Fantastic experience. Every piece of both of our meals felt like it was lovingly prepared with top quality ingredients. Even the French fries which can be a very generic commodity type item were exceptional. I had red curry coconut rice with chicken and it was astoundingly flavorful and enjoyable. My Fiancé and I stopped by last night to check the place out. The food was delicious and they cater to the vegetarian crowd which is a big thing for me. I ordered the Roasted Brussel sprouts w/candied walnuts and mushrooms with a balsamic vinaigrette absolutely delicious. We really liked Mendon 64! We had a hard time finding the door since there wasn't a sign out front, but we eventually found it! The inside was super cute, for an older school restaurant, but it did smell like must in there. Next time I'd probably eat outside since they have a very cute outdoor area. The lobster egg rolls were the star! They weren't overly fried and you could clearly taste the lobster inside. They were so flavorful and clearly made in house. It came with two delicious dipping sauces but the egg rolls themselves were very moist. The homemade gnocchi was very good! The pad Thai was definitely not authentic, so I would probably order something else next time, but maybe if they labelled it asian noodle stir fry that would be more realistic, since it was still pretty good. I have always enjoyed Mendon 64, I will admit I hadn't had dinner there in several months, but I must say I was disappointed during my recent Saturday evening visit. The food was fine ONCE it arrived, there was 6 of us, the first meal arrived approximately 12 to 15 minutes before last meal arrived. The drinks are adequate, but we had to remind our server twice about 2 missing drinks. The server was pleasant, but obviously overwhelmed for some reason. The ambiance is pleasing as usual. I feel bad to be writing a poor review, maybe they were just having a bad night. Be assured I will return, hopefully they will be having a better night. Love you Hilary! read more

We have not been here in over 8 years. The food used to be much much better, but it was fine. If you dine here, the best option is actually the bar area, which is warm, inviting and cozy. The drink menu is very nice and I would say it is a wonderful place to catch a drink with a friend for conversation. Our experience in the dining room however was not good due to an obscene customer. Not only did she yell her conversation (in an otherwise quiet dining room) but used profane language ...and those in her party proceded to out yell her (creating their own little Lombard effect). They were all the way across the dining room from us and we herd every single word she spoke. And all this before she even started drinking lol. It is unfortunate that many people have no idea of how to behave in public, but when a customer is behaving this way the restaurant should try to address it. The only thing they have to risk is loosing a customer that is difficult...but by not addressing they loose everyone else in the room. read more

I had taken my BFF out for her birthday dinner to Mendon 64 on Friday night. It was packed but we were still seated on time. Our server, Katie, was a very nice young lady and made so much our dining experience fun! The Thai Pad, Steak Lettuce Wraps and Lobster Rolls were Delicious!! We ended our meal with coffee and Apple Cheesecake. Everything was hot and fresh. The decor was very cozy and warm. We wondered if the wood tables were custom made as they were unique. The featured artist, Joseph Accorso, and his artwork was very nice. They also have an outside patio with table fire pits. Nice on a cool night. read more

