The website stated drop off at 72nd and Dodge. The ticket via email stated a drop off at 13th and Jackson. I called to get a refund before the trip because I did feel safe being dropped off there. I was told they would get back to me in 3 to 5 days regarding a refund. No surprise no refund. I do not recommend this company. read more

On my way to a business trip to Indiana, I decided to visit my son in Yankton SD [he is a Mount Marty student]. I decided to fly into Omaha and rent a car to drive up to Yankton [great call on my Budget Rent A Car who suggested I upgrade to a hybrid. My gas bill was under $25 and drove over 300 miles]. Anyways, I need to get to Chicago where a I was getting a ride into Fort Wayne IN with one of my fellow meeting attendants. I found that the MegaBus was the cheapest way to get there. I had read a lot about the service and had once sent my son from Riverside CA to Las Vegas to catch his flight to school. For $20 I had a very comfortable run [I took the redeye which leaves Omaha at 10 pm and gets to Chicago at 7 am]. The ride is comfortable, there are plug ins, WiFi [although very slow] and clean bathrooms on board. The drivers were OK and I was glad I spent the extra $3 bucks on getting a premium down stairs seat. I actually picked a table seat so I had my iPad and iPhone hooked up and charging. Most people around me slept and snored away for most of the drive. I could not sleep but that was more me than the ride. There were a few oddballs on board but most of them were in the cheaper upstairs seats. If I had one complaint is that the pick up area has no signage or info to let you know where to pick up the bus. Luckily, while I was returning my rental car an hour earlier, I saw another MegaBus stop at a very nondescript bench so I knew where to go. Otherwise, I could have been walking around a mall, all night long. I tried looking online but I could get anything more than the Mall. Not, the southbound side of whatever near the parking lot. They should invest in a few signs!!! I would definitely ride this again. read more

Megabus offers bus transportation from Omaha to Chicago, and I decided to make the 9+ hour journey from Chicago to Omaha overnight. The bus stop is located behind the Target and across the street from a Walgreens store. Ten minutes before the scheduled departure time, Megabus sent me an email stating that the bus was running late and would be departing 20-30 minutes after scheduled time. Travelers were advised to remain at the bus stop. An hour passed by, and we received an email stating the bus would be arriving in 10-15 minutes. It was a cold and dark night in Omaha, but there was a large group of travelers and I felt safe with them. Our bus arrived after 11:00 p.m., and we departed Omaha an hour and a half post-scheduled departure time. The bus makes its first stop in Des Moines, then Iowa City. There are two 15-minute and one 30-minute breaks during the 9+hour journey. The bus stops at a Love's convenience store/gas station attached to a McDonald's and Subway. You can pick up food and use the bathroom here. The bus ride was smooth, but there was an additional 15-minute break during the travel leg than there was going from Chicago to Omaha. And, we hit rush hour traffic. We arrived in Chicago 2 hours post-scheduled arrival time. Megabus offered to reschedule travelers' connections with other Megabus routes when we arrived in town. Fortunately for me, I was just late to work, but we had people connecting to Cincinnati that missed their bus. Overall, this was an OK trip. If you can handle delays, especially ones with some upfront warning (Megabus email alerts), then this is the best value in travel from Omaha to Chicago. My other Megabus trips to and from Chicago have gone more smoothly, so I will be a repeat customer. read more

