We were from out of town and during our college move out day at a local university, our van's rear windshield window shattered. The window company associated with our insurance does not have any availability to do a replacement until the week after, and we really needed to get back home. A local auto repair shop recommended Mels. The crew from the front desk to their kind installer was able to install a new windshield the next day, without any delays. They also helped with removing some of the shards from the broken window. Their service charges are reasonable given the emergent need for a replacement . It took him about an hour, then he was on his way, allowing space for the tech to calibrate the windshield. Rob was the one to perform the calibration. I really appreciate that he went above, & beyond to take my car to the shop to calibrate there versus on site, which had sub-par conditions (not Mel's fault at all, of course). This company has costed me almost $700 in repairs for something that could've been less money and time. While I spent 2hrs at this business I was informed that my defrosters got broke during removal of the glass and that it could possibly be soldered and I informed that if they couldn't solder the glass, then to replace the glass completely. I also requested images of the broken defroster within this process and have yet to see proof of that. I have spoken with a gentleman named Kevin multiple times also and have been unsuccessful in getting an answer about the situation, and requested the owner to give me a call to discuss further. I wouldn't recommend this company unless you want time wasted and money. read more

Took my truck there because I had an issue of water that dripped in on the drivers side window into components in the vehicle that led me to replace the components of hundreds of dollars. When I took it in, we absolutely noted that it was the left side, and it was the driver side that the water was leaking in. by the end of the day when I received the call that the car was ready, the gentleman told me that the Special company the water guys are the water doctors came in and looked at the truck and fixed the problem on the right side under the window, actually on the passenger side coming through the door, what I said what are you doing on the right side? You're supposed to be on the left, water does not go up, water comes down so if there was a leak, it would've been coming down from the windshield. Shockingly, they had nothing to say, they just kept saying we fixed the right side, and I just kept saying why there was no issue on the right side. The issue was on the left side. I picked up my truck and I'm writing this, extremely disappointed in the workmanship and more disappointed in backing up their workmanship. Do not go there. read more

The customer service is terrible. I was told in January, my first appointment, that I was never on the schedule even though I had confirmed it. For my second appointment on 2/9/22 I called to confirm that day and Customer Service said the technician dropped and broke my windshield. I then made another appointment for 2/11 and was told by customer service they would put me first for 9am. I called several times and Ben who does the scheduling said 11 at the soonest at which point I cancelled Terrible service!! read more

They knew how much I love my car and they gave it the highest level of care. They went extra credit level on the repair. They helped fix some previously damaged parts getting them back to 100. AVOID -- They cannot properly install windshields. 1st attempt - massive distortion, acted like I was a jerk for wanted to see properly out my windshield. Even had one of the older techs come out and put his glasses on like an old prospector -- like the distortion wasn't massive. It was unsafe and completely distorted -- should be embarrassed to return a car in that condition. 2nd attempt - somewhat distorted AND LEAKED WATER INTO MY CAR CAUSING DAMAGE. Very nice UNTIL something goes wrong. They clearly do not take any pride in their work. Shame on Performance Honda of Fairfield, OH for recommended them as a shop to repair Honda's. Amber took my information, called back for a VIN number and took 3 hours to figure out my estimate... she said it included 25 for covid clean up- tax and everything- today she calls with a new price $500 more.... and said she had not called State Farm and they would not pay for OEM glass blah blah blah - but I already have a check from State Farm for almost the same as her original quote/estimate! Their rude office staff called to accuse me of missing an appoint and then were rude in trying to reschedule. They are now unapologetically two hours late for the rescheduled appointment. All of this after I waited two weeks and had to call them to see if the windshield had come in. read more

I used Mel's glass to replace my cracked windshield... The arrived as scheduled at my employer for the install. Once the job was completed the tech brought me my keys and said that he had secured my vehicle. Hours later when my work day ended and I finally got into my vehicle I immediately noticed that they had damaged the headliner. The headliner is cut and frayed, it appears to have been cut with some sort of saw. I called Mel's and was told that a supervisor would call me back. No apology and no timely returned call. (As of now there has not been a returned call). It's truly upsetting, considering that my vehicle is less than four months old. It's disturbs me that I was not informed of the damage by the tech. I'm nearly certain that he could see the damage, especially before he installed the new windshield. I would not recommend this service to anyone. read more

