Dealership rating: After visiting 10 different dealerships in CT from Toyota to Mazda to BMW etc., the sales team was by far the most honest and hardest working of the lot. Every car dealer will make money, but this dealership will work with you. read more

Well I am going with five stars here for the sales department. Don't know why a few others had problems. I did have a couple hiccups but vigilance and knowing what you want go a long way. Persistence in negotiations helped. Salesmen were knowledgeable in the vehicle and accommodating to all my questions. Patience with the customer is a good trait to have for repeat business. Finance part went smoothly, a quicker and easier than I expected, and my terms were better than the bank had given me. Although you can't beat zero percent. read more

Honestly just don't buy a Hyundai. I bought a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in 2015. It had TONS of recalls over the years, but the one that really did it in, was the "safety plug" recall in 2023-2024. We moved to CT a few years ago, and started using Meriden Hyundai. Honestly every experience was worse than the last, and based on these reviews, I likely didn't need brake pads when they replaced them. Oil changes always took hours, and they always came up with something they declared that the car needed. Mind you, I hardly put 6k miles on the car a year, and it had a total of 90k miles on it when I got rid of it. The last straw was the THIRD time after the safety plug recall fix that the car told me while I was driving down the road "hybrid battery safety warning, stop and turn off the car" each time I did this, the car would turn back on with the check engine light on. The first time, I had it towed to the dealership, they laughed, saying I could have driven it there. Each time, they "inspected the car" they would say there were no codes, and magically the check engine light was off after they got ahold of it. The last time they said the same, after keeping it for three days when they scheduled us for a 1.5 hour appointment, then drove it for four miles to "make sure." Needless to say, I no longer trusted Hyundai Corporate or this service department. We did ask them for a sell quote and after an entire day, they shouted $2500 at us when we went to get the car. We traded it in to another dealership (with all problems declared), the next day for $4000. Do yourself a favor. Don't buy a Hyundai (or a Kia), but if you still have one, avoid this place at all costs. read more

The service department is a joke. Our 3 year old Santa Fe was running rough and misfiring, apparently a spark plug issue. It took 1 day to diagnose, a second day to determine they didn't have enough spark plugs on hand to change them and a third day to complete the service. The whole thing should have been covered under warranty considering the age of the plugs but they decided, only one spark plug (and no additional service including fuel and air purge) would be covered. Three years old and not covered? We had advised them of this problem at the prior oil change but were told they couldn't find anything wrong. Very poorly managed service department. read more

I received a letter back at the begginning of this year -2026- from Hyundai stating that i needed to call to schedule the installation of some security software. I gave them my VIN # and was told that i would get a call when the part came in. I called 2 more times in the following months and was told the same thing. My VIN was needed both times. No phone call from their service department in 5 months. Where is this part? Meriden Hyundai's service department has gotten less and less customer based. It was a miracle that i was able to speak with someone on any of these occasions. I was on hold for quite a long time. Why? I've forgotten about this all important software and have been taking my hard earned money someplace else read more

What a great experience I had buying my car from Meriden Hyundai. My salesman was Odell and he was extremely helpful. There was complete transparency with pricing and no pressure for extras. Everyone made me fell comfortable and they promptly took care of any issues I had. I would recommend this dealership for anyone looking for a car. read more

After a routine fluid service the tech gave my car a test drive, a procedure that the Service Manager, Bub Dowd, always insists on, just as a final check. The tech heard a rattle that turned out to be a serious vapor leak involving the PCV system. A new part was ordered and installed perfectly. read more

Looking for a dealership without integrity well you've found it. Found out they sold off the Genesis half of their business without a handoff procedure for their customers that had purchased cars from them. That's a big fuck you to their customers. I looked to this dealership for reliable and commitment going through the task of a car purchase. The process was somewhat smooth while going through the purchase but then everything changes drastically only four months later. I was stuck 190 miles away with one of their vehicles that had less than 20,000 miles. I called the service department and explained the situation to both Amy and Javier (who I purchased the vehicle through) and was reassure that they would take care of the difference in towing cost. I was very direct in regard to this reimbursement and assured everything was all set, but they didn't have a loaner for me. Once the long weekend was over, I phoned Amy and 4 days later and was told it was the injectors and they would be replaced once they could order the part. Three additional days later I got no response from Amy or Javier. I was told Amy was no longer working there. So now I reached out to Javier and he stated there was no conversation about reimbursement, and he already spoke with the owner Tod who said he "won't cut a check '. So once the purchase was made, interest in customer care and reliability vanished! Very poor customer care and will make sure I pass this along while working with the corporate office to get this ratified. read more

