Okay, Alano's as well as Wakefield Center as a whole will bring you back to the 1950's--and…read morequick... It is an old-fashioned looking downtown/center with a lot of the original signs and buildings from a different time...enjoy. Welcome...you are back to the era of Woolworth's and Brigham's (which I am not knocking, as I remember both from childhood). Just setting the scene.... As Rachael made mention of in her review, grandmas would love shopping here (again, not a knock, I love my gramma very much and would take her here anytime!) But, they have stuff for non-grandma-folk too. If I wasn't currently so well-stocked in my wardrobe, I probably would have come out with a few things... ...If the 1950's don't creep you out, you could score here---big time. They have some newer/trendier brands that I know are from TJ Maxx/Marshall's and everything in between all the way over to certified "Mom Jeans" that fit you snuggly and stiffly (they are thick denim) well above the waist. But they are crisp and new and I don't know where they got them! They could sell on Ebay for collectors or fashion historians... Oh...speaking of crisp...I almost forgot...they had all of the ladie's polyester casual pants (circa 1970, like my mom used to wear soooooooooooooooo long ago...) that you could shake a stick at...It made me think that someone might come in in grab them for some play/ period costumes They have men's and children's/baby clothing and it looked good from across the way but I had no desire to investigate. Highlights: Women's sweaters and winter coats were fashionable and veeeeeeeeeeeery cheap! Nice, warm vests.... Some nice purses A plethora of gramma nightgowns, if you are looking for a present for your gramma...

Last time I was here, I spent $50 and got 4 dresses and 3 shirts. I don't want to even think about how much the same stuff would have cost at Nordstrom. WHAT A DEAL!

Walking in, the place was very crowded with a wide variety of styles and a ton of heads with wigs.  Honestly, the shop did not seem like the place for me.  I figured I'd get a bra and then go shopping for clothes. I was very surprised to find everything I needed and some items I would not have considered, but she asked me to try on for her!  The shop owner, Barbara, is really good at what she does! I am not a fashion-focused person, I like sticking to timeless staples with a funky twist and comfortable shoes. But, not only did I get a good fitting and a bra I love, but a bonus stylist who worked with me, showing me a variety of options, really listened to what I did or didn't like about each and  helped me craft the perfect outfit for the wedding and a great bra!  I think everyone should go, alone bc it is tight in there, and just see what she has for you, it's fun. Thank you, Barbara! Not sure if you would have recommended the platform sneakers I wore, lol, but I got so many compliments on my get-up!

Some of the top winners for me first of all is the Apple Store. You also have Trader Joe's and Legals.. the yard house is also great. And you have kings for entertainment. I haven't even got started there so many stores. It's a little challenging in the winter with the snow, but it's still a great place to come always has a great atmosphere going on. Anyway good luck with the parking where you're purchasing food to take home and cook or hitting one of the restaurants for drinks. There's a great tequila place that I like in the marketplace. I'm sure you can fulfill any clothing, shoes, hair, dye, restaurant, entertainment, etc., etc. check it out great place.

I can't say enough how poorly this shopping area was designed. We can start with the parking. Aside from the common sense parking lots behind the buildings the whole traffic flow design is congested and treacherous! Perhaps little bridges to walk over the Storrow Drive of the North Shore would be a better thought out plan then having to walk in front of distracted drivers trying to find a place to park and/or the establishment they want to dine at! Also, the handicap parking is a joke. I tried taking my handicap mother to a restaurant, The parking space was still too far for her to walk from to the restaurant, we couldn't even pull up to a door to drop her off as there is nowhere to pull safely to the side to do this. So we had to eat someplace else. Besides that who thought an open air mall in one of the coldest places in the country was a good idea? I remember back in the 60's and 70's when they were enclosing malls, i.e. The North Shore Mall, it's a more pleasurable experience to be in a climate controlled environment when it's below freezing many months of the year. Once you get past the chaos of the driving and finding a parking space. You need to play "find the store I want to go to" unlike a mall where you walk straight down the center and the stores are all line up, there is buildings hiding behind other buildings. It's like a scavage hunt trying to find where you want to go, and it's not enjoyable when it's snowing, raining, icy or just too dang hot or cold! There is no rhyme or reason to any of this design. Also, for the most part, the stores are filled with pretentious bored housewives who many of them NOT ALL but mostly are too stuck up to help you.

A big, thoughtfully decorated window invites one in where you will find a divine collection of childrens' clothing, accessories, books, toys and other items bound to delight any youngster. The selection is good without being overwhelming and while more pricey than, say, Walmart or similar stores, I think you get excellent value for what you are getting. Some of the lines they carry come from England and are just adorable. And it isn't just for girls - I have got things for my now almost 2 year old nephew which were original and charming. In the back by the check out area, there is a display of some lovely jewelry, bags, and other pretty things for Mom or Grandma too. Or in my case, Auntie! I got two beautiful necklaces and some earrings on my first visit. The owner and her mother run it together and both are just delightful. I've had some excellent conversations there while checking out. Young mothers with babies are often to be found there and it is a warm and welcoming place. They often have sales and weather permitting a table of interesting items outside. Whether you are shopping for a new baby or a five year old, you will find something here that is unique, well made and just what you didn't know you were looking for. Check it out! You will be very glad you did.

One Yelper even commented to me that you "slit your own throat" with replies like the one you left me. Just so we are clear "slit your own throat" is figurative NOT literal, it is a figure of speech. What was meant by that comment is that you give the unsatisfied customers more credibility because of the harsh reply, it makes you look like the bad guy. If you read Help For Business Owners, Yelp gives some practical suggestions to help Business Owners to respond to negative reviews in a tactful way that helps defuse situations such as this one, instead of being threatening. I mean I wouldn't want you to get sued in return, Yelpers are well protected by the 1st Amendment and Anti- slapp legislation. I amended my review and took out the words that offended you because I am a reasonable person. I do not wish anything bad upon you. I am just expressing my opinion, feelings and telling my experience. I hope your business continues to do well and that you learn from experiences such as the one that I had and improve the customer service you give to your con-signers.
