We were seated in about 5 minutes (there are a couple seats inside near the to go pickup area to wait) and taken to a table in the back. First time visiting David's Deli at the recommendation from my wife, who has eaten here twice before. I trust her culinary voice...enough...so I said "sure". Plus, it was a new place to me and that created some slight inner excitement. FOOD: Crab Nuggets (appetizer); Reuben with potato salad; sweet tea. One of the better-balanced sweet teas you'll find in Wilmington, if that's your thing. The housemade brewed tea isn't too sweet but also isn't too bitter. It was cold, crisp and delightfully refreshing. The crab nuggets were fantastic. Yes, they're fried but they aren't heavy. Surprisingly, they were on the lighter, fluffier side but still hot, golden brown and offers a slight crunch. Inside is all about some cornmeal and plentiful crab meat with some minced peppers. Think...mini, light hushpuppies with crab meat, fried up wonderfully and served with tartar + cocktail sauce. Don't use too much sauce when dipping though bc it will kill the great flavor of the nuggets. A little dip will go a long way or simply use no sauce at all. I liked these a lot. When the Reuben and potato salad were delivered to the table, the first thing I noticed were glorious, beautiful caraway seeds on golden rye bread. Oh yes. As a matter of fact...hell to the yes to this bread. I'm not a bread or carb guy at all but I could just eat this bread as a stand-alone toast. I don't know where they source this bread but I want to know now. It's not an extra-large sandwich, but it's packed adequately enough to fill you up. The corned beef was super tender bc David's Deli shaves it thin rather than in chunks or brisket-style. Being almost transparently thin, the meat's flavor shines bright and was simple to chew. The thousand island dressing was terrific and the 'kraut offered a slight sweetness rather than the standard vinegary flavor. I'm guessing they use apple cider vinegar and it was awesome. The potato salad's mayo - mustard ratio was perfect and reminded me of a backyard family bbq dish. All in all, there was nothing left. It was ALL gone. I've had some very good Reubens in town but for $10.99 (+ small upcharge for the potato salad), David's delivers a top 3 value Reuben sandwich in Wilmington. SCORE: 4.9 STARS!! SERVICE: We had the pleasure of experiencing Tracy's service and she was on her game completely. Refills of tea and water were offered semi-regularly and she made recommendations when I asked what they were known for. Although she and the entire staff were busy, she was efficient and interacted with a smile each time. There were no mistakes, shortcomings nor anything I can recommend to improve service. SCORE: 5 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: David's Deli is legit. It's set up like an odd beach-style diner but serves up fine deli fare so be prepared for this setup before walking in, expecting something like Carnegie's in NYC. It's a casual dine-in vibe, delivers incredible food and provides you with service with a smile. The prices are very reasonable, making this a best value deli in Wilmington. I've been here a few times for breakfast! Their staff is super friendly and always fill up your coffee!! We got their Shrimp and Crab omelet - super delish! I had the grilled chicken philly & my boyfriend had the cheesesteak. The portions are really good for the price & everything was tasty. My, oh, my do I love this place! Pure Carolina hospitality from the staff and absolutely delicious, home cooked, fresh food! I've been here about 4 times over the past year and always treat myself to the crab and shrimp omelet for breakfast. The prices are extremely reasonable and I truly hope they're making a profit because it really seems like a steal. I will be honest, I'm a bigger fan of their breakfast menu compared to their lunch menu but maybe I just haven't ordered the right things for lunch. This place is cute and placed in a really cute little shopping center area right around where my bf lives.. we had been meaning to try this place a while before but with Chops right around the corner it was impossible because that was our go to place. We finally decided to go Sunday for brunch. The host and our waitress was very sweet. The restraunt itself was pretty tiny and very full with the church crowd. We both decided to have breakfast and we both had an omelet and hash browns. Oh and a biscuit, which was very soft.. very good. The hash browns a we're like any other, but I feel like the omelet it's self was just sort of odd, none of the toppings were melted in there by the cheese, it was just kind of a boring omelet. Our check we felt like was kind of unreasonable for what we had gotten, total ended up being like 35$ for 2 for 2 omelets.. sadly this place did not top Chops and we are still missing it. read more

The reason for my review is my experience, not their food, which is pretty good. If you're a racist, white person, you should fit right in. (note: the cashier/waitress was super nice and this does not reflect on her at all). On 8/10, my husband and I went to the beach and stopped in David's Deli & Restaurant for sandwiches and this happened... I was waiting for our order while Eric(who is Caucasian, I'm Asian) went to the car to get something. One of the owners came out from the back and started talking to an older white couple checking out. Don't recall who started but owner started to complain about the Chinese restaurant next door and their parking habits. Probably had a point with his complaint, but then one of them said "rules don't apply to THEM" and then went on about them not being able to speak English. The old lady then said "they only understand flied LICE". They all laughed and the owner repeated it, "haha, yeah, flied lice". Guess they didn't see me sitting there waiting on my to-go order. Eric came back after re-parking the car and asked me if I caught up on the gossip. I told him what happened. He was furious. We paid the bill and I asked the cashier (who is sweet as can be) if the guy was the owner and she said yes. I asked if she could get him because I wanted to say something, but Eric told me to wait in the car. I said it was okay and to leave it alone but he said no. He insisted, so I left. He came out and said "well, I feel better". Apparently he told the owner off and defended my honor :D. He said the guy apologized but Eric told him we were never setting foot in the restaurant again. David's deli has a wide variety of deli food. I have had almost everything on the menu and I have never been disappointed. Whenever I go back to ILM, I always make time for DD. True, like John B. said, there is a cheesy beach theme that is a little lame, but so what! This place is somewhere you sit down and dine and are waited on so maybe that is where the "deli" part of the title throws people off. The menu is simple, has burgers, sandwiches, salads, some basic meals to take care of almost anyone's needs but don't let basic be the word for you to take away from this.... the chicken sandwich is so freaking yummy, my mouth is watering as I am typing this! They have handmade potato chips which is always my favorite! On my most recent visit, hubs and I were sat immediately, we ordered our food and got it within about 10 minutes. There was a crowd and even with the people I saw waiting, they were sat pretty quickly and had no probs waiting around for their food. I got my fave chicken sandwich and hubs got a seafood platter which he loved! No complaints here about David's Deli. If you want a casual place to eat lunch or dinner, this is the place for you!
