Arrived on first day of opening at about 4:30pm and just about all of the tables were filled but only one person in line. If you want to save time, order online on their website, which I would do next time, but I would question if they would be able to complete it in a timely fashion. Didn't look like they had tons of staff available, looked slow -understandably it was their first day but still. Food took about 23 minutes. There is covered outdoor seating but limited. One high chair available. Burgers don't come with fries so you'll have to order that for an additional cost. There are also sides of tater tots, sweet potato fries, cheese fries, salad, or a combo of sides. Ordered the Mookie, which comes with Wisconsin, blue marble cheese, bacon onion jam, and roasted garlic aioli and a side of sweet potato fries. Cashier asked how I wanted the burger meat cooked. There are a few different dipping sauces for the fries-I went with the Winnie sauce. Regular Fries are crinkle cut and sweet potato fries are thin cut. Sweet potato were seasoned with sugar and the Winnie sauce was a sweet creamy dip. Wish they told me the Winnie sauce was sweet, otherwise, I would have chose another sauce. At least the sweet potato fries were crispy. Burger had good flavor overall, but the bun was cold, whereas the burger meat was piping hot. Love the food and staff here, but I saw the menu prices have jumped $1 in under a year. $11 for a burger, $4 fries, $3 soda even the kids meals went up $1. It's tough for small-town budgets, especially when places like Five Guys across the street offer a small burger for $7.50 or a larger one for $10 with all toppings. Or even Cookout next door we can get a burger, two sides, and a drink for $10 Couldnt Al's offer a smaller, more affordable option? Negotiate with suppliers? I got the classic with no onions and it was great! Sweet tea is definitely sweet, too sweet for me. Tots were awesome. They have black pepper on them and there's something different about them. I dipped them in spicy ranch which was also slamming. Really nice outside seating and the employee that rang me up was really nice. read more

Al's has changed their crew to clean cut men and young men who are friendly and accommodating! The restaurant is extremely clean and inviting! The only things that aren't better is they changed to a smash burger instead of the old way the shakes were very different in that mine literally turned to fluid in the short time it took me to eat my burger! read more

My husband and I tried this place for the first time a few days ago. We went for dinner. The room is small and a little on the noisy side between the music, the sounds of the kitchen and soda machine. We both ordered the Sean's bacon cheeseburger, along with a split of tater tots and crinkle cut fries. We got our order but didn't get the tater tots, just fries. The guy that served us quickly brought out the tots. About a minute later, my name was called. It turned out we were given the wrong burgers. We ended up with the Kenny J burger. We were okay with that and enjoyed the burgers. He actually wrapped up the correct burgers and we brought them home to enjoy the next day. The burgers are not huge, which was fine for us. We loved the tater tots, not greasy at all. Next time we'll skip the fries. They were too thick for our liking. We'll try the sweet potato fries. So cool to have an Al's in this part of the state! We stopped on our way to Oak Island- we ordered ahead so the burgers and fries were ready as soon as we rolled up. I got the black bean burger, which was delicious. Since others mentioned the beef patties were small my husband got a double, but he said he had plenty and would not have ordered a double if he'd known how big they actually were. Apparently there's an Al's Burger shack in Leland, NC of all places. My wife and I on our way to southport were looking for a place to grab lunch and being right outside of Wilmington on the highway we realized we were able to place a to go order for this location and it was ready exactly at the right time. We had our dog with us and there's a good amount of outdoor seating and a place to let your dog take a travel break. The burgers and fries were delicious just like the Chapel Hill locations. The burgers are pretty filling. I ordered two patties since other reviews said they were kind of small and found two patties to be far more than I could eat and I can put away a burger. The staff was super nice and friendly and there's ample parking. The only downside is the shopping center its located in is a bit of a maze in terms of getting in and out of. read more

Not happy about the change to the most important part of the sandwich...the burger patty. Al's was known for fresh ground thick burgers that were juicy and medium-medium well done, and tasted like a nice bar grill restaurant made it. The Leland location decided to change to 2 thin smash burgers. Why??? They should have just made a smash burger OPTION. I went there tonight to get a thick burger like I have had the other 3 times. The new smash burgers are not as juicy and flavorful. I can get that type of burger at cookout or 5 guys. $13.00 for one bacon cheeseburger that was disappointing and well done because they are thin. I went to Al's Burger Shack tonight. I had a coupon for a free side. I had a regular (Classic) burger, free fries, and an Iced Tea. With a 20% tip, my total was $19. Kinda pricey for what ended up being a plain tasting burger. The burger itself was a good size and cooked to temperature, but definitely lacked seasoning. Their crinkle cut fries were hot and crispy but plain and lackluster. Service was fair. I was 6th in line and it took 10-15 minutes to place my order. They have 2 registers but only one cashier was working at the time (6:00 PM). If I go again, I'll probably just find a seat and order there online. read more

