Admittedly I haven't been to a Menard's in years. It looks like the setup has really changed so it is more similar to a Walmart/ superstore feel rather than just a store for tools and home supplies. Went in for some paint and the rep quickly helped us out and provided guidance. We even ended up buying some pet items, might as well since it was convenient. This Menards is relatively close to me and it's handy.  However I don't really come here very often and it seems it's mainly when I need light bulbs or furnace air filters and such.  It's a large, bright, and clean location, and is seldom crowded as I almost never come on the weekends.  The interior was renovated maybe 5 years ago and it is bright and attractive throughout.  Their prices are competitive for most hardware and utility items.  They also have a packaged goods grocery section, and one item I have found that is a great value here is coffee filters, and they are much cheaper here than anywhere else for whatever reason.  Some other items I used to buy here regularly years ago were bird feed and garden flowers, but we have since gone to other suppliers for such. I once also got a quote from them for a big kitchen cabinet replacement project.  The staffer was helpful, but in the end, they weren't competitive with just going directly to a cabinet supplier for any particular cabinet quality.  Their approach was one of being a middleman, and they had no real control of the project timing as it was up to the cabinet supplier anyway.  But Menards was helpful for the project research anyway, and they could possibly be right for you depending on your project execution style. Menards also has frequent 11% off promos.  Sometimes it involves whatever you can fill in a paper shopping bag, but more often it is in the form of an old-fashioned mail-in rebate which is annoying and antiquated these days.  Overall though, it's a big plus to have this Menards around us. read more

Despite arriving at 7:30 pm, 30 min. prior to store closing, I was told I couldn't rent a hand tool (a post pounder) because it was "too late" and they were closing. This policy is not posted anywhere (because I suspect it doesn't exist). The customer service representative I spoke to was incredibly unhelpful and didn't even try to help - she radioed someone she called a manager who confirmed it was "too late" for tool rental. Then I drove 5 minutes down the street to the Home Depot in Randhurst Village where I was told "tool rental is open as long as the store is." They were able to solve my tool rental issue with no problems. Therefore, I highly recommend choosing a different hardware store and skipping this Menards. read more

Fortunately, I've never encountered any issues with returns or customer service that other Yelpers have experienced. For me, Menards offers a unique one-stop-shop where I can buy everything from craft soda to Christmas decorations to computer equipment to sinks to candy to toilet paper. I enjoy the practical approach with just the right amount of product displays and packed shelves which allow for a staggering number of products to be carried in store at reasonably low prices. In some ways, this is what I imagine an Amazon retail store would look like (though Menards does not have a produce section). Though the store is classified as home improvement, I often look for other items at Menard's since they don't carry all the brands I'm looking for. But it's nice to have the option of finding practically anything you're looking for in the same store - if you're not too picky about the brand you're looking for. On the other hand, Menards does carry some unique products that are hard to find elsewhere like the seasonal flavors of Sprecher craft soda (and some harder to find variations such as Ginger Beer and Maple Root Beer). In the current times, the large store allows for easy social distancing while perusing products (Woodman's is another very large store which accomplishes this well). The employees within the store have always been helpful, often walking me straight to the section where I can locate the products I'm looking for. Checkout has been quick and efficient, though I'm not a big fan of the rebate system versus simply incorporating this into prices. Overall, worth a visit to conveniently buy an assortment of goods at low prices. There's also a fairly large section dedicated to holiday decorations during the fall/winter that's worth a visit during that time of year. read more

I love to shop at Menards, especially because they have a food and dairy section and anything from toothpaste and shampoo to cleaning products beside some clothing and animal supplies. They also have the regular lumber, paint, flooring appliances and building supplies. read more

HUGE location! Errr...I guess all Menards are huge. I had like ten workers come up and ask me if I needed help and point me in the right direction while in the store, so I'm gonna say the workers are all quite helpful and friendly. Pro Tip - The garden section is outside in the parking lot! I walked around inside like an idiot for awhile before one worker told me it was outside. They have a nice garden section, tons of plants and flowers to choose from - all at a great price! I got a huge hanging flower basket for $8.88! Yay! read more

