I, my wife and our daughter have used the Reading, MA Paper Store for years, for cards and gifts…read more Today I went in for a card, and saw a rack with "warning" papers covering some of the items. When I looked behind the papers, they were oven mitts, dish towels and socks with illustrations and text; the text on many used words including "f**k", "sh*t", "b*tch", "motherf**ker". Not all of the items with those words were behind the papers. The intent seemed to be messages of "strong woman", "girl power", etc. Great way to send a message. (After I post this I'll see if I can post some photos I took.) A clerk came up and tried to be humorous. She"Are you old enough to look at those?" Me"Yes, but a substantial number of your customers aren't." She"[We're careful with them.]" Me"No, you're not." She simply turned and walked away. I needed the card, or I'd have left then, so I bought it and left. I might give such an item to my wife or a friend as a gag gift, but such items should not be easily accessible to kids and even teens (the rack full of items extended from the floor to about 5 feet high). Further, such coarse language should not be casually presented as being normal and acceptable where kids-teens can see it. I'm an adult and I know when and where I can use such language, and when and where I should not use it. I Googled "Paper Store reviews" before writing this, and posts by employees suggested that much of Paper Store's upper- to store-level management seems to lack good judgement.

They put together some great looking platters full of an assortment of chocolates and some extra bark on the side. They even helped carry everything to my car. To say that my work was impressed with what we got is an understatement. My residents LOVED the chocolates and are still talking about how delicious everything was 3 days later! Plus, I was able to get some extra chocolates for my wife while I was waiting on the finishing touches to my work order. Phone engagement was quick but all questions were answered completely and patiently. The designer was spot-on when he told me the plants they had were good sized and healthy. I thought I wanted a 12" planter but they had 10" or 14". He suggested that the 10" planter would be fine, which I appreciated. However, it was folk a few of us so I went with the 14".. I thought delivery fee was a bit higher than I've paid in the past, BUT they delivered the planters on the same day, exceeding my expectations! My family was in mourning, and I'm 3,000 miles away, so we certainly didn't take a picture of the bouquet to confirm what I'm being told. There is nothing more unseemly than debating the "value" received for a funeral bouquet. It only takes a moment to take a snapshot of the arrangement sent, if one is not going to stand behind the quality of their creations delivered, and argue over a refund of any type. Neither of us wants to have a bad experience, so I'm chalking this up to Judge Judy's advice - I won't be using Affairs To Remember services again.

You also really need to stop demanding that employees stand 3 inches behind customers checking out and loudly checking to see if we need bags. It's really creepy. I get that people probably steal from y'all or whatever but I would genuinely suggest hiring a loss prevention officer to watch cameras or something instead of crawling up employees asses to do so. You're paying these people minimum wage and putting them is incredibly uncomfortable positions, not to mention your clients, who make you money. Please reconsider your business model for this particular location; it's veryyyy creepy right now. And again, you have no one but management to blame for this, please don't try and accuse your employees of bad service. As someone who has been in the service industry for years, I can tell when management has grossly unreasonable and stupid expectations. Get it together.
