This is our new go-to place, as we just moved here from the states. High quality food, lovely service and pleasant atmosphere. Don't walk.... Run here for the fish soup. Hands down the best meal I've had while in Ireland. It has bits of smoked fish with other various fish. What lovely atmosphere. It's just perfect if you are looking for a place to sit and looking around you well you're having lunch or dinner. My wife and I were visiting Dungarvan for the first time and I spotted this place on Yelp. The previous ratings looked like this might be a place that we would want to visit and have lunch. My wife ordered the seafood soup chowder and I ordered a bacon burger with cheese and chips. The food was excellent and well prepared. Kate looked after us swiftly and came by several times to see how we were getting on. We had a very nice dinner here. One of the major restaurants in the area was closed and everyone came to this restaurant making it extremely busy for a Monday night. There were three waitresses working a packed restaurant and they were turning away diners by 9pm. We started with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa that was quite fruity and refreshing. The French wine we wanted was sold out. I had the lamb burger and my wife had the chicken pie. Both were prepared very well and tasted great. Service was slow due to the overcrowding but still within the acceptable range. If you are wondering why I rate a lot of things with five stars, it is because we do a lot of research before going to these restaurants. Great meals do not happen by chance. read more

You all had very nice dinners here. I would love to had had a nice dinner here, but I was never acknowledged. I was left in no small way feeling like as a single American, I didn't matter to them at all. Family, sure. Irish, sure. But no one acknowledged me when I walked in. After asking, a woman very curtly told me there were no seats available, but I could sit at the bar until one was. Fine. I noticed she had just cleaned the 4-top behind me, which sat empty. So I already knew what was going on. I sat at the bar, waiting to order a drink, but after several minutes the bartender had yet to acknowledge me in any way. I know when I'm not wanted, and the best service I can do is to tell my fellow Americans (or other visitors to the Isles) that they're not wanted here either, so please do them a favor and spend your money elsewhere. read more

What a delightful little bar this is. Without doubt one of the most atmospheric pubs you will find in Waterford. Beautiful old style nautical theme to the pub. great selection of beer and other drinks. they also offer great bar food. Very friendly staff. FREE wifi. Great live music! Heartbroken from finding out that the Tannery didn't do lunch on saturdays, I landed in Merry's and got myself a lovely rissoto, while my partner had the fish of the day. The dried mushrooms in the rissoto weren't quite there yet but the rest was lovely, and so was the fish, tasted it myself ! Our usual venue of choice in DG is The Tannery. Let me say that up front. However, for a variety of reasons we decided to try Merrys instead for a recent family dinner and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and range of good food on offer. It's a pub, of course, so calibrate accordingly. Another bonus of a pub, of course, is that they serve pints of 'whatever you're having yourself'. Between 6 of us, we had mussels, chicken wings, lamb, salmon and various salads all of which proved to be quite good and, as we say in management consulting speak, aligned with customer expectations. It doesn't compete with the Tannery, it doesn't try to but, for all that, excellent meal, excellent value for money, very pleasant room and attentive staff. What more could you ask for? What an amazing little find! We were looking for a little late lunch snack and landed on a gold mine! The seafood chowder, which rotates, is out of this world! If they have the one with chorizo in it, GET IT!!! It's amazing!!! We also had the potato croquettes, the BBQ wings, and the BBQ pork ribs. I stopped off here with my father on the way to Kilkenny from Cork in January and we were very happy with the food and service. The bar/restaurant itself it a lovely old style pub with a great atmosphere. I went with the chicken and my father went with the lamb, both of us were very happy and would definitely come back again. read more

It took a bit of time to find it but it's in a nice area of the town that isn't so busy. They have a good selection of food and it's obviously somewhere that folk revisit. My Mother's 'Merry sandwich special' was enormous! They cater for vegetarians and glutenfree. The chicken wings are pretty good as is the fish soup. We'd go again. read more

My and my family's favorite gastropub, at which we eat whenever we are in the area. Charming and cozy interior. Fantastic service every time. Wonderful fish and chips, plus soups. Burgers are delicious and enormous. Beyond typical pub grub, Merry's also offers several unique tapas dishes. They also have an extensive selection of beers, plus whiskey and gin. When we take visitors here, they always love this restaurant. read more

Okay I'm going to be more honest with my full review than I am with my rating. I don't actually believe that Merry's is a four star restaurant, in my opinion it's more like a three star. The only reason I gave it a four star is because I have a relative that works there and was pressured by the rest of my family that dined with me. I refuse to release a review that gave a false impression of such an establishment. For the most part Merry's is an average bar and restaurant. The service is good, the wait time for orders is good, the atmosphere of the restaurant is good, and the staff does a good job of keeping the place clean which is not common for Dungarvan I'm looking at you Mooring's. I will say, and this is what stood out most about Merry's, the food is very good and totally worth the cost. Merry's is a good bar and restaurant and I recommend it above the other restaurants in Dungarvan if you're passing through. read more

We were in Dungarvan intending to have lunch. I was around 11:45am so few places we doing lunch yet. We decided to wait for Merry's to open at noon. We were standing outside when one of the servers open the door. We greeted her and asked if they were open for lunch, in reply we got a grunt of some sort. Trying again I said "well you've got two hungry customers", this got another disinterested grunt as she walked away. Deflated we decided to go somewhere that would appreciate our business.
