I stop by the Meredith's Bread booth almost every week at the Columbia Greenmarket. I love their sugar-free blueberry banana mini loaf. It has just the right amount of sweetness from the bananas and blueberries. On most days, it's moist and dense. Occasionally, it seems like they have a dry batch, which is disappointing. I've gotten their scones a couple of times but I wouldn't recommend: they're a bit dry and lacking in flavor. Recently, I've also tried the 7-grain, carrot pineapple, and zucchini nut muffins. The 7-grain muffin well exceeded my expectations. It was grainy and sweet, almost had a cornbread-like quality. Carrot pineapple was fine, but a little too dry. The zucchini nut was the sweetest muffin of the three; it was moist but I think I typically prefer something less sweet in the morning. I'm also a fan of their 7-grain bread. I picked up some products at the White Plains Farmers Market and they blew me out of the water. It's hard to find gluten free products that taste amazing, I tried the biscotti, pumpkin cookies, reverse chocolate chip cookies and focaccia bread and I want more of it all amazing is an understatement. I also picked up some gluten filled bread for the fam and was told it was delicious!! Cannot wait for my next trip! read more

Had my first encounter with Meredith's Bread products when my in-laws picked me up some Chocolate Spelt Biscotti at a farmers market. HEAVEN! I can't eat wheat, but I can eat spelt (which is a slightly different grain--not necessarily OK for people who eat a gluten-free diet, but I only have a problem with wheat, not with gluten itself). The very next day after I received this present, my husband and I went to the Westchester County Indoor Farmers Market at the County Center. Meredith's Bread had a stand there! We bought some more delicious goodies, including some fabulous Spelt Cinnamon Bread. The Spelt Cinnamon Bread is SO amazingly good. It's my new favorite breakfast food. I have a feeling that we will be tracking these folks down as often as we can, even though the farmers markets they participate in generally aren't too convenient for us (we live in White Plains, and they do farmers markets in the Somers area--that's not too bad, though; just farther than we usually go for this kind of thing. We'll just have to change our routine!). :) I wish they didn't put soy in their spelt muffins, so I could try one. They look really good. read more

What I'm trying to say is... YUM!!!! HOORAY!!!!!! YES!!!!!!! On a whim I picked up a loaf of Meredith's (organic whole wheat) bread at my local greenmarket, honestly expecting it to be nothing special. WRONG. This bread is delicious....healthy and earthy tasting but also sweet and rich somehow....I ate it all by itself and was quite content. I have since gone back to get the 7 grain bread (Just as good as the organic whole wheat) as well as two mini loaves of banana and zucchini bread (just a dollar!) and a mushroom quiche. The quiche was wonderful! I enjoyed it with fresh veggies from the market and my stomach is seriously happy. i plan to try everything at Meredith's via my weekly visit to her stall at the market before the summer is out. That will be in a small amount of conflict with my weight-loss plans...but.... the side salad obviously makes me a health fanatic. Try Meredith's! read more

I discovered them through the farmer's market at Bowling Green. They have a whole host of baked delights that they largely sell through farmer's markets in the area. They use no preservatives, all organic ingredients, and insist on the best quality ingredients. Good to know, but in the end my reverse chocolate chip cookie was still just okay. The varying texture was unusual, and it was a bit sweet, even for a cookie. I would probably try them again, but I would not be enamored with the idea or approach their stand with zeal next time. read more

I am on Weight Watchers and trying to limit added sugar. On the way to our vacation in the Adirondacks, we stopped at a thruway rest stop and there was a weekend greenmarket. I picked up one of Meredith's no sugar added blueberry mini pies. Absolutely delicious! So good that on the way home, I stopped at the same green market and bought the 3 no sugar added mini pies they had left - 2 blueberry and 1 black cherry. Even better if you heat it up in the toaster oven first so the crust is warm and flaky. I may have to resort to mail order now! read more

I was in Kingston visiting family recently and was delighted to find this bakery with great gluten-free items. The gluten-free rosemary olive bread was so delicious and so were the gluten-free banana chocolate muffins. I can't eat gluten for health reasons and so it was delightful to find a bakery with so many safe, delicious gluten-free options at such good prices. I highly recommend this place and will stop there whenever I am in Kingston. And plan to mail order some gluten-free treats sometime soon. read more