First, I rate their Sales Department 4/5. No complaints. Their Service Department, however, is a whole different story. I rate it 1/5. Calls for service often go answered, and when you request a callback your request is often ignored. This has been the case with me for over 5 years. Even after complaining to the Service Manager, no real improvement. My biggest complaint is how long it takes to get a service appointment; even a simple oil change. Earlier this week I called to schedule a simple oil change for my Genesis G70. The Service Advisor told me their next available date was November 6. 6 weeks to get in for an oil change? I reluctantly scheduled the date. My next call was to Genesis of Milford. The very polite and professional Service Advisor checked my VIN for any recalls and then told me that I could come in that very afternoon at 2:00pm. They also had open availability any day next week! Wow! 6 week wait vs. same day or next week. I scheduled my oil change for next week and then called Genesis of Meriden/Meriden Hyundai to cancel the appointment I had just made. The same Service Advisor asked why I was canceling, so told her the 6 week wait was unacceptable and that I got an appointment next week at Genesis of Milford. She then proceeded to make the excuse that two Genesis dealerships in Danbury and Old Saybrook closed, putting a bigger load on Genesis of Meriden/Meriden Hyundai. Wow! So how then do you explain 4-6 week lead times going back to 2022? This is not a new issue. As much as I've liked my Meriden Hyundai/Genesis sales experiences, I'm done with their Service Department. They need to make some radical changes there if they hope to succeed in the future. Poor and unprofessional service won't bring customers back. It will send them to other dealerships like Genesis of Milford. At this point, Meriden Hyundai/Genesis has lost a long time customer of over 15 years. read more

Great, truly. I did not buy a Hyundai, but a trade in and I must say that I was impressed. Spencer W., the used car manager was open, warm and welcoming. My 2016 Hyundai Genesis with under 24,000 miles on it has been at the dealership now for 18 days for service to fix a first and third cylinder misfire. The car was diagnosed to need spark plugs and ignition coils on the number one and three cylinders. Also an engine flush was recommended. Also there is a recall concerning the car catching on fire and not to park it in the garage. I okayed that all services be performed. Calling the dealership to speak to Evan my service advisor does no good. I get connected to his phone and am asked to leave a message and he will get back to me asap. I made an appointment for my Genesis G80 more than a month in advance for a factory recall and to have my transmission fluid changed. I made sure that this wouldn't take more than a few hours and could wait around while the work was being done. I arrive on the day of my appointment only to find out that not only did they not order the part for the recall but the tech who does transmission work wouldn't be able to do my car that day. What was the point of making an appointment if they weren't doing to order the part and make sure someone was available to do the work. I was not able to get either of the requested things done that day. I will now be driving nearly double the distance to any of the other Genesis dealers in the state to avoid this dealership. Not to mention it is nearly impossible to get anyone in the service department on the phone. Terribly run business, would give 0 stars if I could read more

Service department is courteous and detailed oriented. Sales staff is actually not pushy and aggressive in their approach and tactics.

I was looking for a specific car that is apparently not easy to find in CT. I called a few dealers and nothing was in stock and what was had already been sold waiting on pick up. I spoke to Elliot and he answered all of the questions I had on the vehicle. I decided to stop in and speak to the Sterlynn who is the sales manager for Genesis. Between him and Elliot we found a car and I was driving off with it 4 days later. They were extremely communicative and involved. I will certainly deal with them in future and recommend to everyone that needs a new car. read more

My experience with Odell in selecting and purchasing a vehicle went very well. he was very patient and took time to answer all of my questions. He showed me a great assortment of Genesis SUV and I decided on an GV70. The finance manager was very courteous and explained all my options well. I was able to secure my vehicle and pick it up that same evening after detailing. Odell also agreed to arrange time to assist me with any additional questions after purchase. I am very happy that I selected Genesis of Meriden. Thank you Odell. read more

I wish you could leave zero stars. The dealership damaged my vehicle, and today the owner, Tod Moynihan, actually yelled in my face after they've had my car for two months. It started with an oil change where they said my radiator was cracked. While replacing the radiator they damaged my bumper. The autobody shop did such a bad job fixing it there was overspray on my lights, the color wasn't even close to matching, and the bumper wasn't put back on correctly. The owner, Todd Moynihan actually said," looks perfect to us!" They didn't update me at all during this whole process. At one point, they had my car back for 2 days and never called me. I had to call them after tracking my own car through the app. I asked when they were going to call me and let me know I could come pick it up, and they had no response. After going to pick my car up for the second time, it was somehow worse than the first time. The service Manager, Bub Dowd, offered to repaint the bumper for a third time, I left my car there for the GM, Harold Oliver, to get involved. I was told on a Friday that Harold Oliver wasn't available, and he would reach out to me. I emailed him on Monday, and he didn't respond to multiple messages. After several emails and a voicemail, they got back to me on Friday. Now they've had my car (that I'm still making monthly payments on) for an additional week. I went in to meet with Tod Moynihan and Harold Oliver. Neither of them had the decency to introduce themselves to my nor my brother in law. Not only did they refuse to do anything, they had the audacity to yell at me. Tod actually leaned across his desk, raised his hands and yelled in my face. This after breaking my car during a radiator fix, holding on to it for 2+ months, diminishing the value of my car by making it look like it was fixed from a front end collision, and not communicating with me. Tod said the $150 offer the service manager previously offered to me was fair. Mind you their labor rate is $156/hr, so the compensation for them damaging my property doesn't even cover the cost of 1 hour of labor for a future service. Tod ended up throwing me out of his office for simply trying to have a conversation with him and even threatening to call the police. The scum bags even went as far as to bump into my brother in law and claim, "he pushed me" and start something that way. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS DEALERSHIP! They truly DO NOT care about their customers and throughout this process tried brushing me off hoping I would just go away, probably because I am a female. The ownership is disgusting, and it really does trickle down to the management level. read more

