I came here with a party of four & we had a reservation & upon arriving we were seated immediately which was good. They do have coat check if you don't want your coat in your seat with you. Now the location is small, but one might view that also as being a more intimate setting, but friends , family etc all would be fine here. There was one bartender & the service was slow, so I think having two bartenders especially on a weekend would be helpful to speed up the service. My table ordered some food which consisted of lollipop chicken, prawns, asparagus, steak, truffle fries, sliders, deviled eggs & a charcuterie board. The food was good & expect to pay moderate restaurant prices not bar prices. The food came out in a fair amount time which was probably due to most people don't order food here, or at least when I came, I didn't see anyone else with food. Now to the cigars. You can bring your own cigar, which two of us did. They do charge $15 to cut it, however that is waived if you order one of their cigars. They didn't have the Montecristo cigar, which was disappointing for my sister in law, but she tried something else suggested & liked it. Our waiter stated to us they were just filling in for someone & wasn't the person to explain the cigar menu (this was our first time here) but they will have someone come over. The person who came over was the bartender & although he was very nice & personable, while explaining to us, I don't think any drinks were being made, hence my prior comment, having two bartenders. We noticed once we started to smoke our cigars the service got better, which is interesting. We had about 2-3 people check in with us asking if we needed anything & they were more attentive. I get it's a cigar bar, but we actually spent a bulk of our money on food & the service should be consistent & the same across the board, regardless of what you're ordering. Overall the atmosphere is laid back & chill which is what I like. They do have TV's (no sound wasn't on I believe because we were right under a tv) & was playing the football game. They also have some music playing low in the background. The noise level is moderate so you might hear the person next to you conversation, but it's not bad. F.Y.I I'm updating this part a few days later because the transaction just cleared & they charged my party card more than what was listed on the receipt. Smh the same amount we tipped in cash was the same amount they overcharged. I'm not sure why that is but the bank will have to sort this out now & my rating for this location has changed from three to one stars. I told the woman that I would need a few pointers because I don't smoke cigars and she helped me and service was attentive without being overbearing. Merchants was an awesome time, and a very nice spot to relax for my buddies bachelor party downstairs in the bar/lounge area. I made a reservation on OpenTable for 8 for 9pm. We were still at dinner by 8:15 so I called to let them know we would be running a little late, they said no problem. We show up and walk down the really new and brightly lit walkway, after stepping through the ropes and stansions downstairs to the check in area, and was greeted with "we were expecting you" They had a whole area right in the front reserved for us and we sat down to relax. We had impeccable service from all angles. The manager, Kate, was very sweet and knowledgable about the products, offering to cut the cigar to your liking, offering drinks of any kind, and being attentive to anyone there. 7/26/24 9:30pm Party of 5 After reviewing and looking at photos of numerous establishments, I selected this restaurant/ lounge as the perfect location to gather my guys to formally ask them to be Groomsmen for my wedding. I've recently been visiting various cigar lounges so when I shared with other gentlemen this venue, there was much anticipation. I'm typically excited to write reviews but this one, I'm highly disappointed with. Things were off from the moment we walked in. We were a party of five, I wasn't asked if I had a reservation until after the hostess pointed in the direction where we would sit. As we approached the table, the hostess, who was behind us, realized the table was not ready. He walked in front of us, announced that he needed to clean the table before we sat down, and proceeded to clean it in front of us, as we stood there waiting and watching. Once seated, we waited about a half hour before anyone came to our table to serve us. Eventually, someone showed up and took our drink order. We ordered a bottle of wine and wine glasses were filthy, a mix of water stain and dust on the glasses. The waiter removed the dirty glasses after noticing their condition. We waited an additional half hour for him to return with clean glasses, leaving the bottle of wine open, on the table uncovered as he left with cork, with no glasses. When it came time to ordering our food, we gave our order to the waiter. 20 minutes later another guy shows up and introduces himself as our waiter. He then tells us, he's our actual waiter, but the other guy was assisting him as he was busy eating. He follows up by repeating the order we gave to the first guy who we thought was our waiter. He said he wanted to ensure everything was accurate before he put it in... 20 minutes after we gave our order the first time. I was at this point completely embarrassed by the experience and had to immediately apologize to my group. Once our food finally arrived, everything looked great except for one of the ribeye steaks which was practically 75% fat. We couldn't believe they would even serve a steak like that. At that point, we requested the manager. I don't recall her name but she was super helpful and accommodating and the first and only professional staff member we encountered that night. Before even speaking to us, she noticed the steak and immediately apologized. She quickly resolved the issue. The meal otherwise, was impeccable. This venue has immense potential. The ambiance, food and drinks are all slated to provide a classic New York cigar lounge premier experience. It is so unfortunate that the staff do not maintain and enforce the level of quality customer service, a place