We had a giftcard and I really wanted to go with my husband. I fell in love with a sofa set I saw. I had to go get someone to help us out. When they got there they didn't give us any information on it. No one told us about the offers they had either. We got home and realized they only had 2 of the pieces in stock and it was the display. And a special way to get a cart very annoying it's really not worth the hassle and frustration to go here. then I had to load my bricks in the freezing cold when I got to the check out because they don't price their bricks each brick has to be measured individually again a hassle don't go here if you value your time because they don't. Terrible customer service! If you have to make any kind of special order, FORGET IT!! We had to special order a front door...they made it WRONG. We special ordered a French door for the back of our house...WRONG. Special order Novik stone paneling (they don't carry it in store)...WRONG AGAIN! Told the associate we needed starter strip for said panels...not ordered. Called the store to try to correct this omission, but they don't take orders over the phone. I have really needed to update this review for a while as I continue to get sensational service at this location since the day it opened. While I no longer live nearby, it is well worth the 30 min drive for the price and service offered. I have never encountered a rude staff member... EVERYONE is eager to help. Not only are they helpful, but very knowledgeable and willing to offer ideas and best products for your budget when taking on a project. The store in always clean and organized inside and out. Make sure to shop the sales, which are often heightened by extra rebates. If you are picking up a large order such as mulch or stone, go to the contractor desk in the back, place your order, pay up front, then drive around back and they will load the car for you at no extra charge. One thing to be aware of, I have frequently noticed pricing on shelf/above product often differs from what rings up, so I have learned to take picture of prices, as they will honor them at the register. read more

I love Menards. I love the people, the service, the store layout, the specials and unique shopping experience. I find it fascinating that you can buy a house at this store. I purchased a GE dishwasher and used by store rebate to reduce the price. The product was delivered to store 10 days ahead of schedule. The store manager helped my with a plastic piece that broke so I was able to install the dishwasher myself the same day I picked it up. The grand opening just concluded and my review of the week is exciting. The store had guest personalities and sports athletes give autographs. There was a daily drawing but I did not win. The store had specials and for which I loaded up my cart with goodies. I like Menards because the store layout is fun to walk around. They have unique items, groceries, detergents, clothing, outdoor camping, decorations, furniture, etc that you just don't see at Lowes, etc. I like Menards because they have extensive showrooms and products on display. I like Menards because they give back some of your purchase in a store rebate that you can use at a later time to reduce future spending. Visit a few times and tell me how you like it! read more

I've been admiring the Menards ad for a while now. I had a co-worker give me a power point step by step explanation of how 11% back works. Oh and for those that don't know- They don't actually send you a check for 11% of your purchase to cash. It's 11% of your purchase to spend.....at Menards. Which is ok.......it brings them repeat business and if you were working on a room remodel, this deal would really come in handy. I don't know that it's worth it for the whopping $13 bucks I spent today but hey, every little bit counts. So what is Menards? Is it a hardware store? Uh, sorta. Maybe it's a Big Lots on steroids..........which I think may be a more accurate answer. I do like the intrigue of the 11% back but what wasn't so intriguing were the prices. Average at best. And a bit on the high side on many items. I dunnu, I'll continue to check out their ads. It's not too far from home. If there's something I can't resist, I'll be back. read more

In summary: the ONLY place where you may be able to find certain items. They have, for example, a vast selection of shelving supports and brackets and shelf system options (what I recently bought there.) But almost non existent apathetic customer service. Plan on your trip here being tohhhtalll - I mean absolutely 100% - self service. Example: I picked up a couple of 8' x 23" prefinished shelves. The department employee apparently assigned there is nerding out with his paperwork, close by me as I'm deciding on what I'm going to buy. I'm then struggling to pick up one of these heavy-assed 3/4" particle board shelves (basically it's 1/2 of a 4x8 sheet of particle board) and load it in my lumber cart. The guy walking by says "need some help with that" and I grunted "yes - I have another one that I gotta get." The guy does help me with the one and then strolls off. Absolutely no help with loading bulky items either. It's OK, though. I'll just leave the !@^(* lumber cart in the middle of the parking lot. Big, uncaring and anonymous, that's Menard's. read more

