As for the other staff- they were very unorganized, rang me through the ringer, sent me in every direction without any help. in 9th grade my daughter started attending visions in education university prep online school, she did well the first year it was when everything was still crazy everywhere during Covid and she was just glad to not be doing school the way she had to for online school when Covid first hit because it was kinda a mess at her school she was attending before because they weren't prepared to start teaching students from home instead of in person which was understandable because it was new for everyone. Then the next year for 10th grade my daughter became depressed from having no outside contact with people her age and started falling behind having a hard time paying attention and the main homeroom teacher from Visions and the Vice Principal came up with a plan during our meeting, my daughter was to focus on only a couple of the classes and completely drop the rest of them, they were supposed to be dropped and not shown on her transcript, we followed the plan that they came up with even though my daughter did not want to do that, she wanted to try to catch up on all the classes, but we followed the instruction of the teacher and vice principal, at the beginning of of the next semester my daughter was then supposed to be switched to independent study. Instead of waiting until the beginning, they switched her at the end which caused her grades to drop even more for the first semester as work was not completed due to this, we also had to wait to hear from the new teacher and the counselor to get classes and instruction on how thee program worked for independent study vs. online instruction, and additionally they did not drop the classes from her transcript's that we were told would be dropped that they instructed her to stop attending and the Classes and doing the work in. So not only did the classes she was instructed to work on and brought her grades up in not matter because they switched her befire the end of the semester and it made those grades drop which we did not know was going to happen when they had her switch to independent study before the end of the semester, the other classes still also show up as her failing them even though they instructed her to not do them and said they would be dropped and not count against her and show on her transcript as an f. I tried several times to contact them and have them correct the issue but they will not change anything and now even though she has had all A's and a couple B's thrown in here and there throughout all of her 9th 11th and 12th grade high school career she only has a 2.9 GPA because it shows she had failed all her classes for half the 11th grade year. This actually ruined her chances of getting scholarships and being able to apply to and get into college besides a community college when they were actually supposed to be helping her chances of getting into college even more than in a regular in person public school. She has worked hard and gotten good grades in all her classes and is several of the school band divisions including Marching Band after school and competing in Band reviews on weekends and participating and Volunteering in events within the city, was in the county honor band twice which is not the school band it is another extra curriculum across that shows her commitment and excellence in music, she has had her artwork on exhibit and even made cartoons on YouTube that had millions and millions of views, and atrended classes on the UC Berkeley campus during summer and actually designed and made her own working video game, but she can't get into a college thanks to the direction of the vice principal and her university prep teacher and counselor at vision in education university prep that switched her over before the end of the semester. So all of her hard work to get into college did her no good. She is now discouraged because she is a senior and although she is going to graduate with straight A's this year in a couple months and will attend a community college, she feels discouraged and it has hurt her confidence and made it impossible to go to a 4 year university directly after high school. She had planned to apply to UC Berkeley and USC since she was a small child but now will be attending a community college instead and her chances of getting scholarships and grants based on academics and extracurriculars, merit, volunteering, are greatly reduced in both what is available to her to apply for and the actual dollar amounts of the awards she would use when she tries to transfer into a 4 year college if they accept her are also greatly reduced. read more

If I could give this school a zero I would but I cannot so I give it a one. This school is HORRID ( as a student). Teacher is messaging me 24/7 he's so obsessed with me, like LEAVE ME ALONE. It's not even like he's concerned, it's more like Powertrip emails "If you don't do iready I'm going to have to unenroll you". He emails me at least 9 times a day and my mom 15 times a day, each time i see a new email i want to go back to sleep. He texts my mom more than I do, and that's a lot. He consistently threatens to unroll me. Yes, they do give 2000 dollars for school supplies I HOPE THAT CAN PAY FOR MY THERAPY ( it can't they deny everything). The principal denied getting me an IEP/ 504 plan (I have autism and a set of social anxiety/Generalized anxiety) because "I get straight A's you don't seem to have any problems doing school work ", yes I do get straight A's but then my teacher is on me about not completing iready ( awful online school program which is my participation for the school day), I CANNOT FOCUS... I CAN ONLY FOCUS ON IN-BOOK HANDHELD PAPER ASSIGNMENTS. Also, they have yet to pay for my music lessons WHICH they make you choose one and they pay for it ( yay) BUT NO, they keep denying the payments so she isn't getting paid, they now owe her like 300 dollars. If your kids have disabilities don't bring them to this school, in general for everyone ignore the good reviews and listen to this one. Public school is better than this, I'm not even in homeschool to skip grades and stuff I'm in homeschool because I have bad anxiety. BUT this SCHOOL triggers my anxiety way more than in-person school. HE ALSO ALWAYS SAYS " I have 50+ children and non of them have problems), #1 he's saying that because I cannot focus and do iready because of my autism. #2 he's so lying. They were also good at keeping is informed of his progress. They have a system for parents to monitor that shows us how much the kids are actually working. This school is the best at managing LBGTQIA and kids on the spectrum. They never balked at anything. read more

