Ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for delivery from Long Island Deli and was impressed. It arrived hot, fresh, and exactly as ordered. The bacon was crispy, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and the cheese was melted throughout. Even after delivery, the roll was still fresh and held everything together perfectly. Great quality, generous portions, and fast service. It's hard to find a breakfast sandwich this good delivered--I'll definitely be ordering again! read more

I've been here twice now. First time I ordered a Taylor ham and cheese sandwich and the Taylor ham was SO thin and not much. Today I ordered a double meat Taylor ham and cheese (no egg) on a bagel which was almost 10$. This sandwich was not worth the price. The bagel is not a bagel and tastes almost the same as a roll. Went in on hope to get a good pastrami sandwich. We ordered it as a Ruben on rye and it was very tasty. I would have like my bread toasted more is the only negative. I do not understand why this place has only 3.5 stars. It's Healy score is a 99 which is rare around here, the prices are good, and the food is delicious! We encountered 3 employees while there and every one of them was very nice. Not just polite, but nice. Based on other reviews we were prepared for the people to be not-so-friendly, and we wouldn't care if they were! We're there to eat! Not make friends. Try it! I just went in and ordered a Reuben. I specifically asked the man there how it was made, grilled or toasted. He said grilled. I then asked why kind of bread it is made on. He said Rye, so I asked him to specify if it was plain rye. He said yes. I get back to work and open it. It is on marbled rye and it is neither grilled nor toasted. It's just a soggy sandwich. There was a reason I asked iThe first place. So I called and the phone kept ringing. I tried three times until Verizon ended the call and said it could not be completed. It took me less then 5-minutes to get back to work and when I was there, I was the only one there. So unless they got a mad rush in those few minutes, or the phone is not working, they just did not answer it. It's a one and done for me. Sad Reuben sandwich. We've had their corned beef sandwich in the past, which was decent, so we were expecting similar quality but this was like eating beef jerky. Great quality food, really really expensive. The ingredients used are really great, and you can taste the quality. Our only issue was that it ended up being way more expensive than expected ($8 for an egg and cheese bagel?), and more than the price advertised. We weren't sure if we had added something to end up $5 more than expected per meal, but we decided to let it be. Not much to say about this place, very basic interior and quite a few options for sandwich combinations. Not sure if I'll be back or not, because there are other options that aren't as expensive. My husband is from Long Island and after I read the reviews for LIE, I asked him "so Long Island egg sandwiches?..." and her responded immediately by admitting to not knowing why but he's never had one like home and could explain how they were different. Of course, I had to go pick up a few one morning and he's right. It's hard to explain exactly what's different, they are so simple and tasty. Oh how the mighty (yummy) have FALLEN. L.I.E. as they like to call themselves. Always thought that was unfortunate acronym. But I always forgave them that, because they were New Yawkers serving good food right in the shadow of Jackson's Big Ole' Oak tree. Now the acronym kinda fits in a not so nice way. This New York Deli once kicked the others out of the ballpark for good food at good prices with friendly staff people. The deli counter had good egg salad, chicken salad, and other items you might expect from a deli case. But the big draw in my mind was the Hot food. Long Island Eatery gave me a reason to drive across the grain of traffic on College to get to the meatball Parm, the sausage and peppers. And the big-azzed divide them into quarters and eat them all week--muffins! But the love affair began to wane this year. Crabby staff--when their staff used to recognize regulars. Soon the UNCW and Hoggard High fill-ins could give a jolly rats you know what that you came in and interrupted them from looking busy. Hiked up prices combined with tumbling quality-- I forgave the up again, down again quality of their staples. Sometimes the choc chip muffins lived up to their name to contain choc chips, sometimes they had just a few to keep you from suing. The idiosyncracies let you know this wasn't a food chain, but real people cooking for you. But slowly things started to change. Price, then quality... But the worst part was the lack of food available. I'd come in to the deli (which used to be packed) for a late lunch and they were out of everything. Often one of the staff would walk off without explanation and"find" whatever I had asked for, from somewhere in the back. This never sat easy with me. I understand, that the owner/manager had a really good reason for taking his eye off the ball. Health troubles with his beloved comes first, I feel ya' I hope you guys get your groove back, train your stand-ins to smile and appreciate the customers and the business you have built. And stop cutting corners with the quality of your food. I can stomach the grumpy kid who would rather sit with his girlfriend, but dang it.... that meatball sub better be worth it! L.I.E We need you. But we need good quality food, not salty meatballs with no sauce and no taste, not sullen attitudes when served, and we need food when we come in after the lunch rush. We came here after visiting the Saigon Supermarket. What a nice place! There are so many different heroes (sub/roll/hoagie/whatever) that it's hard to decide. The wife and I chose to split and share which helps with the indecisiveness. I got the Philly cheesesteak hero and my wife got the "montauk" hero. I demolished half of the montauk whilst the cheesesteak cooled. Fantastic stuff. I'm not sure I've ever had pastrami that tasted this good. The cheesesteak was decent too. Nice cuts of meat with really fresh ingredients and freshly baked rolls. It's in a pretty decent location too with tonnes of parking. The staff were polite and friendly and served up killer grub. What more can you ask?! It's advertised as a NY Delicatessen. I'm not sure how authentic they actually might be, but I also don't care either. It's killer grub. Plain and simple. read more

For those of you from the Northeast who miss the deli's that are famous from that area, you need to stop here. When I was in the navy stationed at the subbase in Groton there was a gentleman who ran a deli in this town of new London that I used to gain weight by going there fairly frequently. In the front window, there's a grossly-deceptive sign showing big, thick deli sandwiches (3 different ones) available M-F for $4.99. However, you actually cannot get that deal on the pictured sandwiches at all!!! I got a very THIN corned beef (half the meat as pictured in the sandwiches on the sign) and cole slaw on very stale, inauthentic, cheap marbled rye for around $7-8 (over $10 with drink). Unethical, deceptive business practice!!! I'm from Los Angeles, where all New York and Jewish delis pack the sandwiches with meat and use authentic, fresh, seeded rye. We had a good time here! We used to live on Long Island, so we were excited to see the names of dishes related to Long Island towns / spots. We had a hungry man hero and a Montauk (chicken cutlet) on a roll. The bread gave us a taste of "home". The staff was friendly and the service was fast. The only improvement I would make is having the place a bit cleaner. I'm not sure if we arrived after a rush or what, but the floors needed a good sweeping & mopping. Other than that, it was great. I stopped in to get a bite to eat, and was very disappointed, with the service and the food. The guy behind the counter had an attitude, and was not friendly at all, and kind of had an attitude. The bread they serve the sandwiches, has to be the worst of all the places I have ever purchased a sandwich. They have a picture of a nice French or Italian bread, but that is not what they have. This is the same review I posted on Urbanspoon, but it says all I need to say, lol! I'm a Wilmington native, and I'm still getting used to all things New York, lol! What I've learned is that folks from N.Y. are pretty cool, and (at least here,) they make a MEAN sandwich!! My husband and I have tried their 5 dollar lunch specials (Roast Beef and BLT,) and couldn't be happier. The quality of food is what is important here. The portions are very good. I think what some folks fail to understand is that you don't get something for NOTHING. If you want to eat as cheaply as possible and STUFF yourself in the process, this is probably not the place for you. But, if you want fresh, high quality food at VERY reasonable prices, and you enjoy friendly service, this IS just the place.