I want to make clear I'm giving them a one star review strictly because of their service. I have had no problems with sales (I've bought two vehicles from them over the last five years). Their service is so poor that I am still waiting for a call from something they were supposed to do back on May 10th (today is August 9th). I actually got rid of the 2021 vehicle I purchased from them, mainly because I didn't want to deal with them any longer. Unfortunately, prior to all of that my daughter purchased a vehicle from them and has also experienced how poor their service is. They actually tried to bribe me with a free oil change to lie on a survey from Hyundai and say that the service was great - sorry, but my dignity is worth a bit more than a free oil change. I'm an old fart - and have never experienced service this bad from any dealer, any brand, at any time. Don't waste your money - unless you are able to have the vehicle serviced elsewhere. read more

Went for a scheduled oil change and it took over two hours. Terrible customer service here.

I had hoped that purchasing a new car would be a positive experience, but it has turned out to be the exact opposite. Meriden Hyundai sold me the correct car, but let me drive off with the wrong VIN number and wrong license plate registered. This forced me to have to come back on the same Friday night to sign all new documents again and change my license plates. No one from Meriden contacted my bank to accurately verify the loan amount. I called my bank on May 22nd requesting for the payoff information. May 22nd was the start of the 10-15 day payoff. I called Meriden Hyundai requesting information about the payoff date. Linda informed me that a check would be mailed on Monday, June 4th. No one from Meriden Hyundai contacted me to inform me that the check didn't go out because no supervisor was available.  Meriden Hyundai paid the loan on June 6th. A day later than the original payoff date. I have left multiple emails (6/5,6/7, 6/12) to Javier and he has yet to respond/ acknowledge that he receive them. Even if I call, I am always told that he is busy and I get transferred to his voice mail that he never checks. Javier told me I would receive a $50.00 check for making a referral. It's been 3 weeks now and I have yet to receive it. Save your time and energy and go somewhere else. The hassle and frustration that Javier and staff will put you through is not worth it. I was suppose to refer two friends to Meriden Hyundai, but instead I told them to go to a different Hyundai (Lia Hyundai in Hartford) and they received excellent service. Update as of 6/19 Javier continues to ignore my emails/voice massages. I call and I am always told that he is busy with a customer. I leave the front desk staff my name and phone number to receive a phone call back and I don't get my calls returned. Most companies do whatever it takes to ensure a customer is happy, but Meriden Hyundai has done the complete opposite. I always give the benefit of the doubt that this was an isolated incident, but clearly they don't care about their customers. I'll be taking my business to a different Hyundai in the future. read more

By far the worst costumer service ever, every employee in the service department talks to you with the worst attitude ever. We were told we could pick up our vehicle anytime during business hours then when we got there they said that they could not find our keys. The employee Amy just says what do you want me to do about it, I'm new so you will just have to come back Monday. Amy didn't care what so ever. I told her to Call the person who i was working with who had the day off to ask him where my keys were. After 45 minutes I finally got my keys that were right on the rack where all the keys were. My husband and I purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe from Meriden Hyundai and had an incredible experience. Our salesman Javier was very courteous, professional and helpful. No pressure just assistance. Even the owner was there to greet us and make us feel welcome. When it came time to pick up the car, Javier gave us a thorough tutorial on each and every feature. I honestly do not have one negative thing to say about the dealership. We have purchased many cars from other dealerships and this was by far, our best experience. read more

