We stopped in yesterday trying to catch the Mother's Day brunch but were a bit too late. We sat at the bar and had a drink. Amanda was amazing! She made me the a coconut margarita and it was the best margarita I've ever had. It was deliciously dangerous. We went here on a Saturday and got an extra special treat. During crawfish season they serve seafood as well. So, we started off with crawfish which was served with potatoes, sausage, and corn. We also ordered boiled shrimp too, damn they were good! Our friends also ordered some oysters with a red sauce and cheese on top, which I did not try but looked good. After that, we ordered some bbq as well, because, why not? The brisket was quite tasty, not the biggest smoke ring I've ever seen, but the bark on this brisket was amazing. Very peppery and just pops in your mouth. I ordered the lean brisket and it was super tender and delicious. We also ordered some pork ribs. Also, nice and tender and very flavorful. No sauce required which is how bbq should be. They have a full service bar inside. This place is a gem, but the real treat is during crawfish season. My wife and I stopped in at 589 Hickory BBQ for dinner, and it was a bit of a mixed experience. The place is a typical steel-building BBQ spot--nothing fancy, but it seemed clean, which is always a plus. One thing that stood out was that they have a bar, which is a nice addition since many BBQ places around here don't. As expected, it's a walk-up-to-order setup, but what caught me off guard was the menu structure. They don't offer the usual 1, 2, or 3-meat plates you find at most BBQ spots. Instead, you order meats by weight and then sides à la carte. They do offer a child's plate (1 meat and 1 side) and a senior plate (1 meat and 2 sides if I recall correctly), but nothing for people who want a combo of different meats with sides to eat in. Not wanting to mess with figuring out weights and such, we both opted for the BBQ potato. The brisket on the potato was very good--tender and flavorful. However, I wasn't a fan of the BBQ sauce on the table; it tasted more like ketchup to me. Later, we overheard someone mention they had a spicy sauce option, but by that point, we were nearly done. I paid 15 just for my ribs I got two pieces and they had a lot of fat on them . I got 3 sides at 5 bucks each for the smaller size! The beans were ok the vinegar coleslaw was just ok and the and the potato salad tasted so good but was straight puree kinda like a mash potato I was super disappointed. Quite certain 589 served our B-B-Q to the many people in line yesterday and today. That just isn't fair to put us at last minute in a frenzy! Fountain drinks changed into 16 ounce $3.64 bottles. Chopped beef sandwiches have jumped to $16.64 & lb of ribs $31.20. Owner states he has no control over beef prices & maybe that's true, but come on $3.64 for a 16 oz bottle of Dr. Pepper & $16.64 for a chopped beef sandwich. Can't afford to eat there now, which is a shame, because we loved the food. But we can find decent BBQ that is a little over half the price of this dining. Service is fine & the ambiance was OK. We stopped at this spot as we were traveling to Dallas for the night and were due to get in late. Everything on the platter was fantastic. There were two of us and we split the Futurity plate. It was enough for probably 4-6 people, but we wanted to try the different meats and sides. We got the brisket, pulled pork, turkey, ribs, and sausage on the platter. We tried the Green Chile Hominy (which I thought was fantastic), but my companion wasn't a fan. We went with the collard greens, baked beans, and vinegar based slaw. The brisket was 1/2 dry and 1/2 wet. The wet was the best. All of the meats were fantastic, with our rank order being brisket (wet), brisket (dry), ribs, turkey (surprisingly moist and tasty), ribs, pulled pork. I would not have been disappointed by any of them. The sides were all very good, but the slaw was my favorite. My companion preferred the collard greens (first time they'd had them). The ambiance was comfortable with folks enjoying a "name that song" game at the bar and families enjoying the company and food. Tried 589 for the first time this weekend and we were impressed! When we try a new bbq joint, we always order the big three, brisket, ribs, and sausage(jalapeño/cheddar). They nailed all three! Brisket was super moist and tender with the perfect amount of smoke and pepper. Ribs were tender, with just the right amount of smoke, and just a hint of sweetness. Jalapeño/cheddar sausage was very flavorful with just a little heat. Had the green chile hominy and the potato salad and both were very good. Cool little place with plenty of seating inside in the a/c, and a great outside seating area when it's not 105 in August. Good service with a friendly staff. This will be our go to bbq joint moving forward, both for sit down and takeout. It's definitely worth the drive from Aledo. Keep doing what you're doing 589!!! read more

My wife & I drove by this place on the way to Polo Mexican Cafe in Weatherford (Highly Recommended) & said we need to try that place. Well,we just left there & here is my take. Brisket, Ribs & Jalapeño sausage were a solid 8 & my Hominy & Collard greens were a 9 but the potato salad DEFINITELY needs help... it looked liked skin on masked potatoes with a little vinegar and a little onion... Meh. We finished with the Blackberry cobbler & ice cream & it was a 9! Overall, the the experience was very good & I would recommend giving 589 a try... we will be back! read more

Tried this place for the first time on Friday night. It was excellent! I split the 2 meat plate with h my husband and still took food home. We got the brisket which was so tender and flavorful and the jalapeño sausage, it was mild but good. For the sides we got pinto beans which had chunks of meat in them and Mac and Cheese. The meal also included a trip to the salad bar, which was loaded with all sorts of delicious things. There were 3 gentlemen visible in the front of the restaurant. 1 was carving, 1 at cashier and 1 stocking and doing whatever needed being done. Everyone was very nice and it was a great experience. Tried this place on a recommendation. Man! Where to start. I tried a couple of the places in Lockhart Texas that are touted as being the best. I wasn't impressed. 589 bbq absolutely blows every other place I've ever been to, out of the water. I had the sliced brisket sandwich (you better be hungry, because they aren't shy about loading you down with the brisket). The brisket was perfect, juicy and tasted great. The sides I had were really good. If you don't try this place, you're missing out. I'm going to have to go back to try the ribs and sausage. No way I could have eaten any more than they gave me on the sandwich. I highly recommend this place. Nice place but bbq wasn't the best I've had. I did the pulled pork and hubs did the brisket. His brisket was a bit fattier than he likes. My plate was full of grease and a good portion of the pork meat was fatty. I had mac and cheese but it's actually rigatoni with cheese sauce poured over it. I thought Mac and cheese should be baked. I saw a photo of nachos and the cheese actually looked like the nacho cheese. So maybe it's the same - little flavor. The portion size was generous - but it was weird. The grease from the pork soaked half way up the paper boat of the Mac and cheese. Hubs had hominy and he said it was good. The sauce was excellent - very tasty.
