I came here with my sister for an early dinner (5pm) from a recommendation from the staff of the hotel we were staying at. They recommended the baked potato, the chicken something (started with a c, and is essentially a chicken strip), and the peppercorn steak sandwich. We opted for the baked potato with the meat chili sauce and the steak sandwich. Y'all, the portions are huge (two people can share one dish) and the peppercorn sauce for the sandwich was INCREDIBLE. My sister and I used the sauce to dip our fries in. The chili baked potato was also excellent. It has a nice kick to it, so if you don't like heat in your food, then skip this dish. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic. We asked two waitresses for advice on places to visit, and they were helpful and gave us great answers to our questions, and gave us recommendations based on what we were interested in seeing. One of the best placed I've eaten in Ireland. The fish and chips was in point, but my companions had the specials (not pictured) and the dishes were simply amazing. So glad we got a recommendation to come here. The Bartender (Simon?) could not have been nicer. He had suggestion where to go and what drive to take to get the best views (copper coast!). I would definitely be back if/when I have a chance. Beer is also delicious :) read more

40 degrees on an afternoon, feeling cold and peckish. I stopped in the ally entrance of the Ginger Man in downtown Waterford. I didn't know what to expect but it looked cool from the outside and full of customers on the inside, many locals speaking Irish. We were invited in and put through the typical COVID protocols before being seated. Our orders were taken quick and I was soon to be warming up to an Irish Whisky. My dinner was simple, Hot Pot aka Irish stew with real potatoes and thick stewed beef and vegetables. Bit was awesome! For our day trip to Waterford, identified this pub from online reviews as a good option for our lunch and it did NOT disappoint. It is off a pedestrian road in the center of town and packs the traditional Irish pub feel upon entering. Our party of 4 was seated at a rounded booth and promptly waited upon. I decided to go with their seafood chowder, which turned out to be the best I had over our vacation throughout the country and one of the 3 best dishes I had overall. Would definitely return if ever back in the area. read more

After not getting any help in another restaurant we ended up here. It was pretty busy at the time. We were given a table. After a wait our order was taken. Drinks were ordered after another wait, along with lunch. Drinks were brought to the table along with my husband's bread, after a wait. And we sat. We waited, and waited awhile before anyone checked on us. We were ready to leave. Food finally came and was ok at best. I had a steak sandwich and the meat was very tough. I ate more bread than anything. My husband had the beef soup. He also said it was just ok. We left pretty shortly after. read more

The food and ambiance was awesome. All our food came in time and the wait staff was super friendly and attentive. We picked this place randomly on our visit to Waterford and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend the beef sandwich with chips and make sure they add the peppercorn gravy. You'll love it. read more

I had only been in Ireland for a couple of days before finding this one. I found many of the staff members working in the restaurants in Dublin to be very stand-offish and rude. My mom and I received looks of annoyance. Once I had gotten to Waterford, it was completely different. The staff was great. They were so nice, kept our drinks full, and continuously checked in to make sure we were doing okay. The atmosphere was great. Very clean and cozy. The menu is simple and the food is tasty!! I love the Gingerman. I've went countless times and I'll continue to keep going back. Their set menu is pretty simple but the food is always fantastic. Their specials are amazing too and I always find it so hard to pick. What really keeps me coming back is the staff, who are some of nicest people. No matter when I've went, I've always gotten the best service here, and it's clear that the staff are just genuinely lovely people. read more

So Glad I stumbled on this unique and one of the oldest pubs in Waterford The place is cozy, clean & very friendly. With the owner walking around checking that all patrons tummies are very happy. All food is made in house. I had, Beef & Guinness Hotpot. Incredibly yummy, Irish Stew with 2 scoops of mashed potatoes. The broth, OMG you have to try it for yourself. Great service, and cozy atmosphere. Food was really wonderful and came out of the kitchen piping hot and fresh. We were at table reserved for a larger group within the hour but they didn't make us feel rushed at all! In the shopping area too so convenient location while we were touring around the area. We were only in Waterford City for one night-Nov.22, 2018. It is a very charming city. We stayed at the Granville Hotel. After checking into the hotel, we decided to go for a walk. That is when we discovered the Gingerman. What a pleasant discovery. the food was good and the service was superb. It is what I imagined an Irish pub would look like. We even got to meet the owner. There's also an excellent range of European beers and that's just the tap selection. There is also a large selection of bottled beer as well as a cask beer hand pump. Dungarvan's excellent Black Rock Stout was on cask when I was there. Apart from the range of beers is a wonderfully congenial atmosphere. People don't come here for loud music and dancing. In fact it took me a few hours to even notice there was music playing. The loudest location for music is in the toilets. In the rear bar, it's only just noticeable and you can barely hear anything up front. This meant that it was the perfect place to spend the whole night chatting. I love how the front and rear bars are separated by an old western saloon type swinging door. There's also an upstairs area that you can reserve with your own bar, though the beer selection up there is just two taps of the usual suspects. At one point I popped out to check out Revolution and I promptly returned to Phil Grimes to see the return of my sanity. It's worth mentioning that while they don't serve food, they have a deal with a local pizza place, pizza is delivered to the pub. €10 for a pizza and a pint and the pizza is pretty damn good.
