I . Was in Chicago for the weekend. Prior to arriving I read an article about the top 100 coffee shops in the world. ( see link below ). While reading I saw that Metric in Chicago was on the list. And that was the sign this place had to be a must try! Came here on a Saturday morning. I walked a few miles from downtown to the neighborhood this place is in. It is in an industrial part town of area. Kind of reminds me of the west bank of the flats area or temont type of area we have in Cleveland. The shop itself is not very big. However the coffee, is absolutely incredible. While there I met Cara . She was so friendly and knowledgeable. I mentioned that the reason for making the walk to this place was to see how it measured with award of top 100 shop. From there I got my espresso. Amazing. Just amazing! Cara also took the time explain the cupping process. And how Metric gets their beans. The educational experience for a coffee nerd like myself was . And then getting a chance to do the cupping was icing on the cake!!! I'm very glad that I got to experience this gem of a shop. I truly understand why it's top . Amazing coffee spot in Chicago- we went there after learning they are in the top 100 list of coffee shops in the world. It did not disappoint! The lemongrass squash loaf was excellent- so lemony and light. The pain au chocolat was also perfect. You can tell the coffee is super fresh because they roast it onsite. I also love that they don't up charge for different milk options. They also have a lot of tea and seasonal drink options as well! They had matcha, chai and London Fog. The seating is located outside so the shop is mostly order, grab your drink and go. But it was so nice to sit outside in the morning on a warm day. Service was also great! No complaints. read more

I came here for a warm and cozy drink on a winter day. Its a small coffee shop where you can pick up coffee. Keep in mind there aren't any seats, except in the summer their small patio area is available for sitting. Otherwise it's meant to be a pick up spot. I was in the mood for something sweet so I got a seasonal winter drink, the maize mocha. It was good and not too sweet, but definitely very pricey for what it was. For $10 I guess I don't know what I was hoping for. I do think that it's probably best to try their standard coffees, which is better priced and what they're known for. Take out only, which I had not anticipated. My drink was priced at $10, not overly friendly -- quintessential hipster vibes in the not great way. They experiment with flavors I haven't seen in other mainstream coffee roasteries, my drink had corn milk and I think clove in it, for example (maybe explains the price?). It was great bc I could come on my bike with my dog. I just ordered an almond milk latte. Easily one of my favorite coffee shops I visited in Chicago. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and their selection of pourovers is top-tier. I ordered their geisha pourover, and it was amazing. The balance of flavor notes was spot on. I liked it so much I ended up buying a bag, and they threw in a free drip to go with it. I like coffee I don't drink it everyday.I'm a fan of the TV show called the Bear. Metric coffee is in some episodes and when I found out I said to myself I should try this coffee. There's a normal menu and a summer menu. I went with the espresso cream soda. There's espresso, vanilla syrup, some kind of soda water. Might have been topo Chico or another kind of carbonated water. I was pleased with this coffee beverage. I've had espresso tonics from other coffee shops when it's warm out. I like the espresso cream soda because it's little sweeter compared to espresso Tonic. It is small in there but line doesn't move too slowly. Some folks are complaining about lack of parking. I have good news. About a year ago CTA opened a green line stop at Damen and it's a very quick walk. Also some bus stops not terribly far. read more

This place has been hyped up to me by my brother in law for a while. We tried to come last year but it was closed for Labor Day. Got to try it finally, and I'll say it was a cool spot for sure. Didn't blow me away but I think it had just been too hyped up in my head. The vibe is cool inside but it's small and more of a grab and go kind of place it seems. There is seating outside but I'm not sure if sitting outside is a good move very often. I just got an iced latte, and I definitely feel like I need to go back and try something different to give a complete review, since my order might be skewing my opinion. There is more to the flavor profile, but you should try it for yourself. It's a very good seasonal drink and the cardamom is blended well in this drink as to not be overwhelming. My favorite coffee in the city. I come here at least once a week to get my fix. The iced lattes are excellent. I think they make their syrups in house and they are so delicious. I've also taken bags of coffee to make at home and it's great for my morning coffee. They have an assortment of baked goods available. The horchatta donut is a standout. Service is always great. I was in the area for lunch this past Sunday and Metric Coffee was only a 10 minute walk away. There are lots of seating outside (I don't think there's interior seating) and the inside definitely looked like a coffee snob's dream. The barista wasn't the most friendly, but he was still helpful when I asked him for suggestions. SINGLE ORIGIN FLIGHT - 9 The flight comes with a single origin espresso and pour over. I don't remember which single origin roast I got for my espresso, but it was enjoyable without too much bitterness. Sipping lightly on it allowed me to taste the notes well. I got the Ethiopian roast for my pour over. I felt like I was just drinking water with some light hints of juicy notes. Even my friends who don't drink black coffee regularly felt like they were drinking hot water. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the quality of the pour over. If I'm ever in town, I'd like to give Metric a try again. read more

I am so sorry, but this coffee was not good. I am no expert, but I do ship my coffee in directly from small farms in the Caribbean and have perfected my expresso game at home. I got 2 different espresso drinks today at Metric and both were terrible. At first I thought they made a mistake with mine, but then tasted my partners. It's seems as though there reviews are mixed and I am not the only one that feel a the same way. Definitely try it for yourself but then branch out and try others. One of their social media ad's actually influenced me to come here. The video was showing them making one of their spring coffee drinks and it made me eager to check them out. Metric Coffee is located a few blocks from the edge of the West Loop and in a more industrial type setting. It wasn't hard to find a free spot to park my car on the street. I visited here for the first time on a Saturday morning around 9:30am. There were about 3 or 4 people ahead of me in line and the wait wasn't too bad. There isn't currently a place to sit down inside. They sell several different coffee and tea drinks and coffee beans as well. I ordered the Rosy Glow coffee drink and a large scallion biscuit that they had. The coffee drink was delicious. I heated up the scallion biscuit in the oven when I got home and made a great breakfast sandwich with it. The staff was all very pleasant during my visit. This coffee shop is a little bit out of the way from where I live, but I would visit again if I were nearby. read more

I'll keep this as short and sweet as I can; the pros are that the espresso and all things coffee-related are indeed incredible and you can tell they put so much work into their craft and everyone should go for that alone. The cons are only that parking is very limited and there are parking security enforcement officers all over the place and really weird areas where it looks like maybe you could park there but maybe it would be an issue and you'd get a ticket. The other is that there is no public restroom in the cafe or really anywhere remotely near to the business, which can create a bit of a precarious situation when you're dealing with the aftermath of drinking 2 double espressos if you catch my drift. read more