Service department scam. Pay attention! They charge 150.00 in labor. This is how they are making money in a poor economy. True facts, so be smart. I was a loyal customer to this dealership for 25 years. I've bought 4 cars....Now, during suffering times, they are pulling scams on unsuspecting people. I went in for a routine oil change on my 3 year old 2019 Tucson with only 30,000 miles. I was told that I needed emergent brakes and that my car was unsafe and unsafe to drive off the dealership. 800.00 later, being skeptical and upset and physically sick, i asked to see the used brake pads. The manager gave it to me and i took it home. I showed my husband and he was outraged because the pads were barely used and didnt need replacement. We went to another garage and got a second opinion. The pads were good for at least another 10,000 miles. I was so mad, my husband was so mad. He went back to the dealership the next day and spoke to the owner Tom Monahan. The maker said that labor is hard to come by so that's why the cost of the job was high.. he also agreed that the pads didn't need emergent replacing. He tried to appease my husband by offering a service customer card with 100.00 on it. Thanks, but no thanks. They lost my trust, loyalty and respect. I was told it was unsafe, so I got scared and they used that tactic to take advantage of me. I'm just glad that I had the sense to get the used pad. Now I know the gimmick these dealerships use to make money and meriden huyndai should be ashamed and discounted that they take advantage of good customers that do have at least a little where with all. So learn from my experience. Do not use the dealership service department. Unless you have warranty. There is always somewhere else that would value you as a customer and never take advantage of you with scare tactics for money. It should be illegal. I'll never buy another vehicle from them again. In fact I'm thinking of trading in the hyundai and leaving the whole huyndai family because of this. There is always a better Mae vehicle with better morals for customer service that truly care about there cars and customers. Don't use the service department at meriden huyndai read more

If I could leave less then one star, I would. First off, let me say that I visited Meriden Hyundai, had a horrible experience, drove an hour to Danbury and am so glad I did because I bought a great, CPOed Sonata in better condition for less money. Meriden over inflates their prices. They think their used/certified cars are worth more than they are. They are over Kelley Blue Book and NADA prices. But if you tell them that, they get defensive and snarky; do your homework! I went there for a sales event. I called ahead, they knew I was coming. It took the salesman (who had 9 years of sales experience), 1.5 hours for us to test drive one car and give me an estimate on my trade in. He held my key hostage so I could not leave. When I tried to move things along quicker, he'd walk away to go do something... I didn't not appreciate the games he played. When I made a reasonable offer on the car, they got offended and said no way, we can't do that... they eventually came down to my price after 45 minutes. But I left without purchasing anything because they made me late for an appt. I was not happy with the service at all. Instead, I went to Danbury Hyundai and just purchased a certified Sonata GLS with less miles than theirs for less money. I could not be happier with the car the salesman had picked for me after I told him what I was looking for. Save yourself some frustration. If you want a Hyundai, go to Danbury! read more

Alright, the whole new car buying experience kind of sucks. This place brings the suck to a minimum. 1. They have a large selection cars, making it easier to negotiate for a car on the lot you actually want. 2. The sales man, (Frank Kimball), was low key. He told you what was cool about the car, without going overboard, or trying to be too showy. Yes, he played whole "let me talk to my manager" gag but a. He didn't make you sit and wait more than 5 minutes b. He didn't send his manager in as his enforcer on the price. 3. The whole process was quick and painless, financing approved within minutes, plates and registration were ready as quick as you could pick up the car. All and all I had a good experience, would recommend them if you are looking for Hyundai. read more

Had appointment for oil change which took 1 hour and 25 minutes. The service aid good but the service department is a bit chaotic. Others there with no appointment but cars being looked at. Horrible!!!! I never want to give this place my business again. A few years ago, I thought I was getting a GLS Sonata. They sold me a GL instead and charged me for a GLS! I had to take time off of work to meet with the sales rep and get my money back. Their were few differences between both models, but a big difference in price so they thought they could rip me off! I didn't want to go back again, but I love Hyundai cars and they're the closest dealership to where I live. So my husband told me to at least go and test drive what I wanted. I thought I'd talk price, so I made an offer. They made me sound like I was stupid to even consider they would sell it to me at the price I offered, gave me the whole run-around, only to accept my offer after hours of negotiating and waiting. They didn't want to give me what I wanted in the color I wanted, when years back they easily got it for me no questions asked (although it was the wrong model-see above). They tried selling me a car (the color I wanted) but it had a couple thousand miles on it, and I want to get the most out of the warranty. They won't go out of their way to give the consumer what they want. They're more concerned about selling only what they have in stock, not going out of their way making the customer happy. I got the car I wanted for the price I wanted within the first ten minutes of walking into the Waterbury Hyundai dealership. They had the model in my color, but it had a few extras (special mirror, mud guards,etc...) that I didn't need nor want to pay for. But they let me get it for the price I wanted, and threw in those extras free! I recommend the Waterbury Hyundai. It was quick and hassle free. I will NEVER SET FOOT in the Meriden Hyundai EVER again! They are crooked people who will patronize you and take you for a fool!!!! read more
