My cousin and I had our bridesmaid dresses altered this past summer. My cousin had two dresses and I had one and we were unfortunately not happy with the results of any of the dresses. My dress was not hemmed properly but I forgot my shoes when I picked up the dress (my fault totally) and didn't realize it until I got home. My cousin had the same problem but had to go back as she was unable to walk in the dress the length was so off. Then my straps in the back were still too loose. I am an amateur sewer and could tell only one strap in the back had been altered and not enough. I had to undo her work and redo both straps myself. We also paid way more than the other bridesmaids. Tamara has altered several dresses for me - none simple projects. The first was a few years ago when I brought a tunic style dress with a square neck that I never wore however, I never wanted to part with it as the silk fabric and design were beautiful! Together, Tamara and I came up with a cocktail dress design and she made the neck into a perfect V neck as well as making alterations to shorten it to cocktail length and with a side zipper. I have worn it many times and always feel great in it and receive many compliments! Most recently Tamara altered my daughter's wedding gown and my mother-of the-bride dress. Both dresses came out beautifully and Tamara was not only patient with us as we figured out what we wanted but also creative in how she worked on the dresses to fit each of our specific needs and wants. A couple of weeks ago I was stressing about finding someone to hem my prom dress within a couple of weeks since I waited so long to get it done. After my mom searched yelp for places, she came across Tamara and she called and booked an appointment, which was a couple days later. The appointment only took about 20 minutes and she said she'd have it done the week of prom, which was two and a half weeks away from that time. Less than a week later my mom got the call that the dress was ready to be picked up, I was so excited! It was done a lot quicker than she anticipated which was a stress reliever. And it was also less money than expected as well. When I tried it on again, the dress was at perfect floor length and the stitching was great! I had prom a few nights ago, and it was awesome! Proceed with caution! I met Tamara at her house to discuss alterations for my wedding gown. She opened the door for us and let us in, but never really even greeted us. That was the first of many awkward moments throughout the appointment. I walk in to a cute dog, then quickly realized I would have to try on my wedding gown in her kitchen which was covered in dog hair. I had a mini panic attack, but decided I must be overreacting. Well the appointment only got worse. I nearly passed out because her kitchen was so hot and I was in a heavy wedding gown. She pinned my dress for nearly an hour. Tamara altered my dress and, in doing so, took it from a garment I loved to a garment that I felt perfect in. I picked up my dress this weekend! Tamara was amazing to work with. She is extremely patient and kind. She works out of her home and alterations is her side business. Although this is not her full time job, it allows busy working brides to schedule appointments after working hours and on weekends! I had 5 visits with Tamara- More than I thought we would need and I think more than she thought. Even though my dress was finicky and difficult she did not charge me extra. She was able to make my size 12 dress into approx a size 4 and I would not be able to tell it was a size 12. Her work is beautiful. We had two comforters that were getting pretty threadbare, but we had sentimental reasons for keeping them and so wanted to try to get them repaired. I wrote to a few places to ask if they could do this, and most said no. Tamara said yes, but let us know she couldn't do it til after the busy wedding season calmed down. I hired Tamara because of her good reviews on Yelp, she had a professional website and she lived close to me. I need a long chiffon dress to be hemmed for a wedding. It was two layers, an underlayment and top layer of chiffon. She measured me for 30 minutes the first time in her kitchen. When I went to pick up the dress 2 weeks later, I tried it on, neither layer was straight and the underlayment was sticking out in large clumps under the chiffon. I couldn't believe it! She has measured and pinned me so carefully for a 1/2 hour! Tamara was dead pan, and said nothing- I think she was hoping I wouldn't notice. And she wanted to charge $75 to hemm this dress when another lady who is a professional seamstress and has a shop was going to charge me $55 (shop was further away). She measured again, pinned everything and said it would be ready the next day. The next day I showed up at the appointment and she wasn't home! She finally answered her cell phone, said she was at Home Depot and that my appt was 2 hours earlier. I was like, What??? She finally came home, I took the dress and tried it on at home. I mailed her, her payment. When I look at the bottom it is such a mess. the sewing is sloppy and it's still not a good job. Although at least now it is fixed and from a far you can't tell it is still uneven and the stitching is sloppy. I can only be thankful I did not bring a wedding dress to her. This is not a woman you can trust with fancy items. I am very disappointed in her work. I am sorry to write a bad review, I know how hard it is to have a business. read more