I am so very impressed with this baker. My friends and I were heading upstate for a backyard barbecue when the driver had to make a sudden pit stop. At that pit stop, we happened upon the vendor for Meredith's Bread. I have to say that living in New York City gives residents an opportunity to try good biscotti. But when I tried Meredith's Bread's spelt classic biscotti, I was immediately won over. It's the best biscotti I have ever tasted. It's not so bone dry that you can crack a tooth on or soak up coffee into it so that it can get a little soft. This biscotti was absolutely perfect on its own. If you've never tasted a GREAT biscotti, Meredith's would be the one to get! I certainly am hoping I can find this little delight somewhere in the City. If not, I will go so far as to advocate for their presence here simply for my own pleasure and convenience. read more

meredith's bread comes near my work place and i like getting baked goods from them for breakfast. they have a very good selection of pies, cookies, muffins, scones, etc. i've tried their muffins (blueberrry [good!], banana nut [too sweet, but i did find huge chunks of bananas in it, awesome!]), cranberry walnut scone (more dense, muffin-like than crumbly, english-style. it has lots of dried cranberries and huge chunks of walnuts mixed in), and i also picked up the raspberry fruit bar to try today. the pies looked tempting as well, the large ones go for $11 i believe. the lady at the booth is super sweet and i really enjoyed all the stuff i got from them, they're usually not-too-sweet, and filled with lots of fruits and nuts. for only $2, you can get a freshly-made, huge, and super-filling breakfast? now that's a treat. read more

I tried a few of their items at a local farmer's market and was greatly impressed! We bought their chocolate biscotti, a cherry pie, an oatmeal cookie, and a chocolate cookie-- all were truly phenomenal! I'm not sure if I had gluten-free products or not, as that doesn't matter much to me. All were fantastic, and some of the best bakery items I've ever had! My review is going to focus on their scones. The cheese and jalapeño scone is a nice way to start a meal but you may want some water. The chocolate chip scone is a good way to finish a meal. Both have a lot of dough that has that artisanal taste with he little white flour smear on the bottom. Pretty good stuff! read more

I pick up the goodies during the Tuesday Farmer's Market down in Zucotti Park (which is now overrun with the Wall Street protestors). I haven't been down to the park for a few weeks now, and I've been craving the baked goodies. I really appreciate the fact that the bakers use local, fresh ingredients, and that the ingredients are listed on the packaging. I've had everything from their cookies to their mini cakes to their muffins to their biscottis. I love them all. I just wish the calorie counts came with the cakes so I know when to stop eating! I was going to pick up dog treats for a friend, but she noted that the dog treats were made with molasses, which aren't really that conducive to K-9 health. Hopefully the bakers can get the dog treats veterinarian approved. read more

I have been dealing with Meredith's baking products in Manhattan for about ten years. I have been purchasing their Gluten free products over that period of time. I have found over that period of time, a number of their products are undercooked (the gluten free carrot cake & scones) to the point of being raw on the interior. When I finally manifested the problem to the person an charge of quality control he was dismissive, I was told I was the first to complain and a generally defensive attitude. I often stop here to pick up a baked good or two whenever I am working in the Bowling Green area of Manhattan. Right before I hop on my train to go home, I stop and peruse for some wholesome goodness. They have a booth set up right in front of the Bowling Green train station every day. I have tried their muffins and pies. My personal favorite is the carrot cake muffin. Made with organic and fresh ingredients, this moist and delightful muffin should not be missed. At $2.00 a pop, you can't ask for more. They are big in size and every bite is delicious. If you want fresh, organic baked goods and happen to be downtown, stop by Meredith's and I dare you to see if you can leave there with just one item. Highly recommended. read more

Great bread, muffins, and black and white cookies! I recommend the Sun-Dried Tomato/Garlic/Basil or the Garlic and Herb Round loaves...so soft and tasty, it's a meal in itself. They often have a huge variety of breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, etc. at their Farmer's Market locations. I used to buy from Meredith's every week at the Tarrytown Farmer's Market, but since I no longer live there, I might partake in ordering on the web (they're not doing any market that are close to me, unfortunately). Meredith's Bread comes to a bi-weekly farmer's market a block away from where I work at Bowling Green (literally right outside of the 4/5 subway station). There's another bakery there that offers gluten-free products, but I decided to try some of Meredith's Bread's products for a change. The cookies are a little bit dry, but I've pretty much come to expect that for products using rice flour instead of whole wheat flour. Their taste was delicious! I wish they had had some more chocolate chips in them. The gluten-free pumpkin bread, though, is the BEST I've had in a long, long time - including the ones I had before having to make the GF switch! It's a perfect blend of sweet and pumpkin, and the texture is ridiculously good. Tastes like the real stuff! read more

I've never been to the actual farm in Kingston but they do attend Columbia's farmer's market (114th & Broadway) on Thursdays and the baked goods are so delish! my faves include the zucchini walnut loaf, oatmeal cookies, and the carrot loaf. If only they would put the nutrition information their goods, I would give them 5 stars! I came across their stand at the Washington Heights farmers market, and have been getting their carrot bread each week! There are no preservatives. It's their best seller, no surprise, and a very good price at $5. My coworkers and I love it, their breads also make a great gift. The blueberry banana bread seemed dry and not as good since it was sugarless, maybe good if you need to reduce sugar intake. I would drive to Kingston if it was a little closer. read more

Okay biscotti, bad bread. Stay away from their sourdough baguettes- they put some kind of egg wash on it and sell it way past its best-by date. Biscotti was nice, though definitely not traditional- it was fluffy and moist, chewy and soft. More like a kind of oversized cookie. read more