Before Menard's opened, I drove just shy of 15 minutes twice a week to go to Lowe's or Home Depot. I was genuinely excited to get the same or similar stuff without having to drive across town. I thought the location of it would be too valuable to someone like me who is in a home improvement store quite a bit. It's not the same. The biggest two knocks I have: Knock #1: The level of knowledge and experience pales in comparison to the two competitors across town. I realize as the store is open longer, the level of expertise and knowledge will only increase. The plumbing section is ran by people who know very, very little. I'm slightly above a weekend warrior, but my questions are left with wrong guesses/solutions or shoulder shrugs. I couldn't find "plumber's tape" in the plumbing section, after 10 minutes I searched for an associate and asked about it. They said it was in paint. The guy in paint said, "That's in plumbing." When I told him they sent me to him, he rolled his eyes like this sort of thing happens frequently and radio'd down to plumbing. I also once spent 45 minutes walking around the store being passed off to 5 different associates looking for curtain cord holders. At one point they handed me a similar-looking stainless steel flag cleat and said, "That's all we've got." Pressing on, I finally got what I was looking for. But as I said, 45 minutes later and after being passed on. Knock #2: all of their hardware is in plastic bags. It's bad for the environment, has to raise the price, and it's super annoying when trying to compare a screw-for-screw assessment (or washer, or bolt, etc.) I'm sure they have their reason for it, but now they know my reason for going across the street to Sears or to Lowe's/Home Depot for hardware. It'll be awhile until I'm back and can trust the knowledge of the people working at Menard's. I've been in there 20+ times, so I feel like I've given them a fair shot. I just drove across town and spent more than $100 at Lowe's for the second time this week, but the guy at Lowe's knew step-by-step how to fix a hole in a screen window, what tools and supplies I needed, and I wasn't sent to paint in the process. (Screen looks great BTW!) The reason for 2-stars instead of 1 is the location, plain and simple. read more

I stopped in Menards for the first time the other day on the way home from a friends house. It is not exactly close to my house, but I am out that way enough to stop by if I need to. I am surprised at the low rating as my experience was pretty good. Rarely do any hardware stores have a knowledgeable staff, so its possible my expectations are pretty low, but I was just walking around looking to see what they had over their competitors and was asked a few times if I needed help. First, they seem to have a lot more inventory than Home Depot or Lowes. The wood section is another world. You can find a good variety of wood, lots of molding profiles and the quality seems pretty high. They actually have Ash, Maple and Mahogany. I was a bit annoyed that all the wood was plastic wrapped which is terrible environmentally and kind of a waste. That has to also increase costs I would think. Over all I was impressed with the selection and the prices. I ended up buying a few tools that I price checked on Amazon and they were in line. I will be back for sure. read more

