Back in April, my wife "tasked" me with finding a new oriental rug for our living room. Based on their outstanding reviews, I went to MOR and met David Mouradian, the face and, dare I say, personality of this family-owned business. After showing him pictures of our living room and explaining what we seemed to like, David showed me about 10-12 rugs and was very helpful explaining the differences between the styles/patterns, manufacture and quality, as well as appropriate sizing. With his guidance, I boiled it down to four and arranged to have them delivered to the house so we could see what they looked like with our furniture & colors (btw, I highly recommend doing this). My wife and I were so blown away, by how the rugs transformed the room, that we decided to buy one for our dining room as well. Both are hand-woven, tribal patterns from Afghanistan. Since then, I've taken four older rugs in for cleaning and one fringe repair....they look great! David and his team are exceptional at what they do. I could not be happier to have found and worked with a business like this - great experience all around!! read more

If you are simply buying a rug Melrose Oriental is fine. Nice selection to choose from. I brought a rug in to be cleaned and it was returned to me damaged. I understand you sign a waiver that states they can't guarantee spots will be removed but in my case they removed the dye from the rug, briefly mentioned it to me when I picked up my rug, never showed me what happened, and still charged me for the full cleaning despite damaging my rug. It seems like whoever was doing the cleaning didn't have enough expertise to know how to treat or clean my rug and irreparably damaged it. The fact that I was still charged the full amount for the cleaning felt disingenuous. They clearly knew they had damaged the rug as they mentioned it to me upon pick up. Not showing me the area affected when I was there felt like they were trying to hide their mistake. Be very cautious when you bring rugs here to be cleaned. read more

Melrose did an expert job cleaning a number of rugs for me including a custom wool broadloom and several handmade rugs that had not been cleaned in a long time when I was in the process of selling my house and moving to a nearby apartment. Dave was incredibly helpful with his team to pick up the rugs from my house and then deliver them to my apartment and lay them out in each room. I appreciated his willingness to accomodate my schedule and his overall professionalism and knowledge. read more

Melrose Oriental Rug Co did a great job cleaning all my rugs. They were prompt and professional. Their work restored the color and beauty of the rugs. They look amazing! read more

Businesses like this don't really exist anymore... family-run, beautiful products, and impeccable service. We've purchased two rugs from Melrose Oriental Rug. Our last shopping trip had us looking for a smaller-scale rug. We made two visits, on each Dave encouraged us to take several rugs home to live with them in our space, and return them when we were ready. We ended up with a gorgeous, unique rug that's sure to be a family heirloom. We've purchased less expensive rugs in the past, but after our experiences here we see and appreciate that value is a function of what you get in return for your investment. We won't get rugs anywhere else. read more

I had all my rugs (6) cleaned by Melrose Rug. I can't say enough about them. True professionals. Know what they are doing. Repaired a couple of my rugs too. A third small rug I said probably didn't matter enoiugh. These people love rugs so much he fixed it anyway, no charge. Made suggestions for pads to better protect the rugs. Well worth it. read more

They cleaned my precious wool rug and it looks like new! Really appreciate the pickup and delivery service.

Can I give Dave and team 10 stars?? I had my grandmother's 9x11 handmade Chinese rug. It had never been cleaned in its life, had a huge hole chewed through it by a dog 30 years ago, and had sad fringe that needed removing. I took it to Melrose. I cannot overstate how incredible the workmanship was on my rug. The patch? Virtually invisible. The fringe? Like it was never there. Clean? Oh so clean. Dave and team took their time to do it right. They were quick but did not rush. Plus they accommodated delivery since they were in my neighborhood! And the price was so so reasonable for what I got. This business is just incredible. I haven't been so happy about a service...ever. I will only be coming to Melrose for all my rug needs. Full stop. See before and after photos! read more

I recently brought a much treasured, very worn oriental rug to Melrose Oriental Rug for cleaning and major repairs. The Mouradian family were friendly and knowledgeable. The rug's worn sections were irretrievable but the master weaver did an excellent job at maintaining the unharmed sections into a coherent whole. The results are stunning. My siblings were amazed. See photos below. Thank you David and crew. read more

Our first experience with them was a pleasure. we had a couple of rugs cleaned, then were ready on time and they received commendable attention. they took the time to point out that they repaired and shaved a few pulls (no charge) and gave us good advice on care. I'm in Medford, so it's not next door, but they are Great folks, I won't hesitate to go back to them. read more

Had a very nice 40-year-old Pakistani rug cleaned and repaired and got a pad for it. Great to be able to deal directly with the owner. It was picked up on time and returned on time. Laid down under the furniture . No sweat on my part and first class service by folks very knowledgeable and experienced in this sort of thing. read more

This place is great! Great service, knowledgeable and goes above and beyond!! When I picked up my rug I was pleasantly surprised that they had done some repair work that I didn't ask for (at no charge). They looked at another rug (I was not having cleaned) and gave me advice on where to get more info on it. All in all a premier example of great customer service!!! read more