This place *slow nod* ...I can't even begin to tell you how great it has been for us. From the very first phone call with Robert, everything has been absolutely wonderful. It all started with a simple inquiry and quickly the ball was rolling for us. After that initial phone call we filled out the quick and easy online application and heard back almost immediately once we were matched with a Credentialed Teacher. A little backstory on our situation, my oldest is academically advanced in all areas. We knew that the school we had him in wasn't a good fit based on his learning style but we figured we would give it a shot since we had been told that in Montessori a child can work at their own pace. This wasn't the case according to my child and it wasn't the case from what I witnessed when I had volunteered. I started researching options and everything fell right into place once I was recommended to reach out to the folks at Visions. Everything has been so smooth and wonderful with Visions that I'm always blown away as to why everyone doesn't do the homeschool thing!? Then I realized "Right! Most people work M-F 8-5!" which does not cater much to homeschooling a younger child. Got it. Well, if someone pulls the "social" card, I have to say that it hasn't been an issue for us. There are plenty of options for socialization during the day with other children via different programs and groups! Then in the afternoon and on weekends all options are available, for example sports and play dates etc. truly, the socialization issue shouldn't even be a concern. Our Credentialed Teacher, Laura Grove is absolutely wonderful. Of course chemistry will be different for everyone but she has been an excellent fit for us. Granted my kid hustles and I'm a bit of a "tiger mom" but I'm willing to bet that if neither of those are the case for you she would still be great. We have been to events hosted by Visions and they are even more enjoyable than the same type of event hosted by other schools! I was impressed and even kind of surprised. I hope this place is better now then it was when I attended omg. I remember this place was a nightmare. In 2001 I attended courses here for over a year. I transferred my records over from another school. I probably took about 90-100 units here. They had my transcripts from my old school too. The teacher told me I had 45 units left to go and I don't know exactly what happened but somehow the units went from having 45 units to go to them loosing my high school transcripts from my old school when I tried to transfer out. I had to take my entire high school criculium twice in my life beacuse of these people's mistake. What a way to start adulthood. I will never forget that. Those kind of mistakes can ruin your life. How could they have been so irrisposible with my transcripts. read more

You get out what you put in. If you want to graduate high school without reading ONE book, this homeschool is for you. If your child isn't going to be a multi-millionaire actor by age 15, do society a favor and keep him in an actual school where he will learn how to function with "difficult" people in the world. This school is like no other school i have known. The way they teach is like no other school. Really my son is able to learn independently the way that works for him. The way the students feel about different topics is the main focus rather then a bunch of facts and dates the teacher decided the students need to know. They do inadvertently learn all the important stuff by doing there own research but then the questions they are asked focus so much the their opinions. This has made my son feel inspired to answer. He gets to write about how he feels about a huge variety of topics. Even math has been much easier. No one at the school will ever be condescending to my son he always feels relevant and smart. We used to homeschool on our own and trying to teach him to write was exhausting and made my son feel bad about himself. Since starting at Visions he has realized that he loves writing and that he is an exceptionally good writer. Which I always knew (just saying). Well i cant say enough good about this school if your child is independent and needs to learn by doing it themself. As well as the teachers and other faculty are all just to great for words. My sons teacher is unbelievable. When my son and her have thier meetings they always talk much longer then she has to and then my son will go on and on about everything they talked about. Can I add some stars? I can't say enough good things about Visions. We went from a stellar private school to a well-touted montessori charter school with high hopes for our kids' futures. Two weeks in, our hearts sank. Our kids were bogged down with homework every day that I didn't have the heart to force on them when they had been at school for 6+ hours already. They were stressed out by social pressures, overwhelmed by very full classes with kids of varying needs, and I could see that curious light fading from their eyes. We turned to Visions in Education out of desperation. My original plan was to homeschool my kids until we found a better solution. I didn't realize that Visions *was* that solution! We were allowed to choose our curriculum based on our children's learning styles. We were given a generous fund to supplement their base curriculum with classes (Visions hosts their own wide variety of on-campus classes twice a week too), lessons (my kids are doing gymnastics, snowboarding, and horse back riding), and field trips. Our Certified Teacher that visits monthly is fabulous and always available if we need a little help or tips on getting a concept down. There are school-wide events (talent showcase, harvest festival, picnics, book fairs, etc) just like traditional school as well. The very best part, the part I never could have predicted, is how I've been able to get to know my children in a new light. They're brilliant little people that I am beyond fortunate to get to spend my days with. I have Visions to thank for allowing us this opportunity. read more