I simply asked an employee for assistance getting to the items I preordered online, and he actually began throwing items like a 2 year old having temper tantrum. We're new to Menards and are sorely disappointed. We were in flooring looking for help. Two men who work there were talking at a small desk. We asked where something was and one guy just waved a finger and said "over there". We went "over there" and still couldn't find what we needed. We asked him again and he still pointed towards an isle and said "over there". The guy acted like we were bothering him. We were upset. We left that area to look for carpet tacs in hardware. No one was in Hardware to help. My husband flagged down a guy working in another area. My husband told him what we needed. He asked if we had gone to flooring to find tacs, that they could help. My husband told him that they weren't interested in helping us. Then we were looking for a new grill. We decided on one. No one was around. There were no boxes to try to put in the cart, no signs as to what to do. We hung around hoping to find someone. We figured we'd just tell them at check out what we wanted (we had other things in our cart). The cashier just told us, "you'll have to get someone to get that for you." Then she said "hold on" and flipped on her light. She called over the head cashier and she told us "you'll need to go over there and find someone to pull it". My husband asked her 'how are we supposed to know that?' She just looked away. Is all of this normal for Menards? Neither me nor my husband were ever rude to these people. We simply needed help. I've read the negative reviews. I ordered 17 boxes of flooring to complete lower level from Loveland,Ohio because they discontinued them here, as I am from Dayton,Ohio. Drove down, in and out. They even helped me load it! I've done this more than once or twice. I fully inspected as we loaded. The boxes we're pristine! Impressive! You can't trust the "good enough" nature in people these days. All big box stores have "those" people. And I have auto-returned damaged goods to all of them. 1. Inspect everything! 2. Avoid drop-off deliveries that you can't inspect (on the spot) like flooring and wood. 3. Or keep a return items/goods runner person on staff to take it all back while your trying to get the job done! But most are great! Love Menards. My favorite store. Love the CANDY section ! Their wood selection is better than Home Depot and Lowes. It's much easier to get in and out of Menards on Montgomery Rd vs. Lowes or Home Depot (by far the worst traffic option). Menards paint dept is top notch and fast compared to Lowes and Home Depot. Menards has the better prices. Now sometimes it's hard to find some help at Menards, but if you know what you want and where it is, they are the better choice over Lowes or Home Depot. I've made keys in that little kiosk thing, simple door keys and mailbox keys, no problems. How I see it: Lowes costs the most, but probably has the "best" quality stuff. Menards has the best overall prices and decent quality. Home Depot seems to have the worst wood selection and the slowest paint department, and by far the worst traffic options around Montgomery Rd and Fields Ertel. read more

My husband came in for a cabinet today. He does not wear a mask due to asbestosis (and the feeling that the mask pushers are overstepping rights and spreading fear). He and my stepson were followed around the store and accosted at checkout. They told him that they could not serve him without a mask, and made him buy one in order to check out. They called him nasty. At least one of them was getting within 6 feet to berate him. He is a veteran and has fought for your freedom, and your young employee felt it was okay to follow and harass him for not wearing a mask, and the older employees felt they should add their two cents. I am quite frankly disgusted and appalled. We will avoid this store in future. read more

This place is a joke, ordered composite wood from them a month ago.. FIRST time they deliver the wood and half of them are broken in half. SECOND time they try to deliver the wood they snap it in half AGAIN! But this time time they didn't even make it out of menards lot, they didn't even bother to call and tell us, we were waiting for it to be delivered when we had guys coming to the house that day to finish, instead we got a email about wood being ordered again and had to call and figure it out ourselves what was going on. Now it's four weeks since we ordered our original wood, this batch Should of been here Thursday.. it's Saturday now and they tell us no one can deliver it to us till Tuesday so we now have to rent a uhaul to go pick it up ourselves cause again we have people coming to finish the deck that should have taken one weekend for theses guys now has taken 4 weekends cause menards can't deliver stuff on time or right. We also go to pick up the wood today and are told no, we can't take it cause we didn't bring them the snapped pieces back with us.. you told us not to, but okay let me drive all the way back home with this uhaul I'm paying for to pick up the broke wood to come back all the way to get the wood I paid for.. read more

Very disappointing. Been watching this massive building going up and finally decided to stop in. Tried to get a couple copies of a key made and all they had was this kiosk, Minute Key. The help in the store was totally untrained. Can you believe a home center with no real key duplication capabilities? Well, I decided to go ahead and try it. The machine cut two keys and dispensed them AFTER inserting a credit card to pay for them and the copies were not cut on the correct key blank (I grew up in a hardware store and have been cutting keys for over 50 years). The machine doesn't even have a method to provide a receipt. The store staff was clueless. There is a tiny toll free number on the kiosk. I called in a vain attempt to get a refund of my $4.47 and got elevator music for 20+ minutes. The store just says it's not their machine and I have to deal with Minute Key. What a joke! My first and last time entering a Menards store! SOMETHING AS BASIC AS GETTING A KEY COPIED AND THIS MICKEY MOUSE JOINT CANT EVEN DO THAT! Don't bother! Go to Home Depot! read more