Great service, done on schedule, at a very reasonable price. I brought two rugs in here to be cleaned. They returned my braided rug in excellent shape, post-cleaning - you can't even tell it shared a house with a cat. The other one I brought in has water damage and the dye was running, plus the border was coming off. They repaired it basically for free, and it looks better than I thought possible. Both rugs were done for $88 total, a steal compared to if I had to replace them. Plus I appreciated getting a quote ahead of time and getting a call when they were ready. read more

The nicest people! Were incredibly helpful over the phone answering all my questions & providing a reasonable quote for cleaning. I was so impressed with their knowledge of my rug considering what a mess it was! They did an AMAZING job cleaning it - i can't believe the before and after photos. It was so bad before the cleaning that I forgot there are blue tones in it. Thank you so much for your wonderful work! read more

These folks are not just experts, they're also super nice. I brought in multiple items to clean and repair with only 2 weeks before moving out of state, and ended up having a lot of questions and being an admittedly annoying customer. David was so patient, returned my phone calls, and helped me coordinate a complicated pick-up. I am very grateful and would recommend them to anyone. Also, I didn't purchase any rugs from them but the stock they have out is gorgeous! read more

David and his team continue to provide rug service above and beyond expectations. I just had two of my oriental rugs cleaned and they came back literally looking new. Improvements were made that I didn't pay for simply because David felt it was the best way to provide the best service he could. I just had my beautiful 40 year old hand woven wool oriental carpet cleaned and repaired, including replacing the fringe and dealing with some worn spots. The results were fantastic! Exceptional quality, and service! I highly recommend having your rugs cleaned and repaired here. Expect honest, no BS assessment of rug quality and trust their guidance. Outstanding service. I brought in an area rug, which had many stains, for cleaning. After Melrose Oriental Rug cleaned it, it looked new.

I brought in an antique Navaho rug that had been in my attic for years and was severely damaged by moths. They rescued it! All the moth damage was repaired, the rug was cleaned and I couldn't be happier. It was not a quick turnaround but after years of neglect... What was kinda cool was that they even showed photos of the repair in progress. This is the kind of service you only get from a family owned store. read more

Never ever disappointed here! I came in to buy a 4x6 rug and David once again is a genius. He helped me chose an excellent rug that fits the room and is stunning. Now that we are adults, my husband and I decided we should have our rugs cleaned. Because that is just the sort of thing that adults do, right? Right. My mother-in-law is a Melrose local and mentioned that Melrose Oriental Rug provided a cleaning service, so I called to get details. The woman on the phone was delighted I called and curious how I found out about them and offered me a 20% discount as a new customer. I was given a blind quote with the understanding pricing may change depending on the make and actual size of the rug. I was surprised how reasonable the pricing was. I made an appointment to drop off the rugs and was given an estimate on when they would be ready. She let me know that they would be happy to help with unloading and reloading the rugs when we arrived. The rugs were ready in about a week, (perfect as we were going out of town). Upon pick up we learned one of our rugs was way nicer than we had known and it was handmade! (Woohoo Craigslist find!) they offered some tips on better caring for each of our rugs and never mentioned how much cat hair they likely cleared away. So nice of them. Our rugs looked more vibrant and definitely more plush. We are very satisfied with this service and wil absolutely return when it's time. My husband also mentioned that their store is filled with sooooo many beautiful rugs, most of which are a true investment, but even if you aren't ready to invest are still fun to ogle over! read more

Yelpers have this rating right! After inheriting an oriental rug that hadn't been cleaned in years, I found Melrose Rug on Yelp as I was researching another provider who had been referred to us. I called Melrose Rug to get info and was immediately put at ease both in terms of the screening questions that I was asked about the rug and the cost estimate. We scheduled a pickup and Dave the owner personally came. My husband, the rug owner, was very concerned about who was coming and the process and care for which the rug would be cleaned. Dave immediately impressed us with his knowledge and history of the rug. One week later Dave and a different crew delivered the rug and set it up for us. One of the crew was personally responsible for the actual cleaning and it was clear that he and the rest of the team take great pride in their work. In total, I interacted with 6 people on the phone and in person for this family-owned business. The ease of booking and pickup and delivery was nothing short of fantastic. We appreciated Dave's tips for care and cleaning and look forward to using them again. I highly recommend! read more

My 84 yr old friend who is going thru a terrible time with her 86 yr old husband wanted to get rid of 20 beautiful oriental carpets. My daughter and I told her we'd buy 7 of them. Melrose Oriental came and said all or nothing so she gave the carpets to them. The humongous price of $1,000 was given. I'm not sure if that could be considered elder abuse but it certainly leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. This is a woman who's husband is in hospice and selling her apartment to move in with her daughter. A woman who's overwhelmed with everything that's going on and to take advantage of that is truly disgusting. Think about it - 20 Oriental carpets for a total of $1,000. read more