We were with Visions for six years. The first four were great and then our CT moved. The last two years were a nightmare. Homeschooling experience depends on the CT you get, which makes it an organizational issue as well. Not guaranteed that they will actually allow you to homeschool. This is totally weird yelping my school, but here goes. I loved going to Visions. I graduated in 2009. Before that I was in danger of not graduating at all in regular public school. My teacher met us every week. She answered every question I had, and encouraged me to succeed. I passed my exit exams with a high score and brought up my GPA. I graduated on time and am proud to report I went on to 2 more degrees. I became a published writer and film maker. I am currently aiming for my PhD. We have been with Visions for 4 years with one kid graduating from Visions. We tried public schools, private schools, our local independent study home school, online charter school (total bust on that one, the kids could not sit in front of a computer all day), and from that online charter school we went to Visions.THE BEST DECISION WE MADE!! From the start we saw how different this school is. The fast turn around on returning call and emails. The live person you have access to all through school hours unlike the online school who did not even return emails or calls. We live 2 hours away and they made it possible for us to send all paperwork through the mail or email. No unnecessary trips to Carmichael if they were not needed. The way Vision is set up is great too! As parents you have options on how to home school. I chose to home school where I prepare my kids curriculum. I had been doing this for years so we stuck to that. They have other options too! You can have the school do that for you and if your kids are in HS they may choose to attend the Edge program. Again I can not stress enough the support from the entire staff there!! When my HS kiddo wanted to attend our local jr college they walked us through the process and paid for his books. When my little one needs extra support I call up the special education department and they are so helpful every single time. The resource center, THE BEST, the staff is helpful and do not let you off the phone until they find an answer to your questions. I have been home schooling for 10 years and I really wish I would of started with Visions. I have a kiddo with an IEP and the support you are given is outstanding! He has blossomed at Visions!! Our CT is awesome! She is so caring and my kiddos love her and can not wait when she visits once a month. I know some families have had issues with their CT but the great thing about Visions is that you can ask for another teacher if you and that CT do not mesh well. We were so lucky to mesh well with ours so I think that is also why our experience with Visions has been so positive. I wish this school served the entire state because we have so many friends up and down CA who do not have the option of a school like Visions. We will be moving soon so we will miss Visions and it's staff and support. Please consider Visions if you are starting to home school or your current academic choice is not working for you. Getting close to the end of the year and have decided to update my review based on how the year went. As the year went on, I did experience frustration and discouragement about hearing often how I needed to supplement here and there and I tell you if I heard "the state standards...." one more time I was going to scream (I am anti-common core). But here's the deal - for our family - homeschool is a blessing and as in everything - education is very political and charter schools have a target on their backs unfortunately. So if you want to keep a blessing or benefit - sometimes you have to go above and beyond (because I know for fact that the local public schools that are funded are not meeting the standards - are they under a microscope? - that's for another day...). So be it - I will simply expose my little one to the myriad of "I cans" and while I do feel some of these standards are utterly ridiculous and stripping our little ones of innocent childhood times (kindergarten and needing to know about laws of motion - hmmm, really?), it is what it is and at least with homeschool, I can choose how to expose that to them and at what pace. And it is not Visions making this up - it is the state - it is the government and Visions is being vigilant about keeping those standards met. Sure - their reimbursement process is a headache but compared to other schools - it is really a lesser one after I did some calling around and for sure I have a had a year to get accustomed to it all. I did have to submit a year long lesson plan for each subject (did half a year at a time) and that takes time to do and when I told my friends at other charters this they were shocked and said they do not have to do that. Sounds appealing to switch to another charter to save on that work but I know how government works and I would rather do the extra work to appease them than lose the benefits. In the end, I decided I was content - my little one enjoyed his first year - we had stressful times at first as I felt the pressure to get those "I cans" completed but his CT would always assure me and the more she did that, the more I relaxed which helped my little one to relax and learn better. We are hoping to get our same CT this next year as she has really been quite understanding and professional towards my anti-whatever rants and in spite of it continues to keep me updated on what is expected in a non-judgmental way. This will be my 10th years with Visions. I have been privileged to watch it grow better and better with each passing year! I am in awe of what the staff here has been able to accomplish in order to offer the best education and enrichment opportunities to countless families. All three of my children have benefited immensely due to the progressive nature of this excellent academy. It is the best of both worlds, home school and the traditional classroom setting. You have the flexibility and independence home school can offer, combined with the supportive staff and countless social events, often perceived as something that must be sacrificed in a home school setting. Well, that is no longer the case! Two days a week Visions offers the most amazing Enrichment Classes which are held in a classroom setting, taught by top notch instructors. Every kind of art you can think of (and some you haven't), various fun varieties of PE, music, Spanish, creative writing, science, lego robotics and other really inspiring topics are there for the choosing. Truly the hardest part is choosing which one...because there will be more than one per class period for each age group. Additionally, they host Harvest Festivals, Science Fairs, Pumpkin Patch, Field Days, Talent Shows, Dances, and countless field trips throughout the year. My children have excelled in activities like dance, music, rock climbing, roller skating, skiing and snow boarding thanks to the funding available to Visions students, allowing for such exploration. Our CT (credentialed teacher) has become a very special part of our family. She has supported us through many years of academics and life's experiences. Always helping us to maintain perspective, while encouraging me and helping me to see how Visions can support us. This program allows for adjustments and flexibility to be a part of your children's education. This offers you the opportunity to see how your child's educational needs can best be met. Introduction and enrollment process is mechanical. Not the individualized, customer driven experience expected. Initial contacts are reading from scripts and the enrollment slideshow has a herd mentality - get 'em in & move 'em out. Many families are pleased by their decision to home school and are appreciative of the per student dollar credits available, BUT Visions is not impressive. The Carmichael location is inconvenient and requires that you triple check your car locked. Visions is great in theory, but lacking in application. read more