UPDATE: I've taken somewhere between 20 and 30 legs on Megabus. This summer, on a trip from Chicago to Omaha, the bus' air conditioning went out, and we were about two and a half hours late getting into Omaha. Contacted Megabus and have a voucher for future travel...my ticket was only $1, so a refund wouldn't have been worth it. Still keeping my four stars, because the bus driver had a great demeanor during that trip, and the rest of my trips have been without incident. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm on a BUS! Well, I was, anyways. A couple weekends ago, I went up to Milwaukee, taking Megabus on the OMA - CHI route (ultimately going to MKE on Greyhound Express due to a lower last-minute cost.) Here are my thoughts on the Megabus on this route. First, parking. Oh, better stated, the lack thereof. Megabus stops on the side of the road (in this case, at the Crossroads Mall in Omaha), but there's no overnight parking close by. I ultimately went to Walmart and parked there for two nights and walked there (and took the city bus back.) Timing-wise, it was virtually on-time. The bus was three minutes late coming into Omaha, but we got into Chicago about 20 minutes early (the bus driver used the toll road in.) Coming out, we left on time, but since the bus driver took the "free" road, it took a bit longer (also thanks to construction) and we got back about 5 minutes late to Omaha. Still, can't complain about that. Other than that, it was actually a pretty nice ride. The bus drivers seemed to have a sense of humor, which was nice. The boarding process was relatively easy, and there was a guy in Chicago helping people find their bus (which was helpful, because they never changed the sign on our bus.) The wifi never worked, but the power outlets did. In terms of seating, it was a standard charter bus, very clean. The people that I was riding with were friendly, especially before boarding. I chatted with a few of them (as we were all just on the side of the road waiting for the bus) and they all were pleasant and friendly. So happy that Megabus is in LINCOLN NE now! You all should know how comfortable, safe and easy traveling by Megabus is. I've been using it for several years a couple times a year at least. The double deckers are good but the Lincoln-Chicago route is run by Windstar, the same buses you might have for a luxury charter.. The drivers are contracted through Windstar. Megabus has a good solid crew also but the drivers on this line are a step above: terrific. I love Vanessa! She said she was formerly a school bus driver and you can tell, she is very professional and caring, seems to go out of her way to help people but she is all about business and getting us there ON TIME! If you have flexible travel dates and go on the computer to check you could end up like me and snag a ONE DOLLAR one way far, I've done so several times. Even full price tops out at 59 or so, less than gas if you drove. And if you drove you wouldn't have wifi all the way...and a bathroom on board. You are let off in a central downtown location close to all forms of transit. Please take a Megabus so we keep this route going! No travel experience is easy but this is the most affordable comfortable way to get to Des Moines, Iowa City and Chicago other than driving yourself! Travel Tip: BRING FOOD. stops are short and on Sundays some of the places are shut down. read more

This company is a joke. If you have to deal with Customer Service you should save your time you will get no where. They do NOT care about customer service they just want your money. It's sad that we have to give up good customer service to save a few dollars on a ticket! read more

