I expect that if I ask for a change to a menu item, e.g. sausage instead of bacon, and if there is an up-charge then I would expect to hear about it at the time I ordered. Not here, came with bacon and sausage, up-charges for the sausage $1.50/each link on the bill. I am not a server, BUT if I was I would probably ask "do you want bacon and sausage, cause it comes with bacon regardless, and the sausage is an addition charge". Not here, you won't know about the additional charge until the bill comes. Then I asked and the server confirmed, "yes, it only comes with bacon". The story goes on. I found a piece of plastic wrapper stuck to the bacon and pointed that out to the server, who responded "oh!"...and that was the end of it. Not a real concern for them, I guess they eat the plastic when it's on their plate. Anyway, if you like surprises on your bill and on your plate, this is definitely a destination for you. read more

Don't judge a restaurant by the outside. This place surged up breakfast just the way I like it. Over light was that- little runny. Beacon crispy, not floppy fatty undercooked. Pancakes were not the add water mix, they were cooked just right. Biscuits were way better than expected but home fries were grilled to crispy outside, but a little salty for my taste Man I would be in trouble with all these delicious carbs. I Wont go into a entire spiel on this place, it was a decent meal, I waited for 20 mins for someone to take my order after Melissa sat me and got coffee and said she would be back and kept walking back and forth in front of me and did not say word one and apparently I got passed off to Nickie, she was much sharper than M, anyway. The food was decent, the cooks were a little unprofessional, dropping the F Bomb and carrying on like it was there play ground but.... I used to eat there years ago when it was Ezell's the food was great then and plenty of it but now the portion is nothing the cheeseburgers you can't even see the meat bacon egg and cheese sandwich you get one piece of bacon and you can't even taste it. it's very hot it was over 88 degrees and there this morning the cook tell me that the air condition has been out for over a month. I don't think I'll be returning. I don't understand why it has gone downhill so quick does it have new owners are they closing it down does anybody know read more

Firstly, I do a call in order and I ordered a bologna, egg, and cheese on a bun, they try to get me to pay over the phone and I was driving so I couldn't. They ended up letting me pay when I got, but didn't tell me that it was going to be 12 DOLLARS. I'm sorry but NO breakfast sandwich of that caliber should be that expensive. I also ordered it to have mustard on it and there was none of course, then both bites I took had hard pieces of gristle or something in it. Went there for their once delicious stew beef and rice. What i got was microwaved beef stew over what I think was super dry SPANISH RICE. What???. The waitress kept coming by asking if it was hot, as it was frozen. It didn't matter because I was not about to eat it anyway. It was awful. We were there at 12:30pm. The place was empty. Just us. What once was a honey hole for a great price of Wilmington and Sunset Park has gone off the rails for prices. Yes some prices elevate , but not this high. I used to come here for the Waffle Special @6.50 now 9.99. Hash browns now 4.50 (Guess cooking at home looking much better). It was the staple of Sunset Park area, I heard things changed and no longer see the regulars. When you rise prices too high then you cut into waitress' money ...Til things change no more. read more

