There are two places where there were shreds of wood on the corner. I was unpacking boxes that were supposed to be books they packed, and I got about halfway through one box and discovered that they threw two glass shadowbox frames in with the books. One of them was shattered. Thankfully it was the one I hadn't yet filled with photos. The other one would have been disastrous since it had photos of my dad who recently passed away. Even novice movers know you don't put glass frames at the bottom of a box of books!!!! I'm seriously afraid to see what else got damaged in the numerous boxes I have yet to unpack. It's pathetic.

They had seamlessly loaded the contents of my 650 square foot apartment including large/heavy fragile furniture with glass (8 foot tall dresser with mirror weighing 250 lbs, and 50 galloon reptile tank) in about 1 hour. We promptly left via car to meet them at our new address in Philly, and they arrived at exactly the same time as we did. They unloaded the truck in about an hour again, and helped partially unpack and put items in the proper places, especially the furniture that would have been hard for me to move on my own later. I will continue to use Piece of Cake, and have recommended to several friends over the years that I have been using them. It was quick working with the customer support team initially to quote the move, make payment, and on COIs and confirmation. When we move again in a couple years Piece of Cake will be the only mover I call. My recommendation to others considering the service, be transparent and honest about the contents of your move, especially items requiring extra protection even if there is an additional fee involved. There were no surprise add-ons in my move because we carefully selected every single item that would be included in our move early on in the process, and made sure to reply in detail to the follow up emails regarding insurance, access to the apartments (stairs vs elevator, reserved elevator, etc.), and so on move-in day everything went off without a hitch. This was a NIGHTMARE from the start at my home with the foreman in charge of the move. He had ZERO intentions of honoring the contract quote I'd been given by his office. He started building a list of things he intended to charge me extra for 30 minutes into the move. He started with insisting that I come outside to look at the size of his truck. Which I thought was strange to start a move however after a second & third request from him I relented and went outside. My thinking being I hired a moving company so why wouldn't they come with a truck big enough for the move. So the truck was twice the size of what I needed for the move and more than big enough for my furniture to fit. However he starts to tell about how many cubic feet his truck has & that my furniture should only occupy so much space. At first I questioned him on why we were doing this before he and his other 2 crew members began working. His answer was vague and made no sense until he came into my house and proceeded to tell me that my TV's were too big and I had more items than he expected and he would have to use more boxes. So he starts to build a list of additional charges 30 minutes into the packing process. As he's building the list I showed him the written estimate I had with an itemized list of what I was quoted to compare to his list. He was visibly upset and started haggling with me about everything and going back and forth to his truck to talk to the main office. He basically stopped working to haggle with me for the next 3 hours thus slowing down the process. He tried to overcharge me for cubic feet, larger crates for my TV's and extra boxes, shrink wrap, tape etc.. A complete NIGHTMARE so 5 hours later I told him I'd had enough and I call the company directly in front of him to hold everyone accountable to what we agreed on based on a zoom video call I had with the person who gave me the estimate. In this recorded video call we itemized everything that needed to be moved & itemized the size of the furniture, TV's and the amount of boxes and materials needed for the job! The foreman was rude and disgruntled with me and the company at this point. He clearly intended to charge me an additional $1500 based off of his bogus estimate without EVER producing his copy of the original estimate. That was just the beginning of this nightmare with a rude foreman trying to bait and switch the estimate. The quality of the packing was TERRIBLE they basically threw everything in the boxes in no coordination or regard for my property. To make matters worse they didn't label ONE SINGLE BOX! The appointment was for 8am they showed up an hour late, haggled, took multiple cigarette breaks as a group and finished 8 hours later. As I'm communicating my displeasure with the situation to the office they offered me a discount on the initial payment which they honored & promise to discount the balance for my troubles because I paid cash. When my items arrived in Atlanta there was ONE mover to unload the truck and I was told there would be NO unpacking or reassembling. My new apartment is in an apartment building on the 5th floor and the elevator has sensors so basically EVERY TIME he loaded and unloaded the elevator I had to stand there and hold the door. Not to mention he's working alone and asked me to help him which I refused beyond holding the elevator doors. I paid for movers not to work for and with them. So classic poor service and several of my items were damaged upon arrival. Photos were taken of the damaged items with the promise of reimbursement. I have not heard back from the company and I've already accepted the loss so this is my only recourse. In addition to the extra one thousand dollars the company charged me for poor quality I've had to spend an additional $600 for unpacking, breaking down and removing boxes along with reassembling. This company failed me at every step and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND them at all! I would give them ZERO stars!!

However, note the following: Packing and moving services were both utilized. Representative came to review primary location of belongings to be moved (approx. 90-95% of the total) and was provided with a detailed video of the remaining items, stored at a different location. Despite this upfront information, (a) the total weight was significantly in excess of the estimated amount, resulting in damage to the transport vehicle and a 2-day delay, and (b) at the secondary location the supervisor informed us that there was insufficient room for everything. He had to be cajoled and convinced into making the extra effort... which proved effective and successful. A number of bookcases were damaged during while handling and required subsequent repair, at our expense. One item was a tool cabinet containing a variety of hand tools, hardware, and the like. The crew's solution to this was to simply wrap and seal the cabinet in plastic, and put it in the truck. By the time it was in place at the destination, we found that the contents were in utter chaos, luckily with minimal breakage. Some softbound oversized books were placed in boxes haphazardly or sloppily, resulting in significant creasing of wide swaths of pages. A few items additional appear to have gone missing (none of particular value) and a small number of items were broken. Overall I would in fact recommend their services, particularly in consideration of the pricing, but I would strongly recommend that if you contact them for packing services that these be closely and carefully supervised.

Based on my estimates of the time the job would take, they were much cheaper than any of the 5 other companies we got quotes from. In the end though, the job did take longer than expected. They used three employees and a large truck. They provided blankets, plastic wrap, and tape to properly protect all items for transport. If they noticed any preexisting damage on the furniture, they notified us promptly so we were aware. Initially, they worked quite efficiently, but began to slow down during the second half of pick-up. What I thought would take about 4 hours ended up being a 6 hour job, including a 45 minute drive to the new place. They still came in cheaper than the next best quote we were considering, but not by much. When they finished the move, they left a mountain of tape, plastic, and cardboard, which they supplied, in our hallway. We thought they would clean it up before leaving, but we were left with that task, which was disappointing. They require a $50 + tax deposit to reserve a move. You pay the balance after all the work is done. They offer a discount if you pay in cash. Overall, they were professional and moving is grueling work so I have no major complaints, other than the debris they left behind. But be mindful that the time-based quote may add up, so be prepared to spend more than you might anticipate.