The bus was huge. We sat on the upper level of a double decker to and from. Our seats were front row, we actually took up the whole row. This made it comfy for us to lie down, stretch and relax. From Omaha to Chicago it was flawless. The bus had minor trouble that the bus drivers fixed quickly. However, the comfort of the bus made up for it. From Chicago to Omaha, that was a completely different experience. To begin with when loading our luggage I took my fiance's bag so she could grab our seats. The attendant loading the bags challenged me in a rude way saying immediately that I could not load 2 bags that only one bag was allowed per person. I told him that my fiance was already seated and that I was loading her bag for her. He said it just like this, "mannnnnnn! Ive been watching you and you have been standing by yourself and you have no fiance with you." Again, I stayed very calm and repeated my statement. He said (just like this, "well then your going to have to show me 2 tickets then or else one bag is not going to Omaha!" I said that's not a problem and I have no reason much less effort to lie to you about a bag. So I got my fiances ticket and I said here you go. He looked at them and said (just like this,) "mannnnn these are two tickets that have the same number." I said no way look at them closely. He goes, "I am." I knew they were different ticket numbers but to satisfy him I said, "well let me go get my ipad that my fiance is holding so I can show you the emails with the different confirmation numbers." He said, (just like this;) "you know what, just forget it I'll take the bag." What an asshole! A complete ASSHOLE! I went up and sat with my fiance and soon noticed him standing outside looking at us smoking a cigarette and talking on his cell. He must of been having a bad night! On the way back to Omaha from Chicago, the bus driver was obviously tired. He was swerving in and out of his lane. He kept on running over the road bumps that make the vehicle vibrate and sound real loud. It was a little scary. Then to add when we were headed to one of our mid stops in Iowa, he ran a red light. Yep he did, no joke. My fiance was asleep and I didn't want to tell her about it in fear that she would panic or just be too scared. When we arrived to Omaha and were in our car headed home I told her about the bus driver and she was like.... "yeah, I noticed it too. It woke me up several times." Megabus is a low-cost, budget-minded option. It is the Motel 6 of transportation. That being said, you don't go to a Motel 6 and expect room service, valet parking, and a mint on your pillow. The same is true of Megabus. I took a trip from Omaha to Chicago overnight and then came back during the day a few days later. I followed them on twitter for announcements of when they're booking for my dates and ended up getting the $1 tickets each way. So it was $2.50 round trip ($.50 reservation fee). I thought it was just fine for what it is. It was easy to find. The bus was a few minutes early. Loading took a while but it's a 80-some passenger bus. Of course it takes a while. Just like loading an airplane. It was easy though. I sat up top and the ride was very smooth. The driver had just enough communication so that you knew what was going on and how long it was between stops, etc. We also arrived in Chicago about half an hour early. The wi-fi on the way there didn't work but they apologized for that. On the way back the bus was competing for space on the block near Union Station with about 3 other megabuses but it was easy enough to see which was which. Loading actually took less time than I would've expected. Wi-fi worked on the way back, but it was sketchy at best. This doesn't really bother me though because a) they say that on their website and b) it's a moving bus -- I'm amazed they can offer it at all. We arrived back about 20 minutes late but really, that's not uncommon when traveling. Even when traveling in your own vehicle. Stuff happens, traffic is worse or better. As for parking, I just had someone drop me off in Omaha, then in Chicago I took public transportation to and from. They can be so cheap because they don't have to pay to own/maintain their own parking lots. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because it's not really a five-star service kinda deal. If you're a complainer or are easily displeased/need the finer comforts in life, go pay more at a different company. Don't blame Megabus for your unrealistic standards. I liked it. read more

Know this ahead of time: there is no long-term parking nearby! The Crossroads parking garage nearby the bus stop actually has a sign saying something along the lines of "No Megabus parking. You will be towed." The bus to Chicago was an HOUR AND A HALF late to to pick up and we reached the destination TWO HOURS late. We sat in the heat for a long time wondering if the bus was ever going to show up. It's hard to find a cheaper deal to get from Omaha to Chicago, but you definitely get what you pay for. Let me set the scene for you. You are a young twenty something looking to get back to your residence in Chicago on a late Sunday night. You have booked a ticket aboard one "Megabus". The quotations here are ironic. The experience I have partaken in within the last 4 hours has been ANYTHING but Mega. Allow me to continue. You have had a lovely weekend in town with your friends, and you are ready to take the long trip back from whence you came. You arrive. It is raining. You roll your suitcase up and approach the bus driver to inquire about the ticketing process, as you seem to have misplaced your pre-purchased ticket aboard his vehicle. He informs you gruffly that there is not a name list and you need a code in order to get on. You take out your cellular device and try to pull up the email, only to be shunted off the bus and into the rain. As you struggle to load this all important email faster, the door to your would-be chariot is shut unceremoniously in your face. Kicked to the curb and rejected by what would have been your only chance to get home in a timely manner, you return a broken shell of the person you once were to your friend's abode, and proceed to purchase a SECOND ticket aboard the Benedict Arnold Bus. In short FUCK the Megabus. I ride it because I am poor and have few alternatives but if you're looking for an experience that leaves you feeling well-rested, and content with the cosmos as a whole, consider booking pretty much ANYTHING else. Like literally if you can hitchhike you might want to do that. It'll probably be a friendlier experience than that of this foul double-storied trickster-mobile. read more

I rode this bus for the first time last year. I had never been on a bus like this before and stepped onto it as there was no one at the door to greet me. The bus driver passive aggressively yelled over the speaker "if you didn't talk to me before sitting down, you better get back out here if you want to be riding this bus." I promptly walked out and apologized, saying it was my first time riding and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. She grouchily said "Yeah and your generation is supposed to be our future. Pfft." I don't care how cheap these tickets are. My next trip to Iowa, I simply drove so that I wouldn't have to be publicly humiliated again. read more