Useless customer service. I would only recommend walking into this store if you know what you need, and checking in advance if they have stock. Don't expect to get any help from otherwise physically and mentally absent and smug clerks who will absolutely know less about the product and their store's contents than you do. I can't tell you how many times I've asked someone about a product to hear "sorry, we don't really carry anything like that" ... only to find it minutes later on a shelf. The other major problem with this store is stocking. Bins are always incorrectly filled or products are on the wrong hanger. Just pure laziness and inattention. But the employee smugness is what I don't understand. Puppets who think they know more than a customer and consistently prove they don't. Take pride in your job for once. read more

I enjoy shopping at Menards. Associates are helpful and knowledgeable. The store typically has what I'm looking for. Best wood out of the big box stores ..price is competitive...selection is wide ...but most high end like doors etc is special order only like all box stores. 15% off if it fits in a bag is a nice promo to look for....... Their worker will glad to assist you within your search for any materials you need. Unlike other hardware stores, there are a couple of items of the same brand but have high-priced, unlike Menards, which have the same quality of standards if compared. They take care of the delivery of any heavy materials purchase in their store. Their store is clean inside and out and strictly observes health safety protocols like wearing a face mask. There is no doubt that Menards has developed a well-known reputation throughout its years of service. As a loyal customer, this store is on my recommendation list for buying any hardware materials available only at Menards. read more

we paid from some evergreens to be picked up the next day, we get there and the pines are not there, the worker told us " oh it happens all the time" . If you pay for something you expect the items to be there. Don't waste your time paying ahead of time because they don't respect your order. We took our time selecting the pines, so someone can just go in and take them like nothing . Cashier by the garden section was very rude. She showed respect to this other couple in front of us and then when we got to the register her mood completely changed. The so called "courtesy-pals" aren't so courteous and gives attitude when we ask for help. Second time this happened and it was the same guy. Go work in a different department if you don't like being a "courtesy-pal". Management needs to have a team meeting on providing good customer service and not look like they hate their jobs. Would give 0 stars if I could. Bought new lawn mower a few days ago. Doesn't work. Tried to return-- hardware manager told me if we drained gas and oil he would take it back. Drove all the way back to the store. Then informed when we got there it has to go to a mechanic for a "diagnostic test" before they would take it back because it had gas in it. The place we now have to take it to has limited hours, so I have no idea when I'll be able to cut my lawn. Not sure how a customer is going to tell their new gas mower is a piece of crap until they put gas in it and try to start it. So much time wasted, and just horrible customer service. The manager was extremely rude stating that was the policy when he initially didn't know the policy himself. Told me over the phone they would take the mower back, and stated it a second time when we initially came into the store. Didn't know the policy himself until a customer service person apparently filled him in. Once this finally gets resolved, I'll never set foot in Menards again. read more

If any of my grandmothers were still alive, this is how I imagine their garages might look. And every year when spring cleaning came round', I wouldn't look forward to the pleasure of trying to go through everything and clearing it out. Even with directions and aisle markers, I found it hard to navigate. It's like a Kmart from the 80s. The owners should walk through a Home Depot or Lowe's sometime and see how their competitors are doing it. I have love for family or Mom and Pop owned shops, but not this one. If you've read my Morton Grove, Menard's review, you already know I resent the business in all. But as luck would have it, I had a rehab project and all we needed were kitchen cabinet doors and were told, they could be purchased here. I adamantly declined when the contractor begged me to purchase from here. But, I did not have the time to get them refinished and the job needed completion quickly. Well, we stopped through to take a look but after speaking with their cabinet guy were told, the replacement doors (in stock) were flimsy and crap-like and we'd be better off buying them new. There's a difference between installing cabinets in a home and or, commercial dwellings. In the latter case, it's okay if the cabinets are the "in-stock" variety, because they are known to be lesser quality but convenient for the basic usage. The cost is lower, just as the cost of "in-stock" cabinet doors. Well, based on dude's advice, back to Home Depot we went. The kitchen looks pretty, damn, stellar. read more

Prices are relatively hooker than a home depot, but some items are sluttier for a reason, so shop smarter, use your smarterer phone and instincts before purchasing 10lbs of smoked sausage and duct tape. read more

Their pickup truck rentals for "as low as $18.95" is a LIE. Plus $5 for a "weekend surcharge," plus $0.30 a mile, for 75 minutes. With the mileage charge? It will NEVER be $189.95 plus tax. FYI, Lowe's is $19.95 for 90 minutes with unlimited miles and no surcharge. read more