I didn't know the old red rug even had a pattern. It was in the 'office' of a horsebarn for unknown years and had gotten pretty filthy. Others advised tossing it out, but I wanted to give it a chance. The shampoo crew at Melrose Oriental washed and washed and washed it to reveal a rich, jewel-tone pattern. And, now all the mud and stiffness is gone, the rug is very lustrous and soft. Really glad I didn't chuck it- it looks great, and no horse smells. They kindly held it until the new place was ready, and delivered on time and with a smile. Terrific company. read more

I was looking for an oriental rug for my living room area to coordinate with the tribal rug under the dining room table. I read some great reviews online about Melrose Oriental Rug so I gave them a call. I spoke with David, the owner, and he was willing to drive here to Salem to look at what I have and give me some ideas. My tribal oriental, though beautiful, looked too dark for under the dining room table, David said. He suggested placing it in the living room area where there is more light. I could definitely see his point. He said he'd check his warehouse for the right colors and the odd size I needed. David sent me a photo of a Persian rug with an ivory background and similar colors to my rug. He then brought the rug over so I could see it. It was perfect! He and his helper then proceeded to transform my entire living area. They carefully moved all my furniture and placed the rugs in their new places. I love the final outcome and am SO pleased with my rug and the service I received, just in time for the holidays! I highly recommend Melrose Oriental Rug. read more

We brought a rug to them to be cleaned. It was in a room that was not heavily used but hadn't been cleaned in a few years. Oh I like this place! I got a discount for bringing in my area rug (as opposed to getting it picked up) and they took a look at it with me to make sure they knew what stains I was looking to remove. They said it would take 2 weeks, which was no problem, and they texted me to let me know it was ready, easy peasy! My dhurrie rug came back bright and clean and it cost about $42. I can't say I'm a carpet cleaning pricing expert, but that seemed reasonable to me! Thanks Melrose team! read more

Dave and his team are a treasure - old school craftsmen passionate about their work. I brought in an old damaged and heavily soiled 1920's rug which I was given by an elderly neighbor. If I had any idea how bad it was I probably would have thrown it out, but Dave and his team cleaned it and went wayyyy beyond any expectations to carefully repair it. Dave is direct and honest and transparent about work to be done and expected cost. I would never go anywhere else after this experience. He also has many many rugs for sale and is helping me choose one for another room. read more

I LOVE my new rug that I purchased for my NH lake house. I explained to Dave what I wanted and the measurements. He sent me photos of rugs that might work. He listened to my needs, and found me the perfect rug! I've been a customer for over 20 years, and Dave has always provided the BEST customer service. I live in J.P. Surely there's someone closer to home who cleans rugs. But I'll always call Melrose Oriental Rug. I first used them a few years ago when we moved into our newly renovated home and took our oriental rugs out of storage. They came to my house to pick them up and returned with them a week or so later. The rugs looked great and they took great care in laying them down for me, moving furniture as needed. David (the owner) came along both times. He's clearly very knowledgable and committed to making sure his customers are satisfied. But I really got sold on Melrose Oriental Rugs a few weeks ago. We had just bough a runner for our hallway. I think we had had it a week when our dog peed on it! I thought I'd clean it myself and used a rug cleaner and pet stain remover. I only made it worse! I was horrified and not looking forward to telling my husband (who, I'll admit, is more the oriental rug lover than I am). Fortunately he was out of town, which gave me time to try my last resort - M.O.R. I drove the rug up there, explained the situation (complete with my husband's ETA). Two days later, the rug was back in my house looking good as new and my secret is safe. Shhh... Thank you Melrose Oriental Rug. read more

David and his team are wonderful! I needed a few new rugs in my home, and David came out to measure and recommend sizes and types of rugs. He then came back with a couple more crew and showed me multiple rugs, laid them all down on the floor, so I could see what they looked like. He hand picked what he thought would work in my home, and his choices were excellent! He is a fair man and very customer service oriented. I would recommend Melrose Oriental Rug to anyone! read more

David and his associates did a fantastic job with my hand tufted wool runner. It is a prized possession of mine and I have been too fearful to get it professionally cleaned since I purchased it seven years ago. It was fairly severely matted and dirty. I asked for a quote and David supplied one much lower than any competitor (about $30 for a thick 2.5x8 foot runner). The low quote actually made me nervous! Would they really do a good job on my carpet? I handled drop-off and pickup, since the carpet was too small for the business to pick up for me (I felt fine about this). The process did take two weeks, but for my favorite carpet with special needs, it was completely worth it. I've never seen this thing so clean and unbelievably soft. David and his team do a very thorough and careful job with their work. I will definitely be returning to them in the future. I only wish they did synthetics, too! Wool rugs only at this joint. read more

From the moment we brought seven rugs to David, we have received nothing but the best service including a great deal of knowledge about the rugs. And, we just picked up our rugs that were repaired and cleaned. They are gorgeous!! What a fabulous job they did. In fact, one rug had been cleaned in the past by another well-known oriental rug company and the difference between that company's job and what David did is so clear: the rug is now so much nicer looking and cleaner. Fine work!!! read more