We have been with VIE for just over a year now and can honestly say...we are happy! Our CT (credentialed teacher) is well educated in the homeschooling path and can advise and support us easily on our journey. Every curriculum request is handled quickly and efficiently and monthly enrichment days are enjoyed by our children. If you have been a homeschooler for very long you are aware that there is a "public" school mentality and a "homeschool" mentality. Many times these homeschool charters still cling to that public school mentality....a method that does not work in the homeschool environment. So far Visions has been great! So many opportunities for my child to pick at which we love. My daughter loves Visions! She is doing so much better focusing on her schoolwork with Visions than she ever did in a traditional setting. No distraction and the best part NO BULLIES bringing her down. Disclaimer: this review and rating is based only on my enrollment experience only. I homeschool my daughter and since she will be six in December and I haven't been able to teach her to read, I decided I wanted more accountability and would look into enrolling her into an official school. Vision appears to have all of the things I want, choosing my own curriculum and being her teacher with help from a certified teacher on a somewhat regular basis. The only cons and red flags were that the certified teacher would be the one who decides whether your child gets credit for something and they have to approve of lesson plans but I have a friend who does it who seems content so I decided to go for it. They were completely helpful while I filled out my application, even faxing something to my doctor because I couldn't and reaching them at their email they have been very responsive. But after I submitted everything they're helpfulness ended. I called today to find out that placement for my daughter had not been found yet and that it probably wouldn't be anytime soon but that it was possible.These are my gripes: #1 You are kept completely in the dark from the moment you submit the paperwork with the only way of knowing what's going on is reaching out to them. You are only notified once your child is enrolled and not if your child is not, so you are just waiting to hear back and obviously if your want your child in school for a certain period of time, that is not even reasonable. Though their website says they are nearing full capacity in all areas but lists one area specifically, and says not to take your child out of their current school. If your child is not currently in an official school, you have no idea if where you are is reaching full capacity and in actuality you would be better off applying at Visions and another school and seeing which one you hear back from first. I would suggest, if you are not homeschooling currently and this is your child's first year, to either make a lesson plan for the school year yourself. If you are not, find another school and enroll them there and then apply to Visions as early as possible the next school year unless you can find the same offerings somewhere else, then there's no point in applying at all. #1 YOUR CHILD HAS TO BE VACCINATED IN ORDER TO ATTEND. I applied at Valiant online school, they say on their website that your child does not have to be vaccinated because there is no instruction that happens with other children. This website does not and when you apply they ask for vaccination records and then ask for you to fill out a health form for your child that has to be filled out by the doctor. You also have to have your child's dentists fill out paperwork. My sister has children in a physical public school and other than her children's vaccination records, she has not had to submit anything else yet on their website they say it is California law to have this paperwork filled out. #2 Since they do not list on their website when they start or stop receiving applications for the school year (which I was told today when I called that they start in February), you have no idea where they are and where you're coming in at all. Their school starts officially August 28th, I applied the beginning of August and I was too late (not sure if that's because of where I am or the number of students who are in the program). #3 They enroll kids all year long, I was not told this at all until today when I called. So anywhere between before school starts until whenever, my child could be placed officially in the program. At which point you can choose to take the child out. I think, if the child is not in the program from the beginning they should not accept anymore applications until the next school year. So people know to go someplace else. #4 I was told today that every step of the way during the application you are encouraged to have an alternative, this is a lie. I looked back over all of my emails and all over the e-register online website, and there is nothing that suggests any alternative only not to take your child out of their current school which is completely irrelevant if your child is a first time student. I thought I would at least be given an email saying, we cannot place your child at this current time please find another school. Your child's application will stay on file and when placement is found we will notify you, at which time you can choose to enroll your child officially into our program. But no, nothing. I was told by email a week ago, that it usually takes two weeks. Knowing school starts next week and I haven't heard back from anyone, I got the notion to call. Without that, I'd just be waiting. I would suggest that before you go through the trouble of applying, that you call them to see if they have the resources to actually place your child. I wish I would have. read more