Megabus refused to return my money after double-charging my credit card for the same trip. After emailing them, they repeatedly sent standard replies that simply parroted their policy about canceling reservations (which is not what happened in my case). No one there bothered to read my detailed explanation. I know of no other company that charges customers twice and refuses to refund them to make it right, at least any that stays in business for long. Horrible customer service! read more

First off, the divers and personel of Mbus are first rate. Our driver from Chi to Omaha met up with a jacknifed semi on our way back and had the detour routing well in hand, barely affected our time. In Chi, the manager was curbside and gave me good directions to get downtown. My problem is with the bus itself. They advertise "modern fleet", but I felt every bump and crack in the pavement between on the hiway. My knees hurt from constantly being pressed againt the seats in front of me-not enough leg room. The bus rattled and vibrated constantly-my family car is quieter. Some how they have managed to make the seats JUST the right size and configuration that you cannot get comfortable. Either an armrest is in your kidneys or you're bumping your knees against the seat in front. The seatbacks taper at the top so if your head rolls to the side as you nod off, it falls into a gap. Seat and back cushions are over firm. I'm thinkin the low price ($2.50 in my case) is supposed to balance this out. FWIW-I am AVERAGE height and wt. Summary-Good staff, good people, not so much the busses;on board Wifi nice, when it works, AC plug ins a good idea. @ Jeb R. -you can use the Crossroads parking structure to leave your car., it has patrols. Consider this-if it said Greyhound instead of Megabus, would you be as thrilled? read more

The bus was 5 3/4 hours late...supposed to arrive at 10:30pm...arrived at 4:15 am. It was 9 degrees and there was no shelter. The bus initially arrived at 2:15...left the customers on 72nd street in Omaha to get gas...and returned 2 HOURS later with a different driver. We were huddled in a stairwell of a parking garage in 9 degree weather for hours...got my ticket reimbursed but had to spend that much on a cab to get to my flight on time in Chicago due to the delay. read more

This was my first time on Megabus. My Chicago trip started off on a bad note. The bus was a half hour late and it was freezing in Omaha that day. When the passengers complained about the late start the driver stated he was not late and then allowed passengers to go pick-up anything they needed from the Walgreens across the street. That made our start 45 min late. He was a little rude and insisted we call him Mr. Bus driver. He would not give his name when asked. There was only one rest stop between Omaha and Chicago where we could wash our hands and use a real restroom, We arrived in Chicago about 45 minutes late. However this was nothing compared to the ride back. When I got to Union Station at 10:15 for the 11:15 return bus to Omaha, about 30-40 people were standing out side in negative temperatures waiting for a 8pm Bus. That bus had either left early or never showed. It was so cold that Megabus had a waiting bus that passengers could board to wait. We were packed in like sardines. Some passengers had to wait at Union Station, and in the money machine kiosk. Then I over heard a lot of the passengers talking about buses being late. Someone finally asked the Megabus employee sitting behind the wheel of the bus what was going on, he replied I don't know how late the buses will be. After that he ignored all other question put to him. He was extremely rude. When the buses finally started to arrive most were about 1 1/2 hours late. The guy loading the luggage said no one would be able to take any carryons on the bus due to lack of space and that if you didn't present your luggage as requested he would not load the S**T. Once we were allowed to board the driver funneled everyone upstairs. The entire lower level was empty. So there was plenty of room for carryons. There was one lady who was overweight and could not make it up the stairs. So she was allowed to sit on the main floor of the bus with her 2 travel companions. There were 2 drivers, 1 trainee and his trainer. The trainee was a nice guy. The trainer cussed and made rude comments during our entire trip back. We arrived in Omaha at 10:15 am. There were about 15-20 people waiting for the next bus. I wished them luck on their trip. It was such a terrible experience I won't ever use their service again. There don't seem to be any standards of care. Customers should never be ridiculed and treated with such disrepect by employees in a service industry. Megabus should have mystery riders on their buses to witness these abuses and failures in service so they can correct them. I won't recommend their service to anyone. read more
