I have been here 4 times now and I want to keep coming back! The food is amazing and I have never once gotten any food item that I did not enjoy. Everything seems to be as locally sourced as possible. This is a higher end restaurant so not really a place to bring your kids or make menu changes (which is frowned upon in high end dining anyways). The service is top tier! These servers really know what they are doing and I've even watched them handle unhappy customers with outstanding service as well (remember they're people too and if someone talked to me the way I have seen them get treated I'd be in jail). The building and ambiance is magical, very high end and I just feel special and high class when I eat there! read more

The food itself was just OK. Very expensive foods for decent flavor, but the flavor/quality wasn't justifying the cost. It seemed to me like a place that was trying too hard to be a white table cloth kind of restaurant, very much with a pinky out. I personally do not see myself eating here again due to the perceived false upscale. The menu was very scarce with only a handful of dishes available, each that again looked like they were trying too hard. The weirdest thing for me was the lower sanitation rating of 91 compared to other similar "classy" locations. What I think saved the experience for me was the staff. The hostess and waitress were both extremely polite, with whom I believe was the manager making the rounds as well. My waitress was on top of her game throughout the meal, and never let my glass go empty. If the staff were nothing to write about, this review would probably be a one star. read more

Sat at the bar on a Monday night to enjoy half night glasses of wine. Bartender Madison was very kind. Shared about the days specials and engaged in fun conversation with other parties at the bar and myself. Enjoyed rose and the shrimp n grits. While waiting for my entree a little cast iron skillet with two biscuits and butter appeared and they were hot and delicious. Perfect appetizer! All the fish is caught local except the mahi so I went with Madison's recommendation of the shrimp n grits and did not disappoint. Then the mousse was so yummy and beautiful presentation. read more

Made a reservation for a Saturday evening with a girlfriend at 6pm. Got seated immediately and our waitress was very nice. The duck appetizer was just ok. A little dry and almost tasted like BBQ instead of duck. The lamb shank was fall off the bone tender. Sauce needed a little bit of salt. Otherwise it was delicious. My friend loved her duck dish. The arugula with the vinaigrette made it. The pumpkin cheesecake matched the description. Very creamy but not overly sweet. The vibes there are great. Consistency is not their thing, come for taco Tuesday and they got it but man, we came for the wife's bday and then we came today and ordered off the bar menu and food was horrible. Get Brad the fish was so tough you could barely cut it with a knife. This time I ordered a burger and I am ordered it rare but it was burnt, I tried to trooper through but it was just terrible. They didn't change me for the replacement but, why would the kitchen even send it out like that boggles my mind and this all comes back to your best buddy chef doesn't want to hold his people to a standard that represents him and covey. Couldn't possibly expect a bad experience after finding out our server was a fellow Montanan! It was super busy but the team works like a well oiled machine and she didn't miss a beat. The menu is full of variety and nothing let us down. My top contenders, in no special order, octopus al pastor, the biscuits, baked AND broiled oysters, lamb saddle, and some of the most insane cookies you'll ever try. We love Hinsdale (AKA Hinny). Austen (chef) came out to our table to say hello. He's a cool dude, great vibes coming from him. He sent us a softshell crab and pork belly and some sort of snap pea thing and he came out to deliver it to us and explain what it was. Extremely overpriced for the quality of food that you get. I got the lobster entree. The lobster, shrimp, and mussels tasted and felt like I could get them at my local trashy seafood spot. Chewy, not very flavorful, and also not hot. The temperature was the most off-putting part. The pasta also stuck together as if it had been sitting in the plate for a while. To start, the service was good. Friendly upon arrival and when one of our appts just tasted like burnt garlic, which ruined the dish. Another app was a tasty and interesting seasonal dish. Our entrees were simply ok - expensive for the value & lacking in culinary appeal (variety of colors, textures, more than one or two flavors). My wife and I dined at COVEY restaurant in Wilmington NC on Friday night. Parking was available in their good size lot and extra parking on adjacent street. There restaurant sits in a quaint, somewhat wooded area with outdoor seating available. We dined inside this lovely COVEY. There was a good crowd but we had reservations and were seated quickly. The restaurant is "upscale" nice. The ambiance is welcoming. There are plenty tables, booths, private areas and a gorgeous bar. I did use the men's room which was immaculate! We were served with drinks almost immediately. Lauren was our server. She was truly "on point" with representing COVEY in a warm and welcoming manner. We would surely ask for her service again! The food..."Superb" ! My wife had the ribeye steak, cooked perfectly as requested and juicy and tender. I had a special request of the catch of the day, tilefish, on top of a crab cake. It was delicious! The sauce that adorned the plate was exquisite. I wish it had been draped atop the food. My mouth waters just thinking about the other night there. Also, I requested a semi-dry wine with a hint of sweetness. The manager, Brandon, brought me a wine to try. It was as if he read my mind. The wine was perfect for my taste. Reservations are easy to make through their website. Brandon responded very quickly when I emailed questions. The food and service were great! Inside is like a mature serious atmosphere. The complimentary biscuits were small, but baked perfectly. So buttery and soft. I tried the grilled radicchio salad, butterbean ravioli and for dessert, strawberry ice cream sandwich with chocolate cookies. I liked all of the different flavors of the radicchio salad with the sweet marinated peaches, beets, bitter radicchio, creamy whipped ricotta, and sweetness from honey. Ravioli and cookies were made in-house. The chocolate cookies were to die for. If you're craving chocolate, then definitely get this. I usually am not a huge fan of thick cookies, but these were so good, I did not mind. The strawberry ice cream tasted fresh. Really beautiful restaurant with very average food. The best part of the meal was the free starter biscuits with butter-- they were perfect. Unfortunately, the meal went downhill from there. The shrimp and grits was good--nothing exceptional, but standard and tasty. The eggplant katsu dish was just bad. I've never seen such a huge portion of eggplant on one plate-- and with nothing of substance (just some charred bok choy) to compliment it except a balsamic sauce that did not make sense with a katsu. Very surprising that an upscale restaurant would present something like this. I will come back once more with my wife to try a dessert date. read more

