I stopped in on the Fourth of July to grab a couple of drinks to go. There were only a handful of customers in the bar and around five bartenders working, so I expected service to be quick. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When we walked in, we sat at an almost empty bar. One bartender made eye contact with me from the other side of the bar, then looked away. I figured she might have assumed we needed a minute to look at the menu, even though a simple "Hi, I'll be right with you" would have been appreciated. I was only ordering a beer, so I didn't need much time. Three to five minutes passed with absolutely no acknowledgment. No greeting, no "I'll be right with you," not even another glance in our direction. Meanwhile, all five bartenders were standing together behind the bar talking among themselves while we were completely ignored. At that point, we were getting frustrated. We even stood up, hoping someone would finally acknowledge us. My friend suggested we just leave, but I couldn't believe what was happening. As we started to walk out, I decided to go to the other end of the bar and ask if we could order. I approached one of the bartenders and politely asked, "Excuse me, are we able to order?" She apologized and took our order right away. What really left a bad impression, though, was what happened next. After we received our drinks, one of the bartenders who had been standing with the group turned around and said, "Have a nice night," in an unmistakably sarcastic tone. It felt completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I've never experienced service like this before. Being ignored for nearly 10 minutes in a mostly empty bar with five bartenders on duty was disappointing enough, but the sarcastic comment afterward made the experience even worse. If management or the owners would like to verify what happened, I encourage them to review the security cameras. We arrived around 8:50 p.m., walked to the other end of the bar around 9:00 p.m., and this occurred on July 4. I hope this was simply an isolated incident because no customer should feel ignored or unwelcome when they walk into a business. read more

Upon walking in the atmosphere was nothing like what any of the advertising had shown. When I walked in, it felt like I was at a rave with just the voices of people speaking even before the music started playing, there were dogs and infants in the bar, and the overall mood was a lot brighter and less moody/gothic/dark than what they portray. 1/5, would not return. Holy smokes, Merci Jones, I want to love you... and I think I eventually will. There's something here. You can feel it. The bones of a really great bar are already in place, and I genuinely appreciate the effort and vision behind it. Walking in, the decor immediately stands out...I love the subtle nods paying homage to the old Alligator Garden. That kind of storytelling matters, and it gives the space character. Pricing is fair, the happy hour is solid, and yes... I even walked out with a t-shirt, so clearly something is working. That said, the layout and vibe didn't quite land for me at least not yet. The booths feel a bit like a temporary solution, almost like placeholders until something more lounge-forward comes in. Sitting there, especially facing Broadway, it felt a little too open and less intimate than I expected. I found myself finishing one drink and thinking, "Alright, onto the next spot." Now, that could just be me. I'm coming from the northwest side, not right across the street or living in the nearby flats, so maybe I'm not the core crowd. But still, I think there's an opportunity here to lean harder into a more defined, cozy identity especially like that popular corner of the bar on the right side. More of that energy, please. Service-wise, there are some growing pains but also some bright spots. During the Fat Tuesday grand opening, I ordered a Black Manhattan and was told it couldn't be made. Came back a week later, and Rachel stepped in and made it happen she's been the standout and honestly a big reason I'm willing to keep coming back. On another visit, I ordered a Boulevardier. It was good, but I was a little surprised there wasn't a deeper conversation about spirit preference. The bar gives off a vibe of elevated cocktail knowledge, so I think guests naturally expect that extra level of engagement. I've heard the staff was brought in with a more novice-friendly approach, which is totally fair--but there's definitely room to grow into that higher-end cocktail identity the space hints at. And that's really what this comes down to; potential. Merci Jones feels like a bar that's still figuring itself out, and I mean that in a good way. Like a cocktail that hasn't quite hit its perfect balance yet but you can taste where it's headed. I'll be back. I want this place to grow on me. And I have a feeling, given a little time and refinement, it absolutely will. read more

Cheers to you Merci Jones. the ambiance is so chill, you can walk in her casual or dressed up, very diverse music playing, once i hear Frank Ocean i'm sold. bartenders were so friendly, their skills show in their cocktails. Playing old skate videos on the TVs was so nostalgic for me, i really enjoyed everything about this place. Yes, of course the cocktails are amazing! selections of wines from little death available and they had bárbaros french coffee! What a great night. read more

Right off the bat, I gotta let y'all know that they have the SLOWEST bartenders in the city. First time I waited in line for 15 min and I was behind 2 ppl! Way too long! Also, the seating is kinda crappy. It's mostly booths and they allow one person to hog a whole booth. I've come here twice to give it a chance, but I don't think I'll be back. It's good for if you're doing a pub crawl, or looking to have one drink and move on to a better spot. Which is what I did. read more

Went here with my girlfriends for a nightcap. Immediately the vibes were off, love island playing at a million volume (I am a super fan) but we just wanted to chat and that wasn't an option. I ordered a sparkling rose and they didn't have it... that's fine but nothing else was offered in its place. The wine list said it was from little death, my go to wine bar so I was shocked they were out of so much wine. Then, i decided on a bottle (the ONLY rose on the menu) and ordered that. When she opened it and brought it out, the price was 3 times what was listed on the menu. I said no thanks and the bartender with blue hair threw my card back at me. Unpleasant vibes and no options for drinks. Plus the gin martini was rancid. read more

Happy hour prices are great but the Happy hour selection is limited to fancy cocktails- I would prefer a good gin and tonic or a well made margarita as one of the HH choices. I can only have one of the HH cocktails because the selection is so loaded with sugar. You order food by scanning a QR code, the menu is from Hot Joy, took 30 minutes to get 2 items. My chili fries were not good, tasted frozen? Friends said their food was just "OK".. But main reason for 2 stars is because of the stupid poor service from the bartenders. There were two girls and a guy, the girls are just plain rude and unfriendly and provide no service whatsoever, no friendly greeting, no drink suggestions, get annoyed if you ask a question or make any comment about anything. Plus it seems they have a little thing going with their "friends" - saw this guy walk in and come up to the bar, clearly was a friend of the female bartender, first name basis, etc., order from her - and wasn't charged. The poor customer service leaves no reason to return-many other places near by, just as nice or nicer, with a more professional staff running the bar. read more

Lovely bartender grants a song request. Curly hair with beard guy who was washing dishes skips the song after the song was already playing. Ask her if I could get the song again she said yes and the dude stops her says they don't do song requests. The bartender tells the guy she does it all the time, she then comes to me and apologized. Don't recommend this place unfortunately. Bartender was great but whoever was washing dishes that evening definitely lost her money that night. read more