Very unhappy with my experience. Did an online quote for a quarter panel window - $284. They called to schedule service. Price is now quoted at $436, but they can put it in same day. I take an appointment the next day. They are behind, so instead of an hour, it will be 2 hrs. I leave to get lunch. They call me an hour & 20 minutes after my appointment time & leave a message stating that they ordered the passenger window instead of the drivers side. I go back to find that they have removed my window which was chipped & had been taped securely for a month & replaced it with saran wrap. They now can't get a new window for 5 days. The person at the window was polite & apologetic for the error. Another person who walked over was not. Did not apologize & wanted to check the voicemail to see if it was my error. 3 strikes - price altered by 50% from online, running an hour behind, wrong window ordered (I selected drivers side online), plus removed window without having replacement. Will be replacing window elsewhere. read more

So completely disgusted. The day of my appointment they had staffing issues, so they were late. I waited the couple hours to drive so window could set. When I started my car the wipers made an adjustment, bit the wipers still worked. Perhaps ignorance is what kept me from insisting they come readjust the wipers, but since get the appointment took weeks, a landscaping company was paying due to their trucks negligence, I said it's fine since they were operating. Two days ago my wipers stopped working. Mel's said to either take it to Cincinnati or a dealer here, I live in Dayton, I went to my Ford dealer. They said the switch is burnt out. Mel's said that the wipers correcting EVERY TIME I start it couldn't possibly burn the switch out. So now I get to eat the $350 bill. I wouldn't use Mel's to replace a doll house window.. read more

Two Trip Mel's does not stand behind their workmanship. Quality is not guaranteed as they claim. Installed my windshield on a 95' day. Screwed up and did not re-assemble the plastic cowling at the base of the window. They left a metal piece exposed and the cowling was not sealed against the windshield. The next day and a second trip the installers returned and reinstalled the cowling. Due to the heat, the plastic is now bowed and does not seal against the windshield. Steve @ Mel's stated that the issue was due to age of the car (9years old) and not caused by the poor workmanship. I disagreed, but they held their ground and refused to replace the plastic cowling. They begin the install only to realize they brought the wrong window. They then tell me they won't be able to get the correct window until tomorrow. They do the sloppiest job of replacing the plastic, most of it not even taped, just shut into the sliding door. THEN, when I left work, I was driving down the road and I kept hearing a funny clanking sound. I pulled over to see what it was and upon further inspection they'd left a big tool on my roof! It was like a giant heavy handle with a large blade attached. This could have been REALLY bad if it had flown off the van while I was driving. The job they did on the plastic didn't hold up, it came undone within the first 5 minutes of me being on the road. As if all of that wasn't bad enough, they call this morning to tell me my window would not be getting done today because supposedly, the one they got in has a chip in it. -_- Yeah, not buying it. When I told the scheduler that I would be cancelling my order and leaving an online review she hung up on me, then called back to say it was an 'accident.' I went ahead and cancelled that order BEFORE something else gets messed up. ON A GOOD NOTE! I called American Auto Glass and they came out with the RIGHT window just a few hours later!!! The also SAVED me $150! So glad Mel's screwed everything up, it ended up saving me a lot, getting the job done faster and I'm more confident in their workmanship! read more

The way the owner personally allows their workers to completely destroy someone's front glass frame, and then tell the customer they're wrong for it. They allow their employees to disrespect and then threaten their customers in front of their children. The fact that this place even has a license to operate is a joke. I had the windshield replaced on my 2019 Chevrolet Cruze because of distortion in the film between the pieces of glass. I had it done through McCluskey Chevrolet because the vehicle was still under warranty. The first time it was replaced i had no complaints about the job Mel's did, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. The glass still had distortion in it, but that wasn't Mel's fault. A month goes by and I have the windshield replaced again under McCluskey and I get it back and notice a scratch on my hood, ad also that the moulding on the drivers side of the windshield is coming off, I called Jeremy at McCluskey and he told me to contact Mel's directly to schedule a service, so I did. Someone came out and serviced the excuse of a completed job and fixed the windshield wipers that were hitting since the first replacement, which they were told specifically about and still didn't fix. Now the moulding is coming off yet again and the scratch is still on my hood and they are saying its McCluskey's fault and that they cannot do anything for me. How could it possibly be McCluskey's fault that the hood is scratched and the moulding is peeling off? And they also told me that to get a new piece of moulding they would have to replace the entire windshield. Coming from a guy who works at a residential and commercial glass shop, I could tell this wasn't a complete job by just glancing. As of now, Lisa, the person that I was working with, is always "in a meeting" or the dispatcher didn't show up today so she has to be the dispatcher, and will not call me or respond to any of my texts. We used to recommend people to go here when they came to our shop asking if we did auto glass, however that will not be the case going forward unless someone can appease me. read more

When I was driving home to Indiana, my sunroof was shattered by a rock from a semi. It was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and I was frantic about how I was going to get home. I went straight to Mels. Mel came out personally and looked at the damage. He told me that he could get the glass the next day. I was able to get the glass replaced and back to Indiana on Wednesday.