This Menards is very good, BUT my complaint with it is that you need to be careful if you are shopping off of their flyers. Why? OUT OF STOCK! A lot! I was rehabbing my downstairs apartment and went there for a host of appliances, faucets, disposer, bath fixtures, overhead fan/light fixture. I did get many items there, but wound up going to the Menards on Oakton in Morton Grove near Skokie because they are much larger, and carried more stock. One really positive thing about Menards (in general) is that I was able to purchase an appliance from the one store while I was at the other! Their inventory for all stores is online, so they were able to check at other stores for me. Also, I was able to purchase an appliance from the inventory not yet arrived. They secured my item at the sale price even before it came in. It was an out-of-stock item. read more

Why would they employ someone without any very basic tools knowledge at a home improvement store? Laughable. We're moving into a (LOT smaller) new place, and we've been frequenting Menard's these past few weeks, swiping (tens to hundreds of) paint samples, and checking out new storage options (shelving and closet solutions, primarily). We found the same shelves from IKEA here, and at a fraction of the price. (Seriously, a third of the price. 1/3 a fraction. :) ) The prices were all relatively less than that of Home Depot, and their fantastic location really helps us out. (They're less than a mile away.) They also have an extremely helpful staff (whenever you can find someone, that is). It's large and well-lit, a good time all around. And they carry the most random things. (A large card section, dish soap, cat toys, books, magazines, Root Beer Barrels, and they even had Honey Roasted Peanuts for $1!) Good times were had by all. read more

This is the first time I have ever had issues with Menard's. I placed an order online (in May) and only received half my order. Since you cannot call customer service I sent an e-mail (actually 2) with a detailed explanation (including pictures) and am still waiting almost 2 months for a reply......I realize that with the current situation things are bit crazy right now and I didn't expect to get an answer immediately but I think that 2 months is a bit excessive to wait for a some king of response. read more

Completely effed! Had keys made today. Their copies required that now my door had no locks. Beauase they jammed in the locks. I have take the lock and handle to the store to fix. And you can't reach the company. So I now sleep( or not) with a wide open door that cant' be locked because they don't train their people to make key copies. I say..don't go there!.. Menard's was a one-stop shop for us today. We set out to purchase a mattress (we did), but also took advantage of pricing on a few other items--$2.88 for a medium size bag of peanut M&M's? Yes, please! Customer service wasn't outstanding while shopping throughout the store, but our cashier, Nicole, was extremely friendly. Will go back for potted plants/flowers in a couple of weeks. I guess if you're a man you get help. I'm business owner and have clients I purchase for and I'm done with Menard's. From the classless checkout, "Do you want me to pay or just get out of the way of the next customer?" Loved how checker just stared at me paying and trying to pack up.Started checking out next guy and had his stuff move into mine. Really hate with those prices, self packing. Went here to get a container to store outdoor blinds. I called first, and they said they had a container big enough. When I got there, there was no container in sight that would fit these blinds. On top of that, this was way before Halloween, and I figured since I was there I was going to pick up an additional strand of Halloween lights. Ha no, all they had was Christmas, fully stocked! Moral of this story, bad customer service and can't ever find what you are looking for. read more

Would rather hang myself than shop here. Always an aggravating experience. If you do find someone to help you there is a good chance that they won't put much energy into it or if they do put in some effort there is a very good chance it will be misguided as most of the staff is truly clueless. Good example is when I went to pick up a patio screen door. I went to the right department and then hunted someone down and asked for my door. With a stunned look the assistant told me I needed to go to receiving. I then had to take the step of asking her where that was...good thing I asked because it is in the farthest corner of the store and is not marked. When I got to that area I again had to hunt someone down. I eventually found someone and the guy got my screen and gave me some paper work. I then lugged the screen up the front of the store and waited in line to pay for my item. When I got up to the front the checker scanned my item - gave me a blank stare and told me she was getting a code 7 (or something like that). You guessed it, I needed to ask what that means... She informs me that it means I have already picked up the item. I explain that I did not pick it up and the evidence is that 7x3 foot box that I am holding that has my FREAKING name on it. This didn't seem to sink in as the checker tried over and over and kept telling me I had already picked up the item. In the end, she finally brought over the head cashier who then helped her with the error code. After that code was cleared, they told me I was all set. All together I spent something like 45 minutes picking up a screen door. So, if you have an afternoon to kill I would say visit the store and try to buy something. If you get nothing else out of it you will have a good review to post on yelp. read more