Excellent food at this local restaurant. Our crew of 3 tried several appetizers including oysters on the half shell, bacon wrapped scallops and the rock shrimp chowder. All excellent. Beet salad rounded out the starters. For entrees the 3 of us shared 2 of the nightly specials. Prosciutto wrapped Mahi Mahi on linguine and the Mushroom Chicken Cutlets. Plenty of food for 3. For dessert we tried the special biscuit with Mendon farm fresh berries and creme plus the Deconstructed Tiramisu. Both yummy! Excellent service. Prices are high ish so not an every weekend restaurant but worth it for a special occasion or special night. On this Saturday night visit they had live music in the bar. Love it! We had such a fantastic meal tonight!! Shylo was one of the best servers we've ever had, she was 100% on top of everything. The meal was so delicious that we planned our next trip before even finishing our meal! We started with two soups on a very chilly January Friday in Mendon. The soup special was fantastic! Cream of cauliflower and potato, silky and creamy with crispy panchetta, chives, and chili oil. My partner had the french onion soup, the onions were incredibly tender and sweet. It was the best french onion soup i've tried, and he basically inhaled it I had the shrimp and grits special. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned and cooked, the grits cake was crispy on the outside and soft and velvety on the inside. The entire dish was seasoned so well and I could've licked my plate of the reduction. He had the chicken bacon alfredo special, the pasta was perfectly tender and the chicken had a great grilled flavor. It was the perfect balance of fresh and rich! For dessert- Flourless chocolate cake with a raspberry sauce and whipped cream, decadent and a perfect portion to finish my meal. He had the cranberry creme brulee, not pictured but it had was so. good. Cranberry coulis for the base, and the brûlée'd top was absolute perfection. My husband's grandma was in town visiting and I wanted to make sure we had a nice dinner to send her off. I chose this place because I'd heard many of my friends and coworkers say they enjoyed it. I reserved a table for 5pm outside on the patio. I like to book larger parties earlier in the evening so as not to overwhelm staff. I arrived first. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a big smile by a friendly older gentleman. I assume he was the manager. We engaged in friendly conversation as I waited for the rest of my party to arrive and then he personally sat us. Throughout our meal he came and checked on us with friendly banter and recommendations. We all agreed, it truly made our time here more enjoyable. Such service with a smile and care is refreshing. The food was delicious. My father in law is picky, and every course he kept stating how glad he was we picked this place. For apps we got the tempura cauliflower, oysters, and crab cakes. You guys, the tempura cauliflower wasn't mushy!! That's HUGE. You know what I'm talking about, right? Usually under tons of breading the vegetable is basically a mushy, mess that's less that appealing. This was crisp, lightly tempura'd cauliflower. It's the little things in life... Also, the crab cakes was mostly crab instead of mostly bread like basically everywhere else up north. So obviously, they were delicious as well. Now- I'm not going to detail everyone's meals... but some highlights: the fries are thin and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside- so we really liked them. The meats and fish were all very well prepared... and the dessert is all made in house, including the ice cream. This place is a gem. We will be back again and again. read more

Potential galore. Lovely venue for sure. Do you hear a "but" coming my friends? Yes! The food is great ( I only had two things), BUT here is MY point, if you're going to be hiring a bunch of Pittsford/Mendon girls then at least have them DOING SOMETHING. Standing at the bar yapping away doesn't cut it when they can't/won't clear a table with dirty plates for over a half hour. I've worked in this business so I was appalled . Place was not at all busy if that's your response to this review. Management get out there on your floor! THATS my best recommendation. I know people have lots of better options these days, but keeping people who don't get how to take some initiative doesn't cut it. Especially when dining out these days is such a totally discretionary expenditure for people. I get it... good help is hard to come by these days, but they're on your clock and payroll so FGSs teach them how to work or cut some of them loose. This is really on you. Own it OWNERS. read more

Don't bother A decent kitchen with well made but not original dishes. Tasty but tiny and slight overpriced. Cocktails are poorly blended and 75% ice. Service is slow and the same statements made to every table lacks any individual attention or sincerity. A brief and curated menu awaits - opening up with grilled romaine, house salad, crab and corn chowder, tempura cauliflower bites, crab cakes and more! They offer Two kinds of burgers and a chicken sandwich, and then there's the entrees. Bison NY strip, filet mignon, a Faroe island salmon roulade(stuffed with crab!!), And more! I ordered the tempura cauliflower for my app - it was a huge helping, with a smokey to sweet dipping sauce. For the main course I had the Kurobuta pork chop in a honey-smoked paprika glaze, buttered green beans, shingled potatoes with pepperonata. We dined there last night and were deeply disappointed. One of the worst meals either of us can remember having. We chose to share three appetizers instead of an entree. The Lobster Egg Rolls were undistinguished and flavorless but the best of the lot. Cauliflower Tempura was mushy with a gooey coating and an oddly-flavored sauce. The Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps were awful; nothing close to real bulgogi. Overdone burned tough meat with three leaves of lettuce. To top things off it was expensive. The appetizers, one glass of wine, and a tonic water were $63 before tip. The ambiance was on a par with the food. We were seated at a table next to a door to a patio where a loud band played 10-12 feet away. Servers kept leaving the door open. We couldn't carry on a conversation and, eventually, got them to move us. The servers themselves seemed to do their best but were hampered by what seemed to be a chaotic environment. read more

