from the coworkers that work at Jun's studio. Magnificent night with more than jaw dropping memories.
