The CFS was a huge disappointment today. Overcooked. Definitely needed a steak knife to cut it. This is the second time to be served an overcooked, tough CFS in about six weeks. I ordered the second time because any place can have an off day. Oh well. No more CFS from here. There are definitely better options to enjoy a CFS.. Decided to stop in for lunch while driving by. The outside decor suggests that it is a fancy restaurant. Inside it is Western style decor The tables are covered with red checkered vinyl tablecloths. It's a very popular restaurant, when we were leaving every table was taken and it is a fairly large restaurant. And most importantly the food was delicious. Last night, Sauturday 18 March 2023 I took my wife, our daughter,her husband and grandson there. As usual they were packed. But when we were finally seated our server had OBVIOUSLY never attended a food handling course. He did NOT write down the orders correctly. And when I asked to see the Manager, she did not care about any of the above. Was excited to try this restaurant as there were lots of good reviews and we were looking for some good barbecue. Sadly, this was not good barbecue. The only pros were that they smoked with mesquite and served with a shiner bock. The meat was hopelessly overcooked to the point there was no flavor or tooth to it. Very little smoke flavor. The sauce was unremarkable. I would not waste my money on this barbecue again. read more

My dinner looked so good when it came out that I honestly forgot to take a picture. I had the filet medium rare, a baked potato and asparagus. It was AWESOME. Not only was our food super good, but the service was fantastic. They were extremely busy, and we only had to wait 10-15 mins for a table. Our waiter, his name was Chris, was the best! Even after being slammed and running like crazy, he had a great personality and was laughing and smiling. He even told us about his first time eating here with his grandma years back. Moved to Willow Park in 96. Mesquite Pit was about the same as now. Good reliable food and service. Within 3 minutes of placing order salad and crackers are on table to quiet whiny kids of all ages. Nothing stands out as exemplary but everything I've tried from steak to BBQ, to grilled chicken has always been fresh, hot , and tasty. Give them a try. Think you'll like it. read more

I took my dad and husband to see the graves of Bose Ikard and Oliver Loving. They are huge Lonesome Dove fans and were really touched by the Texas historic markers and gravestones. We passed the Mesquite Pit on our way to the cemetery and decided to have dinner there when our visit was over. Boy am I glad we did. The food was great. I had the 3/4 in Rib Eye. Cooked medium rare as ordered. And my other diners had fried catfish and chicken fried chicken. The homemade rolls and cornbread really hit the spot. Our waitress was great. Open atmosphere with lots of old antiques and animal stuffings, great place to bring the family and enjoy a meal. Not the place for Texas steak. Did my research for nearby steak while traveling. Rated pretty good for steak and BBQ. Supper on a Wednesday night 730. Waitress was good/friendly, but over worked. Could have been more attentive but when larger tables came in after our 2 top she directed more attention to them than us. Typical. Don't ever underestimate the tip factor. ¾ inch Ribeye Medium was bottom end Medium rare. Asked for rib end and most aged cut in house if available. Got mid-section, no fat cap (over trimmed or lesser grade animal--probably later). Inner fat vein sparse between rib eye cap and petite ribeye. Parts of steak tender, other very tough and sinewy especially around untrimmed tail. Some of meat had very livery mineral taste. This means the animal may have been stressed or not bled properly at slaughter. Overall flavor not best, grain lot finished definitely not grass fed. Grilled vege skews looked nice but were basically raw. Probably on grill for less than 5 minutes low side no seasoning. House salad on its last legs of freshness and couple soft grape tomatoes were a bit gross. Blue cheese from jug, no house made here. Second entrée of salmon said to have been very tasty and grilled adequately. Got an overload of bread as waitress just kept shoveling baskets out with other orders and gave no thought to our table needs. Drinks not refilled timely as later larger tables taken care of first. She even had help and I had to ask manager/helper for service once they were finished with others service. They had to pass our table, saw tea glasses on edge as sign of need and by passed us nether-the-less. Very rushed traffic from after when we came in, but nothing seemed attended to at our table. When dropped off check, not told needed to pay up front, so waited a while until we flagged her down and she told us otherwise. By 830 they were turning people away that wanted to come in. Don't get it. Disappointed, was hoping to get good Texas beef like I had grown up on but this I'm sure came from the Midwest. Nothing special or really enjoyable. Had better at Texas Roadhouse and Logan's for about same price. Service and food here rates lower overall. read more

Terrific choice! We've been travelling across the west for 3 months and looking forward to having some BBQ in Texas when we got there. After looking around, we went on some errands and found Mesquite BBQ in Weatherford, ordered online to take home (because we had our dog with us and it was 95 outside). Ordered brisket, ribs, and sausage (my wife loves sausage). We had 6 sides to choice from for our orders so we got: mashed potatoes, coleslaw, green beans, cowboy beans, another coleslaw and potato salad. The brisket was moist and delicious. The ribs were good, but one was moist and one was chewy. Oh, the sauce they give was yummy! The sausage was fantastic. Potato salad was a bit too thin, but tasty. The slaw was good....not bad, not good...could've used a bit more "snap". All in all, a very good choice for food. read more

I rarely give 5 stars but I think my visit here actually warrants it. Saturday night 7 p.m., people waiting outside, and yet we still had a table within 15 minutes. Our server Marcus was amazing. When I say amazing I don't just mean that he was friendly and attentive, he actually was a wealth of information regarding the menu and the city itself (we just moved here). Food came out hot and delicious and was better than we expected. I had the sliced brisket, my daughter had a baked potato stuffed with chopped beef, and Ron had some amazing burger. Prices are reasonable making this place a really great value. We all went home with leftovers. We talked it all off with French silk pie, bread pudding, and blackberry cobbler. I tried all three and my favorite was the bread pudding. If you stop by, you should definitely ask for Marcus as your server. He anticipated our needs and was on top of everything. I have gotten the 1 inch ribeye here several times and it does not disappoint. Amazing flavor just as you would expect from a steak cooked in Texas. I have tried a variety of different sides when I go there. First the poblano and cheese grits are so good and if you are like me and cannot take the heat you are in luck as they are not spicy just full of flavor. The vegetable skewer has a variety of peppers, onion, and mushrooms. I found it okay but a little lacking in flavor. The onion rings were good as well. read more
