The atmosphere is really calm and peaceful, which makes it a wonderful learning environment. The small class sizes are another huge plus and allow the teachers to give each student the attention they need. The staff here genuinely care about the kids, both academically and emotionally. I've been amazed at how the teachers, staff and even the other students have really helped my son come out of his shell. Despite being previously enrolled in preschool, he was quite shy and introverted when he first started kindergarten. He's now really flourishing and every day I can see the positive impact everybody at Almondale is having on him. I can't say enough good things about the staff and teachers. They're kind, attentive, and genuinely care about each student. My son isn't just another kid in a classroom; the staff and teachers truly take the time to understand his strengths and challenges and work with him every day to help him thrive, which is something I really value. They also have a terrible special education curriculum. They know how to handle the kids but not teach them in ways thatll help growth. This is an OK school if you have a young kid but when you get to Upper El and above they get lazy and do care (grades 4-8th) and they also group up 4-6th graders in one class which makes teaching difficult as everyone receives the same kind of teachings.

They use exclusion and isolation as means of perpetual punishment, so that those outside of their clique are always in trouble, and desperate for their approval. They've established a Kafkaesque system where some students are always guilty of one infraction or another. The infraction is never clear, guilt is assumed, and the means of clearing oneself is impossible to discern. The proceedings against them continue night and day. If your family holds progressive values, especially if they are young girls, or if you or your children identify as LGBTQ, then the woke, young, predominantly female teachers will immediately accept your children into their social clique. From that moment forward, all of your child's actions will be acceptable, and the teachers will always take their side. If your family holds traditional values, if your child is a typical boy with energy who enjoys playing sports, or if you believe you may bristle against the abuse of authority of a high school mean girl clique drunk on power, then this school is not for you. We've hated it here for years. We've been trying to leave California, and we didn't want to change schools before leaving state, and then change again after leaving. We wanted our children to have the stability of being at the same school and having the same friends. We're finally leaving California, so we can be done with this school. When the obvious pattern of control, manipulation, and social exclusion by the staff became clear, my wife denied it for years. My 14 year old was so excited to go on an overnight field trip with his classmates one last time before we move. Last year, he was excluded from all field trips for the second half of the school year as a punishment for calling someone "gay." We assumed his punishment would end with the end of the school year. The field trip was scheduled for Tuesday. Apparently, the teachers communicated to him that he may be disinvited from all field trips this year, too, but they never told that to my wife and me. At school, he spent the entire day on Monday asking his teachers whether he's allowed to go. They told him over and over again that they hadn't decided yet and needed to have a meeting. On Monday night, after school, they sent my wife an email saying that he was disinvited from the field trip. We had no idea this was even being discussed, or what the justification was. The only reason they gave was, "insubordination." The Maoist Red Guard is heartless. The Cultural Revolution consumes all! He had his heart set on spending one last night with his friends before moving. Now the mean girls have the pleasure of taking something from him once again, and can indulge in the delicious fruit of self-righteous gloating over the teenage boy they've assigned to the lower social class. To put it in perspective, my Science and Mathematics teacher from two years ago is my English teacher this year. On top of that, they seem to be underpaid and overworked as well. Of the teachers who have left, no one has yet taken their place, meaning no qualified substitute teacher has been hired. The curriculum in itself is not very good. A few of the teachers dislike it but are still made to teach it. As a student body, there are almost no clubs or extracurricular activities other than an occasional basketball or volleyball team led by a parent. There also are not any sports clubs, poetry clubs or any of the sort. Plus, lots of electives, like Chemistry, are done online instead of in a school setting. The school building itself is falling apart. It could be classified as a "ghetto" private school. The sanitation is very limited, i.e., broken toilets, cockroaches, etc. Some of the students are closed-minded and harass other students. Closed-mindedness is seen as a student does not act, like, or discuss the same things another larger group of students do, they are looked down upon with the: "That's not very Christian." To put this in perspective, if a student enjoys rock music, they are looked down upon because they do not enjoy a different genre or Christian music. Harassment is hidden with the classic: "It was just a joke!" To put this in perspective, a student will be ganged up on and made as a joke all in the name of a good laugh. Personally, it's not worth the money.

She has never failed to be rude towards me even when I've tried to let things go in the past. I feel she is not a good educator and is not trained enough working with children or parents. In my experience, she has just blamed my toddler for his behavior and failed to take acknowledgement when I called her out on her behavior. The school also does not help with potty training like they say. I paid an extra $150 and my kid was frequently left with a full pull up nearly every time I picked him up. I feel she has lied on multiple occasions about my son's behavior and my behavior stating herself that I threatened the school and had erratic behavior. I feel as though this woman falsely escalated this situation and me in a negative light and I will be pursuing a complaint with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education regarding this matter. I was told the assessment would be 4 hours which seemed a bit lengthy but when I arrived to pick up my child the tests were still not finished and I was told that my child was actually finishing early! I later met with Bill Newman to review the assessments. The tests did not tell me anything I didn't already know my child had struggles with and we spent an hour and a half rehashing the same concerns. My child divides their time between my home and their father's home and Bill kept saying that he needed to meet with the rest of the family. I explained that he could contact them and set up time or talk with them on the phone. I also explained that if his concern was not being on the same page, we were all wiling to follow whatever plan was put in place. Prior to this assessment we had all agreed to doing whatever would be best for our kid. I explained to Bill that it might be difficult for them to meet with him in person as they have a business and small children with another on the way. He said he would call Stepmom to discuss. Bill then said he did not want to set my child up for failure and I asked him how that would be the case. He said that if different things were happening in each home my child would fail. WHAT?!! I reiterated that we would follow the plan and then said, so you're telling me that some tutoring wouldn't help? He said no, of course not. Well, please explain, I said. Bill then stated that Huntington has a 95% success rate and his numbers could be impacted. I was flabbergasted!! Bill then said he would not go forward with creating a plan for my child until he could speak with the rest of the family. At this point, Stepmom has called Bill numerous times and he has refused to speak with her on the phone. How incredibly unprofessional and antiquated!! Needless to say we will be attempting to find other resources for my child. We feel discriminated against based upon our family situation. Apparently if you aren't married, in the same household with 2.5 children, Huntington will not work with you!!