like this should have. I literally witnessed a couple walk in, very well dressed, take a look around, stand there for a few minutes unacknowledged by any staff, and walk out. The deviled eggs were good to me but my partner wasn't a fan. I enjoyed the steak with the mash- it was well seasoned & tasty, however the dessert could've been better. We came here last night for Restaurant Week and it was amazing! The vibes are so great and the food is even better! We started off the night with some of their drinks: Margaritas and Whiskey. We then had the ricotta cheese dip and prosciutto with some bread. I definitely recommend the prosciutto! For our main course we had the skirt steak which came with a delicious sauce and some mashed potatoes and asparagus. We also had the lobster ravioli and there was so much lobster! We ended the night with their chocolate lava cake and peach cobbler which were both so yummy and melted in your mouth. My partner and I were newbies to the cigar culture, and decided it would be best to save them for our dessert as we were pretty hungry. We ordered the ribeye steak and the lobster mac and cheese with a side of truffle fries. The food was pretty good, albeit a little pricey. They also had an extensive list of cocktails; the Harvest Moon was a winner in our book. We explained to our waiter our lack of cigar knowledge, and he recommended that we go with the Classic minis to start and see how we feel after. The minis were much smaller than the big guns we saw other people smoking, but were a nice starting point. The service couldn't have been better. We ordered a Chartreuse to sip on after we finished our cigars and the bartenders came out from behind the bar to let us sample a very rare bottle of their own private Chartreuse that they got from France. The ambience at this restaurants is very elegant and the crowd was very diversified. There were Young bachelor's hanging out, watching sports and loud with excitement. There were a couples on dates. There were also groups of friends hanging out. My friends and I were just having a last minute evening out and we enjoyed the space and the ambience. When you walk in to this establishment, the person by the door offers to check in your coat, but you can take it with you if you'd like. The bathroom is pretty clean. I...don't know where to begin. I'll start with why I'm giving this place 2 stars. The food (once it came out) was pretty good. It was 4 of us. Our waiter, although friendly didn't know anything about anyone or anything. We had questions about the food. He had to go to the kitchen to get the answers. We asked about substitutions due to allergies, he had to go back to the kitchen for the answer...and did I mention he was also waiting on other tables and for each time he left, took more than 10 minutes to come back? Yuh. Once he put in our drink order, he disappeared again but not really because the place is very small, just not attending to our table. Finally got our food order in, and it took almost 45 minutes for the food to arrive, which was interesting because most people there were not eating so the kitchen wasn't busy, and the reservations are in time blocks of 3hrs. All of the food came at once. After eating we started to check out the cigar menu. Now, we don't claim to be cigar aficionados but the owner was impressed with our knowledge of cigars, whom by the way very nice and had to be called over to assist with picking out cigars because again, the waiter had no training on cigars...in a cigar bar. A lot of the more popular cigars were sold out including the WSC Churchhill, and Montecristos. Disappointing but you can get them at a lot of places. We also came with a few of our own. Took over 30 minutes to get the bill after we requested it. Paid, tipped in cash, as I always do and left. Fast forward to a about 3 or 4 days later, to my surprise, my bill was overcharged by an even $60.00. The same amount that I left in cash for the tip. How did this happen? Why did this happen? I don't know but my advice, check your bank statement after giving your card here. Would I recommend this place? Maybe. If you want to smoke in doors, in a low light, low ventilated, safe place, whereas you don't really care about the food, or drinks; sure come one, come all but if you're looking for a little more ambiance, quick, attentive AND friendly customer service, a place where the staff is well trained on cigars, cigars are typically fully stocked, and better ventilation...check some where else. read more

My Merchant's experience (re)started when they opened up during the pandemic. I learned that they have the best cocktail experience for any place not dubbed a cocktail bar. I saw them boiling down persimmons to make a liqueur...maybe it was persimmons, I don't know it was some off brand fruit. The cigar selection is fantastic. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! Do not spend a dime here. I came with a few people and from the moment we walked in the door, a person named Jay was extremely shady. It was very clear he did not want us there and he closed 2 hours early even though we were spending money on cigars and drinks. We were extremely respectful the entire time and when he randomly turned on the lights to kick us out, we politely asked if we can just get 30 more minutes to smoke the cigars we JUST purchased. He literally got upset, yelled at me and my friends and clearly wanted to fight us. Even the bartender had to step in to tell him to stop. Cigar bars are hard to find in NYC these days. The few in Manhattan are mostly stuffy, super pricey places where you will find old Rush Limbaugh types who will look twice if your skin is a shade darker than bright pink. Merchants is a breath of fresh air (no pun intended). The staff are great (special shout out to mixologist Jared), the food is tasty, cocktails are amazing, and cigar menu is decent although I usually bring my own smokes (I'm a Cuban snob). I recently went with someone who doesn't smoke very often and he commented on how surprised he was by the lack of smoke , so kudos on the ventilation system as well. I have been to Merchants 3 times now, and I plan on many more visits to come! read more