We had a a very enjoyable dinner for two at Mendon 64 on a recent Friday evening. The hostess seated us at our reserved table swiftly ( booked on Open Table.com) and our server came right over for drinks order and to relay that evenings special additions to the menu. Local Heron Hill vineyards was also featured that evening in addition to the regular wine and cocktail list. There was a nice variety of appetizers, a special soup and salads as starters to choose from and entrees ranging from house made pasta, seafood, chicken and pork. The beef special was an Angus beef burger. We split a Caprese Salad ($10) to start. It was fresh mozzarella with large tomato slices topped with a very tasty Pesto sauce. it was just right for two people to share with a basket of crusty bread and butter served with it. We had a bit of a wait for our entrees to appear, but the Fruit de Mer (baby scallops, calamari +shrimp) over linguine white wine sauce and the house made gnocchi with chicken, mushroom and peas in a rustic red sauce were both worth the wait. Served piping hot with nice size portions on both entrees made us smile. We really enjoyed the food and the restaurant itself is comfy and inviting with a somewhat rustic look (hand hewn wooden slab tables) in some rooms, and sleeker furnishings in others. There is a very inviting separate bar room if you get there early or if you just go for cocktails. There is also a very nice nice outdoor lounge area at the front of the building with comfy seating and outdoor fireplaces. The service and the quality of food here was very good I would give it 4.5 stars and it is a good value. The menu varies according to what is locally available, and we will definitely be back to sample some more of it. Overall, this is a very nice place for dinner in the countryside. It is not far from Pittsford, or anywhere in Ontario County, and well worth the drive. read more

To be honest, this review is more along the lines of a 3.75 but I'll round up. In my head, I wanted this restaurant to deserve a solid 5 stars. The best way I can explain my rating is this restaurant has all the right bricks to make a beautiful building. But unfortunately a few bricks aren't as stable and solid as the rest. I want to first say, this restaurant is beautiful. I absolutely love the cozy homey vibe it has. It's decorated by artwork that were also on sale. With that being said, I wasn't a fan of the layering cobwebs in the corner of where the booth and wall met. Collecting little bits and pieces that overall didn't make an already beautiful restaurant any more appealing. We started with the crab cakes. This unfortunately was a bit of a let down. First the crab cakes themselves were below luke-warm in the middle. They were nowhere near the temperature they should have been. This is easily explained by the shape of them. These are more thicker vs. wider, the temperature in the middle will be colder after searing the top and bottom due to the shape. I also have to point out I am not a fan of the garnish whatsoever. Particularly in the carrots cut Julienne and tasted as if they were marinated in vinegar for way too long. I'm not shy of pickled vegetables in anyway, but with that being said these were insanely overly acidic and was not an enjoyable part of the overall dish. We also ordered raw oysters which there were two available that night. I have no complaints, raw oysters are difficult to not do right. For mains, I ordered the Aukra Salmon which I found absolutely delicious. The salmon was moist and had great flavour. I also wanted to order a side of risotto which I personally felt the rice was undercooked. It had good flavour but the texture of the rice grains was chalky and more noticeable as you eat. As for the girlfriend, she ordered the chicken breast. She said it tasted great, and I also agreed. Again, moist and well-seasoned. Unfortunately we again faced the same problem we did with the appetizer. This entrée came with a cider cranberry sauce which was insanely acidic. This did not have any cider flavour and this was not at all enjoyable. We ended with dessert which we chose the pumpkin cheese cake and the 64 S'more which were both very enjoyable. I do have to point out, near the end of our entrees the restaurant got pretty loud. I don't mind loud restaurants, but this was above my threshold. Of course this is nowhere close to the fault of the restaurant, but I had a difficult time speaking to the girlfriend at a reasonable volume. Overall, I loved the way the restaurant looks in terms of ambience. I find the presentation of the food on the plate absolutely stunning. But unfortunately there are little things here and there that I just couldn't give a 5-star review as much as I wanted to. We did indeed meet the owner and her daughter, and both were very kind and hospitable. Also we rather enjoyed the couple playing live music in the room to the left after entering the restaurant. read more