I'm sorry, but why do people keep rating this place so highly? I don't get it. My grandmother and I visited for breakfast, as she had apparently kept hearing rave reviews and been wanting to try it. We arrived, parked, and walked in the doors to find the place packed. We found seats at the counter and sat down. The waitress who came over to us wasn't wearing a name tag or anything, so I didn't catch a name, but it was CLEAR that she didn't want to be there. She seemed disgruntled the entire time we were there, even appearing agitated with coworkers (at one point, picking up plates to deliver to a waiting table, but turning around, bring them back to the counter, and then going off about how she was tired of dealing with something). Witnessing that alone? This place didn't feel like a welcoming atmosphere. My grandmother and I both ordered, and it took a surprisingly long time for our simple food to arrive. I ordered something that came with a Belgian waffle, two eggs, and two pieces of bacon. The eggs were tasteless though. Seriously... not even a tiny pinch of salt? Here's the thing... this place is going to appeal to the crowd that likes cheap, plain food. I think my plate was $5.95. That's fine...and I guess tasteless eggs and everything thrown on a plate is what you get for $5.95. THAT SAID? This is NOT the kind of place I'd ever go back to for breakfast. It's crowded, the food is medicore (at best) and very plain/tasteless, and the staff there seems overworked and agitated, if a bit unprofessional. I get that it's a short order/diner-type place, but with all these good reviews? I wasn't expecting such a "blah" experience. TL;DR Blah. Not welcoming, but yes... CHEAP. VERY disappointed! I wanted a traditional Spanish omelet with Spanish sauce (i.e. stewed tomatoes, peppers, onions...), but their version had ham, bacon, sausage & salsa. First time coming here, the breakfast was okay, reasonable pricey, this place has a divey vibe. I've definitely had better breakfast but that just my opinion. If you are a germaphob don't come here because no one wears gloves and the waitresses touch the food. The reason I gave it 2 stars is because well I don't like people touching my food with bare hands and the food was bland. The employees aren't very friendly and they are arguing in front of customers it's unprofessional. Probably won't come back, it's a one and done situation. Third time there someone was being a little too aggressive with the cleaning products on the counter where I'm eating, but understand it. Last time I went, I thought they closed at 3:00, showed up about 2:20 and closed, different from yelp. Started walking to my car and one of the cooks came out and were like "you want something quick? Ezzells Breakfast House is your basic greasy spoon, local diner. The place is long overdue for a remodel job but it was clean. Its simply needing a facelift...and lipo...and a tummy tuck. The menu is pretty extensive and the food is inexpensive (trying to avoid the word cheap as that can lead to misnomers about quality) I suggest the 2-2-2 :2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 bacon for only....$3.39, a total bargain. Ezzells is small, with 6 booths, counter seating and a coffee klatsch table of geezers who smoked the place up before NC inacted the new non-smoking laws (my lungs thank you!!!). The waitstaff was very good, keeping my coffee mug full of piping hot ground bean goodness and the food arrived promptly. It was great, fluffy pancakes, crisp bacon and sunshiny eggs. Don't pass by this place simply because it's a little worn, you would be missing a really good day starter :) read more

Yum! I'm not a huge fan of omelets but they were highly recommended to me. I ended up with a light fluffy omelet stuffed with crispy bacon, a couple of cheeses, and mushrooms. Melt in my mouth delicious! Now that I'm writing about it, I want to go for breakfast again right now! Also tried the fried biscuit - don't ask questions, just do it! Tasty little treat!!! when they shut down briefly due to rental disagreements with the owner, I literally almost cried. My 9 year old son actually did cry. I jumped for joy when they announced they weren't closing after all a couple days later. No lie, this place is AMAAAAAAZZZZZINNNNGGG. It doesn't look like much from the outside and its always packed. Much like your local Waffle House. The food was decent and priced cheap. Our waitress was not friendly in the least and our food, drinks, check were all kind of tossed on the table as she passed by. Once our food arrived we didn't see her at our table again. The only nice words were spoken as I returned from paying to leave a tip on the table. As for our food, our plates sat on the counter for about 5 minutes while our waffle was cooking so once we got the food it had started to cool off. When I asked for a slice of cheese to add to my grits our waitress returned carrying a slice of cheese in the palm of her hand which she proceeded to slam onto my pile of grits. I may give this place a second chance as it's right around the corner from home but I won't go out of my way to dine there. read more

The people that work there love to work there! There is one cook that is amazing I can't remember her name but she's at least 60 yrs old and I tell she cranks out some food! I love their omelets, their waffles are so good, and their cornbeef hash is so good! I can hardly finish my food when I go! They definitely put love into their food! Idk why people give 1 or 2 stars its, a breakfast house I'd rather go there and get something really good maybe a lil more than go to a fast food place and get something that is soaked in grease! It's better than waffle house! I go any chance I get! I'm not a breakfast person and they have made me a breakfast person! If they ever close for good I don't know what I would do or where I would go to get really good breakfast food!!! Excellent biscuits and gravy. The smoked sausage was tasty, as well, though a bit overpriced ($3.00 for a single sausage link? Really?) Parking lot is small but there is room in the alley behind. Decor is unassuming, 5-6 booths and counter seating.