We have been with Visions off and on since they were founded. It is well run, organized, staffed with caring and dedicated people and affords a lot of choice in methodology. We have had students in Homeschool academy and Edge. Both of my older children were accepted into good colleges. There is attention to social needs and tutoring for special needs. Although it is easier for Sacramento families to access everything offered, they have satellite locations in or near the neighboring districts. It is a perfect fit for homeschoolers who like accountability and don't mind a little structure. It is a harder fit for unschoolers. The voucher program is efficient and a terrific way to cater your child's education to their needs. I'm very happy with Visions. read more

If you want a school with no support system for your child and they're encouraged to google answers then this is the school for you. My son is learning disabled and has struggled all of his life with school. I thought that I could keep him away from the bullies he had been dealing with while getting a good education with Visions and boy was I wrong. He received no support. Was given a teacher that he met with once a week at the library and was told if he struggled with his assignments to google the answers. He wasn't given help to understand how to do what he struggled with. When he told his teacher he didn't understand his assignments she said if you can't figure it out then google the answer. So as long as you can google then you can pass. Who cares if you actually learn something. So if you send your child to this school...beware. They won't get any support or an actual teacher that teaches them. They get the power of google. The only thing the school cares about is the money the State gives them for your child. First time homeschool mom this 2017-2018 school year. One 3rd and one 4th grade. Both kids attended "brick and mortar" public school prior to this year. Decided to try Visions as 4th grader needed 1:1 teaching for ADD. The Accommodations provided last year at the "brick & mortar" did not help him. Child was slowing slipping behind in 3rd grade. This was very disappointing to watch. (school district Roseville area). Visions was recommended to us by several families whose children are enrolled here. So far, the staff at Visions and our teacher are very helpful and supportive. I also like that so much is available on their website/portal. (ordering curriculum, list of vendors, balance of funds etc) Emails have been answered in a reasonable amount of time. I received several follow-up calls before this school year even started asking if I had any questions. I liked that. This year we receive $2600 per student towards non-religious curriculum, and enrichment activities. It is wonderful to be able to select curriculum for each child individually. Our Visions teacher was helpful with this as the choices are numerous and can be overwhelming! I am the one teaching my children. Our Visions teacher is a support person, resource and basically my accountability person to ensure that the kids are on track and meeting grade level standards. She is not teaching them. I understand there are tutors available for those students who need. Which is great. I can text our Visions teacher during the day and email her with any question/concern. She responds promptly. The best charter school around. You don't have to live in the Sacramento area to be a part of Visions! I am a vendor, and I have to say, they are wonderful. The staff is so responsive and helpful whenever I need anything or have a question. More and more students are coming to Visions from the other charter schools. Great teacher, support staff. Been with Visions for 6 years. My son jumped 2 grade levels on standardised testing. With the local public school he was behind a year and slipping.Was only planning on staying for 2 years. Best thing I could have done for my child. read more

wonderful education system if you are want your kids to learn .

I am a sophmore at Visions in Independent Academy (University Prep). When it comes to high school, they are cheapskates. I have a budget leftover of $900, but but I am not allowed to use it. I cannot place an order for school supplies or order some music lessons. All sophmores and up have the chance to complete a directed project of student's personnal interest under teacher's supervision. But students are limited to spend only $75 for directed project!!! What can you buy for $75 our days? I am willing to use remaining balance on my account, but Visions doesn't allow it!!! For my remaining budget, I could've built something big that would have taught me a lot (a tech item)! The remaining budget for my 10th class is there, but I can't use it!!! Visions need to revise their Independent Study Program financial policies, otherwise they will lose their students to other schools like Inspire, which allows independent study students (when grading is done by a teacher for a high school student) to use every single penny of their budget! read more