Absolutely amazing Burger spot ! I do not like a lot of burgers places but this one was perfect !! Me and my husband wanted to give it a chance thinking it would just be an ordinary burger place but boy were we wrong lol. For anyone else that suffers with a gluten allergy this place has gluten fryers, sides, and amazing gluten free buns !! All the food had alot of flavor. The sweet potato fries were not greasy, they were crispy yet soft with the brown sugar on top and that Winnie sauce !! The BoBo burger was amazing with the gluten free bun, the chili had alittle spice in it which was great with the burger itself. Next time I get it I'll be asking for extra slaw, it needed alittle more on it. And the staff were amazing. They didn't make me feel silly for asking so many questions trying to make sure I would get cross contaminated. Me and my husband will definitely be back to try more menu items read more

Great chili burger, easy service. Better than 5 guys and more reasonable. Garlic aoili was tasty. Loved the tots and rosemary fries.

This Leland location opened several months ago and this is the first opportunity my family and I got to visit. The menu is posted on a wall and can be overwhelming on initial appearance. We are glad we didn't attend at rush hour. I informed the employee it's our first visit and he was very patient and most helpful. I got chili cheeseburger as listed no changes, wife got a plain cheeseburger, and our child got the kids nuggets and fries with a drink. We opted for the half tots / fries and two drinks all of which (except kids meal) are a la cart. Our meal was great and very moist and delicious. Our child's nuggets were overcooked and hard to eat. Perhaps I should've requested a redo but didn't. The seating inside was limited but available and very cool inside. Plenty of outdoor seating with wooden picnic tables. Our meal came out to be just under $45. While the service and food was great minus the kids meal, it is place you must choose to eat when the wallet can allow. read more

I am not traditionally a fan of a thick, meaty burger patty, the smash burger trend is usually more my speed. However, I took my son because I thought it'd be his preferred thick patty and it was new so we had to try it. Hands-down best thick-patty burger in the area! I got the Classic, he got the Sean's Bacon Cheeseburger add egg, and we got a Mookie to split and try. We got the half and half with tots and sweet potato fries. The Classic was very good! Not much of the sauce but I got extra on the side to add. His bacon cheeseburger he said was "excellent". The Mookie was different than we imagined, tarty bacon jam instead of super sweet was a bit of a surprise and not much of the blue cheese so we couldn't really taste it. It was good but we wouldn't get again because the bacon jam not being smeary was hard to eat. THE SPICY RANCH is the best spicy ranch we have ever tried. Devoured the tots in the spicy ranch. Very jalepeno forward flavor, very very good! Service was very friendly and price comparable to other burger spots. read more

Had lunch there today and I really didn't see what all the hype was about for this burger place. I feel very pricey for what you receive, nothing special at all. In my opinion Five Guys has nothing to worry about. Several customers around us even felt the same, one even said her burger at home was much better, another said the hype about the Chaple Hill location must have come from drunken college students. For the food you receive the prices are really high. My child chicken tenders were burnt and hard as a rock.

My son loves burgers, so of course we wanted to check out the new business ! I never leave negative reviews , but between the person who took my order and the food I had to. I wanted an extra patty for my son because he is little but will eat 2 burgers easily, she had a whole attitude about me adding a patty instead of paying 18 dollars to get him an adult burger side and a drink. He just turned 6 and is like 40 lbs ! I still shrugged it off tipped well and waited to eat. The burgers were so mushy. So much sauce , the buns were gummy they were so wet. It was to me almost inedible. My sons father s burger was the same as mine just veryyy raw we ordered med rare. My sons was super dry , and 2 (2.5 oz patties) I only paid 4 dollars extra for an extra patty . He didn't like it either. So we got a kids burger with tots and tea, and 2 adult burgers and 2 more teas for 45 bucks . I'd much rather eat hwy 55 and support friendly caring people!