Do not buy pavers or anything for a big project. I had a horrible experience with Menards when I installed their pavers. After finishing the project, I found out they don't match. After writing 2 letters to corporate and talking with 2 store managers I was left with total disappointment. They all don't care about customer satisfaction. Sorry for the rant but I feel like this should be known! I have heard nothing but good reviews from all my friends about menards, but I wasn't so lucky to have a great experience. My husband and I spent over $1000 to do home improvements on our new home. We bought 50 sheets of drywall and insulation. As we went to pull around for them to load the drywall onto our trailer, we waited for 20 minutes for help. We shrugged this off as we know stores in our area are low staffed. Finally after 20 minutes we found an employee (who shouldn't have been working this department). It took him and another gentleman 35 more minutes to try and figure out how to load the drywall (in this amount of time they could have hand loaded it). Finally after an hour my mom, my dad, my cousin, and I got out to load the drywall ourselves. (3 females and 1 male). Seeing they couldn't figure it out, we started loading it by hand. Instead of helping us THEY WATCHED US LOAD THE DRYWALL! All 50 sheets! The manager of this department was only making excuses and never once apologized. They didn't offer anything for our trouble and were all so rude. We had 2 grown men watching 3 ladies and an older gentleman doing their job. I understand this is a courteous deed, but I know home depo would have never given us this trouble. Needless to say we will be using home depo for the rest of our home improvement needs. Really ashamed of how the situation was handled. The rating on their Facebook wall of 1.7 is generous. Shame on you menards, this should be an embarrassment! read more

By far the worst shopping experience I have ever had. I had bought some lumber on the app and it said it was ready to be picked up. When I drove to the store the lumber was nowhere​ to be found. I talked to 18 different employees who didn't move a muscle to help me find the product I had already paid for. I took 4 trips back and forth from the store to the lumber yard as employees kept saying it was the other place. Not a single person asked another employee, called the lumber yard, or did anything. They all just said they didn't know or they don't think they had it. I even went up to a manager who told me that he didn't have a way to talk to the employees in the lumber yard and that they didn't sell any wood products in​ the store. When I told him they actually did sell wood in the store, including the pieces I was holding, he looked away and just said, "I can't help you." Then they were difficult with me on the return since I was trying to return a product I guess didn't exist even though they said they had it and sold it to me. Eventually,​ an​ employee said they probably messed up on their inventory and it happens a lot. Why is Menards selling products they don't have and telling customers to come pick them up. The fact that they rarely check receipts if you say you bought something early might have something to do with their wildly off inventory numbers (their computers said they had 25+ of the product I bought). A month after the whole ordeal I am still shocked it happened. I spent 2.5 hrs walking around​ the horribly designed store doing other people's jobs. 18 different employees and nobody​ could be bothered to stop their conversations to help me locate my purchase. I cannot encourage people to shop elsewhere enough. Yeah, you'll get your 10,000 steps in trying to find your product, but the stress will take days​ off your life. read more

