The vegan cheese had a bit of a sour note to it but nothing overwhelming; it was quite creamy. The burger was crisp and black bean-y, and the accoutrements created a rounded flavor. The tater tots I expected a bit more from; they were a bit soggy on the inside and only packaged ketchup came with them; not that fried potatoes aren't tasty but I've had better. Appreciate they have a vegan option for burger but they do not have anything gluten free. Doing a burger lettuce wrap is not a gluten free offering - it's laziness to not have GF buns in this day and age. It's 2023 not 1980. Do better. I could eat here everyday and die happy. We FINALLY got to visit where the line wasn't too crazy and we didn't have to wait an hour for our food. BUT, if you have to wait an hour - it's totally friggin worth it. Hidden snuggly inside the Alcove Beer Garden, it's the cutest place. I love how clean and simple it is with greenery and clean butcher block. The menu is adorable! It makes me want to order everything on it. You can order your foods and go sit in the Alcove and they'll drop it off to you while you wait - get a beer! I ordered the vegan smashburger and it was the most epic burger ever, LOVED IT. The only thing I didn't like was it got a little messy and I'm terrible at eating messy food. But it was worth it - everything went well together. Also, the tots... THE TOTS! The burgers had those great crunchy edges, juicy , well seasoned, tasted wonderful. The lettuce was crisp, not soggy and limp, a plus! The tomato flavorful and those onion straws added a great crunch. The caramelized onions were done well, the mess sauce was not really noticed , nothing remarkable about it. We were regulars at the original Mess Hall location the food at the old location was always well done and hot from the kitchen and really delicious Since they opened at the new spot we have eaten there 2 times and they have both been disappointing On Thursday 5/11 in the morning we stopped by for breakfast there were just a few customers in the restaurant it took a really long time to be served our food and it was ice cold and not cooked even the tots were cold! My vegan burger tasted like it was partially cooked and was totally mushy and cold my husbands breakfast burrito was cold as well How can a breakfast burrito with hot ingredients be cold? Answer is it was precooked I returned the burger and after a long wait it came out again and was cooked but flavorless not the delicious burger they used to serve! Who is cooking in this kitchen? The place is a unique design for sure. It looks like an old mess hall dressed up and there are other businesses in the main area.... Beer and such. There is also an upstairs that I didn't visit. Bathroom are clean and nice. It's a bright place overall! The food? We both had burgers with tots. They were good and were freshly made. My only rub is the price for what we got. Mind you, this is no McDonald's burger, it's much better. But it's pretty pricey. We had bottled sodas and they were bottled sodas. The friendly staff give us a number and they brought to food to our picnic table. Would I go back? Today was my third and final attempt with Mess hall. The food is average and there are much better places in town if you are craving a burger. However, the thing thing that made me decide to never go back is the ridiculous wait times. The place wasn't that busy and it took an hour to get the food. Mess Hall! I wanted to love you! The space is amazing. We ordered burgers for takeout (maybe this is why it was a miss!). The buns were amazing, but the burger patties were so overcooked and overseasoned it was a real bummer. We've had smash burgers before that were SO amazing, so we're really disappointed when these didn't live up to our expectations.
