I came on a Tuesday and ordered the 2 steaks for $49 and two entrees for $25 with 2 kids meals. Kids meals were very generous which is great. The two entrees we ordered for our preteens and it was also a generous portion but they finished it! Two adults ordered the filet steaks. Mine cooked medium was a bit dry. The other cooked medium rare was much juicier. So lean towards medium rare. The shape of the filet was wonky. I'm used to a firm tall filet. I think I saw these are cut in house? Maybe that's why it was wonky. It tasted good tons of grill/smoke flavor which I could have done at home. I don't usually order steak here and I probably won't again. But the sides are great- the green beans have brisket and bacon? Not sure but they were yummy. The baked potato only came with sour cream and cheese. Maybe butter too but it must have melted on the line. No bacon or chives... I was happy to share this restaurant with my family but note to self- try somewhere else next time in town. I would like to personally thank Mesquite Pit for taking me on an emotional journey I did NOT sign up for. Picture this: I'm craving prime rib like it's my last meal on earth. I do the responsible thing and CALL AHEAD like a civilized human being. "Do y'all have prime rib?" I ask. "Yes," they say--with confidence. With conviction. With what I can only assume was zero verification. So I drive my hungry, hopeful self all the way there, already tasting that juicy, perfect bite in my mind... only to be told: "Oops, no they told you wrong, we dont have prime rib " Oops? That's not a minor inconvenience. That's betrayal. That's psychological damage. That's me sitting there questioning my life choices while staring at a menu I no longer trust. No apology worth mentioning, no effort to make it right--just vibes and disappointment. If you're going to crush someone's dinner dreams, at least have the decency to do it over the phone so I can cry in my car at home instead of your parking lot. 10/10 for building anticipation. 0/10 for delivering anything resembling prime rib. If you don't want to go to a high end steakhouse but still want a good steak. The Mesquite Pit is a perfect spot to try. Had the 3/4 inch ribeye and the burger. The steak is seasoned and cooked to perfection. The burger was a decent burger. Ended the meal with the bread pudding. Stopped here while checking out weatherford. The staff here are very friendly and the food was plentiful. I wasn't a fan of a few things. 1 being the "food tax" at @$5.00. Not sure if that's a Texas thing or? 2. A credit card fee. %3. But still, kinda annoying. And 3 was just the bbq sauce but the food was still very good. I was sent a $10 reward certificate, but when I tried to use it, the host said it had already been used. And the manager was useless and wouldn't even come up to the front to check on it. We went on Saturday and waited a reasonable 20 minutes or so to be seated. While waiting we saw the special or a ribeye plus shrimp for 31.99 plus two sides. We thought well that sounds good. We were sat and waited for a bit for someone to take our drink order, then waited for the drink order to arrive. I asked what the soup of the day was and was told it was beef with veggies and beans. I asked of it was like taco soup. I was told no. The soup was terrible. It came with chips sticking out and had zero flavor. We did split the special. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium and it came out medium-rare. The grilled shrimp were pretty small and just not that great. The sides of okra and grilled vegetables missed the mark as well. Just no flavor or seasoning. I dont think we will visit again with other options that are better in town. The salad was the best thing we ate but was extra and not included with the special. I dont feel the $50 we paid for this meal was reasonable given the quality. read more

I enjoyed the rustic vibe and great service at Mesquite Pit, but the steak itself didn't match the hype. The salsa (house made, I think?) and chips were an excellent start. I went with the 3/4 ribeye and the portion was Texas sized, of course. More than enough for me after a very long day. I ordered it medium rare and it came probably a little closer to rare than that, but I'll take under instead of over any time. It was a good steak, but not a great one. Maybe my expectations were too high or I was just a little unlucky, but to me it seemed very lean for a ribeye. If I were back in the area, I would give them a second chance. read more

Looking for a steak in town .. we found this location. Yay! Parking lot is big but so is the restaurant. We had a 30 minute wait at 7.30pm and her estimate was perfect. Be prepped as there is not a lot of space to sit and wait. We ended up outside, and there is no intercom. She walked around looking for the next party. They were just straight up friendly here from the minute you walk in. The waitresses were hustling. The food took a little longer than expected. The queso had a good flavor though a little thin. My son loved his new york strip. The asparagus was a little overcooked. I went for the grilled chicken salad .. it was more than I could eat. They made their own dressing!!! This is my second review. We decided to give this place a second try because of the four stars, and we thought maybe the first time we went. It was just a bad night... We went with barbecue, because this place is supposed to be famous for the barbecue, and it was probably the worst barbecue we've ever eaten. And my husband has eaten barbecue all over the country. He had ribs and ham that were visibly dry, so dry..... and they forgot the corn on the cob. I had a $35 steak that was cooked good however not worth the $35 and not flavorful. We have been going to Mesquite Pit for more than two years. The filet cuts are very good about 70% of the time, depending on when you order it. Grilled chicken salads are very good with large portions. Fried pickles and fried okra are very good. Turtle cheese cake and Chocolate French Silk pie is very good ( but proportions are inconsistent). Onion rings are very good. If you order take out be sure to check your order before leaving, especially if Autumn is working. Even after having to make another trip to get the brown rice that I ordered, she still gave us white rice. I have to subtract a star for incomplete takeout orders. read more