Nothing we had foodwise was remotely good. Menu is pretty good but could use more Fish choices. But Nothing we've Ever had was close to being good nor memorable food. They desperately NEED to get a new chef. He's horrible. We have spent over a thousand dollars there and would love to have it back cause it was pitiful Food. WOW! Everything was AMAZING. Covey is easily a top 3 restaurant in Wilmington. I didn't get an opportunity to take pictures of everything (::crying face::) but I was blown away by every single menu item we tried. We had the oysters, potato pave, blistered peppers, cavatelli and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was PERFECTLY brined and fried, the setup was collards and mash that were also excellently executed. The cavatelli was clearly fresh and if you like spicy this was DEF the move. The portions were nonpretensious and the quality was perfect, validating the price. Drinks were excellent as well. Although we were on the brink of being rolled out the door, we had to round out the night with the banana pudding suggested by our server. WE WERE IN HEAVEN. The bruleed bananas on top were more akin to marshmallows than fruit! To die for! And I would be completely remiss if I didn't mention the incredible service provided by Josh B. Chicken and dumplings, great! However, it could have been thicker, it was a soup consistency. Let it stick to the ribs. The biscuits were absolutely amazing! The duck was well balanced, clean and flavorful. Tuna- it needed some acidity, the chips were good! The Caesar salad was seasoned and crisp and the shrimp melted in the mouth. The atmosphere was delightful and the lighting was spectacular. The management didn't make much of an appearance to the guests which, as a chef I find very upsetting. read more

I cannot overstate how happy I was with my dining experience at Covey. From the moment we walked in the staff were attentive without being overbearing. The manager stopped by our table to offer advice on wine selections and to check how we were enjoying the meal. Our server was utterly delightful (I wish I could remember her name - will update if it comes to me!). And then to top it all off, the food was exceptional. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad and the blistered peppers to start. 10/10 for both. Entrees were all incredibly delicious as well (frutti di mari, catch of the day and Covey burger). Do not skip out on dessert - even though it's a small menu, it does not disappoint. The Covey cookies were a particular favorite. I would go back weekly if I could manage it. read more

Stay Away from Covey's ILM We went to Coveys ILM after the marriage of our daughter. Given it was a special occasion we were looking forward to a great dinner given the beautiful building and grounds. We indicated to the server of the special occasion. From that point on everything was downhill. The dinner and service were bad to say the least starting with the server who often forgot request's or didn't follow-up on them. The meal when it came out over a six-minute period for the six of us ended up being cold by the time all plates were delivered versus delivering all plates with multiple assistants quickly. The groom was the last to be served so we waited for his plate to be delivered prior to starting. My special sandwich was a tasteless lobster roll complete with bits of shells. The steaks were not cooked to order and were well done. The biscuit's served in the beginning were not mixed well where you could taste salt and flour as the prominent flavors. A side salad was not delivered and was requested again to the server. The focaccia bread could have been used as a hockey puck. Several requests were made for a coffee that was ordered in the first five minutes. When the server was made of aware of the problems, he seemed very nonchalant and indicated apologies nor did he try to bring in a manager. Amazing there was not any acknowledgement of the occasion in addressing the problems. No management presence in the restaurant to help the server handle the situation more effectively. The question is, was this a bad night for the restaurant and a bad memory every anniversary going forward for the couple, or an incompetent cook and with pathetic management at the helm. I vote the latter. Needless to say, would not recommend and will not return. read more

We have been to Cove four times now with widely varying experiences. On one occasion, when entertaining family from out of town, we waited more than an hour to have our drink orders taken and even longer for food. On another occasion, I ordered the crabcake, which is priced as high as one might expect for a fine dining restaurant. What one would not expect is a crab cake made from backfin crabmeat. If you're not serving jumbo lump at this price, then you are in the wrong tier of restaurant.