Sadly, Mendon 64 has lost its way. We first reviewed Mendon 64 in October after a summer of some pretty amazing globally-inspired cuisine there. They changed the menu often and everything tasted housemade/fresh. We loved it. During our most recent visit, we learned that chef has since left. It's a shame. Now, Mendon 64 is generic Italian fare. It appears to have lost its focus on fresh. They appear to be trying to fill a quality gap with quantity of food. It may have been an 'off' night service-wise, but the basics of customer service were missing. If this is now their chosen path, sadly, we won't be back. Next time we're in the mood for Italian dining, we'll choose one of the other finer, fresher establishments we've discovered in Rochester with wonderful ambiances, like: Rocco, Pane Vino, Fiorella, or Bacco's. read more

So glad that Mendon 64 is close to our house! Went there recently for my birthday dinner, and as always, we were greeted with a warm welcome. My husband and I started out on the patio for some pre-dinner cocktails - he had a Manhattan, and I tried the Cranberry Vodka Gimlet-which was delicious and refreshing! After we moved into the dining room, we placed our orders, starting with their calamari as an appetizer. They make a great calamari and you get a nice sized portion. For dinner, my husband ordered the House Sirloin- which he enjoyed thoroughly! I had the seafood Ciopinno-also delicious! I've always enjoyed our meals here! When we are feeling more casual, we have dinner in their pub area- typically their burger, which is served with the most delicious Rosemary fries! Yum! read more

WARNING: Do not eat here if you have food allergies!! Had to walk out without eating. I have celiac and the server and host kept repeatedly asking me what I could eat. I told them several times I can't eat gluten and to please ask the chef and not guess about the ingredients because I will get sick. Finally the server returned for a 3rd time and asked if I could eat cornstarch because the bottle of sauce they put on the fish contains cornstarch. We said we're leaving because I don't feel safe eating there. The staff were not educated on food allergies at all and were passive aggressive. I've been anxious to try M64, wanted give the team time to work out any opening "kinks". Sadly, my fears were confirmed and it is clear that this restaurant group isn't ready for this price point. 1. Sat at the bar, which had a nice feel. Bartender, while pleasant, awfully lacked training ( menu, specials, wine, computer ). Had to ask for the home-made bread other yelpers mentioned & got all wheat, when replaced was 3 pieces of what seemed store bought white. 2. The menu is as uninspired as the name of place. Ended up choosing clams casino, beet salad & tomato bisque to open: Clams: 4 med size, stuffing as expected but nearly chipped a tooth because not prepped properly. Soup: Truly excellent. Beet Salad: One of best I've seen (large, well/roasted/nice scale). Unfortunately served on just dry arugula. Must toss w/ a little olive oil & s & p. The entree goes to heart of this uninspired menu...chose the short rib dinner $26. It was "ok" & exceedingly boring. Three chunks meat & a blue potato/horseradish potato w/ carrots separating. 3. I'd been putting off using my gift card because I thought "it's fancy, I'm not up for fancy tonight". Well, it is an upscale restaurant, but don't let that deter you. It's warm and welcoming, nothing stuffy about it. But mainly the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. We tried many things, 4 courses, because we were hungry and - the gift card! Really nice place for Sunday bunch. Their riff on eggs Benedict with using prosciutto instead of ham was really brilliant idea. The hollandaise sauce is one of the best in town. First time here. Had their version of French Onion Soup for starters. And my wife had the Shrimp and Lobster Bisque. Both fantastic Had the steak special and I ordered it medium. Got it medium. The sauce was delicious - a red wine reduction. Potatoes were tasty and green beans done perfectly with a little kick to them which I liked. My wife had the salmon with lump crab, corn and chive sauce, and said it was the best meal she had in years. We shared an apple crisp for dessert - very good, not excellent but very good. We also shared a bottle of wine - a bottle we could buy for $11 in the store and we paid $29 - really not bad at all Service was excellent - decor was comfortable and modern but rustic at the same time. Two people, a bottle of wine, two soups - entrees and a shared dessert for $118. Not an every week meal to be sure but a nice "date" night out which we get every once in a while . We had an event recently with 100 people which included appetizers and an open bar. The food, service, atmosphere, seating, employees - are nothing short of outstanding! This establishment has it all. We have also had many dinners there and the food is consistently fantastic. The manager, Bridget and chef, Matthew have created an amazing experience in dining.