I have been pleased with this Menards until last week when I was shopping for a retractable screen doors. There were several employees who were busy and one who was working at the computer. When I finally got his attention I found out quickly that he didn't know as much as I did about the products. All he knew was what he read on the computer screen. Of course this isn't a cheap project. When ordering the 30 X 36 building I expressed that I needed my designs stamped for our county permit. So, I order my 15,000.00 building from Mernards. I received my building via home delivery as requested. I started to work on this project and turned in the plans to the county which remind you needed stamped which I told them at purchase. Of course they are not stamp like requested. SO I contacted Mernards to see if I could get a stamp on the designs that I had paid for already and again REMIND you that I requested this at purchase of the 30x36 building. Now, Mernards wants me to pay an additional 2,000.00 minimum (maybe more) to get a stamp on the plans that I already paid 15,000.00 for and requested this at purchase! I am not big at writing reviews but since I have been going through this I believe that I needed to express this to anyone that thinks about purchasing any kind of big projects from Mernards! I've been very happy having the new Menards close by and helping with our home projects. Already knock out some paver and lumber projects and would rate 5 start except I made the mistake of buying a gas powered product(backpack leaf blower). If you check rip off reports, you will find the problem explained better than I can. All I can recommend is do NOT purchase gas powered products, go to Home Depot who have a much consumer friendly return policy. If you attempt to return a faulty gas powered product 10 days after purchased, you will get read a canned response, only repeated by the store manager that they can't accept products that had gas in them. They then hand you a business card to a local tool repair shop to repair item and tell you bye bye. Which by they way the tool repair company had my leaf blower for a month only to tell me they could not find the fuel line leak. Just awesome service...thanks Menards!!! read more

Horrible customer service!! Good in store service but if you are thinking about special ordering anything.... RUN! Don't do it! We spent a lot of money at this Menards only to be let down time and time again. Deliveries incomplete, two or three no show delivery appointments, appliances dented when received on more than one occasion, incorrect items delivered, and no district manager to talk to. We call back and the manager we spoke to no longer works there. This has happened on three occasions. This is all from one special order placed in October and still no resolution in April. Buyers beware!! This is my first ever review of a store and unfortunately it is not good. I have to say... the store is clean, the selection is great, the customer service is okay (unless you have an issue), but do not special order anything and expect it to go smoothly. Ordered a special order shower surround, fairly expensive. Order pick up date was 2 weeks from online order date, as indicated in the online shopping cart at checkout. I proceeded with the bathroom project with plans to finish everything else. Two week's later on the pick up date I called because I had received no notification of the item's arrival, only to find out that the item was on back order and wouldn't be in for another month or more, if that. NO ONE at the store or the vendor bothered to call me or email me and let me know that the item was now on back order - that's a common-sense courtesy between suppliers and contractors. Now the bathroom is unusable for another month+. Opting to order from another supplier, I cancelled the order 3 days ago, received the receipt via email, but no return charge has been credited to my credit card account yet. No one at Menard's can explain why other suppliers returns are credited within a day, while theirs take over a week. I'm done with them. There are other, better suppliers out there. Their customer service is atrocious - as stated in other reviews here, they are apathetic and there is little chance of anyone there actually helping you solve an issue that THEY cause. (order not showing up or showing up damaged) - By all means shop for in-stock, little stuff there and don't expect any assistance, but NEVER special-order anything substantial from there! read more

This Menards is so close to our home, we were excited seeing the store go up..... well, big disappointment. We went over when it first opened to get a key made, what a nightmare. BE ADVISED this store does not have anyone to cut keys. The store employees sent us bk to the key kiosk to get a key made. We paid for the key and could tell immediately that the key made was NOT GOING TO FIT AT ALL. We immediately went to the store employee who advised us the store has nothing to do with the key kiosk and we had to contact MINUTE KEY for our money back. I was incredulous, Menards does not stand behind the key making unit in its own store. I then called Menards and asked to speak to the store mgr, a Zach. He too advised me we had to contact Minute Key to get our money back and gave me their phone number. Well, we did call Minute Key and spoke with a Sarah who took our information and said she would promptly get a refund out to us. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I would stay far away from this store, the staff seem poorly trained, literally ZERO customer service and they DO NOT stand behind products sold in their store. We will not be back. Better off driving to Lowe's or Home Depot for a hardware store, at these stores you get real hands on service and they know their stuff. Menards calls itself a hardware store but it seems more like a K Mart. We won't be back. Really need a zero star for places like this. read more
